Everywhere and everywhere, on the “box”, on the radio, on the streets, there is advertising all around that everyone is sick of. Someone always wants to sell us all sorts of crap. These vile advertisers have also entered the Internet. You go to the site, and there, something is blinking. something pops up, in general this is familiar to everyone who uses the Internet.
This blog contains advertisements. In my opinion, it should be unobtrusive and not excessive. But this article is for those who don’t want to watch it completely.
Today we will talk about how to radically stop all this bestiality in the Opera browser. There is a wonderful extension for this, like Adblock for Opera , which will make surfing the Internet more enjoyable. By the way, I mainly use the Google Chrome browser, in which Adblock works great.
So, Adblock is an Opera browser extension that automatically blocks ads when you visit any site.
How to enable ad blocking?
Many people may think that setting up and enabling an ad blocker requires significant mental effort, but this is absolutely not the case. To get rid of annoying ads forever:
- Go to the “Menu” tab or press Ctrl-P on your keyboard;
- Select “Personalize blocked sites”;
- Enjoy the result;
It is worth remembering that sometimes an ad blocker can somewhat “distort” (but not change the content of the site), so sometimes it may be necessary to exclude site blocking. If you encounter a similar problem, then create a custom exclusion list to get the desired result.
Deactivating plugins
If you need to disable ad blocking, there are two ways to do this. The first option is to temporarily deactivate the blocker. To do this, right-click on the extension icon and move the “Block ads on this site” slider to the “Off” position.
If the plugin is no longer needed for various reasons, you can delete it. How to do it:
- Click on the Opera menu. Go to the "Extensions" section.
- A list of extensions installed in the browser will be displayed. Find the application and press the cross.
- Confirm deletion.
After uninstallation, the program can be downloaded again, but the user settings will be lost.
Opera Adblock
It is thanks to the varied, tempting and colorful advertising banners and videos that most services and programs on the Internet are freely available to all users of the global network. Various studies have shown that there is a significant slowdown in loading of most search pages due to large format advertising and the location of a potential customer. Leading developers and management from OperaSoftware consider this situation unacceptable. In the newest versions of the Opera browser, the built-in “Opera adblock” function in the settings menu offers an alternative to content imposed by ubiquitous advertisers. After all, the Internet user has the right to make his own choice: whether or not there will be advertising during work or entertainment.
The Opera browser from Opera Software is a pioneer among developers of popular browsers that have integrated adblock for Opera into the basic configuration of their search engine. Experts say that with the “Ad Blocking” function active, the speed of opening pages is 90% higher than when the feature is turned off.
According to experts, the built-in functionality is more effective than third-party examples of various extensions. Elimination of unwanted content occurs by the browser engine. What third-party extensions can't do. Page loading in the Opera browser is 30% faster than its closest competitors with the AdBlock Plus application.
In fact, in recent years, the imposition of advertising has been the main source of irritation among Internet users. During the period 2014-2016, various applications such as AdBlock Plus became popular by more than 40%.

Fighting banners
Banners with advertising can appear even after installing the most powerful extensions and plugins. Why? It's all due to a virus picked up on the Internet. It gets onto the PC and often infects the default web browser, which is why when working with it there are freezes and an endless series of spam/links with dubious offers.
The most malicious files not only infect the computer, but also completely change the name of the browser shortcut. It is impossible to determine such innovations by eye.
If you are bothered by advertising or an incomprehensible Internet resource appears instead of the start page, then it’s time to look into the properties of the Opera shortcut. The securely created shortcut at the end of the path from the start folder has the value “opera.exe”.
The ending exe, in this case, acts as a designation for the executable file that serves to start working with the browser. If instead of the correct option there is a value like “opera.url”, then you have caught a virus. Instead of the standard launch of the main page, you will automatically be taken to a site of scammers who can steal passwords from social networks, online banking, etc.

The problem is solved in just a few clicks. It is enough to rename the fake shortcut or create a new one by going to the root folder of the program. This step will allow you to get rid of going to the attackers’ page, but it cannot ensure that you completely remove the virus. It’s better not to take risks and conduct a full diagnostic of your PC for malware using an antivirus. In order to completely protect yourself from spyware, reinstall Opera.
Important! If your computer is infected with a similar virus, hurry up to change your passwords and protect your personal information from intruders.
Alternative extensions
Adblock is not the only ad blocker for the Opera browser. You can install other plugins:
- Adblock plus Opera. An extended version that is more popular among Opera browser users. More user settings, less load on RAM.
- Adguard. Not detected by sites running Anti-Adblock scripts. Protects against spyware.
- Ublock. Protection against data leakage, low load on the PC, the ability to create your own filters.
All of the above add-ons can be downloaded from our website.
Adblock settings in the Opera browser
To go to the extension settings, in the Opera browser, click on the corresponding red icon. Use LMB and select “Options” from the pop-up menu. You will be redirected to the General section. It will be possible to:
- Allow the display of unobtrusive advertising - static small banners. This will help support resource administration.
- Open additional options for advanced users.
- Activate blocked advertising statistics.
- Activate whitelist for certain Youtube channels. Channels included in the exclusion list will display advertising, which will increase the author's earnings.
To activate all of the above functions, simply check the box next to the appropriate option.
In order for the extension to work correctly in the Opera browser, immediately after installation you should go to “Options”, then to the “Filter Lists” section. Filters are what block advertising. During installation, they are selected and updated automatically, but the starter package includes filters only for popular English-language sites. In order for advertising to be blocked in the Russian segment of the Internet, you need to check the box next to “Russian” in the “Filter Lists” in the “Fanboy” section. Otherwise, the plugin will not understand how to block ads on the site.
