Wireless headphones don't work - how to fix?

One of the most common problems encountered when connecting Bluetooth headphones to a laptop or PC is when the headphones are connected, but do not play sound. That is, the sound from the laptop (in games, in the browser, in the player) does not go to wireless headphones, but is played from the laptop’s speakers or connected speakers. At the same time, very often Bluetooth headphones themselves are not displayed in playback devices in Windows 10, 8, 7. There is no way to select a headphone as a device for outputting sound from a computer.

We will look at solutions related specifically to the lack of sound from the headphones, and not to the connection. Your earphone must be connected to your computer. If you can’t connect, here are the instructions: how to connect Bluetooth headphones to a computer or laptop. Another popular problem is when the laptop does not see Bluetooth headphones at all. Answering questions on this topic in the comments to other articles, I noticed that most problems are related precisely to the incompatibility of the headphones and the Bluetooth adapter system/driver. Even if Windows finds and connects headphones (or a Bluetooth speaker, it doesn’t matter), very often the system simply does not understand how to work with this device. Since the device is new, but the driver/system is outdated. And it is precisely for this reason that very often you have to look for and apply different solutions, which I will talk about in this article. This happens especially often when connecting new devices to Windows 7, since the system is already old, and it is usually installed on laptops and PCs with outdated hardware.

Connection problems

There are specific problems with each manufacturer's products. The principles of connection, use and troubleshooting are the same for all Bluetooth devices.

There are some of the most common defects. Among them:

  • The headset does not turn on or off;
  • unexpected connection or disconnection from a source;
  • The Bluetooth module conflicts between devices;
  • new renovation required;
  • Ability to work only next to the main device (phone, PC, tablet).

Updating the Bluetooth driver on a laptop or computer

Usually, if there are any problems with the Bluetooth connection, then sooner or later it’s time to reinstall or update the drivers. You can try to do this through the “Device Manager” by right-clicking on the Bluetooth device. Disable Bluetooth itself in advance through “Settings” so that you only see the device itself, and not the connections.

Or you can update the firewood for the Wi-Fi module, because it is responsible for Bluetooth.

But, as a rule, you will most likely see a message that the driver does not need to be updated - this means that there is no update on Microsoft servers. Therefore, it is better to download the firewood manually. In this case, the driver for Bluetooth is updated not separately, but for the entire Wi-Fi adapter. There are many methods for manual updating and I will not describe them here - you can read detailed instructions about this here. Don’t look at the fact that it is written for the seven, it is suitable for any version of “windows”.

Reasons why wireless headphones stopped working

First, let's discuss the most likely problems that you can solve on your own.

Incorrect battery placement

If your battery-powered wireless headphones won't turn on, it's worth checking the polarity of the battery. For headsets with a diameter of 6 and 9 mm, the negative terminal of the battery will be on the outside, and the positive terminal on the inside. On the other hand, the opposite is true for the 11mm device. You can check the instructions.

You can send the battery to recharge for a short period of time. Some devices display the charge level with indicators and sound a warning sound before the battery is low. It's also worth checking your headphone charger, it may not be working. When you turn it on, you can also be guided by the indicators on the headphones and charger.

No sound

There are two main reasons for the lack of sound:

  • problem with the device (smartphone, PC);
  • headphone malfunction.

What to do:

  • Check the charge level. Charge the battery if necessary.
  • Restart your headset and smartphone.
  • Test on multiple devices by connecting them to different phones, smartphones, PCs or tablets.
  • Check the headset for mechanical damage.
  • Check Bluetooth version compatibility.

Distance

Bluetooth does not work properly when the headset is too far from the smartphone. Typically the coverage area is 10 meters or less and there should be no obstacles such as walls, trees or partitions. As this distance increases, interference occurs.

In this case, you need to restart both devices and update the software if necessary. If it is unclear what exactly is causing the interference, we recommend testing the headset via cable.

Bluetooth signal disappears

If the problem is not a manufacturing defect, then it is the battery.

The reasons for unexpected interruption of the Bluetooth signal are as follows:

  • low charge;
  • Outdated version of the Bluetooth module;
  • there are obstacles in the signal transmission path (household appliances, other radio stations or Bluetooth modules);
  • the distance between the headset and the device is greater than permissible;
  • playback device malfunction;
  • External weather conditions: air temperature is too low or too high;
  • The speakers are dirty with dust and moisture.

The Bluetooth speaker output of the micro-earphone is clogged with earwax

In this case, the sound will disappear or disappear on one side. The contamination will be visible. Even if that's not the reason, it's never a bad idea to clean your headphones:

  1. Prepare hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine, a needle, and cotton swabs.
  2. Using a needle, carefully remove dirt from the sound hole of the monolithic body.
  3. Use a cotton ball to remove hydrogen peroxide.
  4. Soak and rinse the removable mesh and covers, pads or earplugs with peroxide.
  5. For over-ear or over-ear headphones, change the foam filter.
  6. Monolithic channel ears can be impregnated with a downward-facing hole and secured securely with clamps. So that no liquid can get inside.
  7. Isopropyl alcohol or standard ethyl alcohol can be used on internal surfaces, circuit boards, and contacts. Other liquids may cause damage.
  8. Before using the device, you need to dry it on a cotton ball.

Setting incorrect phone settings

Sometimes in the smartphone settings the sound source is set by default to the speaker. In this case, you must enable audio transmission through headphones:

  • settings;
  • sound;
  • sound source;
  • to select a device and activate it.

Different phones may have different section names, look for a logical path to the desired setting.

Additionally, special operating modes of your smartphone or tablet, such as power saving, security, and flight, may block the Bluetooth signal. The wireless headset does not turn on because it is not paired with the source.

Breaking up a pair with headphones

Couple breaking up with iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Find the device you want to unlink and click the Details button. .
  3. Click Forget About This Device.
  4. Restart your iPhone.

Stop pairing with a third-party device:

  1. On a third-party device, go to the Bluetooth settings menu and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. For example, on an Android device, go to Settings > Connected Devices > Connection Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Stop pairing the headset or “forget” about it.
  3. Reboot your third-party device.

The signal on Bluetooth headphones is interrupted

The periodic signal is quite simple to use.

There's nothing more frustrating than a Bluetooth connection that disappears while listening to music. There may also be several factors at play. First, these are different devices again, but this time just search for them on your smartphone. Perhaps your module is simply overloaded or does not properly distribute communication channels between, say, the clock, headphones and speaker. Try disconnecting different gadgets one by one until you find the “culprit”. After that, remove it from the system and reuse it.

Obstacles are another common irritation. And in this case, the obstacle may be... of course. Yes, don’t be surprised, some not very new models of “ears” “penetrate” the human body quite poorly. So try moving your smartphone to another pocket. For example, from a trouser pocket to a breast pocket.

Bluetooth version

As you already know, there are quite a few versions of Blue Tooth. The problem is that with each new version old bugs are removed and the transfer speed is increased. Some protocol issues are also resolved. It is clear that higher versions also work with older ones. But here, incidents may arise if, for example, the phone has a too old version, and the headphones, on the contrary.

There is one unspoken rule - both devices must have support for Bluetooth at least 4.2. You can google the headphone version, or look at the box or in the documentation if you still have them. If the versions are very different, then this may be the problem.

The sound in wireless Bluetooth headphones especially often disappears when listening to high-quality and voluminous tracks when the bitrate is high. In this case, the problem lies in a weak data transmission channel. You can check this by including a smaller audio file. Everything is simple here, usually, the larger the Blue Tooth version, the wider the transmission channel and the higher the speed - therefore, you can listen to larger sound files.

On your phone you can view the version in the same way. Or download AIDA64 from Google Play. After installation, simply open the “System” section and scroll to the desired item.

With a computer and laptop everything is a little more complicated. Although you can similarly download the AIDA64 program, you can do without it.

  1. Right-click on the computer and go to “Properties”. Next, go to “Device Manager”.

  1. Open the “Blue Tooth” section, right-click on the device, go to “Properties” and open the “Advanced” tab.

  1. Now look at the LMP version and check it with the table below.

  1. It happens that the LMP version is not displayed, then we go to network adapters and find our Wi-Fi module (it is also responsible for Bluetooth). We find its name and just Google it.

Make sure they are charged. Try to connect it according to the instructions and turn it on. https://mcgrp.ru/files/viewer/112487/1#navigate_bar

Try turning it on with the charger connected. If they turn on with charging but not without it, then the battery is faulty.

If they do not turn on and are charged, then they are physically faulty. Or send it in for repairs, if under warranty, then under warranty or in a bucket. There's not much to repair there. If you open it, it won't be as good as new.

Mine also does not respond to the indication on the USB cable via a 3.5 jack, they work, but otherwise they are dead!

I’m tired of connecting! But I figured it out. After another discharge I didn’t use it for a week - and because of this, all the information about them was lost from my computer! I charged it today and I can’t connect! No matter what I did, nothing helped. Not a single site has an answer on how to solve it they do not connect with other devices! only instructions and user complaints! so press the upper right button (power on) for 6 seconds - the blue and red LEDs begin to blink alternately (this is pairing mode) at this time in the blues settings on the computer select - forget the device then we reconnect it to the computer. With this new connection, the computer reads from the headphones (device certificates, as imac wrote to me) due to the fact that these certificates were lost, it could not work with the headphones (although I connected to them, I wrote ACCORD but nothing else) So it’s not the antenna in the headphones that stopped working, it’s not the battery that has failed, it’s just that these identification certificates have disappeared! On computers, these things are called drivers. I don’t know much about computers, so it’s a shame that you can’t find answers on the net.

Charging wireless headphones is no different from charging any phone. Methods for recharging Bluetooth headphones depend only on the features of the connector and a specific design model. According to statistics, 98% of all headphones have a micro-USB connector. And all that is needed for recharging is just a cable, which is included as standard.

Troubleshooting

If the audio device does not see the headphones, you need to check if they are charged. The wireless headset runs on an installed battery; certain models work without charging for up to 50 hours, some only 4-5 hours.

Disconnect the headphones; as a rule, when turned on, the indicator on the device body lights up. Recharge your device. We must not forget that certain models require only 1 hour to fully recharge, while some need to be recharged for more than 5 hours.

If the headset is connected to the charger and the indicator lights up, then everything is working normally, you just need to wait until the battery is fully charged.

If after connecting the headset to the charger the indicator does not turn on for 2-3 minutes, the device is probably broken.

Make sure that the outlet where the charger is connected is working. If the headphones are connected to the laptop via a USB cable, you need to make sure that the USB port is working normally. Not all ports transmit the required electrical voltage. Most often, USB ports that can recharge external equipment are marked with a lightning bolt symbol. If there is no signal when connecting to one of the ports, connect the wire to another port or to another laptop.

Battery low

A common cause of this problem is that the built-in battery in the headset is low. Turning on the device is done by pressing and holding the power key.

During operation, it constantly emits a light signal; the signal blinks at a frequency of 3–5 seconds. If, after holding down the corresponding key, the LED does not light up, then you need to recharge the battery.

In this situation, you should also consider a breakdown that is associated with the wireless headphones getting wet or falling. They should be diagnosed at a service center.

Terminate the process

Sometimes the Your Phone app may crash when launching, leaving the background process in an error state. In this case, try ending the process and restarting the application.

Open the Task Manager with the taskmgr command launched from a Win + R window or simply press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

On the Processes tab, find the Your Phone process, right-click on it and select End Task.

Then run the application again and check if the problem is resolved

Complete phone solutions

Try updating the operating system to the latest version (Settings - System - System Update). If this does not help, you can try resetting the Bluetooth connection settings. To do this, in “Settings”, find “System” and go to the reset section. First, reset the Bluetooth, Internet and Wi-Fi settings. After this, you can try resetting application configurations on your phone.

If you use phones from Xiaomi, then their proprietary firmware has such a bug. When you connect the headphones, a window appears where you must uncheck the “Allow access to contacts and call log” checkbox.
