Samsung has a lot of great flagship devices in its arsenal, all of which are capable of providing you with a seamless Android experience. Even though Samsung hasn't introduced a stock version of Android, it has managed to create quite a fan base for itself, which is primarily due to its easy-to-learn user interface.
However, despite having one of the cleanest user interfaces, Samsung One UI has taken the liberty of changing some pre-established truths, one of which happens to be the topic of our discussion today - the procedure for turning off your Galaxy flagship device when you don't remember your password.

Standard shutdown methods
If the Samsung Galaxy A5 works in its usual mode, then it can be disabled using the built-in Android tools. There are two options for completing the work.
Pressing a physical button
The easiest way to turn off your smartphone is to use the power key, which is located on the right side of the device. To complete the work you will need:
- Press the “Power” button.
- In the window that appears, select the “Shutdown” option.
- Confirm the operation.
After this, the phone screen will go dark and it will shut down. If the Power key is unresponsive, or you just want to have an idea of shutdown alternatives, consider shutting down the shortcut via the Quick Access Toolbar.
Quick Access Toolbar
This option is suitable for people who do not want or cannot turn off the Samsung Galaxy A5 using a physical button. You can call the shutdown menu using the additional menu:
- Lower the notification shade.
- Click the button that looks like the standard “Off” icon.
- Select the "Shutdown" option and confirm the action.
Thus, during shutdown, you do not access the physical “Power” button, but perform the operation only using the touch layer of the screen.
Alternative shutdown methods
Next, we will consider additional scenarios on how you can forcefully turn off your Samsung Galaxy A5 phone if you have forgotten the password or, for example, on a device with a broken screen.
Turn off Samsung Galaxy A5 with faulty screen
If the Samsung Galaxy A5 sensor does not work and the smartphone does not respond to touching the screen, then you can try to shut down the device with a black screen using the buttons. More precisely, it is proposed to hold down the “Power” and “Volume Down” keys, holding them down until the display goes off. Typically, this takes 10-15 seconds and the phone turns off without the sensor.
How to disable screen lock on Samsung
To begin with, we note that there are several types of screen locks on Samsung phones. Let's highlight the main ones:
- moving across the screen is the traditional method;
- specifying a PIN code - requires entering a special numeric combination;
- graphic key is the best solution for visual learners;
- fingerprint is a convenient way to protect information due to the impossibility of deceiving the sensor;
- detection of the face or iris of the eye - options are being introduced in new Samsung models;
- specifying a password - enter a set of letters and numbers.
There are other screen lock methods that can be installed additionally.
To cancel the screen lock on Samsung, just go to the settings of your smartphone. The instructions work for all modern Galaxy models, including A50, J3 and others. The action algorithm looks like this:
- Find the settings section.
- Go to the Lock Screen tab.
- In the menu that appears, you will see all the blocking methods.
- Select the No option.
These steps allow you to remove the lock option, after which the phone will turn on by pressing the power button. Note that removing the option also removes information about the owner’s face and fingerprint, if this data was added previously.
Another option is to use automatic unlocking. To do this, many Android smartphones (including Samsung) have a Smart Lock option. This method only works when setting a PIN, pattern or password. Go to the Screen Lock and Security section, and then click on Smart Lock. Specify the blocking information and conditions for how to remove it:
- Physical touch, for example, picking up the device.
- Safe places. In this case, the map indicates the points where you need to remove the smartphone blocking.
- Reliable device. Here you configure a trusted device via Bluetooth, and when you bring it to it, it unlocks.
- Voice Match. To remove the blocking, just say Ok Google.
Let us note once again that this option is not available on all Samsung phones.

How to set a ringtone on Samsung A5 2017?
To set a ringtone, go to the settings tab and from there to the “Sounds and vibration” item. We choose where you want to put a melody or sound - a notification or SMS for a call. A music tab will open, where we select the desired track. If you need a melody for a specific contact, then click “Phone” - “Contacts”. From the list we find the desired subscriber. Go to “Details” - “Edit” - “More”. At the very end of the list of parameters there is a “Ringtone” item. Click “Allow access to media data” (if not already allowed) and at the very bottom, in addition to standard melodies, the “Add from phone” button will appear. Next, select the track you like and you’re done. In order for the melody to be located in the general list, using any file manager we place it in the sdcard/Notifications folder.
How to connect Samsung A5 to TV?
- Download the Screen Mirroring Assistant application from the play market (if it is not already installed), and after launching it, the TV will be searched. You need to select TV in the list of found ones and the image and sound from the phone will be broadcast on the screen.
- We buy an MHL adapter with an 11-pin connector for Samsung, which we connect to the smartphone in the charging socket. We connect the other end with the HDMI output to the TV.
- We buy a special Wi-Fi adapter that works using Miracast technology and connect it to the HDMI connector on the TV. The phone's Wi-Fi transmitter will broadcast the signal to this adapter with Full-HD resolution and five-channel audio.
- If you are using a Samsung SmartTV, a simple solution would be to use AllShare Cast technology. We activate the function in the “Settings” - “Advanced settings” section, and then go to the TV menu and use the smart TV interface via the DLNA network to view the contents of the smartphone. For other TVs, we purchase the AllShare Cast Dongle, and use a special icon on the phone to send the file to the big screen.
How to unlock Samsung A5 if you forgot your password?
According to the official Samsung website, there are two effective ways for the A5:
Find My Mobile is a service for removing a pattern, PIN code, password or fingerprint. Internet required.
Reset data - to delete a pattern, PIN code, password or fingerprint. The device memory will also be cleared.
To be honest, I have not tested these methods. I recommend reading this article.
As a last resort, use a hard reset, which is described below.
Should I delete the application?
All flagship Samsung models are equipped with the Samsung Free entertainment app. It does not pose any threat to the security of the device, but it does consume its resources. Many smartphone owners note a rather meager selection of casual games and a modest number of podcasts, most of which are not translated into Russian. Accordingly, the application is not of particular interest to Russian-speaking users. It is impossible to completely remove Samsung Free, but you can stop it using the instructions below.

How to Force Shut Down a Samsung Galaxy Device
Samsung currently has four flagship families on the market. First, we have the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, which was succeeded by the Note 10 series. Then, in 2022, came the S20 and Note 20 series respectively. The S10 series had a dedicated Bixby button, which is a little different for troubleshooting. On the other hand, the other three models have the Bixby key built into the power button.

Force shutdown Galaxy S10
As discussed in the previous section, we can no longer turn off the Samsung flagship by simply pressing the Volume Down key and the Power button. This will restart the phone rather than take you to the recovery screen.
To turn off your phone, you first need to put it into reboot mode. To do this, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time for 7-10 seconds. You will feel a slight vibration and see the phone boot up. Just before this, release the Volume Down button and press the Volume Up button. Be sure to keep the power button pressed throughout the entire process. You should now see the recovery screen in front of you. Go to the Power Off option at the bottom of the list and press the Bixby button to confirm your action. If you're lucky, your phone will turn off forever.

Since the Galaxy Note 10 doesn't have a dedicated Bixby key, and for good reason, you'll need to use the Power button to complete the selection.
So, first press the Volume Down button and the Power button for 7 to 10 seconds to make the phone reboot. Once you feel a slight vibration, release the Volume Down button and switch to Volume Up while keeping the Power button pressed. Your phone should now boot into recovery mode. Scroll to the end of the list and select Power Off and confirm your choice using the Power key.

Since the process is identical to the one described above, we decided to combine the two current generation flagships together. These One UI devices do not come with a Bixby button, which means you must use the Power button to confirm your selection.
Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time for 7 to 10 seconds or until you feel a slight vibration. Now swap the Volume Down key in favor of Volume Up and keep the Power button pressed until you see your phone enter recovery mode. Use two volume keys to navigate; Scroll down to "Power Off" and press the Power button to confirm your choice.
Reasons why your phone may freeze
The first thing you should understand when considering the situation is why your Samsung phone freezes. There are two groups of reasons:
- Software glitches. This category includes problems related to the operation of an application or errors in the operation of the OS. To solve this, you need to reboot the device if it freezes, but an existing conflict prevents you from doing this. There are a number of solutions here, which we will discuss below.
- Mechanical problems. Many blame the fact that the smartphone is frozen on software failures, without paying attention to other reasons. In particular, the situation may be due to poor contact or a malfunction that is hidden from the user’s eyes, but does not allow the device to reboot. If your Samsung phone often freezes even after resetting, the cause may be a mechanical failure. In this case, it is better to take the smartphone to a service center and entrust its restoration to specialists. They will be able not only to reboot the device, but also to identify the malfunction.
If we consider the main reasons, software failure comes first. Let's consider this question in detail.
Using Shortcut Maker
Let's look at an app to get rid of the Bixby app. Using it, you can also disable other applications that bother you on your smartphone.
For example, you can easily disable the Samsung Daily app:
- Install and launch the application;
- A list of applications that are installed on your phone will open. Enter “Settings” in the search bar; Find the Settings option
- A list of applications according to the specified parameter will appear on the screen. Select "Samsung Daily";
- Next, select the “View” button;
- Click on the “Samsung Daily Key” button;
- From the two values, select “Do not open anything”;
- Save your settings.
In this way, you can control any buttons on your smartphone whose settings are not available in the standard settings.
How to connect Samsung A5 to a computer via USB?
In this model, the manufacturer installed a new USB Type-C connector. Therefore, if the original cable from the box is lost, you will have to buy it in a store or order it on Aliexpress. Indeed, often such a cord cannot be found among neighbors due to its relative novelty. If you have a cable, everything is simple. You plug it into the connector of your computer, and after the connection notification lights up on the phone screen, you agree.
How to insert a SIM card into Samsung A5?
New smartphones are getting bigger, and their components are getting smaller. Nowadays nano-type SIM cards are used. If you have a new large SIM card, released after 2011, you can trim it with a special device. It is better to reissue old cards because they stop working after cutting.
To install a SIM card into the phone, we will use the included pin to pull out the compartment for the SIM card and flash drive. Next, insert the card and push it back into the phone. The compartment on the left side is intended for card No. 1. The upper compartment is for card No. 2. For clarity, I suggest watching the video:
