Modern wireless headphones have many advantages: they are comfortable, lightweight, reliable and provide sufficient sound quality. But at the same time, like any other technology, Xiaomi AirDots are not without their main drawback - the battery.
The battery is the weak point of any wireless devices, including AirDots. Even if you follow all the recommendations for caring for the battery, pretty soon it will begin to lose capacity, which in a year or two will lead to the fact that the headphones will start working in offline mode for much less time.
Loss of capacity with each charging cycle is normal for lithium-ion batteries, this is how the technology works, they are trying to solve this drawback in scientific laboratories with varying degrees of success, but they have not yet been able to completely overcome it.
And so, one day we insert Xiaomi AirDots into the charging case and see that either both, or, which is more common, one of the headphones does not signal the start of charging, which means that it does not charge and it will be impossible to use it in the future. Why does this happen and is it possible to fix it? Read on.
Broken contact inside the cable
When using wired headphones paired with a Xiaomi phone, the most stressful and breaking point is the wire coming out of the jack.
In this place, the cable constantly bends and therefore, faster than anything else, the contact inside is broken due to broken contacts and therefore the sound disappears. If you lose sound in one of the headphones when connected to Xiaomi, or hissing or crackling appears, this is the first sign of a broken contact inside the cable. And it is extremely likely that this happened on the bend near the jack.
A similar breakdown will occur after a strong jerk, if you caught the wire on something and did not notice it. Inside the case, the cable is specially secured so that a jerk does not lead to disruption of the soldering of the contacts to the driver, so breakage inside the headphones is unlikely.
Solution : replace the headphones, or resolder the cable.

Firmware error
If the problem occurs after updating Xiaomi, it may be caused by a software bug. To fix it:
- reset the settings (with a preliminary backup if you want to save the data);
- try updating to a newer version (usually MIUI updates with bug fixes come out very quickly).
It is not recommended to use custom firmware to solve the problem, since it will be impossible to update from it to the official version.
One of the headphones does not work when connected to a Xiaomi smartphone
If the sound comes from only one headphone, first of all check whether they will fully function when connected to any other sound source, it could be a computer, phone, TV, player or something else.
If there is no sound when connecting to another source, it means that the breakdown has occurred internally.
Causes may include water ingress if they are not protected from sweat and splashes, severe physical impact, or extreme high or low temperatures.
Xiaomi leaves the circle of suspects if the headphones continue to work poorly when connected to another source.
Solution : replacement of headphones, or repair at a service center.

System failure
There is a common bug on Xiaomi smartphones where the OS sees the headphones for only 3-5 seconds, after which they disappear from the notification panel. To solve the problem:
- do not insert the plug completely into the connector;
- When the headset icon lights up, disconnect the headphones;
- after 5-15 seconds, insert the plug again, but this time completely.
There are no official statements from developers regarding the described error, but for many users this method helped resolve the problem.
No access to sound effects in Xiaomi settings
Xiaomi phones have a special section with sound settings, which are unlocked when connecting wired headsets. If the wire is not connected to the smartphone socket, this section is blocked.
Sound effects are not available when connected wirelessly.
If you connected a headset via wire, the phone detected it and showed the corresponding icon in the status bar, but access to sound effects remained blocked, try restarting the phone.
If possible, test on other headphones to eliminate the possibility of incompatibility. If the reboot does not help, disconnect the cable, carefully blow out the phone socket; probably, dust or a grain of sand has gotten inside, which is interfering with normal contact.
Do not pour alcohol or other liquids inside . If the dirt is heavy, take a dry cotton swab and use a gentle rotating motion to clean the socket.
If after cleaning you still cannot access the sound settings on your Xiaomi, there is a possibility of a serious software glitch. Provided that the headphones are working properly, the sound goes to both channels without interruption and without distortion, and if you have a remote control, all buttons function properly.
Back up your data and reset your phone to factory settings.
If after resetting access to sound effects is impossible , you will have to take the phone to a repair shop for diagnostics.

The phone sees the headphones only for the first 3-5 seconds
If, after connecting the headset, the smartphone displays the corresponding sign only for the first few seconds, and then the connection is lost, then you can try to do otherwise, as one of the advanced users suggests:
- Do not insert the plug all the way;
- The headset connection indicator will light up;
- After waiting up to 10 seconds, insert the device completely.
Despite the strangeness of the method, these steps are practical for almost all users who cannot connect headphones correctly.
Wireless headphones do not work with a Xiaomi smartphone
Before connecting wireless headphones to Xiaomi, you need to make sure that they support the following profiles:
- A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) - with its help, the phone transmits stereo sound to the receiving device.
- HSP (Handset Profile) – with its help, the ability to talk on the phone is realized.
There are many other profiles for wireless headsets, but these two are the primary and most important ones; it is with their help that you can talk on the phone and listen to music.
Find out about profile support from the instructions for the headphones or on the packaging.
A prerequisite for the first connection is to carry out the pairing procedure.
Pairing is carried out according to the following algorithm:
- Turn them off, then press the power button and hold it for 8 seconds or until the LED starts flashing different colors
- Go to the Bluetooth settings, find the item “Available devices” , in which the model of the connected headset will appear. Click on it, after which the name will go to the “Paired devices” .
- The status will be indicated next to the name when active work is “Connected” . In this case, the corresponding icon will appear in the status bar.
Find out more about this on the website: headphone-review.ru
If everything went smoothly, your wireless headphones should work and play sound. If this does not happen, make sure that the Xiaomi volume control is set to the middle position or higher.
If all else fails : try connecting another headset to prevent damage to the Xiaomi wireless module. If another headset also turns out to be inoperative, take your smartphone for repair; a Bluetooth error has crept in somewhere.

How does a Li-Ion battery work?
The batteries used in modern smartphones have many advantages over their predecessors, although they have their own characteristics. Among the advantages are their high performance, low weight, a fairly long period of use and the absence of a “memory effect” (there are exceptions, but rarely anyone encounters them).
However, after prolonged use, the battery sometimes starts to drain faster than we want it to. As a rule, if the device is used for several years, this is the wear and tear of the battery. In this case, it is better to replace it. Also, it is worth replacing the battery if it stops working, but you know for sure that the problem is there. For example, you charged it several times a day, overheated it, or it became swollen.
The charging case is a real godsend for headphones and not only for AirPods.
There is another reason why the battery may begin to lose ground. Even Apple itself says on its website that the battery needs to be calibrated periodically. True, such information is only available for laptops, but this also applies to batteries of other equipment. The relevant information is easy to find, including on thematic portals and forums.
Software problems
This often happens when the user decides to flash the phone on their own. After this, various failures, bugs and deletion of system files that are responsible for the operation of Bluetooth . This can be fixed by resetting to factory settings.
You should also check your audio settings. To do this, find the “ Headphones and sound effects ” function in the settings and select your headset type. It is also possible to set individual settings here.
What to do if Xiaomi does not work:
Hardware causes of headset problems
Continuing the topic of troubleshooting with the hardware itself, it is worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the basic requirements for the correct operation of mating devices. Here we need to understand the golden mean. The Russian inquisitive nature leads to the fact that a small problem sometimes grows to exorbitant proportions. We don’t immediately run to the workshop, like Europeans or Americans, and try to fix everything we can on our own. Sometimes without the necessary knowledge and tools. To avoid the excruciating pain of wasted hours spent in vain attempts to restore life to the device, we will conduct a small educational program by digging through its insides with a can opener. Don’t grin, for example, I recently received a Xiaomi phone for repair, which stopped turning on after it fell into water. It was so damaged when trying to open the back cover that the case had to be replaced.
- The first reason, which is also the most common, is that a foreign object, dust, hair, etc. got into the connector. Based on the design of the aux, we have a break contact when the plug is inserted. If it does not return to its original state after disconnecting the headphones and the icon in the status bar continues to hang, then this means one thing - something inside is interfering with normal operation. Take a thin object, a needle, a cotton swab or tweezers and clean the connector socket. The procedure involves removing foreign objects and wiping the aux pads with a piece of cloth soaked in alcohol. First disconnect the battery. I came across hilarious advice like: it is strictly forbidden to pour alcohol into a device with a non-removable battery. Otherwise what? Will it light up? Any of these devices has a power connector, you just need to get to it. For your own peace of mind.
- Oxidation of contacts if rarely used. Cleaning helps. Some Chinese sellers, as a gift, send a certain trinket along with the order. Taking a closer look at it, I realized that it was a simple plug for a headphone plug. On top of the simulator is a red pebble. For those who rarely use headphones, I advise you to plug the jack once and for all. Aesthetically beautiful and does not violate anything.
- Damage to the connector. The situation is more complicated and involves breakage of the contacts, cable, and attachment to the board. To be replaced. If you are familiar with a soldering iron (in this case you will need a soldering station with a set of the finest tips) - welcome to the wonderful world of electronics. But it’s better to trust a specialist. In general, I don’t recommend taking something apart and trying to restore it. Definitely a replacement, tell the technician so. Simply diagnosing the backlash in this case will be noticeable;
- Closure. It doesn’t matter on its own, we try the methods described above, press harder with a thin object into the connector. Just don't overdo it.
- Plug not plugged in. Apply force and press harder. People who are cautious and “sorry” about a new phone fall for this nuisance.
- Broken wire inside audio plug. Cut and resolder.
- Incompatible pinout. It means that mom and dad are not friends. The assignments of the aux pins and the audio plug are not the same. OMTP and CTIA are two types of wiring, the first is now outdated, in it the ground pad occupies the second position, the first is the microphone. Next are the right and left channels. In the new type, the ground and microphone have swapped places. This means only one thing - headphones with the old type of plug will not work on the new phone.
That's all, the reasons have exhausted themselves.
Mechanical damage
It would be a good idea to check the headset for flaws.
Basically these are the following defects:
- Damage to the wire inside the plug . The wiring is soldered or new ones are purchased.
- The connector is damaged . Here it is advisable to replace it.
- Oxidation of contacts . At this time, the contacts are cleaned.
If the above methods do not produce results, the reason probably lies in the gadget itself.
