The “Unlimited Internet” option now costs 200 rubles per month. It already cost 100, 200, 350 and was free. Now it’s 200 rubles a month again. This is clearly better than the previous option - 350 rubles per month.

If we abstract from changes and comparisons with the previous version, then the tariff is quite normal. For packages of minutes, SMS and mobile Internet. It is possible to connect unlimited Internet for an additional fee. And, it would seem, what could go wrong. And all…

What I don’t like about the Tariffishche tariff plan:

Unlimited Internet only works in your home region. Maybe one of the numerous services will already be interested in an operator who has forgotten about the abolition of intranet roaming?
You can only distribute a limited amount of the main Internet package. And this is even without the “Unlimited Internet” option. And if you exceed the package, pay 80 rubles per calendar day on the days you use the distribution.
File-sharing networks: 5 GB are allocated per calendar day for 75 rubles when trying to connect to torrents or other services. Are these conditions adequate? No, of course not!

If you do not take into account unlimited mobile Internet and distribution to other devices, then the tariff is quite normal. But a step to the left or a step to the right - pay, pay and pay some more. It’s scary to even imagine how much MTS can pump out of an inattentive subscriber who decides to give away the Internet.

The mobile operator focuses on the “Exchange gigabytes for cashback” promotion with the “Unlimited Internet” option disabled or on MTS Premium with the option enabled. But in the first case, we can say that this is a tariff with a mobile Internet package, and not a tariff for calls. A discount for unused gigs is not bad, but nothing more. MTS Premium is a privilege program that is still worth understanding, until I haven’t seen any cool offers there. But what I would focus on is a bunch of conditions in a detailed description that can suck money from the balance. And it is especially noteworthy that compared to the previous version of the tariff, where everything was already bad in this regard, MTS added an automatically connected paid distribution when the main package for distribution is used up - for 80 rubles per calendar day. And the days themselves are calendar days! Not 24 hours, but until 12 o'clock at night. For example, if you started distributing at 23 o’clock, you will be charged 80 rubles for 1 hour, and then, if you continue to distribute after 12 o’clock at night, another 80 rubles will be charged for the next day.

If you decide to connect a tariff, and I remind you that under certain usage scenarios it is not so terrible, then I would recommend that you further study all the conditions in the detailed description in your region. This is exactly the kind of tariff where without it you can’t go anywhere.

To transfer Internet traffic from MTS to MTS, you must wait for confirmation from the invited person. If a future participant is connected to a tariff without a monthly fee and without the included Internet VIP, Internet Mini, Internet Super, Internet Maxi, SuperBit, Bit, MTS Tablet or MTS Connect functions, he is connected automatically.

In other cases, the subscriber receives an invitation to join the group, which must be accepted. Before a user can share the Internet, they must confirm participation in one of the following ways:

Send an SMS with the phrase Yes to the number from which the message came. If there are several offers, you need to type the text YES#YYYY, where YYYY is the last digits of the subscriber to whom the person wants to connect. There is no need to pay for SMS if the person is in the Russian Federation and home region.
Log in to your Personal Account and click the Accept invitation button.

In both cases, the person who decided to share the Internet. Receives a confirmation SMS. Approval of participation in the group is given 60 minutes from the moment the message is sent. When a participant performs such actions, the initiator receives a corresponding notification that the member has left the group. From now on, he will not be able to share the Internet with the logged out user.

To control Wi-Fi distribution, telecom operators use TTL (stands for “Time to live”). It's difficult to explain what it is. Let's consider only the principle of operation:

All devices set their own TTL value, which is taken into account when sending data packets to the network.
The packet passes through the router and then decrements its value by one. For example, from 64 (the standard value used by mobile devices) to 63.
The carrier monitors this and knows when the Wi-Fi goes live.

What is the problem and how to fix it

Russian mobile operators strive to earn extra money when you turn your smartphone into an access point and enable mobile Internet distribution to other devices. They indicate their tariff in the terms and conditions on the website. Another story with MTS. When Smart Unlimited appeared in 2016, it was initially assumed that there would be no fee for distribution. But it was introduced after the fact.

Several years have passed and the situation has not changed. The website does not indicate how much it costs to distribute Wi-Fi to MTS Unlimited. The amount of 0.90 rubles per day, which is periodically posted on the website, is a “promotional” amount and lasts only a few weeks. The normal rate after this is about 30 rubles per day. If you use this tariff for a whole month, the fee will be more expensive than the cost of the tariff.

For MTS Unlimited, bypassing the WiFi distribution ban is relatively easy. The mobile operator uses the TTL parameter to understand whether you have shared the Internet. There are several ways to determine this, but MTS and other operators most often use this parameter.

What is TTL? When data “travels” across the network, it does not happen chaotically, but according to clear protocols. In accordance with the rules, information is divided into packets, and each of them, in addition to the transmitted data, contains technical information. TTL is one such indicator. It stands for Time To Live - the lifetime of a data packet and is needed so that the packet “self-destructs” if it is “lost” on the network. Each time you go through a new router, the parameter decreases by one. When it is zero, the data packet is not forwarded.

Let's assume that you have enabled Internet distribution from your phone in the MTS Unlimited tariff. For example, a laptop connected to the WiFi network. It receives and sends data via WiFi as soon as it “connects” with the smartphone. Its data packets pass through the phone and one is subtracted from the TTL. Next, the data packets arrive at the next router belonging to MTS. And there the operator checks the package. If the TTL is less than it should be, MTS starts limiting the distribution: counting down to 100 MB. And after they run out, they withdraw money from your account. Already in the operator’s messages or by statement at the end of the month, you will find out how much WiFi distribution costs on MTS Unlimited.

The standard Time To Live indicator is 64, 128 or 256. But Android uses exactly 64. Simply sticking to this number will show the operator that there was no Internet distribution.

Adjusting TTL on an Android device

This method allows you to make sure that your phone can transmit Wi-Fi to absolutely any device for free.

Install the APK. Let's launch the application.
A large green button will appear, click on it.

Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to obtain ROOT rights. It depends on your phone model and its firmware. If this does not help, use other applications: “SuperSU”, “FramaRoot”, “Root360”.

Download the TTL Master program. It is easily found on Google Play. But it’s better to find another version using a search engine - 3.0.1.
Install and launch the application.
We see the interface on which there is a circle with numbers. The value indicated there is “63”.
Go to settings using the corresponding icon.
Change the “TTL value” and “TTL value in the input field”. You must specify that the TTL is 64.
