Apart from privacy, the features offered by the app itself are important. It is primarily about the general organization of all photographs through criteria that you set yourself. Here you enter the time scale, date or location. Additionally, some may use artificial intelligence to more comprehensively track all the photos you're looking for. This is something that most apps are starting to implement, but it's not something universal, and it's certainly very useful to be able to access all your photos with a simple search.
Checking free space in storage
Find out how much free space is left on your device and in iCloud, and which apps are taking up the most space.
Storing data on the device
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Select "Basic".
- Click "Storage [device]".
You can view storage optimization recommendations, a list of your programs, and the amount of space each one uses.
iCloud data storage
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Click [your name].
- Click iCloud.
You'll see how much free space you have left in iCloud, what apps are using the storage, and whether you need more storage.
Applications
But that is not all! Applications in the iPhone cloud are also saved. Moreover, using iCloud you can manage the data on your phone or tablet. It's very convenient and simple!
How to see what's in iCloud? We've already dealt with photographs. What about applications? To search and view them, you can proceed as follows:
- Look at “Settings” - Apple ID.
- Tap on the “iCloud” sign.
- Click on the “Manage storage” inscription.
It is done! Now you can see what applications are on your phone. To control them, you need to tap on the corresponding lines. After this, a functional menu will appear on the device’s display, in which it is proposed to configure the operation of the selected program.
Save photos and videos to iCloud
On iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, the original, high-resolution versions of photos and videos are stored and take up a lot of space. iCloud Photos gives you more storage on your device and allows you to access your entire collection, no matter where you are.
Get started with iCloud Photos:
- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
- Turn on iCloud Photos.
- Select Optimize Storage to free up more space on your device.
When you use Optimize Storage, smaller versions of your photos and videos are stored on your device, taking up less space, while the original, full-resolution versions are stored in iCloud. As long as you have enough free space in iCloud, you can save as many photos and videos as you want.

Update your photo albums automatically with iCloud
With iCloud Photos, you can store all your photos and videos in iCloud and sync them across all your devices, so you can access your photo album from your Mac, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and even your PC.

Preparation

Turn on iCloud Photos
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos and turn on iCloud Photos.
- On your Mac, go to System Preferences > iCloud > Options (next to Photos) and choose iCloud Photos.
- On Apple TV, go to Settings > Accounts > iCloud > iCloud Photos.
- On a Windows PC, download the iCloud app for Windows, then set up iCloud Photos.
When you turn on iCloud Photos, all the photos and videos you manually synced to your iOS device are overwritten. If those photos and videos are still stored on your Mac or PC, they will appear on your iOS device when iCloud Photos updates your photo album.
If you choose not to turn on iCloud Photos, you can manually sync your photos and videos through Finder on your Mac.

A friend of mine was faced with a situation where the Photos tab was not displayed in iTunes and it was not possible to copy the necessary photos from the computer to the iPhone . The solution here is very simple. You just need to change some settings on the device. We'll talk about this below.
iTunes doesn't have a photo tab.
Before starting to solve this problem, I recommend reading the two previous articles. In one, I described in detail the process of connecting an iPhone to a computer via iTunes, and in the other I wrote about how to transfer photos from a computer via iTunes to an iPhone. If you have read them, you should already be aware that by clicking on the phone icon at the top left, a viewing window for the connected device opens. Having selected the photo item on the left in the settings, synchronization options should have opened on the right. But instead, the message iCloud Photos is turned on . What to do? From the message it is clear that these settings are managed by iCloud on the device itself (in our case, the iPhone). We pick up the phone and check.
Changing settings on your device
Go to the device settings by clicking on the gear icon. Scroll below and click on Photo . Switch the iCloud Photo Library to the left (the color of the slider should change from green to gray), that is, disable this setting. That's all! Now go to iTunes and you will see that there you can set up folders for syncing photos on your computer and device. I already wrote about how to do this in one of the articles mentioned above.

Sync photos manually through Finder
In the Finder app on your Mac, you can sync photos across your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from the Photos app or a folder on your computer. Every time you sync your iOS device through your computer, the photos and videos on that iOS device are updated to match the albums on your computer. If you have photos on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that aren't on your computer, follow these steps to import them.
- Open a Finder window and connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
- The device appears in the sidebar of the Finder window. To select a device, click it.
- If prompted, confirm that you trust your device.
- Go to the Photos tab located under the device information.
- Select the "Sync photos on your device from" checkbox, and then select your Photos folder or other location on your Mac.
- You can choose to sync all photos and albums or only selected albums. You can also sync only photos you've marked as favorites and turn on video sync.
- Click the "Apply" button in the lower right corner of the window. If synchronization does not start automatically, click the Sync button.
Time-lapse and time-lapse videos must be imported using the Photos or Image Capture app in OS X Yosemite or later, otherwise the applied effect will not sync through the Finder. When you use iCloud Photos, the effects of slow-motion and time-lapse videos are preserved.
Live Photos retain their effects when imported into the Photos app in OS X El Capitan and later, but lose them when synced back to your device via your computer. To save Live Photos effects across all your devices, use iCloud Photos.
You can only synchronize your device with the System Photo Album. If you have multiple photo albums on your Mac, make sure the one you want is designated as a system photo album.
Disable Finder Sync
If you no longer need to sync photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, turn off Finder sync and the photos will be removed from your device. Synchronization can be disabled only for some photo albums or for all at once.

When you select the “High Efficiency” camera capture format in the iPhone camera settings, pictures and videos will begin to take up significantly less space without losing quality, but this will cause certain compatibility problems on older Apple devices and unreadability on devices running Android and Windows without installing special utilities. or without converting to a familiar format.
Therefore, many users who constantly share photos and videos and do not want to have compatibility problems still continue to use traditional JPEG for photos and H.264 for videos. As a result, an iPhone with 64 GB of onboard memory quickly runs out of free space. To set up, you need to tap the very first item with the user name in the iPhone settings, go to iCloud and then “Manage storage”, and then select “Change storage plan”.

Now you can free up precious space on your iPhone by properly setting up your iCloud Photo Library. To do this, go to “Settings” - “Photos”. But if we talk about 4K video, then memory is needed many times more.
How to Use Google Photos on iPhone
Almost everyone today has a Gmail account. This is not surprising, because Google services are used not only by users of Android devices, but also by users of Apple gadgets. The cross-platform Google Photos application allows you to free up your gadget's memory by uploading captured photos and videos to the proprietary cloud from Good Corporation. Just like the iCloud library, Google Photos allows you to access your albums on all devices where you are logged into your Gmail account, but unlike the Apple cloud, the Google service is completely free provided that the user uploads:
- photos up to 200 Mb in size and up to 150 megapixels in size;
- videos up to 10 Gb in size;
- objects smaller than 256x256 pixels.
Live Photos and traditional file formats are supported. High efficiency formats (HEIF/HEVC) will require conversion to compatible ones.
Of course, it is possible to download files in original quality, for example, heavy 4K videos, but then the storage of this data will be limited by space in Google Drive storage, which can be expanded by subscribing to Google One. 100 GB of additional space will cost 129 rubles. /month, and 200 Gb is already 229 rubles / month. This is more expensive than Apple's iCloud plans, but in fairness it is worth noting that most users can easily fit their photos into the free service, and today amateur video can be shot in Full HD.
Albums in Google Photos
Functionally, Google Photos allows you to do almost the same thing as iCloud Photo Library. You can create albums, you can share your footage, and you can easily share it using the standard iOS menu.

By default, the application offers sorting photos into the built-in albums “People”, “Places”, “Objects”, “Videos”. The built-in assistant offers to create Collages, Animations and Films from the user's collection. A separate “For You” tab constantly offers recommendations on how to use the application more effectively, for example, sending accumulated screenshots to the archive. Photo search works well. There is even a primitive editor that allows you to apply different filters, adjust the lighting and color scheme of the photo, crop and rotate photos. Although I don’t use these features, I prefer the editing and markup tools built into iOS.

I was also impressed by the application’s integration with Google image search. You can simply tap on the corresponding icon and the photo will become the object of a search for similar images in Google Lens.

To free up space on your iPhone, simply select “Free up space” in the Google Photos menu. The application will delete the photo or video from iCloud Photos, but then you will need to go to the built-in Photos application on the gadget, open the “Albums” tab, and in it go to “Recently Deleted” and here you will finally say goodbye to the files occupying precious megabytes of storage. By the way, pictures deleted in iCloud Photos are automatically deleted forever after 30 days of being added to “Recently Deleted”, and objects in the Google Photos trash can still be restored within 60 days after deletion.

How to use OneDrive on iPhone to store photos
It is no secret that Microsoft has been persistently imposing a subscription model for this very product on users of the most popular office suite in the world for several years. But there is a very tasty bonus: by subscribing to Office 365, the user receives 1 TB of storage from Microsoft, in which, among other things, you can conveniently store photo and video materials. Fortunately, the proprietary OneDrive application for iPhone, as well as the Google Photos discussed above, can upload user-shot material to the cloud in the background, allows the user to create their own Albums and use those offered by default, share materials with other users, and also share objects via standard menu in iOS.

Unlike previous applications, OneDrive does not contain any tools for editing photos and videos, and also imports all photos and videos that come to the gadget not only when saved in Photos, but also from instant messengers, email applications, and iOS Files. This overloads the user's Pictures folder in the Microsoft cloud and creates some chaos in the media library. But in general, importing everything into OneDrive has helped me out more than once when I accidentally deleted a particular photo.
OneDrive also has Personal Vault, protected by Touch ID or Face ID, depending on the iPhone model. And you can safely add very personal information to this secure safe.
