While most Samsung fans choose the S-series, with each release of a new model from the Note line, there are more and more fans of large, heavy and powerful smartphones. Samsung Galaxy Note 6 promises to be the biggest smartphone of 2016. Want to join his army of fans? Then read the information we have prepared for you:
Galaxy Note
The original Galaxy Note model appeared in September 2011.
Smartphones with large screens existed before her, but it was she who made people pay attention to this segment - phablets. The first Galaxy Note had a 5.3-inch screen, which is small by today's standards, but at the time it was much larger than other popular devices (like the iPhone). It was jokingly called a shovel, and its owners could be seen from afar. This model used a Super AMOLED screen with a Pentile matrix, a resolution of 1280x800 pixels and a graphic density of 285 ppi. Nowadays such indicators will not surprise anyone, but then it was a breakthrough.
The processor used was Exynos 4 with a clock frequency of 1.4 GHz or a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S3 (depending on the country of sale), 1 GB of RAM and a removable battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh. External chargers were not widespread at that time, and the smartphone consumed a lot of energy, so some of its owners carried a spare battery with them, which could be quickly inserted if necessary.
This model cannot be considered successful from a technical point of view: users complained about the quality of communication and the weak camera. Nevertheless, it became a hit, selling more than 10 million copies within a year. Oddly enough, users were not deterred by the stylus, but rather attracted.
Detailed review of Android smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000)
The Samsung Galaxy Note is without a doubt one of the hottest gadgets of 2011. Personally, I don’t remember any other smartphone (except perhaps the iPhone 4S) causing so much discussion. Let's try to figure out together what it is, a phone or a tablet, how justified its existence is and what kind of buyer it is designed for.

Positioning and competitive environment
Let me make a small confession: I love Samsung precisely because of its willingness to experiment with different market niches in search of an idea that could potentially “shoot.” The Samsung Galaxy Note is clearly the fruit of one such experiment. At the official presentation of the device, an interesting fact was announced: according to a study commissioned by Samsung in South Korea, there is a fairly large segment of users who constantly carry 2-3 devices with them (a laptop, a smartphone and sometimes a tablet). Note was created as an ideal gadget for representatives of this particular target audience. According to the manufacturer, it should replace a phone and a tablet, and in some situations also a laptop. At the moment, there is no need to talk about any competition from other manufacturers, since Note belongs to a completely new class of devices. The only thing that comes to mind is the dull Dell Streak 5. However, if the Galaxy Note turns out to be successful, new devices in this class will certainly not be long in coming.
Contents of delivery
The Galaxy Note package is no different from the Galaxy S II. In addition to the battery, charger and USB cable, the buyer receives an average quality headset with earbuds and a large amount of various waste paper.
Appearance and design features
There’s not much to tell about the appearance: the same Galaxy S II (aka “inexpressive black brick with rounded corners”), only proportionally increased in all dimensions except thickness. The case materials are also similar to those used in the SGS II: the front panel is completely covered with tempered Gorilla Glass, the battery cover is made of pleasant corrugated plastic. In general, as in the case of the Galaxy S II, I would like to see at least a little metal in a device of this class (and this price).
Separately, it is worth mentioning the size of the Galaxy Note. In terms of overall dimensions, it is approximately in the middle between 4.3-inch smartphones and 7-inch tablets. Of course, the perception of size is a purely individual thing, but the Note no longer fits in my pockets, and I don’t like carrying the phone in my bag. Although, apparently, it is most convenient to carry the Note in a bag (or an external pocket of a jacket/coat) and talk on it using a Bluetooth headset. Again, it’s difficult for me to draw any global conclusions, but personally, when I hold the Note to my ear, I stubbornly miss the speaker and therefore don’t hear the first few words spoken by the interlocutor. Among other little things that attract attention, I would like to mention the very unfortunate location of the call speaker on the back of the device - it is very easy to block it with your fingers if you hold the smartphone both vertically and horizontally. In this case, the sound is very muffled. Problems with hearing a call from a pocket or bag also occur.
Screen
Perhaps the most attractive feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note is its screen. The matrix, made using Super AMOLED technology, has a diagonal of 5.3 inches and a resolution of 1280x800 pixels (HD). The only fly in the ointment is the arrangement of subpixels according to the PenTile scheme, but with such a pixel density (285 ppi) this has virtually no effect on the clarity of the text. The Galaxy Note is the first HD phone on the market, and I sincerely hope that next year all top phones will come with similar screens. The difference between the typical 2011 resolution of 800x480 and 1280x800 is colossal: HD movies look simply great when viewed, the Gmail app can fit the headers of ten emails on one screen, and websites, even those not optimized for mobile devices, open in all their glory. In my opinion, we can now say with complete confidence that a full-fledged Internet has finally come to phones. Not even fifteen years have passed. The viewing angles of the screen can be assessed in the following photographs:
Software, interface, functionality
Galaxy Note runs the Android 2.3 operating system (at the time of writing this review, the OS was updated to version 2.3.6), on top of which the proprietary TouchWiz shell is installed. The shell itself is practically no different from the similar one in the Galaxy S II - in my opinion, this is one of the best and most convenient shells for Android (along with HTC Sense). Of the noteworthy little things, I would note very tight integration with social networks (even to the point that the birthdays of your Facebook contacts are automatically included in the calendar), a convenient phone book, a built-in file manager and a pre-installed full version of the Polaris Office office suite. Traditionally for top Samsung phones, the Galaxy Note has an excellent audio player (with a user-friendly interface, sorting by artist/album/genre, quick search and the ability to customize the equalizer) and a video player that understands almost all possible combinations of formats, codecs and resolutions ( up to FullHD).
Working with the pen
The Galaxy Note, like the HTC Flyer, is equipped with a stylus. In the case of the Galaxy Note, the pen is a passive device (that is, it does not need a battery to operate). Despite this, it is equipped with a button that allows you to perform various tricks:
- a long press with the pen on the screen while holding the button takes a screenshot and goes into editing mode (i.e., you can immediately write or draw something on the screenshot);
- double-tapping the screen while holding the button opens the S-Memo application - a notepad that allows you to draw, write, and so on;
- A stroke to the left while holding the button is similar to pressing the hardware “back” button;
- An upward stroke while holding the button is similar to pressing the hardware “menu” button.
It is worth noting that the Galaxy Note's pen has a very thin tip and allows you to perform actions on the screen with a high degree of accuracy. This is best seen when using drawing programs such as AutoDesk SketchBook Mobile. SGN also has handwritten text recognition, but with the Russian language it can be said that it does not work. A couple of sketches I quickly drew in SketchBook Mobile using the S-Pen:
Samsung is threatening to release an SDK for the stylus this month, so there could be third-party apps that take full advantage of its capabilities in the future. Personally, I would like to see support for pressure sensitivity in the aforementioned SketchBook Mobile.
Performance and autonomy
Samsung Galaxy Note is equipped with a dual-core Samsung Exynos processor clocked at 1.4 GHz and a Mali 400MP graphics processor. In general, the device configuration is similar to the Galaxy S II (except for the clock speed). Performance, as it turned out, also differs slightly from SGS II.
But the Galaxy Note boasts a battery with an unprecedented capacity - 2500 mAh. Overall, this is the first Android device that personally lasts me for a whole day of really intensive use (web surfing, watching movies, etc.). With an average load, the device is quite capable of working for 2-3 days, which is an excellent result.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Note uses the same camera module as the Galaxy S II, so I refer you to the latter's review for examples. Overall, the Galaxy Note provides excellent quality for both photos and videos.
Bottom line
To be honest, it’s been a long time since I came across a device that would leave such contradictory impressions after getting to know it. On the one hand, the Galaxy Note's size is clearly not pocket-sized, and it is not very convenient for use as a phone. On the other hand, the smartphone is distinguished, I’m not afraid of this word, by its brutal charisma and leaves no one indifferent, and the huge resolution screen and convenient stylus make it a suitable replacement for Android tablets. The Galaxy Note, like the Galaxy S II, is a real multimedia monster: it is equipped with an excellent camera, Samsung's pre-installed music player is simply the best among all manufacturers, and its proprietary video player easily plays files of any format and resolution, not disdaining external subtitles . At the same time, Note, unlike other Android smartphones, allows you to really use all these functions and not be afraid that by lunchtime you will have only 10% battery charge left. Personally, I don't remember the last time I parted with a test device with such regret. In my opinion, the Galaxy Note is not for everyone, but true gadget connoisseurs should pay close attention to it. Especially if they have big pockets. Considering all of the above, we have decided to award the Samsung Galaxy Note our most valuable award - the Editors' Choice badge. 5 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy Note:
- bright screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels;
- comfortable stylus with a thin tip;
- high performance;
- fantastic battery life;
- the best implementation of a music and video player among all manufacturers.
1 reason not to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note:
- The size will not suit everyone.
Attention! Competition! Win a Samsung Galaxy Note!
One of the striking features of the Samsung Galaxy Note is the S-Pen, which is sensitive to pressure and speed of movement on the screen. With this pen and the S-Memo app, you can create drawings, notes, and collages on the go, instantly capture ideas, and share them with family, friends, and colleagues. The editors of gagadget.com together with Samsung Electronics invite you to draw your day and win a Samsung Galaxy Note! What you need to do to take part in the competition:
- Draw a comic, collage, or sketch that describes your typical day.
- Take a photo or scan the drawing if it was drawn on paper.
- Upload your work to the website from December 12 to December 25, 2012 on the competition page and leave your contact information.
- Wait for the result!
When evaluating entries, creativity and level of execution will be taken into account first. You can use photographs to create collages, but the work must contain drawn elements. The jury reserves the right to reject the work if it considers the degree of drawing to be insufficient. Plagiarism entails disqualification of the participant and removal of the competition work. Only residents of Ukraine who have reached 16 years of age can take part in the competition. The results of the competition will be announced by December 28, 2011. The prize will be sent to the winner by mail. Employees of Samsung Electronics Ukraine and their affiliates cannot take part in the competition.
Galaxy Note II
After the stunning success of the first model, Samsung was simply obliged to release a second one with improved characteristics.
And she came out a year later. The screen diagonal has increased to 5.5 inches, but the resolution has dropped slightly (to 1280x720 pixels), giving a graphic density of 265 ppi. The processor has become faster (quad-core Exynos 4412 with a clock frequency of 1.6 GHz), the RAM has doubled, and the battery capacity has increased to 3100 mAh, which ensures an increase in battery life. There were no more complaints about the quality of voice communication, and the camera took amazing pictures. Overall, the Galaxy Note II developed the ideas implemented in the first model and brought them to a higher level.
Galaxy Note 3
Like the original model, the third generation of Galaxy Note came out with different processors: in some countries devices were sold with Exynos 5 Octa (8 cores, 1.9 GHz), and in others with Snapdragon 800 (4 cores, 2.3 GHz).
In addition, modifications with LTE support appeared for the first time. The screen is larger again: this time 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels with a density of 386 ppi. The 13-megapixel camera received support for shooting with 4K resolution. The battery is smaller (3200 mAh), but it is still removable, and the back cover, although plastic, is stylized as a premium material - leather. A module with an inductor coil is offered as an accessory, which provides wireless charging. The cable charges the smartphone and transmits data via a wide USB 3.0 connector.
The stylus has been slightly improved: a button has appeared, clicking on which opens a menu for working with Samsung proprietary applications.
Samsung Galaxy Note 6 specifications
First of all, we are talking about external changes. The screen will be larger compared to its predecessor. It will be 5.8 inches diagonally and will be equipped with a Slim RGB AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2560*1440 pixels. According to the latest rumors, the case will be protected from moisture and dust. The device will come with a stylus. Presumably, the screen will respond to different degrees of pressure.
At the moment, real photographs of the device are nowhere to be found. There are just a lot of different prototypes that show the Note 6 in different versions.
As for memory, good news awaits us - Note 6 will have as much as 6 GB of internal memory! At the same time, there is hope that the wishes of users of previous versions of this line will come true and the smartphone will be equipped with a slot for an additional memory card. After all, nowadays a gadget is used not only to make calls and use applications. It also stores photos, videos and music.
Note 6 smartphone camera
As for the camera, it will have a resolution of 12 megapixels and an optical stabilization system. There is no word yet on the characteristics of the front camera. Based on the advanced capabilities, the device must also have an appropriate battery. The estimated battery capacity will be 4500 mAh. At the same time, its thickness should increase, but not so significantly that users feel any discomfort during operation.
Samsung Galaxy Note 6 release date
Along with rumors about the release of the Galaxy Note 6, there are also rumors about the release of its modification with the addition of Edge in the name. We don’t yet know exactly when the Samsung Note 6 Edge will be released, as well as the release date of the Note 6. We can only assume that Samsung will not release its gadget immediately after and shortly before the release of the new version of the iPhone. Therefore, all calculations tell us that for the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 the release date is autumn 2016 (approximately September or October).
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo
This model was released in early 2014. It can be considered a massively cheaper version of the Galaxy Note 3. The stylus, of course, was preserved, but in all other key parameters it was slightly worse than the original. Screen – 5.5 inches (1280×720 pixels, 267 ppi), processor – Exynos 5 (8 cores, 1.7 GHz), RAM – 2 GB, camera – 8 MP, battery – 3100 mAh. In terms of design and feel, this smartphone is closer to the Galaxy Note II, but its back cover is stylized in leather, like the Galaxy Note 3.
Release date and price of Samsung Galaxy Note 6
As with the technical specifications, the Galaxy Note 6 release date varies from source to source. For example, authoritative insider @Evleaks points to the start of sales in mid-August 2016. In turn, no less authoritative South Korean media report that it will be possible to purchase a smartphone in mid-July.

There is no information from Samsung about the release date of Note 6 yet.
There is no pattern observed in the release dates of previous models:
- Galaxy Note 3 - September
- Galaxy Note 4 - October
- Galaxy Note 5 – August
Thus, we will expect Note 6 in the fall of 2016.
As for the cost, the estimated price of the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 will be about 50,000 rubles.
Features of Galaxy Note 6. What new will we see?
Apart from the 4K/UHD display, the Galaxy Note 6 will surprise us with super-fast 6GB or 8GB RAM and 256GB of built-in storage, unprecedented in a smartphone.
In addition, the main feature of the flagship may be a new version of Android. But judging by the fact that the release date for Android 7.0 N is set for the end of 2016, we are unlikely to see it on the Note 6 out of the box. In any case, there is no doubt that he will definitely get a 7. Another useful innovation should be the USB Type-C interface connector, which can provide twice as fast information transfer compared to USB 3.0 and faster charging. An obstacle to the implementation of this interface in Note 6 may be the fact that the Micro USB connector is used on existing Samsung branded headsets and 3D reality VR glasses.
We'll keep you updated on new features of the Galaxy Note 6 as insider and official information becomes available. Follow our website for news and updates.
Galaxy Note 4
This is the first Samsung smartphone with a Quad HD resolution screen and a metal frame.
And the world's first smartphone with a Snapdragon 805 processor (although a model with an Exynos 5433 chip was sold in some countries). The screen diagonal has not changed, there is no more RAM, the battery capacity has increased by an unnoticeable 20 mAh, but a fingerprint scanner has appeared, a heart rate sensor has appeared, the main camera has become 16 megapixels, and the front camera resolution has increased from 2 to 3.7 megapixels. The charging port is for some reason worse than the earlier model - USB 2.0.
Galaxy Note Edge
An experimental model on which Samsung tested a flexible AMOLED matrix.
In design and characteristics, this smartphone is not much different from the Galaxy Note 4, although the screen has been reduced to 5.6 inches. There is only one curved edge in the Galaxy Note Edge - on the right, it houses icons for quickly launching applications. Users complained about accidental clicks, and left-handers also complained about inconvenient placement (there was no option with the same edge on the left, although the Galaxy Note Edge later received an update that allows you to flip the image 180 degrees).

Galaxy Note 5
This smartphone has divided fans of the Galaxy Note series into two camps.
On the one hand, it received a metal body with a glass coating, which could not but rejoice, but on the other hand, it lost the features that attracted geeks. It has a missing memory card slot, a non-replaceable battery with a small capacity (3000 mAh) and no IR port for controlling equipment. In addition, the company decided not to sell it in some European countries, which negatively affected its popularity. The screen dimensions and resolution remained the same as the Galaxy Note 4. There was no version with a Snapdragon processor, only the version with the Exynos 7420 was released. It has 4 GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel camera with support for shooting 4K video, and built-in wireless support. charging.
The stylus has been noticeably improved: in this model it recognizes 2048 levels of pressure, you can write even when the screen is off, and a mechanism has appeared for automatically removing it.
Galaxy Note 7
Samsung decided not to release the Galaxy Note 6. In 2016, the Galaxy S7 was released, and users were not clear why the Galaxy Note series was one digit behind.
So, for the sake of marketing and contrary to logic, the Galaxy Note 7 was released a year after the Galaxy Note 5. However, the company would prefer not to remember the release of the Galaxy Note 7. Due to an error in the design of the device, the battery was cramped inside the case and was damaged by heat during charging, causing it to catch fire. After several dozen complaints from victims, Samsung decided to completely recall this model - from stores and from those who bought it.
There were relatively many improvements in the Galaxy Note 7 compared to the previous model: newer and more powerful Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 processors are used, the dimensions have slightly decreased while maintaining the same screen size, the edges of the screen are slightly curved and extend to the ends, the memory card slot has returned, the case has become waterproof, and the ill-fated battery has a sharply increased capacity - 3500 mAh. Charging and data transfer are carried out via the USB Type-C port for the first time for this series. At the same time, the camera resolution has decreased to 12 megapixels.
Detailed technical specifications of Samsung Galaxy Note 6
We present to your attention detailed technical specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Note 6. Compiled based on the most reliable leaks.
Here we look at the parameters of the base version of the Galaxy Note 6. The characteristics of the probable Galaxy Note 6 Edge and Galaxy Note 6 Edge/Neo are not taken into account here.
At the moment, we don’t know anything exactly about the dimensions and weight of the smartphone; the question also remains open about what exact processors the sixth Note will be based on. The prototypes use the already familiar Exynos 8890, and many media also mention the Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 (an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 820).

Galaxy Note 8
In 2022, a year after the failure of the Galaxy Note 7, the company nevertheless introduced a new phablet - the Galaxy Note 8. Particular emphasis was placed on safety - Samsung described in detail how thoroughly smartphone batteries are now tested.
This model can be considered a very vigorous breakthrough. The screen immediately increased to 6.3 inches, the resolution to 2960x1440 pixels (521 ppi), the main camera became double (2x12 megapixels), and the RAM became 6 GB. The smartphone used Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835 processors, depending on the market, and retained all the previous advantages (memory card slot, water protection, “limitless” screen and wireless charging). The fingerprint scanner has moved with the home screen button to the back of the body, which has increased the useful area of the front part by narrowing the lower edge of the frame. The stylus has been improved again - the number of pressure levels has increased to 4096. Perhaps the only disappointment is the battery: 3300 mAh is frankly not enough for such a monster.
When developing the Galaxy Note 8, the company planned to use a fingerprint scanner built into the screen for the first time, but difficulties arose with this - the engineers were unable to achieve absolute transparency and constant color of the screen in the place where the scanner is located, so it was decided to abandon the innovation.
Galaxy Note 9
This model received a 4000 mAh battery, which was a record for the entire Galaxy Note line for 2022. It would be strange to expect Samsung to slow down: the smartphone uses an “unlimited” 6.4-inch diagonal curved screen, a metal body with a glass coating, a dual camera with 12-megapixel modules, an 8-megapixel front camera, a top-end chipset at that time Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 and 6 GB of RAM. This time the company again failed to hide the fingerprint scanner in the screen; it is located behind, but not to the right of the camera, but below.
Galaxy Note 6 Specifications
Despite the fact that Samsung has not yet disclosed any official details about the Note 6, there is plenty of insider information on the network about the technical characteristics of the new product. According to the latest rumors, the smartphone will have:
- 5.77-inch 2K (QHD) display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor
- Adreno 530 GPU
- 6 GB RAM
- 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and even 256GB of internal memory for data storage
- 4,200mAh battery
- 20 megapixel camera
- Waterproof and dustproof (IP68 rating)
Specifications information varies from different sources. Some “experts” claim that the new flagship will have 8GB of RAM. It sounds incredible, but just recently 2GB seemed like something special. In addition, it is reported that in addition to the Snapdragon 823 chip, the Galaxy Note 6 could equally well receive Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820.
As for the camera, other than the resolution of the matrix, there is no information about it yet. But, taking into account the fact that the Galaxy Note 5 amazed everyone with the quality of photographs and image processing capabilities, we can safely say that the camera in the new model of the line will be excellent.
Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+
In 2022, for the first time, the Galaxy Note line was replenished with not one model, but three different ones at once: Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 10+ and Galaxy Note 10+ 5G.
They use a Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9825 processor, a triple camera and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The difference is in dimensions, screen size, memory capacity and battery capacity. Galaxy Note 10 has a 6.3-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution, an Exynos 9825 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB storage and a 3500 mAh battery with support for 25-watt charging. The Galaxy Note 10+ has a 6.8-inch screen with Quad HD+ resolution, the same processor, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB storage and a 4300 mAh battery with support for 45-watt charging.
The Galaxy Note 10+ also has a ToF sensor that improves the quality of portrait photography, and the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G model supports fifth-generation communications networks and is sold only in the United States. Another important feature of these models is the lack of a 3.5 mm audio output. This is very unusual for Samsung.
As you can see, the Galaxy Note line has had its ups and downs.
There were very successful models, devices with dubious improvements, and outright failed devices. Not only the hardware component has evolved, but also the software: these smartphones use Android shells with many proprietary applications and features created specifically for them. Galaxy Note has a lot of loyal fans, and all because this series is special, it has no analogues from other manufacturers. iGuides in Telegram - t.me/igmedia iGuides in Yandex.Zen - zen.yandex.ru/iguides.ru
