How do you install Face ID?

Setting up Face ID is similar to setting up Touch ID, only easier. iOS will prompt you to set up Face ID as part of the initial iPhone setup. But you can also set Face ID—and reset it—at any time.

  1. launch setup from your home screen.
  2. Click Person ID Passcode .
  3. Enter your Passcode .
  4. Click Set Face ID .
  5. Click Begin.

  6. Place your face inside the circle
  7. Move your head slowly in a circle.
  8. Click Continue .
  9. Move your head slowly in the second circle.
  10. Click Ready.

You can now start using Face ID on your new iPhone!

Which Apple devices support this feature?

Apple was the first to install “Face ID” in iPhones, a scanner of the three-dimensional shape of a person’s face. This development of Apple specialists replaced the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the iPhone XS series in 2022. Now this scanner is equipped with:

  • iPhone XS/XS Max;
  • XR;
  • 11;
  • 11Pro/11Pro Max;
  • 12/12 Mini;
  • 12Pro/12 Pro Max;
  • iPad Pro 2018;
  • iPad Pro 2020;

This sensor allows owners of Apple devices to unlock them and make purchases:

  • iTunes Store;
  • App Store;
  • iBooks Store;
  • select cards for payment in Apple Pay.

Apple guarantees that encrypted biometric information cannot be sent anywhere from the device. It is stored inside the processor and is not an image. It is rather a mathematical model of the face of the owner of an iPhone or iPad. Moreover, this program remembers changes in the owner’s face using neural networks.

How do I disable "Require attention for face identification"?

By default, your Face ID-enabled iPhone will require you to look at it before it will be authenticated. If you want to be able to unlock without looking directly at your iPhone's screen, for accessibility or convenience reasons, you can disable it. It's not as secure, but if you want to unlock while your iPhone is on a table or you keep it out of the way, you can.

Note. The facial recognition system still needs to see your eyes , nose , and mouth in order to authenticate you. Thus, even in the absence of attention, there is a limit to his field of vision.

  1. launch setup from your home screen.
  2. Click Person ID Passcode .
  3. Enter your Passcode .
  4. toggle switch Require attention for face identification to turn off
  5. Click Fine for a safety warning.

Unlock iPhone using a mask

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple introduced a slight improvement to Face ID recognition that can detect when you're wearing a mask and make the number pad jump faster to unlock it with a code. However, the ability to detect a face using a mask has not been added. The reason mainly lies in the loss of efficiency of the system , since ultimately the mouth and nose are the main elements for distinguishing faces.

There is a way to unlock the iPhone without removing the mask completely, by lowering only part of the nose and making it visible to the iPhone. However, we cannot recommend doing this for health reasons, since even for a few seconds you will be exposed to a possible risk of infection by viruses and bacteria, so the mask will lose its effectiveness. This is especially true in crowded public places such as public transport, so make sure to stay at least 2 meters away from other people if you're going to do this.

An additional official method to set up a masked face is as follows, although we once again insist that the unlocking system will lose security and the chances of someone else being able to unlock your device without permission increase.

  • Go to settings.
  • Click on Face ID.
  • Enter your iPhone code.
  • Remove all faces by tapping Reset Face ID.
  • Now click on “Set up Face ID”.
  • Set up your normal face.
  • Now click on “Customize alternate appearance”.
  • Place your face on a blank sheet of paper that covers a quarter of your face (bottom left or right).

It should be noted that Techlab was the first to discover this way to “outsmart” Face ID using a mask.

How do I enable the Require Attention feature for Face ID?

If you want to re-enable Attention Mode for Face ID-enabled iPhone and enjoy auto-expanding notifications, auto-silencing, and enhanced security, here's how.

  1. launch setup from your home screen.
  2. Click Person ID Passcode .
  3. Enter your Passcode .
  4. toggle switch Require attention for face identification on.
  5. toggle switch Attention aware functions on

whatsapp

If you use WhatsApp for all your chats, it's wise to keep it away from prying eyes. Luckily, you can now do this using your fingerprint or face.

Open the app and tap Settings at the bottom of the screen. Here, select Account > Privacy and scroll down to find Screen Lock . Tap on that, then select Require Touch/Face ID . You can also choose how long the app should wait before locking.

By the way, this is just one of the best WhatsApp tricks.

How do you reset Face ID?

If you want to change the face of the person registered to your iPhone, or for some reason you just want to repeat the Face ID setup, you can do it!

Note: no confirmation required - dear Apple, please add a confirmation dialog! - so as soon as you press the button, your Face ID will disappear and you'll have to set it up again to get it back.

  1. launch setup from your home screen.
  2. Click Person ID Passcode .
  3. Enter your Passcode .
  4. Click Reset Face ID.

    Good afternoon, the face ID does not work, I carried out all the specified procedures, after resetting, it says to either lower the phone or raise it higher, but does not determine the location of the face, what could be the problem? The front camera also does not work in portrait format, it asks you to increase the distance from the phone

      Hello! To assess whether your device can be exchanged, it must be inspected to determine the severity of internal damage. This is done within 1-2 days, after which we will be able to give an answer about the possibility of exchanging the phone for a new one.

      Come to our service at Vosstaniya, bring your phone - we will try to help you! Vosstaniya Street, building 14 (entrance from the street).

      Hello Diana! Over the entire existence of the iPhone X model, we have observed various reasons for Face ID failure. Among them were warranty claims. Most often, this happens due to a fall, liquid getting inside the iPhone, or when it was pressed down (for example, sat on it), or replacing the display module with a low-quality one. It is impossible to say for sure or give advice without diagnostics. We can offer the following: 1. Conduct diagnostics. Identify the cause. To do this, you need to bring your iPhone to our service center. 2. If the reason is under warranty and there is any remaining warranty, exchange it under warranty. 3. If the warranty has expired, try to repair it 4. Other options, but this can be said after diagnostics

      PS I am writing all this taking into account the fact that you have read this article in full and followed the recommendations described in it, and it did not help.

      Best regards, Vsevolod.

      Hello! If there are no signs of fogging on the cameras, most likely one of the sensors responsible for Face ID has failed; I would not recommend trying to repair it by a service center. You can take it to the official Apple service center. After diagnostics, they will issue a decision to repair or replace the device. However, over two years we have accumulated disappointing statistics: the Face ID sensors themselves did not fail, customers simply did not know that water/condensation had gotten inside the iPhone. Official service centers refused to exchange the device for a new one under warranty because of this, and offered a commercial exchange for 45,000 rubles. In my opinion, the best solution would be to bring your device to our service center for diagnostics, wait 15 minutes, and then we will offer options that will lead to a successful solution to the problem.

      Hello. It also says that the function is not available, try again later, but there is a mark on the upper rear camera, it feels like it’s fogged up. But the rear camera works. What to do in this situation? There is no way to bring it to you... It would be great if you could advise what to do in this situation. Thank you.

      Hello! What can you offer in this situation? Carefully disassemble, clean all Face ID sensors, clean the glass on the back side from fogging and hope that after reassembly everything will work. In our practice, sometimes it helps. But most often, you need to apply to exchange your iPhone for a new one, or to replace the module under the commercial display replacement program. It is better to find a good service center in your region and have them deal with this problem.

      Hello! First, you should try reinstalling iOS again, installing it cleanly without saving data (you should first make a backup copy of information and important files, if required). If the problem persists after reinstalling iOS, there may be a hardware problem with the Face ID sensors. In such cases, it is worth considering the option of replacing the device, or obtaining service under warranty (if the device is subject to warranty service in our country).

LastPass (and other password managers)

Since your LastPass master password secures all your other passwords, you've hopefully made it strong enough. Instead of having to enter that long password every time you want to enter it somewhere else, it's much more convenient to protect it with Touch ID.

Sign in to LastPass, then click the Settings tab in the bottom right corner of the screen. Select Security and you'll see the Use Touch ID . Turn it on. Below you will find other security options. Most notably, Lockout Options lets you choose how long it takes after you exit the app before it asks for authentication again.

The next time you open LastPass, you can simply scan your finger or face to sign in. The app also allows you to enter your master password if you prefer.

Not using LastPass? This feature is also available in other password managers such as 1Password and Dashlane.

Dropbox

While Dropbox makes it easy to sync files across your devices, you probably have content that no one else needs access to. Luckily, Dropbox is easy to secure.

Open the app and go to the Account tab from the bottom bar. Here, click the Settings icon in the top left corner. Select Enable Password and create a new four-digit password for Dropbox. Once this is done, turn on the Use Touch ID slider.

Now you need to scan your fingerprint or enter your passcode to get into Dropbox.

Amazon

The Amazon app allows you to sign in once it's set up, but will require you to confirm your password if you try to access sensitive areas of your account. If you prefer, you can use Touch/Face ID instead.

However, you will find it in a different place than in the above apps. Visit Settings and scroll down to Amazon in your list of applications. On the settings page, enable the Use biometric authentication slider.

Authy

By now, we hope two-factor authentication is a vital way to protect your accounts. We like Authy's 2FA app because it lets you sync your account across multiple devices, but it gets extra points for Touch ID support.

Open Authy and tap settings on the home screen. Select Security from the menu that appears. Here you need to enable App Protection and choose a four-digit PIN like Dropbox.

Once you've done this, simply turn on the Touch ID Security slider to allow fingerprint login. If you enable Protect your entire app you will need to scan every time you open the app.

Guided Access on iPhone

Cool feature that I just learned about today. With its help, you can block sections of the screen (or the entire screen) when the iPhone or iPad is in the hands of a child or someone who does not need to know too much. Another feature can be used to prevent accidental gestures from triggering.

Guided Access lets you lock areas of your iPhone or iPad's screen in apps

  • Go to Settings and enter “Guided Access” in the search;
  • Turn on the “ Guided Access ” feature;
  • Create a passcode below when using Guided Access." Works also with Touch ID;
  • Set the Automatic Screen Lock time: the function will work while using the iPhone in Guided Access mode;
  • After that, go to the application and triple-click the Home button or the power button on new iPhones;
  • Select areas of the screen where touching should not work;
  • To turn off a mode or set a time limit, press the Home button or the power button again, enter the passcode, and press End.

It seems it's time to subscribe to our Yandex.Zen to know more than others!

Apple Notes

Most built-in Apple apps don't provide Touch ID/Face ID security. Notes are an exception; this allows you to lock individual notes for added security.

Create a new note or open an existing one. To block it, click the Share button in the top right corner of the page. On the general sheet, select Note Note . Then you will need to set a password (with an additional hint). Make sure you hold the Use Touch ID slider so that your fingerprint unlocks the note.

In the meantime, take a look at other hidden Apple Notes features.

How to disable the bottom curtain on an iPhone?

1. First of all, open Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Increase Contrast and turn off the slider next to Reduce Transparency. This is a required item.

Interesting materials:

Is it possible to appeal the test part? Is it possible to serve with your hand in table tennis? Is it possible to prepare for the exam in chemistry from scratch? Is it possible to feed seedlings with starch? Can you catch an STD in the pool? Is it possible to raise the temperature with Grifile? Is it possible to raise your IQ level? Can mushroom soup be reheated? Can you heat bread in the microwave? Is it possible to pay for a bus with a planner?

App Store

Tired of having to enter your Apple ID password every time you make a purchase from the App Store? Instead, you can protect your downloads using your fingerprint. This needs to be done even when downloading free apps, but it only takes a minute to scan.

To make sure it's enabled, visit Settings > Touch (Face) ID & Password . Confirm your password, then turn on the iTunes & App Store slider on the next screen.

PayPal (and other financial apps)

Since financial information is obviously quite sensitive, you'll want to add a layer of protection if you have the PayPal app on your phone.

When you set up the PayPal app for the first time, it will prompt you to enable Touch ID. To add this later, log in and click Settings in the top right corner. Scroll down and open the Login & Security section and turn on Touch ID . You can also set a PIN here.

Many banking and other financial apps support Touch ID, such as Chase Mobile and Discover Mobile. However, it is not possible to cover them all here as support varies greatly from bank to bank. Look at your bank or credit card company's apps to see if they offer this feature.
