It is difficult to say exactly when Apple will present new smartphones. Apparently, it will once again be held in an online format (at least, insiders insist on this). We are waiting for a new product in September.
The iPhone 13 line, if it is called that way, will become a logical continuation of the iPhone 12 series. However, this will not prevent the gadgets from acquiring a number of interesting features , which will be discussed further in the text.
In this material we have collected plausible assumptions, known facts, as well as our opinions on new products.
What will the new Apple smartphones be called in 2022?
This is what Apple smartphones from the iPhone 13 line should look like.
There is nothing wrong with the fact that the new Apple smartphones will be called iPhone 13. There is no need for superstitions. It’s a pity that not everyone agrees with this opinion. At the beginning of the summer, SellCell surveyed three thousand people and confirmed this.
◉ 74% of respondents believe that Apple smartphones in 2021 should not be named iPhone 13. Only 26% are in favor. ◉ 38% think that the best name for the new line will be iPhone 2022. ◉ 16% for iPhone 21. ◉ 13% for iPhone 12S. ◉ 7% for iPhone 14.
Every fifth of those who took part in the survey said that they are afraid of the number “13”, so they do not want to see it in their name.
SellCell voting results for iPhone name in 2022
Today, insiders call the upcoming smartphones iPhone 13. However, this does not mean that they will receive exactly this name. Before the presentation of the iPhone X, many were sure that it would be called the iPhone 8, but the “eight” became a completely different gadget.
More specific information about the name will appear closer to the presentation. Apple is unlikely to use the year in the name for marketing reasons. But it’s very possible to stop at “12S” or jump to the number “14”.
What else should you pay attention to when choosing an iPhone?
- Size – Individual iPhone models vary in design and screen size. You can find Apple smartphones on the market with display sizes ranging from 4.7 inches to 6.5 inches. The ones with Plus or Max in the name can be really big. Therefore, before purchasing, it is a good idea to check whether the smartphone you choose is large.
- Battery Life – You have to remember that battery capacity is one thing, but the final battery life of a smartphone also largely depends on appropriate system optimization and the energy efficiency of the components. The newer they are, the longer the smartphone lasts on battery power. A very good example is the iPhone 6 (with 1810 mAh battery) and iPhone 8 (with 1821 mAh battery). Looking at the specification itself, it seems that the differences are not great. However, in practice, iPhone 8 allows you to use the Internet for up to 2 hours longer. Therefore, before choosing a specific phone, it is worth looking for information about the real operating time on a single charge in specific applications.
- The amount of internal memory determines how much music, movies and, above all, applications can fit on the device. Moreover, the amount of internal storage can narrow down your search considerably because few iPhones were equipped with 512GB of internal storage. Also remember that the iPhone - unlike many Android smartphones - does not support memory cards. So it's worth considering choosing a smartphone with at least 64GB of internal memory, and it's often better to buy an older model with more storage than a new one that will quickly run out of it.
- Screen type and resolution - if your budget allows, you should look for models equipped with an OLED screen. For what? Because it is much better than normal LCD screen. It features much better contrast, deeper blacks and less blur. Screen resolution is also important. It is worth remembering that in older iPhone models it does not even reach the Full HD level, therefore, for example, in them YouTube works up to HD resolution. The same goes for newer but cheaper models (e.g. iPhone SE 2022, iPhone XR, iPhone 11). And the higher the resolution, the higher the pixel density per inch, which in turn means better sharpness of the displayed image.
Apple iPhone is very popular in the world. With more and more models available, you may be wondering which iPhone is best.
In any case, you can count on excellent workmanship, efficient components, a perfectly optimized iOS system (with a guarantee of updates for many years), which ensure a comfortable, trouble-free experience
Of course, individual models differ in many elements. Are you wondering which iPhone to choose? We highlight the most noteworthy models and suggest which iPhone is best for your needs.
The iPhone 13 lineup will be as angular as the iPhone 12
Mockups confirm that the appearance of the iPhone 13 will change uncritically
One of the main features of any iPhone is the abundance of accessories that are actively produced by third-party manufacturers. Such an intense flow is due to the narrow range of models and the solvency of owners of Apple gadgets.
To give them the opportunity to purchase a couple of cases for a new smartphone at the start of its sales, the company provides accessory manufacturers with mock-ups of upcoming gadgets. And some of them invariably end up online.
Judging by the mockups, the iPhone 13 lineup will be as angular as the iPhone 12 . Most likely, Apple will bring a similar design to absolutely all of its upcoming gadgets. She will do the same with the Apple Watch smartwatch, but that’s not about them now.
Camera modules will especially increase in the iPhone 13 Pro
The cases that Chinese manufacturers have already created for new models based on models clearly showed the difference in the sizes of the cameras of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max . In the first case, the module will be significantly larger, in the second - insignificantly.
The iPhone 13 Mini and classic iPhone 13 should also get slightly more technically interesting cameras. The site itself is unlikely to increase much in size, but the modules will change their location on it from vertical to diagonal.
Interestingly, the cases that were created based on the mock-ups are otherwise ideal for the current iPhone 12. The dimensions are identical.
A little later, Apple may release a pink version
There is also a rumor that Apple will launch a special version of the iPhone 13 in pink at the end of 2021.
The company has already done the same with the iPhone 12, the purple version of which was released separately, so this will not surprise anyone.
The most innovative tablet
Apple's presentation began with the presentation of a new generation of iPad and iPad mini tablets. It was the mini-computer that received the most changes compared to other devices. While maintaining the same dimensions of the device, Apple increased its screen from the previous 7.9 to the new 8.3 inches. The display frames have become significantly thinner, and now the computer resembles last year's iPad Air 4, and also shares a number of design elements with the iPad Pro.
iPad mini, after many years, has acquired a modern appearance and no less modern capabilities.
The new fifth-generation iPad mini does not have a miniLED panel - instead it uses the familiar Liquid Retina screen. Its peak brightness has been increased to 500 nits.
In general, the design of the iPad mini has remained almost unchanged since the premiere of its first generation in 2012. In this regard, the iPad mini 2022 can be considered truly new.
Apple has fulfilled the dream of millions of users by replacing the iPad mini's proprietary Lightning connector with a more modern and universal USB-C with support for 20-watt charging. Lightning is used only in Apple technology, while USB-C has a much wider range of uses. Plus, it's a faster interface, while Lightning is essentially a slow USB 2.0.
Also, the iPad mini does not have a Home button in its usual place, although Apple still retained Touch ID. The fingerprint sensor has been moved to the power button. Face ID is still missing. The main and front cameras of the tablet have a resolution of 12 megapixels, there is support for recording 4K video.
The tablet also has Wi-Fi 6 support and access to fifth generation cellular networks (), which are still not available in Russia. The computer works in tandem with the second generation Apple Pencil, for which it has a magnetic mount on one of the ends.
The only thing Apple didn't work on on the iPad mini was the camera.
The next-generation iPad mini is made from 100% recycled aluminum. In terms of processor performance, the tablet outperforms the previous generation by 40%, and in terms of video subsystem capabilities - by 80%.
In the USA, the tablet will cost from $499 (36.4 thousand rubles at the exchange rate as of September 14, 2022). Available colors are silver, pink, purple and dark grey. Accepting orders starts on September 14, 2021. Apple does not name the exact release date, but it is known that the tablet will go on sale next week.
Russians will pay 48 thousand rubles for an iPad mini with 64 GB, 62 thousand rubles for 256 GB.
The iPhone 13 line will include four smartphones of different sizes
Back of iPhone 13
Apparently, the iPhone 12 Mini did not live up to Apple's expectations. However, the company is unlikely to abandon the compact smartphone form factor this year. The device definitely needs to be given a second chance, so the entire line as a whole will not change.
◉ iPhone 13 Mini (5.4 inches) is a gadget for those who choose compactness and do not need a large screen for content. ◉ iPhone 13 (6.1 inches) is a new product in a traditional format, which will turn out to be the main sales driver of the entire line. ◉ iPhone 13 Pro (6.1 inches) - an upgraded version of the previous model with an emphasis on advanced photo and video shooting capabilities. ◉ iPhone 13 Pro Max (6.7 inches) - the maximum size and exactly the same functional set for real geeks.
You shouldn't expect any other formats this year.
Yes, Apple definitely won’t show an iPhone with a flexible screen in 2021.
Apple's first phone (2007)
The history of Apple smartphones began on January 9, 2007, when Steve Jobs first showed the world the iPhone, which turned the whole world upside down. Until 2007, phones were large, most of the body was occupied by a keyboard, and control was carried out using a joystick. Later, devices with a touch screen appeared, but it was impossible to control them without a stylus.
Compare all features
Steve Jobs knew that stylus controls were not very convenient; in the past, they often got lost. Therefore, he introduced the world's first smartphone with a Multi-touch screen that could be controlled using your fingers. It was this kind of management that encouraged users to buy. By the way, the letter “i” in the name of the device stood for inspiration. The screen had a diagonal of 3.5 inches, which was an excellent indicator at that time. This version of the smartphone had a 2 MP main camera, but there was no ability to shoot video, and there was also no front camera. For 2007, the first version of Apple's phone was a breakthrough.
The maximum screen refresh rate will increase to 120 Hz
Screens will change frequency from 1 Hz to 120 Hz depending on tasks
An increase in screen frequency in the line of Apple smartphones has been expected for many years. If you believe the assurances of Ming-Chi Kuo, in 2022 the company will still give birth to something similar. Of course, this will only apply to the iPhone 13 with the Pro prefix.
The technology that will be responsible for 120 Hz in the screens of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will presumably be called ProMotion, as in the iPad Pro line. They should also work with the LTPO feature, which has already proven itself in the Apple Watch Series 5.
With LTPO, you can flexibly adjust the screen refresh rate. It can be either increased above 100 Hz (for example, up to the notorious 120 Hz), or reduced down to 1 Hz for maximum energy savings. The latter is very important.
By the way, it is with the help of LTPO that the always-on screen is implemented in the Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6. It could become an important distinguishing feature of the iPhone 13 line - either as a whole, or only models with the Pro prefix. There have already been rumors about this.
Worry no more about iPhone XS/X/8 series
With the iPhone SE and iPhone 11 offering good value, there's little excuse to buy an iPhone XS, X, or iPhone 8. You should also avoid buying any iPhone model older than these because the technology inside will soon be outdated.
If you want to pay less for a good iPhone, your best bet is to choose the iPhone SE and iPhone 11 over older models like the iPhone XS, X, and iPhone 8.
You'll likely end up paying a premium for these iPhones, even if you can find a purchase that looks tempting. Plus, you may not even find them in new condition.
For even older iPhones like the iPhone 7, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 6 generations, there's a good reason why Apple doesn't sell them anymore. These phones are several years old and use outdated technology, resulting in poor performance.
The processor and RAM are four to five years old and are not designed to handle new software and applications. Battery life will also likely suffer because the phone will have to work harder to perform even simple tasks such as connecting to your cellular network.
Some of these phones (iPhone 6S and above) may still receive the latest iOS 15 software update, but there's a chance that this could be the last software update some of these phones will ever receive. This means that you will have an older and therefore much less secure version of iOS.
The “heart” of the line is unlikely to be the Apple M1 chip from the iPad and Mac
iPhone 13 will use Apple A15 chip
There are no plausible rumors online about the installation of Apple M1 chips in smartphones. Just guesses. Therefore, today it is more likely to assume that the iPhone 13 line will use Apple A15 processors. Otherwise it's unlikely to happen.
Apparently, it's all about cooling. The MacBook Air and iPad Pro have relatively large bodies for effective passive heat dissipation, and the MacBook Pro even uses a separate cooler for this. In an iPhone, such a chip will be too hot .
Moreover, judging by a Bloomberg report, Apple barely has time to switch all its computers to chips from the “M” line within the couple of years promised last year. This also hints that something simpler could be used on the iPhone.
Launch of Xs, Xs Max and XR (2018)
Comparing the iPhone in order, we move on to the 2018 presentation, at which 3 new versions were presented: Xs, Xs Max and XR. The Xs Max model has achieved great popularity. This device had a screen diagonal of 6.5″ and it was the first such large frameless display.
Features of Xs and Xs Max:
- Super Retina OLED display.
- 2 cameras.
- In terms of functionality and characteristics, the 2 versions are absolutely identical; they are distinguished only by the diagonal of the display.
- New case color “gold”.
- A version with 512 GB storage has appeared.

Gadget XR:
- Screen: 6.1″,
- LCD.
- bright body colors.
- One camera.
- A12 Bionic processor.
- Memory: 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB.
Find out the price
The iPhone XR was Apple's most popular flagship in 2018.
The iPhone 13 Pro will definitely use the same cameras
Cameras will become faster, but their set will not change
Apple smartphones from the iPhone 13 line will use a similar set of cameras as the iPhone 12. Ming-Chi Kuo, who traditionally wants to be believed, announced this at the end of spring. However, it will not happen without changes.
Most likely, all cameras in the iPhone 13 will become faster . Today this is especially important for ultra-wide-angle modules and telephotos. At the same time, the night mode, which has already proven itself, will also be upgraded.
LiDAR and advanced algorithms also guarantee iPhone 13 Pro (Max) more interesting pictures in Portrait mode.
Best Low-Cost Android Alternatives
Instead of buying an old iPhone, consider a cheaper Android phone.
Our top pick for inexpensive Android phones is the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G . It has high-quality cameras that are capable of capturing impressive images that rival those of the new iPhone 12, especially in low-light conditions.
It runs on a simple and user-friendly version of Android and receives regular software updates. Check out our full review of Samsung smartphones here.
Other great options include the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G, OnePlus 7T and Motorola G Power.
- The Samsung Galaxy A52 5G looks and feels like a premium Galaxy phone for a fraction of the price. It features a vibrant 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with high refresh rate, 5G support, a quad-lens system with a 32MP selfie camera, and long battery life. The Galaxy A52 5G doesn't have the fastest processor, but it's still a great value for a phone at around RUB 20,000.
- The OnePlus 8T at RUB 40,000 was the best premium smartphone with the latest and most powerful specifications. At its current price, this is an incredible deal if you're looking for something with a more premium design and better performance.
- The Xiaomi Poco M4 Pro costs RUB 20,000 and offers excellent value for money, with a large 6.6-inch screen and a massive 5,000mAh battery that can easily give you more than two days of use.
MagSafe won't replace Lightning - at least not yet
MagSafe is not yet ready to replace Lightning
Apple definitely won't switch the iPhone to USB-C. So it will lose a significant part of the profit from certification of accessories under the MFi program. But doing away with ports altogether and focusing on MagSafe is a great idea.
However, in 2021 the company is unlikely to abandon Lightning.
The alternative for it is not yet 100% ready for this. On topic: Can Apple release iPhone 13 without any connectors? Yes or no
Touch ID may appear in power buttons of new smartphones
It's hard to believe that Apple will integrate Touch ID under the screen
Rumors about a fingerprint scanner under the screen or in the power button of Apple smartphones have been circulating for a long time. Following the release of the 4th generation iPad Air, the latter seems like a particularly logical step to take.
At a time when everyone wears masks, it is extremely difficult to unlock a smartphone with your face. Even automatic authentication using the Apple Watch does not help. But Touch ID as an alternative to Face ID seems a very logical idea .
It is quite possible that the size of the bangs will decrease
Apparently, the size of the TrueDepth module, which is responsible for Face ID, will also decrease in the new line of smartphones. However, this will only be known for sure during Apple’s presentation this fall. It's hard to tell from the layouts.
MR headset
Product from the One more thing category. Apple has been hinting for a long time that augmented reality is the future. We didn't understand what the point was, but now the company is preparing to strike with all its might and show off a mixed reality headset.
The power of this headset, which will receive two processors at once, will be comparable to M1-based MacBooks. According to Mark Gurman's insiders, Apple wants the headset to solve problems in three areas - games, content consumption and communication:
The focus of the headset may be gaming. Taking into account the fact that it will receive several processors, a cooler, very high-resolution displays and its own App Store. Apple will position the device as a game developers' dream.
Next is media consumption. I expect Apple will work with partners to create content that can be watched in VR on this headset.
Communication. Animoji and VR capabilities in FaceTime will appear. This could be the next generation of Zoom.

By Bloomberg
It's very interesting to look at this product. Especially considering Apple's desire to make it one of the company's main devices in ten years:
Other features that may appear in the iPhone 13 line
◉ Faster charging. Everyone has been waiting for really fast charging in smartphones from Apple for a very long time. The company is lagging behind. ◉ Reverse Qi charging. There is an assumption that MagSafe will be taught to reverse for charging other gadgets. ◉ Battery capacity. It is difficult to say how this will affect autonomy, but the batteries will increase in mAh number. ◉ Increased storage. Many are expecting 1TB of storage from the iPhone 13 Pro (Max). This is unlikely to happen.
Version 3Gs (2009)
The next smartphone in order is 3Gs. The letter "s" stood for speed. This version of the phone was equipped with a 3 MP camera and was able to shoot video. Since video takes up more space in a smartphone’s storage, a version with 32 GB of memory has appeared.
Other features:
- Shooting video.
- Improved data protection.
- Built-in GPS receiver.
- Now you can copy and paste text.
- iTunes appeared.
This smartphone was distinguished by its speed and performance, so it quickly attracted the attention of many users.
