Good afternoon, dear readers or guests of the Pyatilistnik.org blog. Today I want to consider the following question: how to remove net framework correctly and without the garbage that remains after this procedure. When you may need this experience, everything is very simple: you may have an old program or game that uses components of net framework 3.5 or 4.0 in its work, but when installing newer versions, it is either completely inoperable or has constant glitches. Let me show you the correct sequence of actions. I will show both on server operating systems, such as Windows Server 2012 R2, and on desktop ones, Windows 7, 8.1, 10.
How to remove net framework, correctly and completely
Good afternoon, dear readers or guests of the Pyatilistnik.org blog. Today I want to consider the following question: how to remove net framework correctly and without the garbage that remains after this procedure. When you may need this experience, everything is very simple: you may have an old program or game that uses components of net framework 3.5 or 4.0 in its work, but when installing newer versions, it is either completely inoperable or has constant glitches. Let me show you the correct sequence of actions. I will show both on server operating systems, such as Windows Server 2012 R2, and on desktop ones, Windows 7, 8.1, 10.
How to turn it on?
If you need to include libraries that have been removed by you or someone else, do it correctly. We will show you exactly how below. It is important to use software from the official Microsoft website. This is done like this:
- To activate the .NET Framework that was originally added to Windows 10, we just need to visit the Control Panel and enable the appropriate checkbox. If the application is not in the system, download it from the official website for the 3rd and 4th versions.
- When this is done, launch the installer and follow its prompts. If it's a web installer, it will pre-download all the necessary files. If offline, the installation will begin immediately.
- As a result, the component will be added to the system, and you need to restart your PC. After this, applications that required an additional component will start working.
How to completely remove net framework from your computer
And so, before uninstallation, you definitely found out that the cause of breakdowns and bugs is precisely this component, for example, I had the WAS error 5011 there was a framework that required demolition. Below I will show options for any operating system.
Disabling net framework 3.5
Net framework 3.5 can be removed only in Windows XP , but since in my opinion it is already morally and for obvious reasons outdated, I will not consider it. In older versions of Windows 7 – 10 operating systems, this framework can only be disabled. This is done very simply. Open the control panel, in Windows 7 you can find it in Start, in Eight and 10 by right-clicking on the “Start” button, but the most universal method is to click:
Now, for convenience, let’s make a large display of icons and select “Programs and Features”
In the left corner, you will see the option “Turn Windows features on or off”
Uncheck the box next to “.NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)”. You will begin the process of “removing” it; it will remain in the system as a disabled component. You may be asked to reboot.
Uninstalling Framework package versions 4.0-4.5
Unlike 4.7, this package is easily found among the list of all installed programs, here is an example of Windows 7, where in the “Remove or change programs” list you can easily find it and uninstall it using the appropriate buttons.
An additional window with a maintenance wizard will open, select “Remove .NET Framework 4.5.1 from this computer”
Using the NET Framework Cleanup Tool
If you need to quickly and efficiently remove the net framework, you can use the free NET Framework Cleanup Tool from Microsoft.
Run, I will remove the net framework in Windows 8.1. In the first step, you need to agree to launch the utility.
We agree to the license agreement by clicking “Yes”.
All you will end up with is a modest window with a choice of the version of the .NET Framework to be removed, after which we click “Cleanup Now”
The good thing is that the utility also cleans folders and registry keys.
Quiet operation
The .NET Framework Cleanup Tool supports silent mode, in which no messages are displayed to the user. To do this, you need to run the program with the following parameters.
For example, to remove .NET Framework 1.1 you need to run the following code.
However, even silent mode will not remove versions of .Net that are a component of the operating system.
Automatic operating mode
The .NET Framework Cleanup Tool can operate in automatic mode, in which the user is presented with a window with a removal progress bar. No user interaction is required. To work in automatic mode, the program must be executed with the following parameters.
That is, to remove the same .NET Framework 1.1, the line will look like this.
Return codes
- 0 - Removal completed successfully
- 3010 - Removal was successful and a reboot is required to complete the process
- 1 - The program requires administrator rights
- 2 - The cleanup.ini file was not found in the folder along with cleanup.exe
- 3 - This version cannot be removed because it is a system component
- 4 - The specified version name is not in the cleanup.ini file
- 100 - Uninstallation was started but failed
- 1602 - The deletion was cancelled.
Uninstalling the NET Framework on Windows Server
In Windows Server, the procedure is similar, for versions 3.5 and 4.5 it is disabling the component through Server Manager. Here's an example of 2012 R2. In 2008 R2, version 4.5, you cannot disable it this way.
I hope that these methods will be useful to you and you can safely remove or disable the desired version of the framework.
Many users who open the list of installed programs on their computer find the Microsoft net framework there. It comes in several versions (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and so on) and is almost always installed up to version 4.5.
In this article we will tell you what the Microsoft net framework is and whether it is worth removing it, because almost always this issue arises due to a lack of free space on the system disk.
How to solve the problem of starting programs?
Very often, users who download AutoCAD encounter installation errors. For example, a specific version of FW is required, but when you try to install the required Framework, the message “The installation will not complete successfully...” appears on the monitor. Windows Installer lists the following as possible reasons for failure:
- this component is already part of the operating system, it does not need to be reinstalled;
- the same or more recent version of the software is already installed on the PC (for example, version 4.6 is listed on the system, and the user is trying to install 4.5.).
In Windows 7, you can even uninstall Microsoft Net Framework 4 according to all the rules, but this will not help get rid of the problem.
There are two methods to solve this situation:
- Parsing “install.exe”, changing the required version of the .Net component in xml, putting it back together and installing is an action that is inaccessible to an inexperienced PC user.
- Change the version of the built-in Framework in the Windows 10 registry from 4.6. on 4.5., but when you try to perform the specified manipulation, the message “Cannot change “Version” will appear on the display. Error while writing new parameter value."
To fix the error of writing a new value, you will need to change the permissions to access the specified parameter through the registry:
- Hold down the Win + R combination and enter the code “regedit” without quotes.
- Hold down the combination Ctrl + F, and in the search window that opens, enter the “Net Framework Setup” key, then tap on “Find Next”.
- The user will be transferred to the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” folder in the “SOFTWARE” folder.
- You will need to go from the root directory “Net Framework Setup” to the “NDP” subfolder, to the “v4” folder and to the final “Client” folder, find the file called “Version” and try to change its parameters.
- If an error like “Cannot change the parameter” appears, then you should try the following action: right-click on the “Client” folder, and in the context menu select the option from the drop-down list of commands – “Permissions...”.
- Attempt to change the access permission for the specified setting. To do this, in the “Permissions for the Client group” window, in the “Permissions for the “Administrators” group” section, check the “Full access” option (in the “Allow” column), click on the interactive “Apply” button, and click on “OK”.
- If the screen says “Unable to save permission changes.... Access is denied”, then you need to click on “Cancel” and change the owner of the “Client” parameter.
- To do this, you need to return to the “Permissions for the “Client” group” window, tap on the interactive “Advanced” button located opposite “To set special permissions or parameters, click the button...”.
- The “Advanced Security Settings...” dialog box will appear: in the “Owner” section, opposite the owner’s name there is a “Change” hyperlink. Click on the given link.
- In the “User”, “Group” or “Built-in security subject” window, tap on the “Advanced...” button located under the field for entering the names of the selected objects.
- In the “User” or “Group” window that opens, in the “General Questions” section, click on the “Search” button, in the “Search Results” block, select the “Administrators” option, after which you will need to click “OK”.
- In the “Additional security settings for “Client”” window, check two boxes: opposite the topmost option “Replace the owner of subcontainers and objects” and the bottom one “Replace all permission entries of a child object with those inherited from this object”, tap on “Apply” and “OK” "
- A warning will appear: "Explicitly set permissions for parameters... will be replaced with inherited ones... Do you want to continue?" Click on "Yes".
- After this, you need to return to the “Permissions for the group...” window - click on the “Client” folder located in the folder with .Net - “v4”, right-click and select the “Permissions” option from the list of commands that opens.
- In the “Permissions for the Administrators group” field, check the “Full Control” option in the “Allow” column, click “Apply” and “OK”.
- Double-click with the left mouse button on the reg entry under the name “Version”, located in the “Client” folder, and then specify the “Value” equal to 4.5. Use a dot as a fraction separator.
- Restart PC: You can install AutoCAD and any other “harmful” application without uninstalling Net Framework 4.
What is the Microsoft net framework used for?
The thing is, it's not really a program. Microsoft net framework is a software environment (platform) within which or using which various games and programs are developed.
For these very programs or games to work, you need to have the Microsoft net framework on your computer, since it is like a connecting link thanks to which your operating system understands how to execute the code that you give it when running the program or game.
Nowadays, almost all games and programs are written using the Microsoft net framework. That is why when installing them, they must install this software environment.
Framework compatibility
Each edition of the Framework corresponds to a specific version of Windows.
Your computer must meet specific requirements to support the package. A logical rule works here - the newer the framework, the more resources it requires for normal operation. You are unlikely to install it on an old computer. net package 4 editions. Versions of the program starting with release 3.5 have been criticized because they do not install on versions of Windows older than Windows 7. This creates a lot of inconvenience for users, since installing new frameworks on old Windows requires a lot of time and effort. Experts also criticize the platform for its lack of support for SSE calls.
Varieties of Microsoft Net Framework:
- .NET Compact Framework - version for devices running on the Windows CE platform.
- .NET Micro Framework - version for 32- and 64-bit microcontrollers.
- DotGNU is an analogue of the main program and is open source.
- Portable.NET is a version with portable tools and does not require installation.
Is it possible to remove Microsoft net framework?
Definitely not! If you do this, then most programs and games on your computer will simply refuse to work, giving an error with missing files when starting up.
Error when starting the program due to missing Microsoft net framework
Many users often encounter such a problem as uninstalling the .Net Framework program. In some versions this is not so easy to do, so you have to resort to various tricks. In general, you can remove any version of the .Net Framework if you wish. But before you start, it’s worth understanding in detail what this program is, why you should delete it, and whether it’s worth doing.
Shutdown
Since it is impossible to remove the NET Framework in Windows 8 or 10, you need to do this:
- Open Control Panel and go to the Uninstall Programs application again.
- In the left column, select Turn Windows features on or off.
- In the list you will find lines related to the NET Framework. Remove the checkboxes next to them and confirm your decision with the OK button.
Now you know how to remove the NET Framework in Windows 7 and how to disable this service in Windows 8 and 10.
After complete removal, you must install a new version. It is recommended to download it only from the official website. You can find the required file on the Microsoft website in the appropriate section.
To prevent Windows from downloading new versions of the NET Framework, you can disable automatic updates in the operating system settings.
To restore functionality without completely deleting it, you need to use the Repair Tool utility.

What is the Microsoft .NET Framework?
.Net Framework is a built-in Windows program. But what is it for? Let's start with the fact that this is not exactly a program in the usual sense. This is a software platform and it is needed for the operation of other programs that are written on this platform.
Most programs are written for any version of the .Net Framework. That is why we have no problems running standard software on a computer. After all, absolutely any version of Windows has one or another .Net Framework installed.
But sometimes situations happen when the software refuses to function, requiring you to install a suitable platform. What can this mean if the .Net Framework sits quietly on the computer and no one has even tried to remove it before? Most likely, this means that the installed version of the .Net Framework is not suitable for the program. Some programs are not universal, so the platform must be reinstalled for them.
What to do if the library is not updated
If the library is not updated or installed, then there are two options: updating the system and uninstalling the previous version.
System update
The reason for errors appearing during installation or updating of the .NET Framework may be uninstalled Windows 10 updates that are necessary for its operation. To install all the required components using the official standard method, follow these steps:
- Expand your computer settings. Open computer settings
- Select the Updates & Security tab. Go to the “Updates and Security” section
- Expand the “Update Center” sub-item and use the “Check for updates” button. Done, wait until all the found components are installed on your computer. Please note that you will need to restart your device to complete the update installation. Be sure to check for update code 3005628; if it is missing on your computer, download and install it separately from the official Microsoft website. Click on the “Check for updates” button
Uninstalling previous versions
To completely automatically remove all library components, use a third-party .NET Framework Cleanup Tool. After downloading, installing and running it, you will need to select the version of your system and click the Cleanup Now button. Once the process is complete, restart your computer for all changes to take effect and repeat the update or library installation process.
Removing the library using the NET Framework Cleanup Tool
The NET Framework library is necessary for many programs and games to work, so always check for updates for it, as without them some applications will refuse to work correctly. For older programs, you may need an older version of the library; to install it, first remove the already installed version.

Currently, the vast majority of common software applications used in the Windows 10 environment require a Microsoft product called the .NET Framework. This platform allows the operating system to convert software applications compiled in other programming languages, making them understandable directly in Windows 10. Sometimes the platform may experience some malfunctions, leading to the inability of newly installed programs to work. To correct errors of this kind, it becomes necessary to reinstall the .NET Framework or update the platform.
Is it possible to remove .Net Framework?
Of course, in some cases, the .Net framework is still worth removing. But in what cases is this worth doing and in what cases is it not? The problem is that some users don't understand the purpose of the software platform and uninstall it to free up hard drive space. For this reason, you definitely shouldn’t uninstall, because without the .Net framework, many programs simply won’t run on your computer.
It is precisely in order to insure users against unwanted program uninstallation that some versions of the .Net framework have special protection that does not allow them to simply get rid of it.
But in what case should the platform be deleted? Only if you plan to install a new version of the program and you no longer need the old one. Although many successfully combine the work of several versions on one computer.
Third party program
Many people use various programs from third-party developers to clean their PCs of unnecessary utilities. For example, CCleaner. In it you can clean the registry, cache files, and also remove unnecessary software. Open the program and follow the instructions:
- Go to the "Service" section.
- Open the “Uninstall programs” subsection.
- Find the line with NET Framework and click on the “Uninstall” button on the right side of the window.
- Follow the removal instructions.
This option is also appropriate when using the Windows 7 and earlier operating systems. Now let's move on to disabling the service in Windows 8 or 10.
How to remove Microsoft .NET Framework versions 4-4.5
It is not difficult to remove the .Net framework program. This is done in the same way as with all other programs. Do the following:
- Using the right function key, click on the “Windows” button in the lower left corner of the screen and go to “Control Panel”.
Thus, the software platform is completely removed from the computer and a new one can be installed. But this operation can be done so easily only with .NET Framework versions 4-4.5.
Standard utility
To uninstall using this method, you must use the standard Add or Remove Programs application. To open it, follow these steps:
- Open Control Panel. This can be done through the search bar on the taskbar, through the Start menu, or by right-clicking on the start icon and selecting the appropriate item.
- Select the “Category” view type and open the “Programs” subsection.
- Now in the “Programs and Features” block, click on the “Uninstall a program” button.
- Find the line with the name of the program in the list and right-click on it. Then select "Delete/Change".
- In the window that opens, select the second item and click “Next”.
- Now follow the instructions in the installer window.
Ready! All that remains is to restart the PC and check its functionality. We remind you that after uninstallation, many applications may no longer function. However, this method is only suitable for Windows 7 and lower, since it is in this version that the NET Framework appears in the list of installed programs. In Windows 8 and 10, older versions of the application are built into system files, so you cannot remove them, but you can disable them (more on this below).
Now you know how to remove Microsoft NET Framework using standard Windows operating system tools. Let's move on to the second method.
How to disable Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5
Although .Net framework 3.5 is an earlier version, unfortunately it cannot be easily removed. You can only turn it off. The program itself will remain on the computer, although it will not function. In principle, you can leave it and just install another version. But you can simply turn it off.
- Just like in the first option, you need to open the screen with installed elements. On the left there is a menu in which we need to select the third item. He is below the rest.
The note! In the same way, you can disable not the entire software platform, but only its individual services.
Thus, although the uninstallation did not happen, it was still possible to disable it.
Using standard Windows features
Uninstalling Framework package versions 4.0-4.5
1. Click the Start button (in the lower left corner of the desktop).
Note. If you have Windows 8 installed, right-click on the Start icon.
2. Click “Control Panel” in the list of sections.
3. Select “Uninstall a program” (category “Programs”).
4. In the list of installed applications, hover over the package name, and then right-click. Click on the “Delete/Change” option that opens.
5. In the maintenance utility window, enable the “Delete...” function (click on the radio button).
6. Click "Next" and follow the instructions of the uninstaller.
Enable/disable .NET Framework 3.5
This version of the package cannot be removed by system tools, since it is integrated into Windows. You can only disable it (the elements will remain on the computer, but will not function).
1. Open the “Removing and changing a program” section (see points No. 1-No. 3 of the previous manual).
2. In the menu located on the left side of the software list, click “Shutdown or Disable...”. Wait a moment while the system generates a component catalog.
3. In the new window, click the mouse and uncheck the box next to the “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5” element. Click OK.
Advice! In the same way, you can disable additional platform services of version 4.5 (they are located in the list of components just below).
It will take a little time for Windows to implement your changes.
Using software from Microsoft
Sometimes there are situations where the Microsoft .NET Framework does not work correctly. In this case, you can use special Microsoft tools to check the functionality of the program. To do this you need to do the following.
- Go to the official Microsoft developer block in the .NET Framework program section.
If something doesn't work right, the platform must either be reinstalled or restored.
How to understand what type of bit depth should be downloaded
At the very beginning of visiting a site where the visitor intends to download the net framework for Windows 10, it is necessary to decide in order to choose the correct system, which is indicated by the bit depth.
In other words, you need to choose the right number indicating the type of discharge.
Uninstalling microsoft net framework
Finding out the bit depth
To understand whether you need a net framework for Windows 10 x64 or 32, just follow the following instructions:
- Find in the lower right corner the symbol of a flag divided into four parts. You should select it by clicking the mouse button on the left. A tab will open there with a list in which the “parameters” position should be located.
- After clicking on this item, you will be taken to another list; the last line called “about the system” is required.
- The same mouse manipulation is applied to it. Now the user has information about the computer and its system.
Determining the bit depth, method 1
As you can see in the figure, in the system description at the bottom of the window on the computer, 32 bits are indicated, there is also information about:
- release of the Windows 10 Pro operating system;
- product code, processor (its power is 2.40 GHz, name Intel Core2 Duo CPU);
- RAM (its size is 2 Gb);
- pen and touch input (that pen and touch input are not available for this monitor).
This means that, without paying attention to the type of processor, we conclude that it is necessary to install .Net*32 for your PC. It is worth noting that the device simply will not accept a different bit size and your efforts will be in vain

How to install .net framework 3.5 and 4.5 in Windows 10
Please note that a bit depth of 32 can also be indicated as 86; this confuses many people; it seems that this is an innovation. But in the world of programming these nuances are easily explained
To use the second method, you need to:
- Find the “This computer” icon on the desk called “work”; it is usually indicated by a computer of some old model. You need to click on this sign with the mouse button located on the right. Then a list of things that can be done will appear (pin to quick access panel, control, pin to start screen, connect/disconnect network drive, create shortcut, delete, rename). We need the lowest point - properties.
- A block called “system” will appear, where various data that may be useful to the user will be displayed.
- Here you need to find out what the bit capacity of this PC is.
Determining the bit depth, method two
As you can see in the figure, in the system description at the bottom of the window on the computer, 32 bits are indicated, there is also information about:
- release of the Windows 10 Pro operating system;

Restoring the Microsoft .NET Framework
To restore the functionality of the platform, the developers also provided a special utility. To perform a restore, do the following.
- In the same blog where you downloaded the previous program, click on the second link in the first heading.
How to Install Microsoft .NET Framework
To install a new version of the Microsoft .NET Framework, you will need a special program called .NET Version Detector. You need to proceed as follows.
- Download the program from its official website.

Additionally, you should scan your computer using AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes Antimalware or Hitman Pro.
Note! To detect mining software on your computer, you can download a special utility for checking information about the video card and graphics processor - GPU-Z - from the official website. After downloading and installing GPU-Z, you need to look at the “GPU Memory Block” parameter: if no application is currently open on the PC, and the memory is at least 20% loaded, this is already a reason to think
How to install, uninstall or find out the version of Microsoft NET Framework
Thanks to Microsoft.Net Framework 4, it is possible to operate different types of programs together, for example, computer games in the Windows environment. However, it is not uncommon for users to encounter difficulties when the NET Framework is not installed, and the system displays various error alerts. Below are instructions describing all the steps that need to be performed if the NET Framework 4 is not installed on a computer running Windows 7.
Which version of Microsoft .NET Framework to choose
Usually, what is downloaded is what is useful for running a specific program. But what if there is no .NET Framework on the computer at all?
The fact is that each new version of the .NET Framework includes all the functions that were in the previous one. So, in most cases, you can't go wrong if you just install the latest version released at the moment. Or simply install the program that was on the computer by default before uninstallation.
But to run certain programs you need an older version. Everything here is selected individually.
Why does the error appear?
Often, software installation packages may not scan the operating system (OS) or try to install something on top of the existing copy. Sometimes, the problems are much deeper.
Availability of a component in the system
The most common case when Net Framework 4 is not installed is if it is installed on Windows 7, 8 or 10. Depending on the OS, it may already be installed:
- XP. Does not support installation of Framework with version higher than 3.5;
- 7. Pirated assemblies (not pure images from Microsoft) may contain the installation package of a component and install it during system installation;
- 8 and 10. The package is already preinstalled in the system.
You can check the presence of the Framework in the system as follows (using Windows 10 as an example):
- Open the Start menu and start typing “Components”.
- Select "Turn Windows features on or off."
- Find the “Net Framework” lines and see if there are checkmarks next to them.
Windows update required
Sometimes, when installing a program, you may see a message stating that it is impossible to install the Net Framework component in the current state of Windows. This is usually what Seven users encounter. In this case, you will need to run the update.
Just as some programs require the Net Framework, the framework itself requires some updates on the system. The best solution is to let the system update. True, this may take some time.
Inability to install an outdated version of a component
The most annoying error in installing Net Framework. Some programs do not receive updates for a long time and use a specific function from the Microsoft Net Framework 2.0. They work fine on Windows XP, but crash on Windows 8 with an error.
The problem is that in this case nothing can be done. It's easier to find a replacement program. After all, Net Framework 3.5 includes a modified set of commands and outdated solutions have been removed from it. If there is a version of No Framework 3.5 in the system, the addition of others will be blocked. For Windows 7 and 8, you can disable it and install the old version of the library, and then enable the new one. In Windows 10, nothing can be done, the possibility of adding is denied by the Microsoft website, and when downloading the package we are warned about incompatibility.
A similar problem can be seen when Net Framework 4.7 is installed on the system. It will simply block the addition of 4.
Intermediate component removed
You may also encounter the following problem: the installation requires a previous framework. For example, installing Framework 2 will remove 3. If you then try to install version 4 (or higher), an error message will appear. Therefore, before installing new options, you need to check the presence of old ones.
Windows is not licensed
If there is no license for the OS, updating and working with components will not work. If there is a message on the screen about the need for activation, it is simply impossible to install libraries. First you need to solve the activation problem.
Other problems
If none of the above solutions are suitable for installation, then you should go another way:
- Find and download the installation package from the Microsoft website.
- Try installing the component using it.
- Find an alternative package installer.
- Try to run it.
At this point, all possible options have been exhausted.
How to defragment a disk
To defragment a disk, do the following:
- Right-click on the drive and go to Properties.
The note! Defragmentation should not be done too often. This leads to disc wear. Do this only when you notice problems in its operation.
