Setting up Teredo in Windows XP blog.cherepovets.ru/serovds/2013/07/30/teredo-winxp/
IPv6/Teredo – Windows 7.8
You have no idea what IPv6/Teredo is.
I advise you to follow these links:
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAT https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6 https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teredo
In short, if you use BitTorrent on an ongoing basis and want to get the most out of p2p, but the provider’s NAT may get in your way, and no amount of port forwarding will help you, then using Teredo can add both new seeds to you and increase your level distributions (for trackers taking into account statistics).
because IPv6 support for BitTorrent Trackers is currently only in its infancy, as is IPv6 support for the rest of the Internet, setting up Teredo is not a panacea for use by all users.
I recommend using Teredo if its use is intended only for torrenting and surfing IPv6 sites.
In cases where you want to use full-fledged IPv6, I recommend googling “tunnel brokers,” but be prepared for the fact that all your traffic will fly across half the globe. Or contact the technical support of your provider, asking them to provide you with real (native, native, full) IPv6!
At least such trackers exist
https://version6.ru/torrent-trackers
Among the ones I recommended:
With registration https://ipv6.nnm-club.ru/ Open https://ipv6.rutor.org/ And public (as a ReTracker) https://www.ipv6tracker.org/
You tried to set it up but nothing worked
I have no desire to tediously and scrupulously describe all the principles of IPv6 and Teredo. Here, as they say, Google to the rescue!
UPD 09/08/2015: GOOGLE CHROME IPv6
When using a browser based on chromium (google chrome, Opera15 and higher, etc.), specify the --enable-ipv6
"C:\{blah blah blah}\chrome.exe" —enable-ipv6
Starting from version 45.0.xxxx this parameter has been removed, and Teredo support has been removed accordingly. Use another browser that is not based on Chromium code, or use these instructions: Configuring IPv6/Teredo for browsers based on Chromium code. . .

Teredo Protocol: what is it?
If you don’t go into technical details, but in official language, Teredo is a technology for working with IPv6 addresses over the IPv4 protocol, as well as transmitting corresponding data packets.
However, the protocols of the fourth and sixth versions are compatible with each other, if you use the Microsoft Teredo adapter (a type of virtual adapters), this task becomes quite feasible. But most users do not need it in their daily work, even with constant Internet access.
Teredo functionality
The transfer of information occurs in this way:
- the system listens to the IPv4 connection, finds NAT if it exists;
- after listening, the computer to which the information will be transmitted is assigned an IP version 6 address;
- then processing begins - the information is packaged in UDPv4 for passage over networks using protocol version 4;
- While packaging continues, Teredo routes IPv6 hosts.

How justified is the use of Teredo tunneling?

The need to use a Microsoft tunnel adapter today raises legitimate doubts. First, not all service providers support IP version six (you must have at least an active DHCP server on V6).
Secondly, as research by leading specialists from Symantec Corporation, a leader in the field of computer security, shows, the Teredo pseudo tunnel interface technology has many potential vulnerabilities. This is due to some of its features.
Firstly, there are not many firewalls in the world today that can handle the Teredo protocol. What does this mean in practical terms? Roughly speaking, attackers at the data transmission stage can easily bypass any filter. In addition, the firewall or threat ID detection systems were unable to deploy double-rolling traffic based on UDP and TCP protocols by converting it from the beginning, then IPv6 to IPv4. Thus, attacking the package(s) can be easily obtained, for example, on a corporate network and implemented in programs using the sixth version of the protocol.
There is no less criticism of the Teredo driver that problems are very often observed. The most common situation is an error message that you cannot turn on the device (code 10). Therefore, it has to be constantly reinstalled, which arouses user enthusiasm.
Where is the Teredo adapter used?
Teredo technology is not used everywhere, since many firewalls are not yet able to process data from this protocol, and attackers can easily bypass any filter. Firewalls cannot deploy the same traffic twice, which must first be converted to IP version 6 and then version 4.
This adapter is included by default in Microsoft versions of Windows 7/8/10. Currently it is used on all computers with Windows OS installed.
Possible driver problems: what to do first
If a problem with the Teredo driver still occurs, you can first try reinstalling or updating it.
You need to use exclusively the Device Manager found in the standard Control Panel, and not a third-party program such as Driver Booster, because the device itself is a virtual adapter.
Managers need to select the Teredo adapter and right-click to open the context menu. Here we use the line properties or directly using the update or remove driver command. To download the driver from the Internet, you do not need to do it in advance, but after installing it, the system reboots, it is advisable to use the F8 key and in the “Advanced” menu, select the line to disable driver digital signature verification to avoid problems in the future. In the same manager, the driver can simply be disabled so as not to have to reinstall it (most users still don’t need it).
Error code 10 - this device cannot start
Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface fault type code 10 is a common adapter problem. It is expressed in the form of a yellow icon on the driver and a system message that the driver cannot be started.
In order to solve the problem, you must have an account with administrator rights. If a user's entry is the only one on the computer, then he is an administrator.
If this is a work computer and other people are working on it, then contact your system administrator. He will help solve the problem.
If the user is the owner of the rights, then repeat the commands described in the “Disable Teredo” paragraph. This method should solve the problem. If the problem is not solved, then return the driver to its original position. That is, turn on the adapter.
Enter recovery commands :
- "interface teredo set state default";
- "interface isatap set state default".
A selection of Apple products that few people know about
After each command, do not forget to press “Enter”. There are other methods to solve the problem.
One of the reasons may be a virus attack. Since IPv6 protocols are not properly protected, a virus can easily get onto your computer . Therefore, check the operating system with any available antivirus. Folders that are subject to special checking are System 32 and drivers.
Tunnel.sys is responsible for the driver. If it is infected, try to cure it. If treatment is useless, remove it with an antivirus program. Then reinstall the drivers. Be sure to download the new version of the driver before uninstalling it.
After destroying the infected file, restart your computer and install the new version of drivers .
Scan the system for viruses
As already mentioned, there is no adapter vulnerability. And if errors occur at any stage, it is advisable to perform a full system scan for virus threats and malicious executable codes.
This can be done using a regular scanner, you just don’t need to use the SMART check function and the semantic core. But it is better to use professional portable tools or tools such as Kaspersky Rescue Disk, which will start the system and perform the most powerful scan.
Check your internet connection
Teredo requires an Internet connection to work, so check that first. To check your Internet connection:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Games > Xbox Network.
- Under Connection Status, check to see if you are connected to the Internet.
If your internet is not connected, you will need to fix this issue before making any other fixes.
Scan and restore system and files
View from the other side of the Teredo adapter. What it is is already clear. How it works is the same.
But among the causes of malfunction there may also be emergency situations. Therefore, if the above methods do not produce results, you must use the command line, called via cmd in the “Run” menu (Win key + R), which prescribes the command diagnostics and system repair files sfc /scannow with (the console must be launched as an administrator ).
If the IPv6 network protocol is used
If your system still uses IPv6, then you will not be able to disable or remove the adapter. In this case, you need to try to restore its functionality. To do this you need to take the following actions:
- since the problem may be in the network card driver, you need to update it to the latest version, which can be downloaded from the official website of your equipment manufacturer and installed;
- try to restore the device’s functionality using the built-in Windows scan and recovery tools, to do this, run the cmd program as written above, type sfc /scannow in the window, wait for the process to complete and restart the computer;
- Try troubleshooting automatically using Fix It.
If none of the methods help, then you may need to reinstall the system.
Disable tunnel adapter
Finally, using the command line, the tunnel adapter can be disabled. Run the console as administrator as shown above.
Next you need to specify the following line: netsh interface for Teredo set to disabled state.
As you can see, it uses the command for network connections because the network device adapter.
If the adapter and connection are used again in the console, as the fourth command was entered, set the state to default (default value).
How to remove Teredo?

Automatic correction of system failures
There is another method that allows you to fix problems with your Teredo adapter without user intervention. What kind of instrument is this?
This is a specialized Microsoft tool to repair it. After installation, simply run the program, and all known problems or errors, including errors of interest to the adapter, will be automatically corrected. At the end of the process, you don’t even need to reboot the system.
Fix 3 – Enable IP Helper Automatic Settings
If you see the same error message, you need to enable IP Helper.
1. First, press the Windows and R keys simultaneously.
2. Then type services.msc and press Enter to open Services.
3. When services open, find the “IP Helper” service.
4. Then double click on it.
5. After that, click on the “Startup Type:” drop-down list and select “Automatic”.
6. Then click "Start" to start the service.
7. Finally, click Apply and OK to save the changes.
Close the Services window. Reboot your system for the changes to take effect.
Return to a previous system state
Try returning the system to a previous state using a restore point. You need to select an OS state in which the error with Teredo evaluation did not occur.
If System Restore doesn't work, try creating a new user account. Check if the error has been fixed.
If you can't join or host a multiplayer game on Xbox Live, or connect to a party chat session, click the Start , go to Settings > Games > Xbox Network , and check the NAT Type .
If it says Teredo can't get address , your PC can't get Teredo's IP address.
Teredo is a network protocol used to establish secure connections between clients and servers and enable communication between devices behind routers that use Network Address Translation (NAT).
You may not be able to obtain a Teredo IP address if there is a problem with your Teredo adapter, if a device on your network blocks the Teredo protocol, or if you have software installed on your PC that disables Teredo functionality. Without a Teredo IP address, you won't be able to use party chat or play multiplayer games on Xbox Live.
Note. A Teredo IP address is only required to use party chat and multiplayer games on Xbox Live. If your game does not use Xbox Live, contact the game manufacturer's support team for assistance with party chat and multiplayer issues.
Checking the hosts file
Every system has a hosts file that allows you to map hostnames to IP addresses when connecting to the Internet. The error that the evaluation could not be completed occurred when the hosts file was either corrupted or had many additional entries.
Open a Command Prompt with Administrator rights using System Search.
Once the file is open in Notepad, press Ctrl + F and type the line:
If any entries are found, they need to be deleted. Save the changes and restart your PC.
Checking the router
In this step, you need to make sure that there are no conflicting settings on the router itself. Typically, many routers have custom options disabled by default, which causes problems when Windows tries to enable the Teredo protocol.
Enter the IP address in the browser address bar to enter the router settings.
Check that the following option is enabled in the settings:
Save the changes, restart the router and computer. Check to see if the rating issue is resolved.
How to update drivers?

If you have discovered an error on your computer related to the Microsoft Teredo tunnel adapter, then we hasten to please you that the “fix” is quite simple and quick. The first thing you need to know is that there is no need to install any drivers to fix the problem, and the second thing is that in order to solve the problem, you only need the command line. Let's look at all this in order.
What caused the error
The error message "Teredo could not complete the assessment" occurs when an attempt to connect to the Xbox Live service fails. There are a number of reasons and most of them are related to the network.
Unstable internet connection. This reason tops the list because it is the most common. Reboot your router and check your internet connection.
Damaged Teredo adapter. To implement the protocol, a Teredo adapter is used, which is hidden in the system by default. The error occurs when it is damaged.
IP Ancillary Service. The Teredo engine also uses the IP address helper service to change network parameters. If this service is not enabled or is performed manually, access issues will occur.
Server name Teredo. If the virtual server name is different from the default name, then access problems will also occur.
Teredo is disabled in the registry. If this protocol is disabled in the registry, then you will encounter an error every time your Xbox tries to connect to the Live service.
UPnP v2. The router must support UPnP v2 to properly run the Teredo protocol. If it is not supported or disabled, the connection process will not complete.
Invalid entries in the host file. Every version of Windows has a hosts file that is used to map hostnames to IP addresses. If it contains incorrect entries, it will fail to connect to the Teredo protocol.
The router does not support Teredo. Some routers do not support this network protocol.
The latest Windows updates are not installed. Microsoft engineers have officially acknowledged the problem and released an update to fix it. You need to install all pending updates.
VPN and firewalls. VPNs additionally change the network configuration, which may conflict with the way Teredo works.
Note: Before you begin with the solutions, you must update Windows and all Xbox games to the latest version.
Now let's move directly to the solutions to the error, log in with an administrator account.
