Link. Size about 75 MB.
An ideal option for beginners - the clear descriptions and tips that this program provides will help.
If Winlocker is running on your computer (banner at login), a bootable USB flash drive with antivirus will help. I have already told you how to boot from such flash drives and disks .

Virus scan with ESET: enter your email - Your computer can also be scanned for viruses by downloading a file. But in the case of Eset, it is significantly smaller (about 13 MB) than utility files from other developers;
- Launch the downloaded file;
Launch the ESET virus scanner on your computer - Select your language and click the button Beginning of work;
Click Get Started to launch the virus scanner - Traditionally, you need to check the “agreements”, indicating that we agree to send data to assist in research (send anonymous data, etc.) and click Continue;
Setup before scanning PC viruses in ESET - Then you need to specify the scanning method and start it.

HerdProtect
An online antivirus that scans all computer files using 68 antivirus databases. explained how to use it in a separate article - 68 antiviruses in one free bottle.
This is a good option if you have unlimited internet.
Disadvantage: it cannot disinfect infected files.
Plus: you don’t need to download again to check, the databases are always fresh.
Useful information and recommendations from the master
- Any online antivirus has a chance of false positives. No matter what they analyze, there is a high probability that at least one of the 68 built-in antivirus programs will display a threat. But this does not mean that it really exists. It’s another matter when 10-20 out of 68 recognize a dangerous object. In this case, most likely the file being scanned contains a virus and it is better to delete it.
- For comprehensive protection, it is advisable to install the full version of security software. Paid or free, there is not much difference. You can even use Windows 10 Defender. This is important because there are threats, for example, miners, that are saved on your computer automatically when you open a dangerous site. In this case, it is not necessary to click on different download buttons and follow links.
- Get the “WOT” browser extension. This is an automatic analyzer with rating. When opening a dangerous page, a corresponding notification will be displayed and the transition will stop.
- Scan your PC every month with several different applications, preferably through Safe Mode. An effective combination is: Cureit, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, Emergency Kit, AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (it is not written about because it requires installation, but it is a very effective tool) and CCleaner for cleaning the OS. And of course, don’t forget about VirusTotal.
I hope the material is useful. If you have any questions, ask in the comments. I will be glad to help my readers. See you soon!
Norton Security Scan
Norton Security Scan is another one-time antivirus. You can download it here. The interface is English, but simple.
Checks hard drives very quickly. Requires an Internet connection, just like Eset Online Scanner.
When you first start it, it creates a shortcut to itself, which is strange.
In general, it is better not to use it, since viruses common in Russia enter its database a little late. The newest winlockers (ransomware banners) are unlikely to be detected.
No download and no installation
Let's start with services that allow you to quickly check your laptop or PC for malware and viruses without downloading or installing scanners. They work online, the only thing you need is stable Internet access and a little knowledge.
VirusTotal
Checks files, archives (rar and zip), individual exe objects and website addresses. During the scanning process, it uses a database of 68 popular and reliable antiviruses. Thanks to this, the need to scan in other antivirus programs is completely eliminated. The big minus is that there are restrictions on the size of the uploaded document. At the moment it is more than 600 MB and the figure is constantly growing.
Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal (Virusdesk)
Online antivirus from Kaspersky. To work, it does not require anything other than the Internet and a browser. Equipped with the most up-to-date databases and a Russian-language interface. The maximum file size should not exceed 256 MB. This is not very convenient and is only suitable for scanning small objects. Basic functions are available without registration, except for one - analyzing web addresses.
Jotti's malware scan
Another free online service. Checks suspicious files using several databases. Among them are F-Secure, VBA32, Sophos, ClamAV, GDATA and others. Available in Russian. Limits apply - up to 250 MB.
National Multiscanner
A new tool that was launched in test mode, but despite this it gives good results. The analysis uses technologies that none of the previous services have. An archive containing 10 viruses was sent for testing; he found 8 of them. In my opinion, an excellent result. It's definitely worth a try. Current restrictions are up to 250 MB.
Metadefender Cloud
Cloud online antivirus. It is based on advanced technologies used to detect the latest types of threats. It works quite quickly and even finds adware, not to mention Trojans and worms. Volume restrictions apply - up to 140 MB.
NANO
Russian security software developers also have online antivirus. The only drawback is the volume. It should not exceed 20 MB. Therefore, you can only check small files: exe, documents, patches, activators and cracks. The main advantage is exclusivity. Its bases are not included in other tools discussed above.
VirSCAN
Uses various anti-virus databases. In terms of capabilities, it is somewhat reminiscent of VirusTotal. Easily detects viruses, Trojans, backdoors, spyware and dialers. The downside is that it is limited to 20 MB. But it is possible that the volume will be increased in the future. Now all that remains is to wait.
Dr.Web Online
Doctor Web also has something similar. True, there are volume restrictions - 10 MB. Record lowest point. We can only hope that over time the size will be increased, as Kaspersky and Virustotal did.
AVZ or Zaitsev Antivirus
AVZ, Zaitsev Anti-Virus is a powerful anti-virus utility (not a full-fledged anti-virus!) for advanced users. There is not a sea of functions, but a whole ocean.
Supports updating anti-virus databases from the Internet. Unlike disposable antiviruses, it cannot treat infected *.exe files. It is more of an “anti-spyware” with many unique additional features. I will quote the words of the author of AVZ: “The utility is a direct analogue of the Trojan Hunter and LavaSoft Ad-aware 6 programs. The primary task of the program is to remove AdWare, SpyWare and Trojan programs.” The archive with the program contains help on all functions; it must be read carefully before the first launch.
How to check a website or file on the Internet for viruses
Our wonderful global network has a free tool that can check sites. And also any files that are located on a remote server. This gives us a way to check files for viruses before they are even downloaded! It works like this:
- For example, I need to download an image from the site nezlop.ru. I select it with RMB and press Copy image link;
Copying a link to check an image for viruses - I open https://www.virustotal.com/ and select the tab URL;
Select the URL tab on the VirusTotal website - I paste the link and click on the button in the form of a magnifying glass;
- Below are the scan results for all popular antivirus systems at once.
Online virus scan results
Using this method, you can check games before downloading, music, books and other files that we often download on the Internet. Unfortunately, torrent files are not so easy to check using Virus Total. Since we only download a link to initialize the download in the torrent client. And further downloading of the file occurs through connected peers.
Any downloaded game is safe until you run the installation file (.exe or launcher). Therefore, before installation, you always have time to check the game using anti-virus utilities. Links to them are located above. Do not forget to check your computer for viruses as a preventative measure, even when they do not manifest themselves.

Final advice
Of course, these are only the basic and most frequently used methods that allow you to check a laptop, desktop PC or mobile device for viruses. There are also many special programs designed for specific threats.
Finally, it remains to add that installing applications like SpyHunter that are so widely advertised on the Internet is not recommended in any case, since without purchasing the full version of the package, it will be impossible to remove the threats found, and getting rid of the program itself will be even more difficult and problematic than the same ad viruses .
Checking the process manager
This is the first thing that comes to my mind when suspicions arise. Often, a Trojan disguises itself as a safe process and does its dark business. How to detect?
Open the list of running services and applications using the combination “Ctrl - Shift - Esc”.
Systemic ones should be excluded immediately.
Review your list carefully. “Spyware” and other malicious programs can be hidden under the same names with a difference of one or two letters. Here, take a closer look:
If the list contains names consisting of a meaningless collection of letters and numbers, it is worth considering:
If you have any doubts, it is better to type the name of the process into a search engine to find out more about it.
One of these is the Recycler virus, I talked about how you can get rid of it.

Microsoft Safety Scanner
In recent years, Microsoft has expanded its list of free software.
Today on the MS services website you can download a free Windows security scanner for 32 and 64-bit versions.
Be careful - if you have a “cracked” version of Windows, checking with Microsoft antivirus will cause the system to crash.

How to find out about infection?
Hackers who develop malicious scripts are quite cunning individuals who skillfully disguise the threat as a safe program. In any case, there is no need to panic and see danger in everything. It is necessary to carefully analyze the situation.
You can start to worry when:
- When Windows starts, a lock window appears that contains text like “You have violated such and such articles of the criminal code and the case will be taken to court. To avoid this, send SMS/recharge etc.” Remember, not so long ago I talked about this virus?
- You cannot access social networking sites or search engines. Again, a window appears asking you to pay money. I wrote about this in detail in a feature article.
- The system does not respond too quickly to your commands, applications open slowly, and the procedure for copying/moving files takes too long.
- The OS takes longer to load than before. It is worth considering that this symptom is relevant if you have not installed third-party applications that could be registered in startup.
- When the PC starts, the browser opens on its own, its home page is changed, and network traffic is constantly consumed (even though you do nothing).
- Spam begins to be sent on your behalf (via e-mail and social network accounts).
- Double-clicking the mouse when opening files stops working (provided that the manipulator is working).
- Documents, installed applications and other files begin to disappear without a trace.
- The software does not start or runs with errors that did not exist before.
If any of the listed signs occur, there is a possibility of infection. But don’t panic, because I’m always ready to tell you how to remove viruses.
Inappropriate behavior of installed programs
A clear sign of infection is inappropriate behavior of programs. Sudden shutdowns , operation with malfunctions or “brakes”, closing without errors , switching to startup or starting on its own - all this may indicate the presence of viruses.
In this situation, you should also pay attention to the operation of anti-virus software, since malware often disables the defender , leaving the system alone with viruses. In addition, you should carefully read the list of recently installed programs and applications, since virus software can often install programs of unknown purposes.
You can check the list of installed programs as follows:
Step 1. Left- “Search” icon (the magnifying glass image next to the “Start” button) and enter the phrase “Control Panel” , after which we go directly to the “Control Panel” .
Step 2. In the window that opens, go to “Uninstall a program” .
Step 3. In the window that opens, just click on the “Installed” and sort programs by installation date, where you can find all installed programs.
