Why won't DirectX install on Windows 10? – Computer76.

When it comes to Windows 10, we always keep searching for drivers and software online. Now some of you may say that Windows Update is good enough to install drivers and system software yourself. Yes, you're right, but sometimes that's not enough. Today we will see some simple troubleshooting steps if you are unable to install DirectX on Windows 10.

DirectX is used by applications to create and manage their animations, multimedia effects, and images. It's an application programming interface (API) that ensures that everything runs smooth as butter in your Windows environment. It works using binary runtime libraries that come with the DirectX Software Development Kit (SDK).

If you are not familiar with computers, these terms may be difficult to understand. In short, DirectX is a set of instructions that ensures that you get a smooth and interactive user experience.

DirectX Setup: An internal system error has occurred. To determine the problem, refer to the DXError.log and DirectX.log files in the Windows folder.

In most cases, DirectX eject errors occur due to some intermediate intervention by the .NET Framework. But that's not all, errors can also occur for other reasons. These reasons change from time to time, and it is always difficult to say which reason is at the root of the error.

We are going to try the following tried and tested methods to resolve the error.

  1. Install a previous version of DirectX if required
  2. Check for graphics card driver updates.
  3. Download and install Visual C++ Redistributable
  4. Install the .NET Framework using the command line.

Before we begin, be sure to try each method if the error still exists. Keep in mind that you need to reboot your system after completing each method.

Why won't directx install?

If Windows already has a current version of the library, the online installer, having detected it, does not undertake to install the new DirectX on the system.
Other problems can be caused by compatibility problems or incorrect operation of the antivirus. Most problems can be solved with the following instructions. Directx does not install, what to do:

  1. Download DirectX from the manufacturer's website.
  2. We disable the antivirus for 10 minutes. We can do this through the tray (next to the system time) by right-clicking (RMB) on the antivirus software symbol.

  3. Right-click on the downloaded file and select the “Fix compatibility problems” option.

  4. Uninstall the previous version of DirectX.

By the way, we haven't mentioned how to enable DirectX 12 on Windows 10. Most games work successfully with both DX11 and DX12, but use the older version by default. It is more reliable and supported by most devices.

Question answer

Why directx is not installed: possible reasons

In order to find out why failures occur when trying to install this platform, in the simplest case, you can refer to the error log files (DirectX.log and DXError.log). An experienced user will immediately understand what the problem is. But such information may not tell the average user anything at all.

Therefore, if, for example, DirectX is not installed in Windows 7, and the process is interrupted by an error message, then we suggest looking at the list of possible reasons for this system behavior. The following are considered the most basic:

  • exposure to viruses;
  • installer file corruption;
  • incorrect launch of the installer;
  • lack of installation rights;
  • critical system failures associated with updates;
  • lack of drivers or malfunctions of the video card;
  • hard drive errors;
  • problems with RAM;
  • outdated BIOS firmware.

Causes of the problem

Problems related to the installation of the DirectX library are software in nature.

However, this is not one reason that explains the nature of the problem, but a whole complex of factors:

  • lack of or outdated version of supporting software;
  • erroneous blocking of the installer by the antivirus;
  • presence of malicious files;
  • damaged installer;
  • outdated video card drivers.

Whatever factor causes the problem, the problem can be resolved without the help of specialists. In this case, it is necessary to refer to the recommendations that make it clear what steps will lead to correcting the error.

1] install previous version of directx if required

There are applications that still do not support the latest versions of DirectX. Sometimes you just need to manually download previous versions such as DirectX9. Now, to check which version of DirectX is installed on your computer,

  1. Press the Win R keys. The Run window will open.
  2. Type dxdiag and press enter. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool will open.

  3. On the System tab, find your DirectX version.

How to find out the version

On Windows 10

Press "R" and "Win" at the same time. In the field, type: "dxdiag".

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool will open. On the “System” tab, the last line of data displays the version installed on the laptop or desktop computer.

On Windows 7

Required user actions:

  • Go to the main menu of the system. To do this, click the "Start" button
  • Type "dxdiag"
  • From the search results, select an item whose name matches the user's request
  • In the "System Information" section, find the version number in the corresponding line

In versions 8 and 8.1

The actions are the same as those that need to be performed in the seventh version. Differences for touch screens:

  • Swipe from the right edge to the center of the display
  • Tap on the “Search” button

2] Check for graphics card driver updates.

It is noticed many times that the DirectX version of your system is not compatible with graphics drivers. This is due to auto-updates being disabled. To perform this method, make sure your system receives updates regularly.

  1. Press Win X key. The quick access menu will open.
  2. Click on Device Manager. A new Device Manager window will open.
  3. Click on Display Adapter, the display drivers available on your system will be visible.
  4. Right-click on the Intel HD adapter and select update.

  5. Click on Search automatically to update your driver software. Just make sure your system has an active Internet connection.

  6. If the latest drivers are already installed, it will tell you so, and if not, it will download and install the latest updates.

  7. Now, if your computer also has a dedicated GPU, in the display adapter list, right-click it and select Uninstall Device. Install the drivers again from the official GPU website.
  8. If you know how to update your GPU drivers from its application, you can skip step 7 and continue updating your drivers.

Problems with update packages

Finally, the biggest problem, according to the vast majority of experts, is installer conflicts with updates. The most striking example of this is the SP1 update pack for Windows 7.

It seems that both software products (both the update and DirectX) are developed by the same manufacturer and should not conflict. But you and I know how unfinished updates can be.

In this situation, you need to go to “Windows Update” and find the update with number KV976932 in the list of installed update packages, and then remove it, having first created a backup copy of the system.

After this, the computer is rebooted, and then a manual search for updates is set in the same update center. During the search process, all the necessary updates will be found, including DirectX components. If the installation goes without problems, you can download the latest modification of the platform from the official Microsoft website and install it yourself, although the easiest way is to download a small web installer file and use it. In this case, you don’t have to look for a version of DirectX that matches the bit size of your system and download the full installation distribution.

4] install .net framework using command line

If the above method did not work for you, you can download and install it using the command line. To install the platform, we will use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) service in Windows.

  1. Open the Start menu, type cmd. Select Command Prompt and click Run as administrator. Make sure you have an active Internet connection.

  2. Type the following command and press Enter: DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:D:sourcessxs

  3. Now wait for the process to complete. Reboot your system once the process is completed.

Find out the solution! Since these methods have already proven their usefulness, your error should not appear again.

Troubleshooting

The error states that the Direct X web installer cannot download library components from Microsoft servers. Two logical reasons for its appearance immediately emerge:

  • The Internet does not work on the computer. To check this, try opening your browser and going to a website.

  • Microsoft servers are temporarily unavailable. Their availability can be found by visiting https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/.

If the failure is not due to one of these two circumstances, then we move on. You don't even have to figure out why DirectX won't install.

You just need to use the offline installer. It does not require an Internet connection, so this malfunction cannot occur.

Download the full installer file from our website and then run it. A window will appear with the title DirectX June 2010 SDK. In it, click the Yes .

Now click Browse to specify the directory to extract the files. It is preferable to create a folder in the root of the disk, the name of which will contain only Latin letters or numbers. Now click OK in both windows. Next, open the selected directory in Explorer. Find DXSETUP.exe . Right-click on the file and select the option to run with administrator privileges.

Now the installation itself will begin. Agree to the license terms and click “Next” until the files begin copying.

Typically, the procedure lasts about a minute. Wait for it to finish. All you have to do is click on the finish button.

Alternative option

It is also possible that DirectX is not installed due to system restrictions imposed on the program. Then you should give her administrator rights. This is done like this:

  1. Download the web installer.
  2. In Explorer, navigate to the directory where the file was saved.
  3. Right-click on it.
  4. Click on the second option.

  5. Complete the installation by following the text prompts. Don't forget to deactivate the option associated with the Bing bar.

Many users, when trying to install or update DirectX components, are faced with the impossibility of installing the package. Often, such a problem requires immediate elimination, since games and other programs that use DX refuse to work normally. Let's look at the causes and solutions to errors when installing DirectX.

Blocking by antivirus or other security systems

This happens quite often. Some products of this kind, instead of searching for viruses, have fun by blocking everything. The library installer may also be blocked by such a program. And then the notorious error appears, interfering with the normal installation of libraries.

This problem needs to be solved. Therefore, while installing DirectX, we will disable the antivirus and Windows Firewall service. The latter also likes to block everything. As an example, let's look at disabling protection in ESET Smart Security. This is a good and very popular antivirus. Here are the instructions:

This is how the notorious Windows Firewall is turned off. After you have dealt with it, you can start disabling the antivirus. In general, there are many such programs. But the general algorithm of actions will be similar. The differences are only in minor details. We will look at this process using the example of Smart Security from ESET:

After disabling all locks, you can try to reinstall DirectX. If the problem was in the antivirus or firewall, then the installation should go fine. And if not, then you will have to turn to the next point. This installation wizard behavior may be caused by malicious objects.

Recovering system files

The first (and mandatory) step. If there were viruses on your computer, they could significantly damage some operating system files required for normal installation of the library.

Sometimes for this reason, when installing DirectX, the CAB file is not trusted. However, this problem can be solved. Moreover, using the tools of the Windows OS itself. Here are detailed instructions on how to restore system files.

This command will start scanning Windows files. If something is missing, the system will restore it during the scanning process. After the console has finished running, you will need to close all windows and restart your computer or laptop.

It is worth noting that such a check (together with restoration) can take from 5 to 10 minutes. But there is a high probability that after a restart DirectX will install normally. If this does not happen, then you need to move on to the next chapter.

Introductory information

It is worth noting that without this component, normal operation of the operating system is impossible. It, like many applications, will always be missing something. So let's first figure out what kind of component this is.

What is DirectX?

This is a set of special libraries required by the Windows operating system to work with 2D and 3D graphics. The Direct X package is provided by Microsoft. And completely free. Anyone can install it.

But the Windows 10 operating system already contains the current version of these libraries. So for those who use this OS, this material is not particularly relevant. This is understandable. After all, the “ten” is the current project of the company from Redmond.

Who might find this article useful? Firstly, for those who use Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. There, sometimes you have to update DirectX components to the latest version. The same goes for those on Vista.

For owners of windows xp and windows 2000

There is a ready-made solution for you in the form of DirectX 9 Uninstaller, plus you will need a Windows XP image or disk. This uninstaller takes the original files from the Windows XP disk and restores DirectX 8 from it. DirectX 9 then extracts the necessary files from Driver.cab in the i386 folder of the Windows XP disk to a folder on your hard drive called C:DXTEMP.

IMPORTANT. Don't forget to restore your system before making changes!

If the option of almost manually reinstalling DirectX does not work or is not satisfactory, try the automated DirectX Eradicator tool (from an external resource). It operates on the same principle and also requires Windows XP installation files (this option is not suitable for later versions of Windows). To work, you will need administrator rights and the Cryptography Services service running.

Driver( )

Sometimes the reason for failure to install the required assembly components into the system is the use of an incorrect driver for the video card. This usually appears after launching a game that requires certain resources for the picture. These are: the latest versions of GTA, DeusEx, NFS and most modern projects.

Solving the problem is simple - go to the official website of the creator of your part and download the required installer. If you have a laptop, you can contact the manufacturer’s main online resource, where you will find the appropriate software.

Well, as you can see, there can be many problems affecting placement in the DirextX system. If none of the points helped you, you might want to think about reinstalling the operating system.

Installation prohibited( )

Windows 8 and any other versions of Microsoft operating systems provide the ability to create multiple accounts. Moreover, for each of them you can prescribe certain conditions according to which users will act.

Sometimes the main problem is the ban on installing anything at all on the computer under the account you are using. The problem is solved as follows:

  1. You must boot the operating system as an administrator.
  2. Go to Start and Control Panel.
  3. We are interested in “User Accounts”.
  4. We grant the appropriate rights to the client we need.
  5. Restart the computer, go in and install the component.

You can also create a new user with the appropriate capabilities from the start.

Why do you need directx?

First you need to figure out what it is. For example, you launch a game, and millions of bytes of information begin to be loaded into your RAM so that it is processed not only by the central processor, but also by the graphics processor.

The question is how to make the computer do all this - for this the computer needs instructions. If we abstract ourselves, then the program code that the game developers wrote is the instructions. Now imagine that when creating a new game you need to do it all over again, which means literally “ruining” years of your life, but there is no need for this, because there is special software, for example, the DirectX graphics library.

Programmers will connect it, after which it will be possible to intelligently use its resources to manage processes, display graphics and much more. However, some computers do not come with this library out of the box, so below we will tell you where to install DirectX.

How to reinstall directx correctly? important

The real question is: how to properly “uninstall” DirectX. At one time it was a discovery for me that after completely uninstalling Direct and then trying to install it, the system gave an error:

An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine the problem

:/> Headphones do not work on a computer with Windows 7

It would seem that nothing could be simpler: find the specified files in the system folder. You don’t have to look: they aren’t there. And I had to find an installation disk with a suitable version of Windows, reinstall the previous version, and install a more modern one on top of it. And now the options.

Reinstall DirectX from the registry: first point.

Owners of Vista and 7. I think this point is mandatory, no matter where you start. A little trick with the Windows registry will make the system think that the existing version is very outdated. This means that it itself will require updating to a later one. Let's go to the registry along the way

to the Version parameter with the value:

How to remove directx?

Since removing DirectX 12 on Windows 10 is sometimes a necessary procedure to restore the functionality of the library, we decided to separate the procedure into a separate item. The peculiarity of the action is that the goal cannot be achieved using standard system tools; additional applications must be used. For the program to work, you still need to disable the built-in protection.

How to remove DirectX for Windows 10:

  1. Right-click on the “This PC” icon and go to “Properties”.
  2. Go to the “System Protection” section.

  3. Click on the “Configure” button.
  4. Select the “Disable system protection” option and save the changes.

  5. Download the DirectX Happy Uninstall program.
  6. We install it, open it and go to the “Backup” tab, where we start creating a backup copy with the “Start Backup” button.
  7. Go to the “Uninstall” page and click on the same button on the tab.
  8. Reboot the system and install DirectX again.

It seems that we have given answers to all common questions regarding DirectX. If the topic is not closed for you, you can ask your questions in the comment form.

What's new in version 12?

Currently, 12 is the most current version of the library set, so it is important to know how to install the latest version of DirectX for Windows 10. It is used in the latest projects, and, as you would expect, offers developers such complex tools, effects obtained with the help of which, do not work on modern game consoles either. Based on this, there is no question about which DirectX is better for Windows 10.

However, many players who have quite expensive and, accordingly, powerful computers are faced with the fact that they have DirectX 11.2 installed, and, as noted above, there are no ways to adjust this manually. There are no Microsoft DirectX settings for Windows 10 either.

It’s worth saying right away that if you have updated the set of libraries and still have version 11.2, then the problem is with your video card, and everything depends only on its manufacturer. To find it out, you need to go to Device Manager.

And see what video card you have installed.

Only he can make sure that the latest component interacts perfectly with your hardware components and speeds up the operation of your OS.

This is the only answer to the question why DirectX 12 is not installed on Windows 10.

At the time of writing, the current version of the library is DirectX 12. To find out whether you need to update to it, or whether it is already installed on your computer, follow these steps:

    Open the Run program through the system search bar.

Open the Run program

We look at the DirectX version

Purpose of directx

DirectX is a set of libraries for programming computer graphics applications, in particular computer games. It was developed by Microsoft Corporation and consists of the following main components:

  • DirectSetup: responsible for the correct installation of the entire set;
  • DirectX Graphics: a package of interfaces for outputting 2D and 3D graphics;
  • DirectInput: feedback support interface between the OS and input tools (keyboard, mouse, controller);
  • DirectPlay: responsible for game and network communication;
  • DirectSound/Music: interface for processing and outputting sounds and music;
  • DirectShow: responsible for outputting the overall audio and video stream;
  • DirectX Media Objects: Data encoding/decoding interface.

As you can see, DirectX is responsible for almost all audio and video components in Windows, their processing, encoding/decoding and output. Without it, the user will not be able to run any game or application using 3D graphics technology on his PC.

Advantages and disadvantages of Directx 9

Minimum program response time; + supports all previous versions of video cards; + stability of work; + performance acceleration; + support for all driver versions; + full compatibility with Windows 10; Based on numerous user reviews of this software, DirectX 9 has no obvious disadvantages due to constant updating and improvement of the program.

Key Features

  • support for network gaming protocol;
  • 3D graphics processing;
  • providing sound effects processing;
  • faster response to commands;
  • processing commands from the mouse and keyboard;
  • mixing and 3D sound;
  • display of filtered objects;
  • improved reproduction of weather effects;
  • automatic download of all types of missing package components.

*Attention! When downloading the standard installer, you will need a pre-installed archiver, you can

With the development of technologies for creating animation for computer games and graphic editors, the need arose for improved drawing of objects and visual effects. DirectX software is used to solve this problem. This is a kind of bridge between the video adapter, sound card and the graphics software for games and editors, which allows you to improve the quality of images displayed on the monitor screen. Every version of Windows includes a set of DirectX files that optimize the graphics experience. Updates to DirectX versions may come with game applications. To use DirectX, you need to have some understanding of installing, updating, uninstalling, and reinstalling the program on Windows 10.

Do I need to install directx on windows 10

DirectX 12 for Windows 10 is a set of files with a *.dll extension, consisting of software libraries necessary for improved display of visual effects and audio. Windows 10 comes with DirectX 12 built-in by default.

You can determine the DirectX version on your computer using the dxdiag command:

  1. Right-click on the “Start” button logo and select the “Run” line or use the Win R key combination.
  2. Write the dxdiag command in the text field and click on the “Run” button.
  3. The last line of the window that appears will indicate the installed version of DirectX. In Windows 10, version 12 of DirectX is built-in by default

Even though Windows 10 comes with DirectX 12 pre-installed, the dxdiag dialog box may show an earlier version in some cases.

Problems can arise, as a rule, in two cases:

  • the game that the user launches was written for an old version of DirectX, and the new version does not contain the required libraries;
  • In the Diagnostic Tools the version of DirectX 11.2 is indicated. This means that: the video adapter installed on the computer is outdated and does not support the DirectX 12 version;
  • The video adapter drivers are outdated and require updating.

You can see which version the video adapter supports using the “Device Manager” console in the computer properties and the adapter manufacturer’s website. To do this, in the “Device Manager” console, find the line “adapters”, expand it and write down the name of your adapter.

If it's enabled on Windows, why do games install it?

If DirectX is part of Windows, why do games install their own version? The short answer is that DirectX versions are a mess.

There is no single DirectX Direct3D library that all games depend on, or even multiple libraries. Game developers should target the exact version of the Direct3D helper library. A later version of the library cannot be used. For example, if a game developer targets their game at d3ddx10_40.dll, the game cannot use d3ddx10_41.dll. Version 40 is required and only this file will do.

These files are located in the C:WindowsSystem32 folder on a 64-bit system, and the 32-bit libraries are located in C:Windows SysWOW64.

Even if you run the latest DirectX installer, there is no guarantee that it will install all the older, smaller versions of the DirectX libraries on your system. Microsoft also decided not to bundle these Direct3D library files with Windows itself. Even Direct3D libraries created before the release of Windows 10, for example, are not all included in Windows 10. They must be installed by the application that needs them. As Microsoft notes in documentation aimed at game developers, "Windows Update and Service Packs do not provide any additional DirectX components."

Reinstalling directx on windows 10

The easiest way to install DirectX 11 on Windows 10 is to run the automatic installation wizard. Without user intervention, it does a good job of detecting outdated versions of the library and, if necessary, adding updated DirectX.

Instructions:

  1. We go to the official Microsoft page distributing the library.
  2. Download the file.
  3. Double click on the loaded element.
  4. In the “Security Warning” window, click on the “Run” button.

  5. Select “I accept the terms” and click on the “Next” button.

  6. Uncheck “Install Bing Panel” and click “Next”.
  7. We wait until the installation wizard finishes.

Most likely, the procedure was completed successfully and the current DirectX appeared in the system. However, this is not always the case. Sometimes it appears that everything ended well, but in fact the old damaged files are still in the system and they interfere with normal operation. In this case, you must first completely remove the library and install it again.

:/> How to change the password on Windows 10, ways to change account access on Windows 10

Interesting question! Do I need to install DirectX with the game? Probably everyone has noticed that each game comes with its own set of libraries. In fact, most games will work if the system already has the latest version of the software environment, but not all.

There are developers who modify or use a specific helper library that is not included in the standard package. Our verdict: it is advisable to install DirectX with the game, but in most cases it is not necessary. If we agree to the installation, but the program finds the required software environment in the system, the installation will be interrupted.

Damaged OS files

Usually, to start the DirectX installer normally, it is enough to run it as an administrator. Then the installation will go fine. But if viruses on your computer have damaged important operating system files, the same error may appear when installing libraries. And further consequences could be even worse.

In this case, system components need to be restored. This does not require bootable media (disk or flash drive). It is enough to use the built-in Windows tools. Or rather, the command line. There is no need to be afraid of her. If you don’t engage in amateur activities and do everything in strict accordance with the instructions, then nothing bad will happen.

The procedure is as follows:

This procedure will start looking for damage to Windows system files. If something is missing, the tool will restore the missing components. Once everything is complete, you will need to close all windows and restart your computer or laptop. If this is not done, the changes will simply not be taken into account by the operating system.

Peculiarities

DirectX 9.0c for Windows 10 is no different from the similar version of Direct 9 for earlier versions of the OS. So you have to install the same version of drivers as before. However, through the update center, your computer may try to request this driver itself, and you will not even have to download DirectX 9, it will be installed in the background. If this does not happen, then you can go through the whole process yourself. DirectX 9.0c is required to work:

  • All applications that support DirectX technology;

To believe that DX9 is needed only by gamers is extremely erroneous, since many multimedia applications do not work without this driver.
Even video editors may not work correctly if Direct X is not installed on your computer, laptop or tablet. For example, you can try the editor. DirectX 9.0 drivers work on x32/x64 versions of the system. DirectX 9 for Windows 10 is free and not resource intensive. So, if you have not yet experienced problems due to its absence on your laptop or tablet, we recommend installing it in advance. We can say the same about

Problem installing directx on a clean Windows 7 system.

This advice applies to all types of operating systems, the Windows family.

Just recently I encountered a problem when installing DirectX on a clean system. During the installation process, the following error message is displayed:

—————————

Installing DirectX

An internal system error has occurred.

To determine the cause of the error, review the DXError.log and DirectX.log files in the Windows folder.

DirectX itself, not the left one - time-tested, from the official Microsoft website. The Windows 7 operating system is licensed, just installed with all updates installed. There are no viruses. Only licensed programs are installed, not just pirated ones. The latest version of the antivirus is installed, with the latest updates - Kaspersky Internet Security 2022.

I want to say right away that such problems are often caused by viruses, so if you encounter such a problem on a computer where Windows has been installed for a long time and has been actively used, I recommend that you take the following steps:

Check your system for viruses using the following utilities:

Be sure to install/update DirectX,

Microsoft Visual C and RuntimePack (links below).

Update your DirectX by following the link to the official website

Microsoft

:

https://www.microsoft.com/ru-ru/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35

In my case, it didn't help. The reason turned out to be in the antivirus itself. You've probably often come across calls: “Before installing this program, disable your antivirus.” Often, such recommendations are given when installing pirated/unlicensed programs. I strongly do not recommend doing this. But, in the case of installing DirectX, this had to be done. Moreover, simply disabling antivirus protection in my Kaspersky Internet Security 2022 antivirus did not help. DirectX still did not install and gave an error. Only completely unloading the antivirus from the system helped. As soon as the antivirus was unloaded from the system, DirectX installed without problems and pleased me with a message about its successful installation.

Conclusion.

If you encounter a problem when installing DirectX, be sure to follow the steps listed above in order. And only if you have a problem installing DirectX on a clean Windows OS, as was the case in my case with the antivirus enabled, try disabling the antivirus and firewall while installing/updating DirectX. If necessary, completely unload the antivirus from the system, since simply disabling the antivirus does not always solve this problem.

If all else fails.

If you have completed all the above steps and you still cannot install/update your DirectX, reinstall your system in the “Update” mode. This will allow you to save all your programs, files and system settings and update all system files.

Also, similar problems when installing DirectX are present on a very large scale in pirated builds of Windows OS. Do not use pirated assemblies and you will get rid of many problems.

Other installation options

Strange as it may sound, sometimes DirectX does not install only because the installed antivirus prevents the process from starting. It would seem that this should not happen, however, the situation is quite common.

As an option, simply disable the installed security tool for the duration of the installation. In some cases, the problem is resolved in this way.

If errors still appear after this, it may be worth downloading not the latest package (DirectX 12), but an installer for a platform of a lower rank (for example, version 9, which is supported by Windows 7 and higher). Alternatively, you can use the DirectX End-User Runtimes installer.

Install directx and check its version

If you started looking for information on how to install DirectX, then you definitely have some kind of problem with launching one or another application. Most likely, this application is a video game, after launching which you received a message about the absence of a certain DLL file, apparently related to DirectX, which you probably already learned about from the Internet.

You are moving in the right direction! Errors like this can actually be resolved by installing DirectX. But how to install it? This is done in two ways: through a web installer, downloaded from the official Microsoft website, and through the installer that comes with the game/program itself.

First, open the root folder with the application you need and look for the Redistributable, Redist or something like that. Not always, but quite often the executable file DXSETUP.exe will be there, i.e. installer, and a bunch of archives with DLL files. Run the installer and follow further on-screen instructions to install the found version of DirectX.

DirectDraw error in Windows 10 and its fix

Having the latest version of DirectX is a prerequisite for running a number of games that use 3D graphics, but this does not guarantee the absence of errors. So, when launching games and 3D editors, you may encounter a DirectDraw error with one or another code. The reason for its appearance may well be damaged DirectX, but this problem may have other reasons. What else could cause this problem?

DirectDraw and Direct3D disabled

DirectDraw provides applications with direct access to video memory and is used to speed up 2D graphics rendering. Direct3D is similar to DirectDraw, but is responsible for working with 3D graphics. Both of these APIs must be in an active state.

To check their status, run the command dxdiag , switch to the “Screen” and look at the “DirectX Features” .

If the APIs have the status "Off" , open Windows Component Management, expand the "Legacy Components" DirectPlay box and reboot.

Enable compatibility settings

Since the DirectDraw error in Windows 10 is to some extent related to the resolution used by applications, you can alternatively try this trick.

Open the properties of the executable file of the application that gives an error when launched, switch to the “Compatibility” “Use screen resolution 640 x 480” checkbox .

The solution is not the best, since working in such a resolution will be clearly uncomfortable.

Outdated video drivers

The DirectDraw error can also be caused by incorrect operation of the video driver. Check that your video card driver is up to date and update it if necessary. It is advisable to use “native” drivers, and not those supplied by Microsoft as part of the operating system.

Reinstalling DirectX

If the error cannot be resolved, try reinstalling DirectX.

There is no option to remove this component in Windows, so you will have to act directly and even rudely by removing the DirectX libraries manually.

To do this, boot from any LiveCD with a file manager on board (this is necessary to bypass access rights), go to the C:\Windows folder and search for files that have “D3dx” .

Remove all these libraries, creating backup copies just in case.

We boot in normal mode, go to the website dlltop.ru/soft , go to the DirectX .

And download the latest version of Direct for your operating system.

Run the installer and follow the wizard's instructions.

As a result, all necessary component libraries will be downloaded and installed on your PC.
