How to enable JavaScript
For web pages to function fully and optimally in your browser, javascript must be enabled.
We will tell you what it is and how to enable it in this article.

Installing Java
For a browser to support Java, you must first install it on your computer. To do this, follow the link below and download the Java installer from the official website of the developers.
In the link that opens, click on the red “Download Java for free” button.
Installing the program is as simple as possible and boils down to the fact that you need to select an installation location and wait a little while for the software to be installed.
If you have already installed Java, check if the corresponding plugin is enabled in your browser. To do this, enter browser://plugins/ into the address bar of your browser and press Enter. In the list of plugins, look for Java(TM) and click on the “Enable” button. Please note that such an item may not exist in the browser.
After you have enabled Java or JavaScript, restart your browser and check how the desired page works with the modules enabled. We do not recommend disabling them manually, as many sites will not display correctly.

What is javascript?
What is JavaScript
JavaScript can be called a multi-paradigm language. It has support for many programming methods. For example, object-oriented, functional and imperative.
This type of programming is not directly related to java. The main syntax of this programming language is the C language, as well as C++.
The basis of browser web pages is HTML code (we have an excellent selection of courses for learning HTML and CSS), with which programmers add various interactive elements to pages.
If javascript is disabled in the browser, interactive elements will not work.
This type of programming language appeared thanks to the joint work of Sun Microsystems and Netscape.
Initially, JavaScript was called LiveScript, but after the Java language became popular among programmers, development companies decided to rename it.
Netscape's marketing department believed that such a name would increase the popularity of the new programming language, which, in fact, happened.
Let us remind you that JavaScript is not directly related to Java (we advise you to learn JavaScript and earn from 80,000 rubles). These are completely different languages.
Enable Javascript for whitelisted sites
To simplify the work of the Internet browser, save traffic or any other reasons, the user can give permission to use Java technology only on part of the web pages. You can also set a ban on suspicious sites.
To do this you will need:
- go to the Java script settings group and run “Exception Management” (in the old version) or “Site Settings” (in the new);
- In the field you should enter or copy the email address of the pages, the logic will tell you how to open or block access by selecting “Allow” or “Block”. In the new version, you should switch between the Allowed and Denied tabs and add them to the desired favorite web pages.
Most users do not use the ability to create exclusion lists. But you need to understand that the blocking measure will allow you to get rid of, for example, annoying pop-up windows.
JavaScript Features
This programming language has an unlimited number of possibilities due to its versatility.
The main aspects of application are mobile applications for smartphones, interactive web pages of sites and services.
Most of the innovation was brought about by the AJAX company joining the project, which provided the features used in the language today.
To save traffic and increase ease of use, JavaScript provides the ability to change pages of sites and services in small parts, unnoticed by the user online.
This does not require turning off the site while editing or adding new information.
Changes happen immediately, without requiring a page refresh or reload.
The JavaScript feature may be disabled for various reasons.
It is possible that the previous user may have intentionally disabled it since it was not required for web browsing. The shutdown could also happen on its own.
Disabling javascript may prevent some links from opening. Below we will look at ways to enable this function in popular browsers.
Why is it needed in Google Chrome?
By default, when downloading the Google Chrome browser, JavaScript is activated, that is, the status is “Enabled” in the settings. But for various reasons, for example, due to a system failure, forced closing of the browser, or virus activity, JavaScript may be disabled. What functions are assigned to JavaScript:
- creating pop-up windows;
- displaying a drop-down menu;
- adjustment of each individual site to the layout and screen sizes in the browser;
- setting screen resolution;
- display and download of images, animations, graphic elements;
- processing data in HTML format without using an Internet connection;
- carrying out mathematical calculations;
- reducing the load on the server when processing intensive data.
JavaScript helps make websites load faster. The pages themselves become attractive, arouse user interest, and make them interactive.
And this is not a complete list of elements for which the Java script is responsible. We have listed only the main ones. If you have JavaScript disabled or not working in Google Chrome, then you will automatically lose all of the above options, which means your browsing in the browser will be limited. Therefore, be sure to activate Java and do not deprive yourself of useful options when surfing the Internet.

How to configure JS in Yandex browser?
In the Yandex browser there is a place where we can view and change JavaScript settings, namely, indicate to the browser whether JS should run on a specific site. There are 2 ways to personalize:
- Create your own “black list”. It is assumed that JS is enabled on all resources, with the exception of sites included in the list;
- Create a “white list”. If JavaScript is disabled in the browser, we can run it for individual sites that cannot do without a dynamic language.
How to set up lists:
There is an even easier way to add or remove a site from the lists; you do not need to specifically go to settings and copy site URLs. We can find JavaScript in the Yandex browser directly in the search bar, while on any website.
An easy way to manage exceptions:
Google Chrome
Just like in all browsers, to activate JavaScript you need to go to settings.
In Google Chrome, you can open settings by clicking on the function button in the upper right corner of the window.
It is indicated by three horizontal stripes.
In the context menu, select “Settings” .
Google Chrome Settings
After that, using the scroller (mouse wheel), go to the very end of the page and select the item “Show additional settings” .
Google Chrome Advanced Settings
When you expand additional settings, the number of available items will increase significantly. Scroll down the page and find the item “Personal data” , in which we select the button “Content settings” .
Activating javascript in Google Chrome
In the “Javascript” , to activate or deactivate the function, select the appropriate item, and then click the “Finish” button.
Saved changes take effect immediately.
There is no need to restart the browser, you just need to refresh the page by pressing the F5 key or the corresponding icon on the left in the address bar.

After activating the JavaScript function, you will be able to view previously inaccessible web pages, as well as perform various actions on interactive services.
Enabling javascript in the Yandex web browser
The guide below will explain how to enable (or disable) javascript in the Yandex browser yourself. This can be done in several ways.
Method 1. Enabling the module on a desktop Windows computer
The Java module may turn off on its own if the web browser is unstable or due to the impact of virus programs. To enable Java Script support, you need to do the following:
- Launch the Yandex Internet browser.
- Open the drop-down menu by clicking the icon of three parallel lines in the window title. In the list that appears, select “Settings”.
- A form with basic browser options will be displayed on the screen; you need to scroll down and click the “Show additional settings” button.
- Next, look for the “Personal Data” parameter block, and click the “Content Settings” button in it.
- A window will open with a list of parameters. Here you need to find the Javascript inscription and opposite it select the “Allow all sites” option (the second option disables Java Script). In the same window, by clicking “Manage exceptions”, you can activate Java only for certain resources.
- Complete the setup by clicking the “Finish” button and restart Yandex Browser.
Also sometimes it becomes necessary to enable a Java plugin. To do this you need:
- Open Yandex browser.
- In the address bar of your browser, enter: browser://plugins/. Press Enter.
- A window will open containing a list of connected plugins. If the Java plugin says “Disable”, it means it is enabled and functioning normally, otherwise, to enable it you need to select “Enable”. Don't forget to check the box next to "Always allow".
- Restart Yandex.
Method 2: Enable the module on your Android device
To enable Java Script on your Android device, you must perform the following steps:
- Open the mobile version of Yandex Browser.
- Click on the three dot icon to open the options menu.
- Enter the “Advanced” section and find the Java Script item.
- Activate the checkbox next to “Enable”.
Conclusion
Many modern resources cannot do without the use of Java Script. Of course, there is a possibility of virus infection, but the benefits of the module outweigh the hypothetical risk.
How to enable JavaScript

You do not need to restart the browser for the changes to take effect. After activation, you will be able to fully view web pages and perform actions on interactive services.
What is the difference
Let's start with a simple explanation of the difference between the two technologies given above. Java is a technology created to develop applications that can run offline or through browsers.
Regarding JavaScript, everything is similar, with the exception of autonomous operation. This technology is aimed at working only with browsers. The script is initially placed in HTML files, where it ensures stable operation and exchange of data between web pages and the browser.
To supplement the information received, we will give an example of the main differences between these languages.
- Unlike Java, JavaScript comes in text format, which is much easier than additional compilation.
- The reliable operation of each technology lies in connecting different modules.
- The operating algorithms of the languages are completely different and have practically nothing in common.
Opera
The situation with the Opera browser is almost the same as with Mozilla Firefox.
The only difference is that the function is not automatically activated in either version.
Activation of JavaScript occurs differently in different versions.
In order to enable the function, you first need to find out the version of your browser using the link:
Versions from 10.5 to 14
First of all, we need to open the browser settings.
In the upper left corner, click the “Menu” , in the context menu, move the cursor to the “Settings” and click on the “General settings...” .
Settings in Opera versions from 10.5 to 14
After this, a new window with browser settings will open.
In it you need to select the “Advanced” .
In the left menu of the tab, click on the item “Content” , after which we activate the function by checking two checkboxes on the items “Enable JavaScript” and “Enable Java” .
To deactivate, these checkboxes must be unchecked.
Activation and deactivation of javascript in Opera versions from 10.5 to 14
After you have checked or unchecked the boxes, save the changes by clicking the “OK” button.
Now we restart the browser for the changes to take effect. All javascript functions will be available to you.
Versions from 15 and higher
In these versions of the Opera browser, activation of JavaScript is much simpler.
In order to open the settings window, you need to press the Alt+P hotkey combination in an open browser. In the menu that opens, open the “Sites” .
To activate the function, you need to set the checkbox to “Allow JavaScript execution” , to deactivate it – “Prohibit JavaScript execution” .
Activating and deactivating javascript in Opera version 15 and higher
After this, just click the “OK” button to save the changes and refresh the page you are viewing with the F5 key or by clicking the corresponding icon on the left of the address bar.
There is no need to restart the browser.
How to enable Javascript in your browser
Why doesn't the plugin load in Yandex browser?
For this purpose, you will need to make small but significant changes to the Group Policy Editor (GPO). Unfortunately, in earlier versions of Windows, as well as in the Home edition, there is no RGP; therefore, activation can only be performed in the latest builds of Windows 10.
Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Javascript is activated like this
:
- First we need to open the list of Firefox parameters, to do this, enter about:config; in the address bar;
- We accept the risk;
- In the list that opens we find the javascript.enabled parameter;
- We move the cursor and left mouse button, thereby changing the value from fasle to true.
Opera
That's all. I hope the information was useful to you. Share it with your friends. Thank you!
PS: The actions described above were and still remain relevant at the time of writing this post. Perhaps in the future, when updating web browsers, they may be changed in some way. If this happened, please leave a comment. Thank you!
Safari
To enable the JavaScript function in Apple's proprietary browser, Safari, you need to go to settings.
To open them, you need to click the “Safari” and select “Settings ”.
Open Settings in Safari
In the window that opens, go to the “ Security” , where in the “Web Content” “Enable JavaScript” box .
Accordingly, to deactivate JavaScript, this checkbox must be unchecked.
After this, save the changes by clicking the “OK” button and refresh the open page in the browser.
There is no need to restart the browser; the changes take effect immediately after saving.
How to turn it on
So, if you are missing the functions that JavaScript is responsible for, you need to enable it. This can be done using normal browser settings. Even an inexperienced user can cope with such a task.
For all sites
The convenience of using Google Chrome is not only its fast operation, but also the ability to customize it individually. You can enable script support both for all sites and for specific ones. To avoid any restrictions, enable Javascript for all web resources:
- Launch Chrome.
- Click on the three vertical dots at the top right.
- In the drop-down menu, select “Settings”.
- Go to the settings page, go to the very bottom and click “Advanced”.
- In the “Privacy and Security” section, select “Site Settings”.
- In the list of options, go to “JavaScript”, and in the window that opens you need to activate the slider to the “Enabled” state, drag it to the right opposite the item “Allowed (recommended)”.
- The changes will take effect immediately; all you have to do is restart your browser.
To quickly go to the menu with JavaScript settings, you can use the following address - chrome://settings/content/javascript. Paste it into the address bar and press Enter.
For individual resources
Google Chrome also has the ability to set individual settings for a specific site. This also applies to the Java script. This option can be useful if you have disabled JavaScript for all sites, for example, for the purpose of parental controls to limit content on the Internet for children, and when you go to the browser yourself, you locally activate the function for yourself:
- In the Chrome browser, click on the menu button (three dots in the upper right corner).
- Go to settings.
- On the settings page, you need to open the “Privacy and Security” section through the “Advanced” button.
- In this section there is a “Site Settings” item, go to it.
- Search for “JavaScript”, go, and if the slider next to the “Allowed” line is inactive, that is, the function is blocked for all sites, then at the bottom there is a “Allow” column.
- Click “Add” and enter the URL of the site or several sites for which you want to remove the restriction.
There is another, faster and easier way to activate JavaScript support for a specific site. Open the site you need, you will see a padlock icon to the right of the address bar. Click on it and select “Site settings” in the list of functions. The browser takes you to the settings page, and all you have to do is click “Activate JavaScript” in the “Permissions” section.
Microsoft Edge
You can activate javascript not only in the browser, but also in the operating system itself. “Run” functional window using the Win+R hotkey combination.
In the appropriate line you need to enter the command “gpedit.msc” (without quotes) and press the Enter button.
Entering a command in the Run window.
Next, in the left menu list, select the “Computer Configuration” and open it by double-clicking LMB.
Computer system command group policy editor
After that, on the right side of the screen, go to the following folders: Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Microsoft Edge .
In the last folder, open the file “Allows you to run scripts, such as JavaScript” .
In the window that opens, select “Enable” or “Disable” to activate or deactivate the function, respectively.
Activating and deactivating javascript on a computer system
After you have activated/deactivated the JavaScript function, save the changes by clicking the “Apply” button.
How to download and install
How to enable ace stream web extension for Yandex browser?
First, we will look at how to enable JavaScript in various browsers, and then we will offer detailed step-by-step instructions that will tell you how to download this programming language for free for your computer or laptop.
Enabling JavaScript in the Browser
So, getting down to business, let's figure out how to activate JavaScript in Chrome, Yandex Browser, Mozilla Firefox or Opera.
Google Chrome
We will start with this browser. Along with the Yandex browser, it occupies the first position in the popularity list. So, in order to activate JavaScript, follow the following step-by-step instructions:
- In the upper right corner of the window, click on the button with the image of three vertical dots. In the list that appears, select the settings item.
- When the browser settings start, on the left side of the window, click on the item called “Privacy and Security”.
- Next, select the item indicated in the screenshot with a red frame. You may have to scroll a little through the list of browser options to find it.
- In the list that appears, select JavaScript. Right here you can see that this library is active in the browser. Accordingly, if you have it disabled, instead of “Allowed” you will see the word “Prohibited”.
- Here, using the switch that you see in the picture below, you can globally enable or disable running JavaScript in Google Chrome. It is also possible to separately create a rule for any sites. For example, if we want JavaScript to be prohibited on a certain resource, we simply add its URL to the “Block” list. Or, conversely, if you need to prohibit JavaScript everywhere, but allow it on one or more sites, write their addresses in the “Allow” section.
Yandex browser
Now let's figure out how to do the same in Yandex.Browser. You should do this:
- As in the previous option, we go to the browser settings by clicking on the icon indicated by the number “1”. A drop-down menu will immediately appear in which we should click on the settings item.
- At the next stage, using the left side column, go to the “Sites” section. Scroll the content that appears a little lower and select the item for advanced site settings.
- Next, using a trigger called JavaScript, we either enable or disable the use of this software library. Like Google Chrome, there is additional functionality that will become active after clicking on the site settings link.
Mozilla Firefox
Let's consider another very popular browser, which is used by almost 30% of the entire world population. You need to work with this browser like this:
- First, we open the browser settings by writing “about:config” in its address bar and pressing “Enter”.
- Next, we will be warned that all the settings that we are trying to access are hidden and, if handled improperly, can disrupt the normal operation of the browser. We confirm our intention by clicking on the button indicated in the screenshot.
- At the next stage, using the search, we enter the command marked with the number “1”, and then double-left click on the inscription “True”, marked with a two.
- As a result, JavaScript in Mozilla Firefox will be disabled and you will see the message “False”. Accordingly, in order to enable the software library, you must, again, double-left click on it.
Opera
The last browser we will talk about today also provides the ability to disable JavaScript. Let's see how this is done:
- First, we click on the button indicated in the screenshot below with a red frame. As a result, a list will open in which you will need to select a settings item.
- Next, go to the “Advanced” section and find the item indicated in the picture below. Here we see a switch that is in the active position, thereby allowing the use of JavaScript on all sites. If you switch it to the “Disabled” position, this programming language will stop playing on all or selected pages.
And now that we have figured out how to enable and disable JavaScript in all popular browsers, let's move on to instructions on how to download it for free for Windows and start using it.
Two different languages for browsers
Java is a technology for developing standalone applications that can run in both virtual machines and browsers.
JavaScript was created only to improve the functionality of browsers, so the concept of JavaScript is narrower than Java. It is placed in HTML files. This way, websites and the browser interact much more efficiently.
How else do these two languages differ?
- Java code still needs to be able to compile, but JavaScript code is used in a convenient text format.
- They require different plug-ins.
- They have different tuning algorithms.
