Configuring the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router from the user’s side is very simple; this is the key feature of the router. Additionally, the device is characterized by its small dimensions and increased network coverage area. There is support for working with all operators in Russia and the CIS. The router can configure the Internet received from the provider via an optical fiber line and distribute it to consumers. You can connect computers and gadgets to the router via cable lines and using a radio signal of a certain frequency. Before you start working with devices on the Internet, you need to connect and configure the router.

Connection

You can connect the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router according to the standard scheme. First you need to install the router and connect it to the power supply. Here are the instructions:

1. Turn on the router to a 220 V power supply, connect power to the device using the power button.
2. Connect the LAN cable to your computer or laptop.
3. Connect a modem or WAN cable to distribute the Internet.

If you plan to connect via Wi-Fi, then in the network settings of your computer/laptop, find the available connection “Zyxel Keenetic” (without quotes). This network is not password protected. An exception can only be if the password was set by the provider.

To connect via modem, it is recommended to disable the PIN code request on the operator's SIM card.

Further settings will be carried out via the web interface. To do this you will need any browser. It is recommended to install it first, since the router does not include a disk with the necessary software.

Login to router settings

To open the web interface with the router settings, open any browser. In the address bar (not in the search!) enter https://192.168.1.1 and press Enter.

You will be asked for a login and password. By default: login – “admin”, password – “1234” or “admin”. Login information may be changed by your operator. In this case, the contract contains up-to-date information.

Immediately after logging in, a window will open where you need to provide new login information for security purposes. Enter new data or close the window by clicking on the “Do not set a password” button.

Automatic setup

By default, after logging in and setting a password, the Internet center should offer a quick setup. Such a proposal may not follow. In any case, automatic configuration of the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router occurs as follows:

1. In the upper right part of the interface, click on the “NetFriend Quick Setup” button or use a similar button in the pop-up window offering quick setup.

Setting up Keenetic manually may vary depending on your service provider. You must first complete the following steps:

2. Expand the “PPPoE/VPN” tab.
3. Click on "Add a new connection".

Rostelecom and Dom.ru

For Rostelecom and Dom.ru, the connection setup form is filled out as follows:

1. In “Protocol Type” enter “PPPoE”.
2. Fill out the “Username” and “Password” fields in accordance with the information specified in the agreement with the provider.
3. “Configure IP settings” leave the value “Automatic”.

Beeline

Users of communication services fill out a form similar to this:

1. “Protocol type” – “L2TP”.
2. In “Server Address” enter the standard Beeline server - tp.internet.beeline.ru. If a different address is used, this will be indicated in the agreement with the operator.
3. Fill out the “Username” and “Password” fields in accordance with the information specified in the user agreement.
4. The Authentication Method and IP Settings fields must be set to Auto.
5. The remaining fields are left blank.

Megafon and NetByNet

In this case, MAC address registration is required:

1. From the connectors marked on the diagram, select connector “0”. Check the box next to it in the “Use connector” line.
2. "Configure IP Settings" should be set to "Auto".
3. Set the "MAC address" to "default". If necessary, you can enter the MAC address indicated on the back cover of the router.

After filling out one of the forms provided, click “Apply”. After applying the settings, it is recommended to reboot the router.

Preparation

For normal functioning of the network, you should select automatic distribution of IP and DNS servers. This is done as follows.

1. Open “Network Settings...” through the context menu of the network tray icon.

1. Call up the window for changing adapter settings, then open its properties through the context menu.
2. Click on the line responsible for changing the parameters of the fourth edition protocol, and set the automatic method for obtaining DNS and IP.

Setting up via mobile application

The manufacturer has developed a mobile application for Android and iOS. Through it, users can perform primitive manipulations with the router: view information about the device, firmware, users, update or reset all settings.

1. Click on the “About device” block on the main screen of the application.
2. To start searching for the latest updates, use the “Device Update” button.
3. If there are available updates, the “Update” button will become active. Click on it.

Full configuration of the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router via a mobile application is impossible.

Why the router does not see the Yota 4G USB modem

USB modems from iota are completely different. Although the router supports a very large number of modems, you should check this list on the official website of the manufacturer ZyXEL (https://help.keenetic.com/hc/ru/articles/214471025). If a 4G Internet modem is on the list, then there should be no problems with compatibility, since the router itself synchronizes with the portable devices that it supports. If the modem is in the list, but there is no connection, then you need to update the router firmware to the latest. Most often, the pre-installed version of the software in the router is very different from what the manufacturers are currently releasing.

Wi-Fi connection and settings

To connect to the Zyxel wireless network, you need to follow these steps:

1. Click the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar in Windows. From the list of available networks, select “Zyxcel” or “Keenetic” (without quotes). The network may also have another name, for example, the name of the provider.
2. Go to the router configuration web interface.
3. At the bottom, click on the wireless network icon.
4. Switch to the “Access Point” tab. In the “Network key” field, enter the password written on the router case.

Setting up IP TV

The router supports IPTV on devices equipped with TV-Port. Internet television is configured like this:

1. Connect the TV to the router using a LAN cable or via Wi-Fi.
2. In the “Internet” section, click on “Broadband connection”.

Change Password

When the Internet center web interface is launched for the first time, the user is prompted to enter a new password and a new name. You can refuse to enter new data if you plan to enter it later. In this case, the default password remains.

To change your current login and password, you need to:

1. Click on the gear button at the bottom of the screen.
2. Switch to the “Users” tab. There, click on your user name, if there are several. By default, only one user is recorded - admin.

my.keenetic.net or 192.168.1.1 does not open. What to do?

Try the following solutions:

Incorrect username or password

Try the standard ones: admin/admin or admin/1234.

If this doesn't work, the only option left is a factory reset. After this procedure, the router will be like new; it will have to be configured again. Turn on the router and wait a few minutes. Use a paper clip or other sharp object to hold the button for 10-12 seconds.

The button can be released when the “Status” indicator starts flashing quickly.

After this, you can again go to the Internet center settings and set a new administrator password.

Repeater mode

The device can work as a signal repeater to increase the Wi-Fi coverage area. For it to work in repeater mode, you need to change the mode in the settings:

1. Switch to the "Mode" tab.
2. Place a checkmark next to “Booster – Wi-Fi zone extension”. Click Apply.

Firmware update

Over time, the manufacturer sends new firmware versions for its devices. If they are not installed in time, there may be problems with the operation of the router and the support of some functions.

There are two ways to update the firmware.

Via web interface

1. In the “System” tab, pay attention to the “Updates” line (it is located in the “System Information” block). If it says “Available”, then click on this inscription.

Via smartphone app

1. Before logging into the application, connect to your router wirelessly.
2. Go to the "Firmware" tab.
3. Set the switch for “Automatic software updates” to the active position. Now, if current updates are found, they will be installed automatically.

Safety

To set conditions and actions assigned to them for incoming packages, you must:

1. In the “Security” tab, click “Firewall” and click “Add”.
2. Select the condition: allow or deny and protocol.
3. Apply the condition to the desired device (enter its IP).
4. Make changes.

At first, there may be problems with the functionality of the rule, but after several attempts, an understanding of the algorithm for the operation of the built-in firewall appears.

Reset

You can reset the router to factory settings using the RESET button. It is located on the back of the body and is recessed into it. Press it with some thin object. Hold for 15 seconds. The router indicators will flash several times and go off. This indicates a successful reset.

2. Switch to the "Options" tab. There, use the “Return to factory settings” button.
