There are several different ways to customize your iPhone's keyboard. But if you want colors other than dark gray and white, you'll need to use third-party apps.
Method 1:
First, you need to bring the keyboard to your iPad. You can use any app for this and we used the mail app.
- Launch the mail app creation screen.
- This will launch the iPad keyboard at its default size, which takes up almost half of the iOS screen.
- “Squeeze” the keyboard with your thumb and forefinger.
- The keyboard will now shrink to almost the size of the iPhone keyboard.
You can move this floating keyboard anywhere you want on your iPad screen. Simply click on the small bar located at the bottom of the keyboard and move it to where you want it. You can return the floating keyboard to its original size. Simply “unfold” the iPad keyboard outward to return to the default keyboard.
Gboard
A keyboard brought to technical perfection from Apple's competitor, Google. Among the advantages is the presence of a button responsible for searching for GIF images and emoji, the ability to enter text without removing your finger from the buttons (that is, drawing the desired combinations directly on the screen), and also access to Google search directly from the keyboard, without additional transitions and settings. Through the search, it’s easy to find images, check information, or understand the weather forecast.
Flexy
Price: Free +
Fleksy is the fastest keyboard in the world, and this is not a subjective assessment, but an experimentally proven fact. A 16-year-old Brazilian boy broke the record by typing a complex 25-word sentence in just 18 seconds. He used Fleksy, which was included in the Guinness Book of Records! In addition, the Fleksy keyboard is interesting because over 4 million dollars of investment were attracted to its development.
The main advantage of Fleksy is that it is not at all necessary to hit the keys when typing - even if in a word of four letters all four are typed incorrectly, the user will get the desired result. It is only important that the number of letters in the word matches and misses on the keys are not very serious.
Fleksy has other advantages:
- More than 40 languages are supported
(including Russian). - The app's customization is flexible
: you can make your iPhone keyboard more beautiful by changing its color, or adjust the size of the keys to increase the usable screen area. - Additional extensions are installed
to make communication fun. You can express yourself using gifs, emoticons (of which there are more than 8 hundred).
The only negative is the difficulty of entering punctuation marks. In order to quickly place signs, you will have to set up gesture controls.
How to move the keyboard sideways?
But if you suddenly switched from Android, you might not have noticed it. What does it consist of? To move the text cursor higher, lower, or sideways, you don't need to tap your finger on the screen between the letters. You just need to hold down the spacebar and, without lifting your finger from the screen, direct the cursor to the desired location.

Setting the default keyboard
Again, everything is done through the keyboard menu under General . As a reminder, you need to choose the following path.
Application Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards
In the Keyboards click Change , move the keyboard you want to use to the top of the list, and click Done to confirm. Now the preferred keyboard appears, for example, every time you log into a messaging application. Of course, you can always go back to standard.
Installing third-party keyboards

Comfortable keyboard for iPhone
I liked the Microsoft keyboard most of all for its functionality.
Microsoft's SwiftKey keyboard is rivaled in usefulness and convenience only by Google's GBoard. It has a large number of settings, including the Haptic Touch vibration response - you must admit, it is sorely lacking in the standard iOS keyboard. In addition, SwiftKey has smart autocorrect, powered by artificial intelligence - the program remembers your typing style and typing habits, thanks to which it copes with errors much better than its analogues.
There is also typing by swiping in both English and Russian. There are some cool themes to choose from that make your average keyboard look a lot more interesting. Microsoft SwiftKey supports over 90 languages, plus animated GIFs so you don't have to search for them.

Google Keyboard for iPhone
One of the most popular third-party keyboards for iPhone is Gboard
Many Android users, when switching to iOS, cannot get used to the standard iPhone keyboard for a long time and simply change it to Gboard . The new owners can understand: the Google keyboard is really convenient not only for the iPhone, but also for the iPad. Thanks to integration with Google, you can search for the necessary files on the Internet without going into the browser. There are all the necessary gestures: swipe input, handwriting input. In addition, you can create your own GIFs or stickers. Be sure to try GBoard!

Functional Features
iPad keyboard split
The split keyboard function appeared on the iPad quite a long time ago; this was done, of course, for our convenience. The ability to type with both hands at the same time while holding the device “in weight” is really cool. However, not everyone knows how to get everything back.
To combine, just swipe with two fingers as shown in the figure. With your gesture you connect two parts into one. All!
How to change the keyboard?
With the advent of iOS 8, developers were given the opportunity to write their own applications for entering information on the iPhone and iPad. Which, of course, they did not fail to take advantage of. The App Store (either official or not) offers a fairly large number of different keyboards, including those with the Swype function.
The most common ones include:
- SwiftKey.
- Swipe.
Both know Russian and support the method of entering text without lifting your finger from the screen. What else do you need?
Installing an alternative keyboard is quite simple - download the application, and then go to the main settings - keyboard. And here you put the one you need.
Changing layout
The “globe” icon on the keyboard is responsible for this action. Short press and the input language is changed. But, as always, it happens that this very icon is missing.
This means that you only have one language installed for printing text. You can add different languages by going to settings - general - keyboard.
That’s probably all the questions regarding the on-screen method of entering information on the iPad and iPhone. If this is not the case and the author forgot something, feel free to ask in the comments.
PS Click on the social networking buttons at the bottom of the article and you will feel how your typing speed increases with every “like”! :)
General questions and problems
The keyboard has disappeared on the iPhone (or on the iPad)
The reason for the keyboard not appearing can be either a not very correct flashing of the device or the use of any tweaks (if jailbreak is installed).
There are several options to correct this misunderstanding:
- The simplest one is to reboot your device.
- More difficult - reset the settings.
- Even more difficult - do a full reset. Don't forget about backup (using a computer or cloud) and subsequent recovery.
- Long (but most effective) - install the latest software (firmware), even if you already have the latest software. Just update again.
Keyboard doesn't work
It is important to understand whether the display does not process clicks or the text input function simply does not function. To do this, launch any application and try to “poke” the screen.
Depending on the result, we do the following:
- If there are problems with the display, contact the service center.
- If everything is fine with the screen, then the tips from the previous paragraph will help.
Minuum
Price: 299 rub. +
At the moment of entering text, the “useful” screen area is reduced by almost half - this is exactly what the developers of the Minuum application noticed. The problem was solved in a rather original way: the keyboard was simply “flattened” vertically. Minuum is a strip with a minimum number of buttons, each of which contains 3 letters (for example, the first button is Q, A and Z). This keyboard for iOS takes up no more than a quarter of the screen.
An Apple user may have doubts: is it possible to type correctly and quickly with this arrangement of letters? It turned out that the lack of information about the vertical arrangement of letters is easily compensated for by dictionaries and recognition algorithms, the presence of which any gadget can now boast of. If you need precise data input (for example, a URL), it is very easy to change the keys to a standard appearance by swiping your finger from bottom to top. As for the printing speed, it, on the contrary, increases, and quite significantly.
However, Minuum has a couple of disadvantages:
- For users with thick fingers, installing such a keyboard is contraindicated.
- Minuum is quite expensive: you can download the keyboard for 299 rubles.

Switch between keyboards
Since there's been talk about switching keyboards, it's worth taking a closer look at how to do it. The following explanation assumes that you have installed more than one built-in or third-party keyboard.
So, access your keyboard from any app and hold the globe icon. Now that Apple has moved away from force clicking, lightly tapping an icon should be enough. A small window will appear and simply click on the keyboard name to select it. This is also where you can turn predictive text off or on.
touchpal
An iPhone keyboard that predicts the entered text, automatically corrects added words and corrects errors. Also, the Touchpal application provides gesture input, emoji are available, and a panel is open on which you can draw and share the resulting work with friends. Separately, the developers suggest using text templates with emoticons. Just a second, and you won’t have to look for brackets and dots anymore.
