How to find out photo metadata on iPhone and iPad?

Greetings! Have you noticed that on the iPhone (on the iPad, too, by the way) it is impossible to view any data about photos using standard means? To be honest, I never gave it much importance. Well, you can’t and you can’t - just think, what a disaster! However, all my “don’t care” worked only up to a certain point...

Just the other day this very moment came - I needed to look up the date of creation of one photo. And here a small problem arose. The main question was: how to do this? After all, the so-called “file properties” on an iPhone, due to the characteristics of the operating system, cannot be viewed. Panic! Guard! Why have you gone completely crazy there in Cupertino?!

However, there is no need to worry too much - there is a way out of this situation. Which? Let's find out!

How do I view metadata?

iOS 13 offers the ability to find out basic metadata without installing third-party software. To do this, you need to save the required image in “Files”. You need to open the file and click on “Share”, then on “Save to files” and select a save location.

Now the user must go to “Files” and select the required snapshot. After clicking on the photo, you need to select “Details”. In the window that opens, select “Show more”, and then all available metadata will be provided.

Attention! This way you can only view them, but you cannot edit or delete them.

Change or add other metadata

You can change not only the location, date, and time data in a photo, but also some other metadata elements.

1. At the bottom of the Exif Metadata window, click the Edit Exif .

2. Click on any metadata section to make changes.

3. After finishing editing, click the Save in the upper right corner.

If for some reason you need to change the metadata for a photo, the Exif Metadata app is a great option. The program's interface is simple and intuitive, the change options are quite flexible, and it itself is free.

How to Reduce Photo Size on iPhone Using Third-Party Apps

iPhones have a built-in photo editor - you can use it, for example, to crop a photo and apply a filter to it, however, you will not be able to change the resolution of any photo. Therefore, users have to resort to using additional utilities. One of the most popular programs that allows you to reduce the size of a photo is Resizer . You can download the free version of this utility here.

The main advantage of Resizer is its simplicity. The developers did not think about how to create another multi-editor, and equipped the application with only the most basic functions. How to change photo resolution on iPhone using Resizer ?

Step 1 . Open the application and you will see the simplest interface possible.

Step 2 . Click on the plus button and go to the “Camera Roll” section.

Step 3: Next, select the photo you want to convert.

Step 4 . On the next screen you will see tools for working with images. You will need the Resize tool.

Step 5 . Set the required photo resolution. Width and height maintain proportion, so it is enough to change just one of these parameters - the second will be adjusted automatically.

Below you will find ready-made templates for common permissions - you can use them.

Once you have set the resolution, click OK.

Step 6 . Click on the “Done” button - this will complete your work on the image.

Step 7 . Next, you need to save the corrected image to the iPhone’s memory. Click on the down arrow button.

Step 8 . Click on “Save Image”.

The following message will notify you that the work has been completed:

Now you can use the Photo Investigator to verify that the photo has indeed changed its parameters.

In addition to Resizer, there are other utilities in the AppStore that can reduce photos:

  • iResize.
  • Reduce.
  • Resize!

However, each of these programs is paid - only Resizer has a free version.

Special programs showing the date and other data about photographs

There are actually a large number of them, just go to the App Store, then the search tab and enter the word exif. This is a standard that adds various additional information to media files and images that characterizes that file. If anyone is interested, read in more detail on Wikipedia (here is the link). We will return to applications, the search returns 241 results and almost everyone can help us.

Note! Naturally, to install any of them, you will need to register an Apple ID. Is this your first time hearing about this term? I advise you to read this article.

In my case, I installed the very first application from the search and the result I needed was achieved.

I was able to look up the date of the photo, its size, and resolution on my iPhone. In general, they showed me absolutely all the information, even some that was completely unnecessary.

In the end I would like to ask a question, or rather even two.

Changing the frame width on iOS

Resize Photo shows the original width of the frame, allowing you to understand how much the command will resize it. Also, Resize Photo only asks for width, but doesn't ask for height. This way she manages to maintain the proportions of the frame without disturbing them. However, if such a need arises, you can always add the appropriate script to the command by looking at how the developer did it.
