If the user downloaded the Skype program to a new personal device or reinstalled it after loading the operating system, then before starting to work with the platform, you must enter your Skype login. It’s great if, when creating an account, the same data was used for it as for the Windows OS, then the authorization information is the same. Otherwise, a logical question arises: how to find out your Skype login on your computer and phone.
What to do if you forgot your Skype login?
If suddenly your data is lost and you can’t log into the system, it doesn’t matter. There is a way to restore the necessary information.
The first thing you need to do is open the authorization page. A “Forgot username” link will appear at the bottom. You need to click on it.
The system will prompt the user to enter an alternate phone number or email address that is associated with the account. Enter one of the proposed options and click on the “Next” button.
Note! The phone number can be entered in any format.
If a phone number is entered, the system will prompt you to confirm your account via SMS or call (put a dot in the appropriate line).
How to make a Skype call - video call to a new subscriber
If you want to enter an e-mail, select the “Use email address” line. And enter an alternative address.
In this case, a code will be sent to your e-mail, which you will need to enter in the appropriate line.
After this, access to your account will be restored.
Where to see your nickname
- Here's how to view your nickname on Skype if you use the desktop version for Windows or the built-in version for the tenth version of this operating system. Just click on your profile photo, and when the personal information page opens, your nickname will appear next to your avatar.
- You can find out your nickname in Skype for Android by clicking on the three menu bars and opening the tab with personal information
- Here's where to see your nickname in Skype, created for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch - just find and open the section called "My Info"
- You can find out your nickname in Skype for Mac by simply clicking on your profile photo (just like in the case of Windows)

The system warns that the account does not exist
If all actions are performed correctly, then the user will be able to log into his account and find out his login. If something goes wrong, the system will notify you that such an account does not exist, which means access to the page is limited.
Important! This means that the name the user entered is not associated with the account.
One possible reason is:
- Error in alternative e-mail or phone.
- Forgotten username.
- Long absence from Skype.
For example, if the last time a user logged in was before 2014, that means he has a year of inactivity. After this, the account will be deleted.
Message filter
If you use, for example, the Mozilla Thunderbird program or a service in which you can filter letters, then you can try to find letters that came from Skype support.
If you do not yet use client programs to work with mail, I recommend following the link and familiarizing yourself with the settings and advantages of such programs: “Installing and configuring the Mozilla Thunderbird mail program.” Now I will give an example of how you can make a filter by words. For example, we need to find letters that contain the word Skype, thereby finding old letters that may contain your login.
So, select your email on the left (if there are several of them), then enter “skype” at the top right. In the image below you can see that the program has filtered the emails and found several emails that contain the word Skype.
Now you need to go into these letters and look at their contents. Below I showed you a screenshot of my Skype login. Once I did a password recovery, this message was sent after the entire procedure.
Conclusion: if you have reset your password, then perhaps there is a message in your mail in which you can see your Skype login.

Another user's Skype login
How to find another user's login? There is nothing complicated about this either. To do this, follow the following instructions:
- Log in and select the “Contacts” tab in the top menu.
- Select the user whose details you want to know and right-click on the avatar. Select View Profile. After this, the login of the user you are interested in will open.
- The user's profile will open. Information about it will be in the “Skype Login” line.
From computer
Skype was originally created for PC users. The mobile version for Android and iPhone appeared a little later. You can find out your login from your computer in different ways:
- through your profile;
- through a friend's profile;
- through directory browsing.
Doing this is even easier than understanding the reasons why the camera does not turn on in Skype.
Through your profile
A very simple and fast method. Through your own profile, you can find out your login in the application in just a couple of mouse clicks. To view the necessary information, you just need to go to Skype, click on the “More” button and select the “Settings” option in the context menu:
The user login will be shown in the “Account and Profile” section:
Attention: do not confuse login with nickname. The user can choose a nickname independently, and the login is assigned by the program during registration.
To find out the required information, you can use another algorithm of actions. To do this, click on your avatar and select the “Skype Profile” option:

Through a friend's profile
You can also find out your address from another user’s account:
- In a friend’s profile, select your account by nickname, right-click on it and in the context menu look for the “View profile” option.
- Scroll down the page and in the “Profile” section we find the required information.
Through directory browsing
This method is recommended to be used only in three cases. Firstly, it is suitable when for some reason Skype does not open and there is no way to view your login from your profile. Secondly, the presented option is applicable if an old version of the program is installed on the PC, since in this case the application creates a separate folder on the hard drive, the name of which fully corresponds to the user login. Thirdly, the method can also be used when it is not possible to look at the address from someone else’s page. The operating rules are very simple:
- Press the Win and R buttons at the same time.
- Enter %APPDATA%\Skype and confirm the action.
- The window that opens will contain a folder named after the user’s login. New versions of Skype store such information on a separate cloud server.

What it is
The user ID is a unique number to initiate it. It is necessary to distinguish between two different IDs that are assigned to one subscriber:
- For calls over the network;
- For calls to landlines and mobile phones.
Both of them perform the same function and are needed in order to distinguish subscribers from each other. Now let's figure out where to look at the Skype ID in both cases.
How to find out someone else's ID
You can determine your contact's personal ID from your computer and phone. To do this, you need:
- Open the application, click on the dialogue with the user. Click on the contact's name at the top of the screen above the conversation.
- A window will open that you need to scroll to the end. The login is located in the “Profile” section. To copy the ID, you need to click on it.
View someone else's login
The instructions look like this:
- Open Skype .
- In the left line above the contact list, enter known information about the person.
- Check out the search results in the directory.
- Typically, your login name will be listed on your profile . You just need to go to the profile you found and view it.

To find a person by ID from a computer, you need to click on the search bar in the upper left corner, from a phone - tap on the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen. Next, you should enter the user’s login, find it in the list that opens, and click on the nickname. A dialog will open where you should “Greet” the subscriber. After he accepts the application, you can begin the dialogue.

To share your personal ID, click on your account photo, go to “Skype Profile”, select “Share Profile”. You can copy the link to your page to the clipboard and send it on a social network or share your profile via email.

To forward a contact's login to another contact, you need to go to the conversation. Click on the user name and find “Share contact” in the list that opens. Mark specific subscribers to whom you need to send a card. Click “Ready” in the upper left corner of the window. In correspondence with tagged contacts, a subscriber’s card will appear, where his avatar, login and link to start a dialogue with him will be placed.
You can find out your personal ID on Skype through your profile or settings. Viewing a contact's ID is available in the dialog by clicking on its name. Currently, you cannot change your Skype login.

If the user is authorized, you can find out your name by checking your profile:
- launch the application. Click on your photo in the center of the top part of the screen, which will be located there only if there is an open “ Chats ” tab at the bottom;
- On the page with the main information in your profile, find the line “ Skype Login ”.
To find out your nickname, you can use your friend's profile:
- find a chat with the person you need or their contact in your address book. Click on it;
- a correspondence screen will appear , where you will need to click on the name located at the very top;
- Scroll down until the “ Profile ” section appears. The name will be written there on the line with the corresponding title.
