What does the crescent symbol mean?
The crescent symbolizes the beginning of the lunar month according to the Muslim calendar. This reminds us of the story of the hijra (migration) of our Prophet Muhammad from his home to spread Islam and teach the principles of law and virtue.

Moon icon on iPhone - what is it and how to remove it?
Despite the fact that the iPhone interface is recognized as intuitive, sometimes situations arise when the user does not understand where certain symbols on the screen come from and what they mean.
A similar misunderstanding among many is often caused by the crescent (Moon) icon.
We see such an icon in the Control Center (bottom menu of the main screen), and sometimes the same symbol appears opposite messages (for example, if the user unknowingly turned on the mode). What is this, is it the same function in messages and on the main screen, and how to handle it - we will consider all these questions today in our article. We will also give detailed instructions for using the option using the iPhone 8+ as an example.

What does the moon icon on iPhone mean? How to turn it on and off?
The moon icon, which you must have seen many times when you opened the Control Center on the main screen (by swiping up with your finger), is the designation of a very important mode for our comfort called “Do Not Disturb”.
Figure 1. Do Not Disturb mode icon
This option is used to turn off the sounds of calls, messages and other notifications when the iPhone is locked (for example, while you are sleeping and do not want notification sounds to disturb you at night). For more convenient use, we can set certain hours and certain subscribers from whom calls will be allowed.
When Do Not Disturb mode is turned on, a moon (crescent) icon is visible in the status bar.

How to enable or disable this option? There are 2 options.
First:
- open the “Control Center” section, we see an image of the moon.

Long press will allow you to quickly change the settings of this mode.

Second:
- Go to the “Settings” menu, select “Do not disturb”. Set the slider to the active position.

Conveniently, when you set an alarm on the Watch in advance, it will go off even if you later activated Do Not Disturb.
Additionally, you can select options for receiving notifications and calls:
"Sleeping mode"
Here the screen lights up barely noticeably, call sounds are muted. All alerts are shown in the Notification Center.

"Silence"
In this mode, you can choose whether to turn off the alarms always or only when your iPhone is locked.

What does the moon icon mean in messages and what is it for?
Sometimes iPhone users find the moon icon next to dialogs in messages, and they are surprised how it got there and what it means. There is no need to be alarmed, you just need to know that you may have accidentally activated the “Hide Alert” function specifically for this dialog.
Figure 13. What the “Hide Alerts” function looks like in Messages
This means that when someone writes to you specifically from this conversation, you will not receive any notifications about it.
The symbol for this feature looks the same as the aforementioned Do Not Disturb mode. But these are different modes and each has its own specific purpose.
Thus, the “Hide notifications” function is convenient if you do not want to be disturbed by sound in a group conversation, for example.
How to turn it on and off?
First way:
Go to “Messages” and swipe left on the desired dialog. An additional menu appears.

If the feature is not yet activated, we will see the option “Hide alerts”. If you have already accidentally turned it on before, then the opposite option will be visible - “Show alerts”.

Second way:
- We go to Messages, from there - into the desired dialogue.

- Click the “Information” button, then enable or disable “Hide alerts” in it.

conclusions
So, now you and I know what this mysterious crescent symbol is on our iPhones and what it is for. Namely, we understand that Apple offers us two options for silent modes to make using the device more comfortable: for all sounds (calls, messages, notifications) and separately for messages.
Which option is preferable is, of course, up to you to decide. We hope that our detailed illustrated instructions and videos helped you understand the process of setting up options.
We wish you good luck and comfortable organization of your devices!
If a blue, green, or red icon appears on the status bar
On iPhone X and later, the colored indicators appear as a bubble behind the time indicator. On iPhone 8 and earlier models, a color indicator runs along the entire status bar. Here's what each color means:
The iPhone is operating in modem mode,* “Screen mirroring”, or the program is actively using data about your location.
You are talking on the phone.
iPhone records sound or screen.
*Tethering mode on iPhone 8 or earlier also displays the number of devices connected to your hotspot. appears in the status bar of iOS devices when using tethering mode.

Turn Hide Alerts on or off
For any application in general, you can enable the feature to hide notifications. To do this, in “Settings” you need to select the “Notifications” item. In it, you need to select the desired application, which sets the parameters under which notifications will be received: always, under no circumstances, or only on the active screen. In the Notification Allowance section, you can choose how to display notifications.
Apple developers have once again proven their resourcefulness by coming up with such a useful tool as Do Not Disturb mode for busy people. Thanks to him, it became possible not to be distracted by extraneous matters, completely immersing himself in work or enjoying time spent with family or friends.
Where status icons are displayed
Status icons appear in the iPhone's status bar. On iPhone X and later, important icons appear in the top left or top right corner of the screen. If the icon doesn't appear, check Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner.

Choose who receives read receipts for your messages
By default, these notifications are disabled, but in iOS 10 it is now possible to enable this feature for some contacts and leave it inactive for all others.
This feature is useful, for example, if you want your significant other to know when you've read messages from him or her, but at the same time want to hide from your mom the fact that you read her recent tirade.
If you want to enable read receipts for everyone, go to Settings, then Messages, and turn on the Read Receipt checkbox.
To set up notifications for specific people, go to the Messages app, open a conversation with the person you want, and tap the icon with the letter “i” in a circle (the info icon). Find the Read Receipt checkbox and turn it on.
Why is forwarding enabled on iPhone?
Unconditional call forwarding is used when the phone is unexpectedly low on battery, and an important call is about to arrive at the number that its SIM card uses. You can also enable it for work calls, when you are going on vacation and leaving things to a colleague or employee.
