SIG file - create, sign, check and view the digital signature document

There are many file formats, not just txt or something similar. So, the most basic users do not know the extensions bin, sig and many others. But the time comes when you need to open and read a document of a previously unknown format. Now we will look at the sig format.

How to open a SIG file on your computer

SIG Briefs

SIG (Signature File) is a text file with an electronic signature required to confirm personal information. Documentation with electronic printing is divided into 4 categories:

  • Graphic – used in multimedia materials;
  • Digital – such files act as an alternative to manual signature. Used in commercial sites;
  • Braille is a special font that is used to create documents;
  • Postal – materials containing packages of personal data.

What files can be downloaded and uploaded on the State Services portal

On the official State Services page you can download four types of signatures:

  • graphic – this type is used for photographs, graphs and other visual materials;
  • braille;
  • postal – has contact information;
  • digital – used when drawing up electronic contracts, for remote receipt of government services, e-commerce, etc. (the main purpose is an analogue of a real signature, confirming the authenticity of the document).

How to open a file with the sig extension

Many users are interested in the question of how and how to open a SIG file from Rosreestr. Firstly, the opening method depends on the content and category of the document. The material displays personal information about a specific person, which allows you to confirm your identity. As a rule, to open sig you need to use programs, email services and other online resources. For example, the following options can be given:

  • Outlook 2016. A resource that provides shared access to a database on a paid basis;
  • Qualcomm Eudora. A resource for interacting with text and graphic information;
  • Outlook Express. A lightweight version of the standard Microsoft client.

Via PC

On a computer with the Windows operating system, you can use any of the above methods. However, to work with digital signatures, you must first install special software. You can download two programs on the Internet – Crypto Pro and CryptoARM.

Finally

Curious users are, of course, recommended to look through Notepad to see what a *.sig file is, but in reality it is not as interesting as it might seem at first. This is an auxiliary file and does not provide any information to the recipient of the letter.

Method for opening sig files

To open a file with the extension in question, you need to use the Rosreestr website. The user can also check the authenticity of electronically signed documentation.

It is worth noting that this service checks not only the sig extension. To begin the procedure, you must use the following methods.

Notebook

The standard operating system tool allows you to work with all text materials. This is done according to the following instructions:

  • Launch notepad. You can do this using the command line or call the context menu with the right mouse button;
  • In the control panel, select the “Open” command;
  • Go to the folder with the saved document;
  • Decide on the material, after which text information will be displayed in the notepad.

Healthy! Using this method, you can edit the content. However, please note that the information will not be displayed correctly in all cases.

Website rosreestr

Another effective way to view and edit sig files is to use the rosreestr.gov.ru service. It is worth noting that using this resource you can work with documents in xml format. What should be done:

  • Go to the Rosreestr desktop

CryptoARM

A reliable utility for interacting with digital signature documents. However, to use the built-in tools, the user will need to purchase a paid version of the software. There is also a free version for two weeks. What should be done:

  • Go to the website, download and install the program;
  • Activate CryptoArm;
  • Go to the folder with sig material;
  • Upload the file with digital signature to the working area of the program;
  • All important information about the file can be found in the signature tree section.

Important! This program contains tools for editing documents.

General information about types of digital signatures

Depending on the attachment method, there are 3 digital signature formats:

  1. Joined. It is part of the signed business paper and is located in a special container. A file endorsed in this way can only be opened using special software. It is worth noting that if you try to edit the text of a signed document, the digital signature will be automatically deleted.
  2. Disconnected. In this case, the signature file is saved separately (.sig) and contains not only the open certificate, but also metadata that goes to the signed document.
  3. Integrated. The digital signature in this case is an integral part of the document. Once the paper is approved in this format, the opportunity to make adjustments to it disappears.

Often, an integrated digital signature is used for business papers created in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.

To open documents signed in this way, you should use the same program in which it was created, and a certification authority (CA) certificate must be installed in the system.

This is an overview of the types of electronic signatures you should know. Thus, the main difference between an attached and unattached EV is the location of the EV itself (in the document or separately).

Both types of CPU contain the same information - the key of the signature owner and information about him, as well as the meta tag of the endorsed paper.

Considering the legal aspect, we can safely say that all 3 types of digital signatures are endowed with equal legal force.

Thus, everyone can choose the look that is comfortable for themselves. For example, if the owner of a PC that does not have special software installed (Crypto PRO CSP) needs to review the signed document, then preference should be given to a disconnected CPU.

Important! To view documents signed with an attached or integrated digital signature, a cryptographic encryption tool must be installed on the computer.

How to open a SIG file using programs

To interact with materials, the user can use standard OS tools or highly specialized applications. You can also use Microsoft Office OutLook, but in this case the user will not be provided with tools for editing files.

To ensure the expected result, it is better to use the paid package of the Cryptoarm program. Then the license holder will be able not only to view, but also to correct documents at his own discretion.

For each of the utilities there are standard instructions for opening a document:

  • Find file;
  • Call the context menu;
  • Select the “Open with” command;
  • In the list that appears, select one of the above programs;
  • Check the file for integrity;
  • Click on the save button.

Attention! The only software with which you can fully edit a document is Microsoft Outlook.

.SIG File Association 3

Braille graphics are saved in the QuickTac Alternative Graphic format and created by QuickTac, a program used to emboss graphics as tactile graphics; stores a braille drawing that can include shapes, lines, and text. Additional Information

A SIG file is similar to a .BMP file and is designed to be imported into other programs such as Duxbury Braille Translator and Duxbury MegaDots to augment text. You can import the file into a Duxbury .DXB file using the Duxbury Braille Translator. Once a SIG file is imported into a Duxbury document, it can no longer be edited.

SIG on MacOS: Eudora and Mozilla Thunderbird

The Internet recommends using the QUALCOMM Eudora e-mail client for MacOS. The latest version of the program is listed as Eudora 8, optimized for Mac OS X 10.4 and higher.

When you try to go to the developer’s website www.eudora.com, you are redirected to the website of the Computer History Museum. For those who really really need it, in the article The Eudora™ Email Client Source Code you can find the source code of the email client and try to install it.

It is strictly not recommended to try to download the client from dozens of sites that appear in Google results when asking for the name of the program - not a single reliable source for downloading specific software could be found there.

  1. Mozilla Thunderbird is the first free and still supported program suitable for working with sig files. This is a free, convenient and functional e-mail client that opens letters with digital signature. Mozilla Thunderbird is a cross-platform program that works correctly on almost any device, including various versions of MacOS.

In addition to these methods, documents can be viewed online on the Rosreestr website. It works well on the Mac's built-in Safari browser. If desired, you can use any other browser (Chrome, Yandex, Opera, Mozilla).

Format features

There are several formats of digital signatures in email documents:

  • SIG/XML. If the user needs to make some adjustments in addition to viewing, the file will need to be uploaded using multiple fields. The Rosreestr website provides two lines for downloading sig and xml;
  • Separately XML. When uploading a file with xml format, the user will not be able to parse the signature;
  • Separately, SIG. After uploading to the State Services website, the user will see a document with the ability to verify an electronic signature.

If you don't want to install a new program

Good old Notepad comes to the rescue - with this program, if desired, you can even open a picture (though its text encoding is unlikely to be to anyone’s taste), let alone a *.sig text file.

How to open anything for free? Notepad, of course! So digital signature files are opened, created, and edited through it. In the last two cases, the main thing is not to forget to enter the name of the corresponding extension after the file name when saving.

SIG format signatures - what are they?

The electronic document format has several design options:

  • Detached electronic digital signature;
  • Attached electronic digital signature.

Detached digital signature in sig format

During the process of creating a detached digital signature, the signed file is not changed, but another sig signature file is created. The key feature is the fact that the user can parse the detached signature. In this case, you do not have to resort to means of cryptographic information protection.

However, disconnected digital signatures have a significant drawback. The user must store the file in several extensions at the same time. This creates some difficulties when applying signatures. For example, in this case you will have to constantly send a document in several formats at once.

Attached digital signature in sig format

In this case, everything is much simpler. When creating an attached digital signature, a new document with an electronic signature is developed. During the process, information from the file being signed is integrated into it. This procedure is reminiscent of placing a document in an envelope and then sealing it.

It is very important that before sending the user double-checks the correct implementation of electronic printing. The main advantage is the ease of working with signed information. That is, the owner of the document will store all signatures in one file. This approach will allow you to send, copy or download a document to any device that has a reader. The only drawback is that without means of cryptographic information protection it will not be possible to work with the contents of the file. It is worth noting that sig files with an attached digital signature are in great demand on almost all government service websites and commercial resources.
