Xiaomi does not see the computer via USB: why and what to do?

Quite often, most users need to transfer important information from their phone to a personal computer or vice versa. The procedure is simple at first glance, but many people still have questions about how to connect a Xiaomi smartphone to a computer without the slightest problem and what is needed for this. We will look at several ways:

  • Connection via standard USB cable.
  • Connection via Wi-Fi.
  • And connection via Bluetooth connection.

Let us immediately note that the simplest are options 1 and 2.

Installing drivers

On modern PCs, drivers are installed and updated automatically. Installation of the necessary components is carried out during the first connection of the smartphone to the computer. However, there are exceptions.

If the drivers are not installed automatically, you need to download them. Open Device Manager, and then find the name of your mobile phone in the list. Right-click on it and select the “Update Drivers” command from the context menu.

Cable replacement

If you are sure that all drivers are installed on your computer and you can use various USB devices without problems, but when you connect Xiaomi to it, it does not see the phone, there is probably damage to the wire.

Externally it may be perfect, but inside one contact could come loose and it is no longer suitable for connection. At the same time, the smartphone battery can even be charged.

Take another wire, it is better if a smartphone has already been successfully connected through it before and check with it.

If the replacement does not give anything, we continue to troubleshoot.

Activating Debug Mode

Sometimes problems with synchronizing your smartphone and PC arise because this function is disabled by default. To enable the debug option, do the following:

  1. Go to your mobile phone settings.
  2. Go to the “About Phone” tab.
  3. Click 7-10 times on the “MIUI Version” item, as a result of which the developer mode will start, this will become clear, the message “congratulations, you are now a developer” will appear, or something like that.
    Activate developer mode
  4. Go to developer mode and enable USB Debugging.
    USB debugging

Nothing complicated.

Why doesn't the computer see the phone?

Let's start with the basics: for example, you know all the connection steps well, but the computer simply does not recognize the Android device. There may be several reasons:

  1. Lack of necessary drivers on PC;
  2. The cable is of poor quality, dirty, broken;
  3. Problems in the operating system (virus or simple glitch);
  4. The connectors on the system unit are clogged, meaning that something got into them (or they are simply not working).

The first and most basic thing is to check if crumbs, dirt, or dust have gotten into the connectors . Very often foreign bodies accumulate there, and because of this, electrical contact does not occur. Carefully clean everything with a wooden toothpick (or something similar), and then use special plugs. Now let's discuss the rest of the steps.

Changing the connection mode

In some situations, a smartphone is connected to a PC as a camera. Therefore, most of the files remain unavailable for viewing. If you encounter a similar problem, then you will be able to use your phone as a memory storage device only after changing the mode.

Switching the connection mode is done through the status bar. Pull down the notification shade, and then tap on “File Transfer.” Most often, users cannot set up synchronization precisely for this reason.

USB operating mode

Most common reason

So, you have connected your Xiaomi smartphone to the computer, it is charging, the computer even sees it, and you, in turn, see something like the following on the monitor:

However, if you open the device, the folder will be empty. Why? The fact is that the Android operating system by default denies access to the device’s file system; access must be granted from a smartphone. Why was this done? Yes, so that no one else can access the files stored on your device. Of course, this rule only works if access to the smartphone is locked with a password or, for example, using a fingerprint sensor. If this is your case, you need to allow access to the system, to do this, first of all, open the notification panel by swiping your finger from the top of the screen to the bottom.

Tap on the line “Charging via USB”.

Here, click on “File Transfer (MTP)”.

Thus, you have given the computer access to the device; when you open the device, you will see the file system.

Using Android Terminal

If none of the methods mentioned above helped you, it makes sense to try other methods. Using Play Market, install “Android Terminal”.

Activate the program, and then connect your smartphone to the PC, having first selected the appropriate synchronization mode. Activate root rights by entering the “Su” command in the application. You also need to enter “setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb”. Finally, reboot the mobile device by entering the “Reboot” command.

Many users prefer to connect via MTP. Synchronization is carried out in the same way, the only exception is the modification of the command. Instead of “mass_storage”, you need to enter “mtp”.

Xiaomi connected like a digital camera

This is the case when the computer sees the device, but only photos are available. To fix this, swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom.

Click "Transfer photos via USB".

Select “File transfer (MTP)”.

Solving the problem using the Windows Setup Wizard

If your phone connects to other PCs but does not sync with yours, it means that the cause of the problem is a software glitch in the Windows operating system. To troubleshoot problems, use the installation wizard:

  1. Go to “Control Panel”.
  2. Go to the Hardware and Sound category.
  3. Open the "Devices and Printers" subsection.
  4. In the “Multimedia Devices” tab, find the name of your smartphone, and then right-click on it. Select the Troubleshoot command.

    Troubleshooting

  5. The wizard will diagnose the connection and identify any problems that have arisen.

It is possible that your mobile device will be identified as an unidentified gadget. Therefore, the phone is displayed in a completely different section. The installation wizard will solve this problem.

Connecting a Xiaomi smartphone to a computer via USB

As mentioned above, there may be several reasons for problems, so I will try to explain to you in as much detail as possible what to do and how to do it. You need to follow our points consistently to avoid problems in the future.

Installing drivers on PC

As noted above, in many cases, problems arise from drivers. Sometimes, when connected, they install themselves and update at the right time, but if this does not happen, we carry out the procedure ourselves .

Drivers for devices based on Snapdragon processor:

QDLoader HS-USB Driver_64bit_Setup.exe

QDLoader HS-USB Driver_32bit_Setup.exe

Drivers for devices based on MediaTek processor:

Driver_android_MTK.exe

  1. Download the necessary drivers from the link above for your system.
  2. Run the installation file. We are waiting for the download to finish.
  3. Afterwards we reboot the PC.

If your computer is on Windows 8/10, then when you first synchronize Xiaomi with your PC, all the necessary drivers will be automatically downloaded from the Internet.

Enable USB Debugging

This is also a good method, which often helps if the computer does not recognize the phone. But first you need to get developer rights:

  1. Go to “Settings” – “About device”. Next “Current version of MIUI”.
  2. Click MIUI versions about 7 times. When the notification “ You have become a developer ” appears, we stop. Ready.
  3. We return to the initial “ Settings ”, scroll down and find “ Advanced settings ”.
  4. We are looking for the “ For Developers ” item. Check the box next to “ USB Debugging ”.
  5. Ready. USB debugging has been successfully enabled.

If the “For Developers” option still doesn’t appear, you should perform a factory reset. Before doing this, do not forget to save all important information on additional media, that is, make a backup of the data.

Switching camera mode

With a normal connection, the computer activates charging or camera mode . That is, you can transfer photos, pictures, screenshots, but copying documents, music, and files is not available.

As soon as the connection occurs, in the first seconds we receive a corresponding notification in the notification shade. Click on it, a small window appears asking you to select:

  • Charging only;
  • File transfer;
  • Photo transfer.

Accordingly, we need the second option, it was previously called MTP . If you did everything correctly, the device will now be recognized as a drive.

Using Computer Settings

Sometimes it happens that the connection icon simply does not appear in notifications and cannot be found even on the main “My Computer” screen. The problem here is with the PC itself. Find the “Start” menu, look for “ Device and Printers ”. The phone model should appear, right-click on the label and the standard settings menu will open. Now “Troubleshoot” and “Update driver”, you should resort to the item with installing drivers.

Results

Basically, problems with connecting Xiaomi to a computer are not that big and can be easily fixed. If none of the above methods work, and the Xiaomi smartphone does not see the computer, there are two options left:

  • reset all settings to factory settings. When using this function, it is important to remember that a reset will delete all user data: contacts, mail, etc.
  • change the firmware.

In the latter case, it is important to figure out which one is best suited for a smartphone. Currently there are two most popular firmware versions:

  • Stable firmware
  • Global firmware 9.

Connecting Xiaomi Redmi 4X to a computer can significantly simplify working with the gadget and expand its functionality. Connect helps to carry out a number of manipulations, including:

  • data transfer (music, photos, documents);
  • using a smartphone as a storage device;
  • updating the firmware or installing custom assemblies;
  • debugging, obtaining Root and system changes.

Often the connection occurs without any problems, but there are times when the computer does not recognize the device. We will look at popular methods of connecting the device to a PC, and also analyze problems that may arise and options for solving them.

Checking the cable and connectors

First you need to check the connectors and the cable itself. These are often the reason why Xiaomi does not see the computer and cannot connect to it. If you are using a non-standard cable, this is most likely the problem. Nests may also be the culprit.

To check the functionality of all connectors and components, first try switching the USB connector to other sockets on the computer. If a USB modem or flash card is connected to the PC, then you need to remove them and connect your smartphone to this place.

Another reason why the PC does not recognize Xiaomi is a faulty cable or socket. It’s easy to check the smartphone socket: just insert the charging unit into the socket and connect it to the phone. If it starts to gain charge, then everything is fine.

Cable testing is much more difficult. The main problem is the use of non-original wires. Their function ends when the device is charged, and there is no possibility of data transfer. To find out whether the reason lies in the cable, you will need to replace it with an original production analogue.

Bottom line

Most often, problems with connecting any smartphone, for example, Redmi Note 3 Pro to a PC, are hidden in small things, and they are not at all difficult to solve. If the reason lies in the phone itself, then now you have several reliable methods in your arsenal to solve this issue.

And if you have a special case, and none of the methods suggested above helped, then most likely the roots of the problem lie much deeper than you think. You may have to reflash the phone, but that's a completely different story.

The most common way to connect a Xiaomi smartphone to a computer is via USB. This function is used to transfer multimedia files, copy photos, and use the gadget as a flash drive. Xiaomi does not see the computer, xiaomi does not sync with the PC. Simply put, Xiaomi does not connect to a computer or laptop.

This can happen after updating your phone or changing xiaomi settings. How to make the PC appear in Xiaomi? The answer to this question is in the article.
