Automatic memory clearing
Owners of Android smartphones began to complain about problems with files disappearing on their devices. When you try to move any information downloaded from the Internet from the Download folder to any other folder in the smartphone’s memory, it simply disappears and cannot be restored.
Users of the Reddit resource encountered this problem - a participant under the pseudonym Sudofox created a topic on February 1, 2022, and at the time of publication of the material it had collected more than . Participants in the dialogue complained that this happens in various browsers, including Brave and the mobile version of Firefox.
There are also similar threads on the Google technical support forum - one of them is dated April 2022 and contains more than 50 replies. Android glitches occur on various devices, the author of a topic almost two years ago, Gokhun Guneyhan, complained about similar problems in his Google Pixel 2. More recent smartphone models were also affected by the bug - owners of the Samsung Galaxy S10, the 2022 flagship, joined in the discussion of the current situation.
Wallpapers have appeared on the Internet that disable Android smartphones
Do not place them on the background under any circumstances.
There have been many reports on the Internet about a background image that “breaks” Android smartphones. At first glance, this is a completely ordinary picture, which, when installed on the desktop, disables the gadget - the screen begins to constantly turn on and off, and even a reboot does not help. Here's how it happens.
The picture was shared by authoritative insider Ice Universe, who warned users against using it as desktop wallpaper. This is especially true for owners of Samsung devices, although the problem also occurs on models from other manufacturers, including Nokia, Xiaomi and OnePlus.
Specialists from the 9to5Google portal conducted several tests with this image and came to the conclusion that the picture does not contain a virus - it’s all about its color scheme. By default, the Android operating system is configured to display sRGB colors, but the picture uses the RGB gamma. And while Android 11 automatically converts unsupported color spaces, Android 10 does not provide this. That is why on devices with a fresh OS the picture is installed on the background without problems. It turns out that any other images in the RGB gamma can “break” a smartphone.
You can neutralize the picture by any editing - just make some changes and resave it. If you have already set an RGB image as the background and are faced with the problem of the screen turning on randomly, then you need to delete the image file by booting into safe mode, or reset the device to factory settings.
Reason established
Sudofox was able to figure out why Android periodically loses files when moving from one folder to another. The problem, as he noted on the Google forum, is hidden directly in the download manager of this mobile OS.
According to Sudofox, the Android download manager has a feature called cleanOrphans. Due to it, absolutely any file initially saved in “Downloads” is marked by the manager as “lost”, and after the smartphone goes into standby mode (after the screen turns off), such files are automatically deleted.
New Android bug deletes user files
Despite Google's desire to make the Android mobile operating system as stable and functional as possible, from time to time defects are discovered in it that can cause a lot of discomfort to users. Another such bug affected the Android 9 OS, and it is associated with the arbitrary deletion of files downloaded to the device.
By default, files downloaded on Android smartphones end up in the “Downloads” folder. But a report published by one Android 9 user at the end of January indicated that if you try to move downloaded files and images to another folder, the system may permanently delete them. This happens after the device is put into standby mode.
The error also occurs if the Downloads folder is renamed. It is noted that the organization of downloaded files on Android 9 is now extremely unstable, and therefore third-party developers advise against copying documents and photos from the “Downloads” folder to other directories. If the downloaded files are important, it is advisable to transfer them to cloud storage or copy them to a computer or laptop.
Google has not yet commented on the situation with this bug.
Which devices are affected?
A complete list of Android gadgets that can “lose” files when moving them from “Downloads” to another folder did not exist at the time of publication of the material. Owners of gadgets from various manufacturers, with and without a pre-installed proprietary shell, complained about the problem.
Replies to topics on Google forums include comments from owners of the HTC U11, Motorola G6, Nokia 7.1, and even the Google Nexus 6P, released in September 2015. The owner of the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone under the pseudonym Teresa Chapman noted that when transferring information from her old Galaxy S7 She lost 5,000 photos on her new smartphone.
At the same time, other Pixel 2 and 2XL owners reported that they did not encounter a similar problem. Reddit user MishaalRahman tried to reproduce it on the Pixel 4 and it didn't work.
Losing files in other OS
Users may lose information not only on Android smartphones, but also on PCs running Windows 10. In October 2022, Microsoft released the October Update 2018 for this OS, the installation of which led to the permanent deletion of user files on some computers. The contents of Windows 10 libraries were destroyed, including documents, images, video and audio files. If the user did not bother to create a backup copy before performing an OS update, this data could be lost forever.
A few days later, the head of the Windows Insider program, Dona Sarkar, tweeted that the company's technical support service has tools to recover files deleted during the installation of the October Update 2018. To restore, you supposedly just need to call the support line, but most helpline operators They didn’t even know what instruments we were talking about.

Can Huawei smartphones independently delete files from the phone?
It's no secret that US authorities suspect Huawei of espionage, which is why they warn consumers against buying the company's smartphones. Of course, it is obvious that we are talking about a trade war between the US and China, Huawei is a major player, it has become a victim of this confrontation. But is there smoke without fire? Reddit users are trying to answer this question by sharing interesting news about a Chinese user of a Huawei smartphone. He stated that the phone itself deleted a photo of the dog that it had previously downloaded from Twitter. Let's look into the situation.
Many immediately began to assume that Huawei was using various means to control users by bypassing Android security; in reality, everything is a little different. The fact is that Twitter is banned in China, which is why, most likely, the smartphone independently deleted the photo, assuming that it was downloaded through a service that was illegal in the country - everything is logical.
How to recover deleted audio files on Android
Losing an important audio file on your phone, be it a favorite song, a recording of an important conversation, or a voice message from a loved one, is not the most pleasant situation for any user. The reasons can be very varied: as accidental, when the deletion of an audio recording occurs as a result of a software failure, formatting a memory card, resetting the phone to factory settings, the action of malware, interruption of the process of transferring files to a PC, or simply pressing the “Delete” button by mistake; and deliberate, when the user himself deletes a file and subsequently realizes that he would like to return it. In any case, recovering deleted audio recordings (or audio recordings) becomes a task of paramount importance. In this article, we have selected for you the best ways to restore an audio file on an Android phone, focusing on the “quality-speed” criterion.
Method 1. Preventive. Recovering audio files from the Recycle Bin
Although the Recycle Bin app is not installed by default on Android phones, users can download Dumpster from the app store, which performs similar functions and allows you to move files to temporary storage when you delete files from your phone. This way, if the need arises to restore files, the entire process will be quick and simple. However, please note that this method will only work if you installed this application on your smartphone before deleting the audio files. So, provided that you have downloaded and installed the Dumpster application on your Android phone, and then deleted the audio file you need, you can easily restore it by following these steps.
Solving the problem with files on the memory card
October 05, 2012
Author: Maxim
So, good afternoon, dear readers of the Fans-Android website. In this article I will try to tell you how to deal with the problems of files and folders disappearing from a memory card and what to do if different audio and video players partially do not see the files recorded on the memory card.
Let's first look at the LOST.DIR folder - why is it filling up? This directive is created when Android launches File System ChecK (analogous to Windows Chkdsk) and searches for lost file chains.
These files appear if you remove the memory card at the moment when something is being written to it. After all, Windows tries to record files when using the caching mechanism. When you unplug the cable, the contents of the cache will not have time to successfully appear on the disk and these files are considered no longer complete. After the device is disconnected from the computer, Android launches scanned cards and detects such “broken” files, and after that they are automatically moved to the LOST.DIR folder.
Now let's start looking at the issue from a practical point of view. First of all, so that you do not have such problems, you should always select “Safely Remove” before disconnecting the device from the computer, and then in the device itself, “Disconnect USB drive” (the name may differ slightly, depending on the model and firmware of the device).
In addition, it is worth regularly checking the memory card using the ScanDisk application - after all, the problem may lie in the memory card itself. Try formatting it and, following the advice above, write files to it.
How to format?
- To completely format the card on your phone, you will need to follow the path: Menu-Settings-Memory-Disconnect memory card (Remove card)-Empty card-Connect SD card (names may vary slightly depending on the phone model).
- Also, there is an option to format using a computer with a choice of different cluster sizes.
- Format using a special application SD Formatter or Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool. This is the so-called “low-level” formatting.
You can also try changing the cache on the memory card using the application® SD Speed Increase. If formatting does not help, then you should try replacing the card with another option. There is also a situation when the files you recorded are visible on the computer, but they are not displayed on the device. In this case, check if there is a .nomedia file in the folder in which they were recorded. If there is one, remove it immediately.
If files that were written there disappear from your memory card
- We noticed that some of the files may be missing due to installed applications. Try uninstalling the last installed programs, after which you noticed this problem.
- There is a solution to the problem using the QuickPic gallery. In the menu, select “show hidden folders” - the thumbnails folder, which may contain missing photos and video files.
- If none of the proposed methods helped you, try resetting to factory settings - this may help identify whether the problem was in the program or in the firmware - which is also quite likely.
- Try updating the firmware version.
If your music player doesn't see most audio files
- Try looking at the length of the file name, and whether it contains any symbols (punctuation marks, etc.). If the names are too long, try shortening them. In some cases this procedure has been useful.
- If there are a large number of files and they are all located in one folder, then most of them may not be displayed. Try to distribute them into several folders, approximately equally.
- Go to Settings - Applications - Application management - Applications, find the “Media storage” item and select “Clear data”.
- If you use a standard player, then try installing any of the third-party custom application catalogs on your smartphone.
- Also, formatting the memory card often helps solve this problem.
Method 2. Using a PC. Recovering Audio Files Using UltData for Android
If the Recycle Bin program was not initially installed on your device, to recover files you will have to turn to specialized programs designed specifically for such cases. On the Internet you can find a large number of different utilities, both paid and free, which differ from each other in the time spent on file recovery, ease of use of the program, and, of course, degree of effectiveness. One of the programs that has shown high results in all these categories is the UltData for Android utility from the developer Tenorshare. The program recovers any type of data, including audio recordings, on any Android device. It is quite easy to understand, and the program itself provides useful tips and recommendations during the process. And the effectiveness is confirmed by numerous user reviews. You can learn a little more about this program from the brief overview presented below.
So, below is a user guide for using the program to recover deleted audio files on Android.
Download the program from its website and install it on your computer. Launch the program and select "Recover Lost Data from Android".
Connect your Android device to your computer using a USB cable. Enable USB debugging on your Android device.
The program will ask what you want to restore. Check the "Audio" box and click "Get Started" at the bottom.
On the scan results screen, click "Videos" on the left, select the Audio you want to recover, and then click "Recover" at the bottom.
Method 3. On the phone. Recovering Audio Files Using Rooted Apps
You can also recover deleted audio files on the phone itself using special programs. Among the most popular, we can list such applications as Disk Digger, Restoration, Undeleter, GT Recovery, EASEUS Mobisaver, etc. The disadvantage of this method is that the owner of Android must have root rights, i.e. access to the main administrator account. There are, of course, versions of these programs that may not require root access, but the functionality of such versions may be severely limited. You can also obtain Root rights using special programs, for example, KingoRoot, but you must take into account that in this case you will lose the factory warranty for your smartphone. The programs we have listed are mostly free and can be downloaded from the Google Play Market, although there are also paid versions with advanced features. All such programs have approximately the same algorithm for file recovery, so you can install any application you like and proceed by analogy.
So, in this article you can find three effective ways to recover deleted audio files on Android in any situation: if you have a “Trash” on your smartphone or if you don’t have one, using a PC or on the phone itself. However, we should not forget about the importance of taking preventive measures: periodically copying data to external media or cloud storage, creating a backup copy of device data, and carefully selecting files to be deleted.
