What exactly in the cable affects the charging of the phone?

The thicker the cord, the better: the flow of electrons in it increases due to the larger diameter, and the resistance decreases, which ultimately leads to an acceleration of the process. To find out the thickness, you should find out its gauge, which complies with AWG (American Wire Gauge) standards. The higher the gauge, the thinner the conductors and vice versa. To reduce the cost of goods, manufacturers often save on copper. Thinner copper wires have a higher AWG and smaller gauge, which means the charging speed will be slower.
Typically, charging cords are 28/28 AWG or 28/24 AWG. The first option is a thin cable that can take no more than 0.5 A, the second option (despite the numbers) is thicker and can withstand up to 2A.
Now about the length. It's also about resistance. The longer the cord, the greater the resistance. This is especially important to remember if the device is equipped with fast charging technologies, such as Fast (or Quick) Charge. By purchasing an inexpensive long cable that can be stretched a couple of meters in the car in order to conveniently mount the phone on the windshield, the driver will ensure that the gadget will not charge, and at best will only maintain its functionality. The optimal length should not exceed 1-1.5 meters.
Quick Charge is suitable for most Android smartphones
