How to fix Samsung Galaxy Buds wireless headphones yourself

At the time of the official announcement of the new flagship Samsung Galaxy S10, almost all the public’s attention was focused exclusively on the smartphone. However, at the Unpacked event in San Francisco, the South Korean company presented another product: Galaxy Buds wireless headphones, which were even given free to the first users who pre-ordered the Galaxy S10 or S10+. But with the new wireless “ears” everything is not so smooth, and some users began to complain about a variety of problems. And today we will show you how you can repair new Bluetooth headphones yourself.

I would like to immediately draw your attention to the fact that we do not recommend “opening” the case and carrying out other manipulations with the internal elements of the gadget. All solutions are purely software in nature and if they do not help you, feel free to contact the Samsung service center or wait for a software update.

Audio desync when working with non-Samsung devices

Some users complain about problems when pairing with smartphones not from Samsung itself. One of The Verge's writers, for example, said that the headphones have problems with audio lag when connecting the device to an iPhone or other devices that don't support Samsung's proprietary Bluetooth codec.

Workaround: Use the AAC audio codec on your Android device (if supported). You will need to enable developer mode for this. Go to “Settings” - “About this device” - “Software information”. Here, find the build number and click on it several times. After unlocking Developer Options, go back to the Settings page and click on Developer Options. Go to the Network category and click on the Bluetooth audio codec. Check if your device has the AAC audio codec, if so, select AAC and try pairing the Galaxy Buds with your smartphone again.

Headphone pairing problem

It's worth noting that almost all Bluetooth devices have pairing problems from time to time and the Galaxy Buds are no exception.

Solutions: Delete the Bluetooth profile for Galaxy Buds from your smartphone and try pairing with the device again. To do this, go to the “Settings” - “Connections” - “Bluetooth” section. You can also try connecting the Galaxy Buds to any other smartphone to make sure that the problem is with the headphones. In addition, you can try resetting the network settings on your Android smartphone.

Cleaning headphones: 2 simple ways

Since retailers and manufacturers are on the defensive, let's try to fix everything ourselves. How to clean wax from vacuum headphones? The cleaning method depends on the size of the mesh and the possibility of its removal. In the same Apple AirPods, the mesh is quite large, but in any earplugs it is small.

Method 1, without disassembly

You will need a cotton swab and hydrogen peroxide (or alcohol). We wet the stick, squeeze it thoroughly and try to clean the mesh from the outside. Do not overdo it with liquid so as not to accidentally pour it into the device. You can go through the holes with a toothpick, just try not to push the dirt in, but to pull it out.

Method 2, with disassembly

The first method does not always help: it is difficult to remove dirt from tiny holes with a stick and a toothpick. For example, we couldn’t do this with our Huawei FreeBuds. Then you can take drastic measures: try to remove the mesh. To do this you need as thin a pin as possible.

Remove the rubber nozzle, take a pin and carefully pry it behind the hole closer to the edge of the mesh. Now we are trying to pull the mesh out. Here you have to be very careful, otherwise the net may fly out in a direction only known to it, and it is unlikely that you will be able to find such a tiny object. See how it's done.

For us, the grid came out easily, because this was not the first take of shooting - you will most likely have a more difficult time. After the mesh is removed, all that remains is to clean it with a toothpick and the same stick with alcohol.

Automatic shutdown

One Reddit user noticed that sometimes one of his Galaxy Buds turns off on its own, even though the battery charge is fine. The user came to the conclusion that this was some kind of software glitch, but it was still possible to deal with it.

Solutions: Place the headphones in the case and wait until both headphones are fully charged. You can also pair your device again. This software glitch (like most others) will most likely be resolved in the near future in an update.

If one Galaxy Buds stops working and won't charge

An issue that sometimes occurs with these headphones is that the right or left earbud stops charging. Accordingly, it is completely discharged and does not work. Only one Samsung earphone connects and works. Also, the left or right earbud is not displayed in the Galaxy Wearable application. He's just inactive there.

When we put this earphone in the case, the indicator on the case lights up red for a few seconds (charging in progress), and then immediately lights up green (the earphone is charged), but it is not charging.

Most likely this is due to the fact that the earphone was completely discharged and now it cannot start. Goes into deep sleep mode. It can't get charged. It needs to be started. I found one solution on the Internet, which, judging by the reviews, works great. Now I will show you what to do in such a situation.

The solution may seem strange, difficult and even boring to you. But it works!

Viruses on the device

Viruses can significantly affect the operation of the system, causing the infection of programs and individual elements of the system. If you checked your smartphone and headphones according to all the above criteria and did not find any problems, the reason may be hidden in malware. Run an antivirus program and scan your smartphone for viruses. Quarantine or delete the found files. After this, restart the system and try connecting the device. If this does not help, let's move on to the most radical step.

Over-ear headphones, full-size and with cord

In addition to completely wireless headphones, there are models whose parts are connected by a cord and even a headband. They take up more space and are not as comfortable compared to TWS. But they also have several important advantages.

The battery of such devices lasts for a longer period of operation, and figuring out how to charge Bluetooth headphones without a charger is much easier. Charging is performed using a cable, which is connected on one side to the corresponding headphone jack, and the other to the power source.

  • Accessories

    Choosing inexpensive TWS headphones: 6 worthy models

For charging, the headset can be connected to a computer, laptop, car adapter, and even a network charger, the output voltage of which is 5 V. Power banks with the appropriate characteristics are also suitable as a power source - for example, standard inexpensive and compact external batteries that charge smartphones .

Main causes and solutions to the problem

Almost everyone uses headphones. This convenient device helps you immerse yourself in your favorite music anywhere, watch a movie on a long trip, or browse social networks in transport without disturbing anyone around you. Broken headphones can pretty much ruin your plans and mood. Most often, breakdown occurs due to the following factors:

  1. Headphone jack is broken.
  2. Damage to the gadget plug, wires or speakers themselves.
  3. A failure in the program or the system as a whole.
  4. Device incompatibility (for wireless accessories).

Fortunately, many causes of failure are easily eliminated. Our simple tips will help you bring your favorite accessory back to life and once again enjoy the opportunity to listen to what you want.

Galaxy Wearable Program

When I opened the case next to the Galaxy Fold 2, the prompt to connect headphones immediately appeared, then the Galaxy Wearable program began downloading. I won’t torment you with a description of each function, I’ll tell you about the important ones.

Turn on Voice Detection right away - at least it's definitely worth a try. With this feature, the headphones automatically turn off noise cancellation and lower the music volume the moment you start talking to someone.

Don't forget to download the update for the headphones - one arrived during use, and it will also be available at the beginning of sales.

A quick connection to headphones is also useful; it is activated in the “Advanced” tab. Well, when you start listening to music, try to choose an equalizer to your taste, there is such a section here too.

Working hours

The stated operating time is up to 5 hours with the noise reduction system turned on and 8 hours with ANC turned off; for five minutes of charging in the case we get an hour of playback. Accordingly, the case gives from 13 to 20 hours additionally. In real life, you simply forget about charging: you listened to it on the way to work, put it in your case, in the office you threw the case on wireless charging, took it out, listened to music, put it away again. Considering that many people do not use ANC all the time, you can safely count on at least 6-7 hours of battery life.

Verdict

The retail price of the headphones will be 17,990 rubles.

I liked the sound quality, the quality of speech transmission, the implementation of the noise reduction system, and the automatic activation of transparency mode when you start speaking. The application is convenient, the operating time is optimal, the correct set of codecs, ideal behavior in games, movies, when watching streaming video, be it Netflix or YouTube. The only recommendation is to try it on when purchasing. For the rest, I strongly recommend it.

Well, as you already understand, these are one of the first Samsung headphones designed for “their” audience, Galaxy owners of all stripes - here you have auto-switching, your own application, experimental modes, and there are probably many more interesting features to come. Will wait!

Samsung smartphone does not recognize wired headphones:

From time to time, all smartphones suffer from sound problems in headphones, both the well-known standard of stability Samsung and relatively young brands from China: Xiaomi, Meizu, Honor, Huawei. Any Android phone has almost equal risks of having a problem.

It is impossible to say in absentia why the headphones do not connect to the phone; specifics are possible only after a complete diagnosis of the device. To make it easier to navigate the possible causes of the problem and ways to fix it, we divided them into two large groups.

Hardware failure

Typically, such problems are difficult to correct manually, since the problem is in the physical condition of the phone or components. Quite often, the phone refuses to connect to the headphones due to careless use of the smartphone. Falls, moisture, frequent use of the gadget with dirty hands - all this falls under negligence. The only case when it is possible to quickly and easily restore the functionality of the port is if it was contaminated. An ordinary cotton swab, needle or match works well to remove accumulated debris.

Other reasons why headphones on your phone do not work:

  • The headset is not compatible with the phone. Some manufacturers follow the shady path of increasing sales of their own accessories. They simply change the positive contact and ground. This leads to the fact that only branded headphones work on the smartphone. Most headphones from Aliexpress and other stores do not work in this option;

  • There is no contact at the 3.5mm port. Contact can be prevented by dirt, dust, debris, splinters of wood, glass, etc. The worst thing is if the problem is caused by water, because this can lead to malfunctions of other components of the smartphone. Another cause could be simple damage to the nest. Cleaning, restoring contacts or replacing the port should help;

  • The audio codec has failed - this is a small chip that converts an analogue to a digital signal, and also does the same in the opposite direction. You can check the problem with the microcircuit by the fact that not only the headphones stop working, but also the speakers, microphone, and communication. If the problem appeared after a fall, most likely the problem is with the audio codec;
  • Headset failure. The contact of the wire near the plug often disappears. Interruption, strong bending, or pressure on the cable can lead to breakage. You'll have to change the cord or buy new headphones, at least it's better than having your phone repaired.

Problems with the software

Often the headphones do not connect to the phone due to a software glitch. Application conflicts, system errors, firmware bugs, applications not working - all this can lead to sound problems. Mostly, the problem can be resolved on its own after replacing the application, resetting the settings, or flashing the gadget.

What to do if the phone does not see the headphones due to the fault of the software:

  • We remove temporary files, viruses and change the audio player. Initially, you should run CCleaner, which will delete the cache and temporary application data. Then we can use the free Avast antivirus to clean the system of viruses. Finally, install another media player on Android from Google Play;

  • We reset the gadget's settings, this leads to the complete deletion of all user data (except for those located in the memory of the flash drive). The smartphone acquires the same state as when it was first turned on. You need to go to Recovery mode (press and hold the volume up and lock buttons when the phone is off). Here you need to select the Hard Reset item;
  • Reflashing Android. This is the last correction option from this perspective, which we do not describe in detail here.

Problems with headphones

Unfortunately, sooner or later almost any headphones break. Most often, first one speaker fails, then gradually the second one begins to fail. This happens due to chafing - thin headphone cables wear out quickly, and the insulation on them can often wear through, exposing the wires. Gradually, the contacts connecting the speaker to the power supply system stop working, and the sound stops flowing.

The problem may also be with the speaker itself. In cheap headphones they often fail. The reason for this may be the poor quality of the plastic casing of the speaker, excessive load with strong vibrations (a lot of bass). As soon as the integrity of the speaker is compromised, the sound begins to flow unevenly, or completely absent.

The connector in the phone is faulty

A faulty headphone jack on your smartphone will make it impossible to connect to any gadget other than wireless ones. You can fix the problems yourself, armed with a screwdriver and a soldering iron. If you have experience disassembling a phone, you need to remove the case cover, battery, then unscrew the connector from the case. Inspect the part: most often the cause of failure is a disconnection or damage to the cable connecting the connector to the motherboard. After repairing the damage, reassemble the case and try connecting the headphones.

The headset has already been paired with another device

Sometimes a Bluetooth headset, which has already been tested many times with another gadget, does not connect to a new phone. The fact is that the headset is automatically connected to the first device, and then the pairing function is disabled. To reactivate it, you need to hold the power button until the indicator lights up. A window will appear on your phone to enter the pairing code. The factory code adopted by manufacturing companies is 0000, four zeros.

These are the main reasons why the phone does not see the Bluetooth headset. Due to the fact that such accessories do not have complex settings, there are no other reasons for malfunctions.

Contamination got in

A dirty connector is often the cause of poor performance. If dirt gets into the hole, the contact between the connector and the headphone plug is blocked, and sound reproduction through the speakers becomes impossible.

To clean the connector, take a thin wooden stick or toothpick, wrap one end with a piece of cotton wool and lower it into the hole. Twist the toothpick several times, then pull it out and turn the smartphone over to shake out any remaining dust. Then try plugging the plug into the socket and turning on music playback.

Movie

The Fold 2 has a sufficient number of movies in its library. In general, I’m going to write about the device in more detail - one of the favorite gadgets that I once had. The device is complex, expensive, with its own characteristics and areas of application. Both Buds Pro and Buds Live are ideal companions for the Fold and, in general, for any smartphone with a large screen. You can comfortably watch a TV series, movie or YouTube even in your crib, even during a lunch break, even on the subway, even on an airplane - a bunch is prepared in seconds, it works for a long time.

First of all, I turned on the wonderful film “Lighthouse”, where sound is of great importance and evokes a lot of emotions - the Buds Pro turned out to be good here.

The second number is a piece from “Tenet” - I also really liked everything, the music, the voices, and the shooting. I also watched about twenty minutes of “The Gentlemen” - and there are no questions either: juicy, bright, matching the magnificent picture and images.

It will be interesting to try 360 Audio with Samsung's new products, before you have time to take the S21 away from your colleagues. I'll try to add to this chapter a little later.
