How to use two copies of WhatsApp on a dual SIM phone

Facebook Messenger has been and remains one of the most popular programs for sending instant messages. And not only them: in principle, there are no restrictions on the type of media data transmitted, be it text, audio message, photographs, documents or video files. However, there is no separate fee for sending this data. It is not surprising that among Android smartphone owners alone, the number of WhatsApp users has exceeded one billion.

Of course, the application cannot be called perfect: it also has errors, and in terms of functionality, competitors are trying to be one step ahead. But the messenger is developing, adding new features and gradually getting rid of bugs.

What remains unchanged for now is the impossibility of linking two accounts to one phone, even if there is a technical possibility for this, that is, the smartphone supports two SIM cards. And many users are very annoyed by this drawback.

How WhatsApp works on dual SIM phones

There was a time when mobile phones could only work with one SIM card. With the massive development of cellular communications and the emergence of intense competition in the mobile operator market, the possibility of using two SIM cards on one device seemed like a completely expected step. But the WhatsApp developers did not take this into account - perhaps they were guided by security considerations... One way or another, even today, regardless of the type of smartphone, you can install only one copy of the messenger on it. And if there are two SIM cards (and today even three-SIM models are on sale), the phone owner will have to choose which number to link the application account to. Usually to the one that is used more often.

In most cases, this does not create any inconvenience, but there are situations when it is necessary to differentiate communication. This cannot be done using standard means.

But this does not mean that such a possibility is fundamentally absent. If there is demand, supply will not be long in coming. You can add another account to a second SIM card using special applications from third-party developers and even built-in operating system tools. But it should be noted that these solutions will be different for Android and iOS. Let's look at both options in more detail.

How to install a second WhatsApp on an Android phone

Of course, we can only talk about a second account if we have the first one. If it is available, let's look at all the options on how to make a second WhatsApp on your smartphone.

Built-in Android capabilities

Many operating systems, including Android, have basic protection against uncontrolled duplication of information. Of course, it's difficult to keep track of duplicate user content, but when it comes to installing apps, the OS's capabilities are great. But some versions of the most common mobile operating system still allow you to install a second absolutely identical version of programs. True, this is done using a special function called “Application Cloning” (or “Software Clones”, sometimes you can see the text “Second Space”).

Here is the algorithm for installing the second version of WhatsApp using the MIUI shell of the eighth version of Android:

  • go to the phone settings;
  • go to the “Applications” section;
  • We look for the sub-item “Clone applications” that interests us, click it;

  • A list of software that can be cloned will appear. We find WhatsApp in it and activate the toggle switch, after which the installation of the second version of the messenger on your phone will begin.

As a result, a WhatsApp icon will appear on one of the desktops with a note that this is a duplicate application. We launch it and go through the standard registration procedure indicating the phone number of the second SIM card.

In other versions of Android where this feature is present, it may be located in a different location (for example, in “Accessibility”) - you just need to carefully look for it in the “Settings” of your smartphone.

Installing a second number on WhatsApp using the Parallel Space application

Let's now look at how to create two WhatsApp accounts on one phone using third-party software.

The simplest option, which does not require confirmation or activation of any permissions, is to use the Parallel Space application. It is free and available on Google Play, can clone almost any application and does it equally successfully on all Android smartphones.

In order to install 2 WhatsApp on one phone, you need to follow these steps:

Now you can close Parallel Space, look for the icon of the second copy of WhatsApp on the desktop, launch the messenger and go through the standard registration procedure, indicating as the number for binding the one that belongs to the second SIM card.

How to install WhatsApp on two numbers using the OGWhatsApp application

This app is not available on Google Play, so you need to take some additional steps to install it:

  • select “Security” in the smartphone settings;
  • click on the “Device Management” sub-item;
  • On the page that opens, check the box next to the “Unknown sources” option.

This will allow you to install applications that were not downloaded from the official store. If you have done this before, then, of course, you no longer need to perform this procedure.

IMPORTANT. Carefully choose the source for downloading the apk file - it must be reliable, that is, sufficiently well-known. However, even this does not guarantee that the downloaded application does not contain malicious code.

Now you can start installing the second WhatsApp on Android:

  • go to the smartphone settings, select the “Chat” sub-item;
  • perform backups;
  • launch “Explorer” (depending on the version of Android, it may be called “File Manager” or “File Manager”);
  • find the WhatsApp folder, check the box on the right, tap on the menu (three vertical dots) and select “Rename”;
  • give the folder the name “WhatsApp old”;
  • go to “Settings” again, select the “Applications” sub-item, find WhatsApp and click on the “Clear cache” button, and then on the “Delete” button;
  • in “Explorer” we find the “WhatsAppold” folder and rename it to “OGWhatsApp”;
  • manually install OGWhatsApp, launch the application, register it with the phone number to which WhatsApp was previously linked;
  • download the official version of WhatsApp from the Play Market, install it, link the number from the second SIM card to the messenger.

That is, formally you get two different applications, although in fact OGWhatsApp is the same WhatsApp.

Through the GBWhatsApp program

The principle of operation is the same as in the case of OGWhatsApp, but everything is done much simpler and through the application; you don’t need to rename or delete anything yourself - just download the program, install, run and follow the prompts.

Since GBWhatsApp is also not available on Google Play, you need to download it from trusted sources. The second important point is that after updating the “correct” official version of the messenger, applications like GBWhatsApp may not work - you will have to perform the procedure of linking the second SIM card again.

App Cloner

Another legal utility that allows you to install two WhatsApp on one smartphone by renaming the messenger and changing its digital signature.

The only negative point is that cloning of many popular applications, including WhatsApp, is carried out only by the paid version of the program.

The procedure itself is in many ways similar to the work of Parallel Space:

  • after launching App Cloner, select WhatsApp from the list of applications;

  • in order not to confuse the duplicate messenger with the original, you can change its icon;

  • to start cloning, tap on the round blue button with a check mark;
  • After completing the procedure, click the “Install application” button.

We launch the second WhatsApp and link it to the second SIM card.

Use the DualSpace app

A third alternative would be to use the Dual Space app. The application is positioned as the first application that is fully compatible with the WhatsApp application, guaranteeing the stability of both running versions of WhatsApp on your phone.

To use the application, do the following:

  1. Install the “Dual Space” application on your Android smartphone;
  2. Launch it and agree to the terms;
  3. Allow the application to access the requested data;
  4. Click on the button with a plus sign;
  5. Tap on “WhatsApp” at the top and click on “Clone” at the bottom;
  6. After this, another version of “WhatsApp” will appear in the “DualSpace” window;
  7. Launch a new WhatsApp and log in with the new number.

This is useful to know: why there is one gray tick when sending a message on WhatsApp.

How to install two WhatsApp on iOS

In principle, all iPhone models, with the exception of the XS, are single-SIM, so the problem here is not so acute. But if you are the owner of this particular model, then installing a second WhatsApp on this iPhone is also possible.

Installing WhatsApp Business

This is a completely legal and completely safe way to have two WhatsApp on one smartphone. The second will be a business version, which is no different in functionality from a regular messenger.

But at the same time, WhatsApp Business is considered a different application. All you need to do is download the program and bind to the second number during installation.

To do this, you must ignore the offer to use the registered number by selecting the “Use another number” option. By the way, installing the business version of the application can also be used on Android devices as an alternative to all the options considered.

Through third party software

There are also options using software from third-party developers. Perhaps the most popular is the TuTu Helper utility.

Let's look at how to use it to install two WhatsApp on one iPhone:

  • download the application, install it;

  • after launching TuTu Helper, the program will ask you to download the developer certificate - we agree;

  • go to the smartphone settings;
  • select the sub-item “Basic”;
  • Click on the “Device Management” link;
  • look for the line starting with “Winner Media”, click the “Trust” button;
  • go to TuTu Helper, select WhatsApp++ in the list of applications, click the Get button;

  • After cloning, a WhatsApp duplicate will appear on the iPhone desktop. You need to go to the settings again, to the “Device Management” sub-item and allow the installation of applications from the JiaNaHaiWei company;

  • launch the second version of the messenger and register with a link to the second SIM card.

iPhone

The developers do not provide for the installation of two WhatsApp on Apple smartphones. Therefore, it is worth using third-party applications.

TutuApp

This program is available for download through a browser:

  1. Type the name of the software in any search engine and download it to your device.
  1. Go to the main settings of the device, in the “Device Management” block, find the line “Nippon” and click “Trust”.
  1. Open the TutuApp shortcut in the phone menu and type “WhatsApp Duplicate” in the search bar.
  1. Select “Download for free” and create a new account following the instructions after the download is complete.
