The language bar has disappeared in Windows 10 - recovery methods

The language bar has disappeared in Windows 10

The language bar is located in task settings, next to the clock. Thanks to the option, they find out what language the user will type on the keyboard. If you press this key, you can go to the language settings.

Language selection

Many users complain that the language icon has disappeared from the taskbar in Windows 10; they cannot see it. Interestingly, even if it is missing, the Shift + Alt key combination changes the language from Russian to English and vice versa. All settings work, but the icon cannot be displayed. The reason for this is that the language menu is disabled in the settings, or the OS freezes. A person becomes uncomfortable working with a personal computer or laptop.

Basic functions of the language bar

The main function of the language bar is to change the language from Russian to English or vice versa. The user can click on the icon, selecting the “Language Settings” section. When you go to this menu, the “Language” section appears in front of the client. The following options are available:

  • View the user's primary language.
  • Availability of preferred languages, by default they are presented in English, Russian.
  • Adding a preferred language if it is not the default, but the user works with it.

In this section you can send feedback or get help. Nearby there are icons for date, time, region formats, administrative language settings, and keyboard input settings. These features are placed together so you can find them quickly.

Interesting! Through the “Language” menu, additional keyboard parameters are adjusted. Select the input language, open the language panel on the desktop, and the Emoji panel. If the user wants, he can change the keyboard shortcut to change the language.

Re-adding languages

If the two methods described above did not produce results, then there is another one that can help if you have lost the language on the taskbar. The reason may be incorrectly installed languages. We’ve already talked about how to add a new language to Windows 10, so we’ll look at all the steps briefly.

As described above, open the “Region and Language” tab in the settings. Here you will see a list of all languages installed on your computer. If you have several of them, select each one separately and click “Delete”. There should be only one left, under the name of which it will be written “Interface language”.

Then you need to install all the languages you need again. To do this, click on the “Add language” button.

Select the one you need from the list and click “Next”.

In the next window, clear the checkbox in the “Set interface language” field and click “Install”.

When the selected language is installed, you can move on to the next one (if you have several of them). Then restart your PC and the language icon should return to the taskbar.

Recovery options

Why doesn't the language bar appear in Windows 7?

If the language change on Windows 10 is missing, some users think that the system can only be restored through Settings. In fact, there are more options for resolving the problem. It's all about the reason why the option disappeared. It can be returned in the following ways:

  • pressing a key combination;
  • activating the icon in “Settings”;
  • Login to the Control Panel;
  • using the “Language Options” menu;
  • removal of viruses and other harmful devices;
  • checking the integrity of files.

Each of these functions is performed quickly. But this requires you to follow certain steps sequentially if the language bar is not visible in Windows 10.

Selecting Parameters

Activating the icon in Settings

If the language on the Windows 10 taskbar has disappeared, there are 3 stages to activate the icon. All of them are achievable through the options menu. After the steps are completed, it is recommended to check if the language bar appears. If it functions normally, the language change is displayed, all actions were successful.

Win+I combination

The taskbar disappeared on the Windows 7 desktop

If the Windows 10 language layout has disappeared, go to the Start menu. Look for the "Windows Settings" section. It is located in the main menu under the guise of a gear. If the user presses Win + I, the new menu appears faster.

Personalization

The menu that appears has many settings sections. There they identify additional devices, communicate with the phone, go online, select games and many other functions. To configure the language menu, you need to click on the Personalization section located in the Windows 10 system settings.

Additional Information! Not every person knows, but “Personalization” can also appear through the desktop. Just right-click on it and select the appropriate “Personalization” section. The context menu allows you to quickly find the operating system function of interest.

Taskbar - Notification Area - Input Indicator - On

When the English layout of Windows 10 has disappeared, open the Personalization section and go through the following steps to change the language function:

  4. View the input indicator section, if this feature is in disable mode, it is enabled.

From the system icons, we need to select “Input Indicator”. Set it to the "On" position. The language bar will reappear on the lower taskbar.

Solving the problem through the control panel

How to hide the taskbar in Windows 10 - simple methods, instructions

The Control Panel is another option that adjusts the icons on the bottom task bar. If the language selection display appears and disappears intermittently, you can use a different language bar in the Windows 10 operating system by opening Settings.

Win + R – enter Control Panel

To perform the function, open the Control Panel. Press the Win + R keys. An additional window will appear in front of the user. It is small in size and contains an input line in the middle. Enter the combination of words “Control Panel”. On some computers, just using the word "Control" is sufficient. Press “Enter” or “Ok” to pin the selected task.

Run block with regional standards

The Regional Settings feature is located in Settings. To find this area, go to the following sections:

  • Control Panel;
  • all elements of the Control Panel.

In the menu that appears, the “Regional Options” icon will appear approximately in the middle of the screen. If the user cannot find it, use the operating system's search engine. It's located on the taskbar in the lower left corner, next to the Start button.

Region and language

Language settings - advanced keyboard settings - use on desktop

When the “Region” folder is open, select the “Formats” section. In it, click on the “Language options” link. The user is required to do the following functions and open windows:

  1. “Settings” window (the user may have already been there before, but now he goes to the desired section).
  2. Various links will appear, select the fourth one, which is called “Advanced keyboard settings”.
  3. Look at the section for switching input methods, check the box there so that the language bar option is displayed on the desktop.

After checking the box, you must confirm the action. To do this, press “Enter or the Ok button.”

Go to language bar settings – pinned – Ok

Next, the settings continue:

  1. Turn on the "Language Bar Options" section to activate it.
  2. A language bar with various sections will appear; in it, you need to select the “Pinned to taskbar” option.
  3. Click on the “Ok” button to assign the selected functions to the language bar.

This completes the installation. It is recommended that you restart your computer to complete the update. If the user has completed all the steps correctly, the language icon will appear in the lower right part of the main menu.

Deleting an entry in the registry

Another simple manipulation in the Registry Editor can help you. Before performing the described task, also make a backup copy of the registry just in case:

  1. Open the Registry Editor interface again using the instructions detailed in the sections above. Also, double-click first on the second directory HKEY_CURRENT_USER, and then on the Software branch in it.
  2. Display the contents of the following nested sections: Classes - Local Settings - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - TrayNotify. Look for the IconStreams entry in the TrayNotify folder.
  3. Find the IconStreams registry entry on the right side of the editor - you need to get rid of it. Right-click on the line and in the gray menu click on the delete action. Use the context menu to remove IconStreams
  4. In the small window that appears, click on “Yes” to confirm clearing the registry of this setting. If it turns out that there is no entry with the same name in the TrayNotify folder, then this method will not help you - move on to others. Confirm that you want to remove IconStreams

Finding and removing malware

The reason for the disappearance of a language may be malware or viruses. Even if you follow all the listed rules to restore the option, the icon disappears again. Therefore, you need to look deeper for the cause of the problem; damage may occur not only to the settings, but also to the entire operating system.

Advanced Scan

To fix the problem, find the “Windows Security” setting. It is located in the main line below. There you need to click on the up arrow, then select the white shield icon. Further actions are performed sequentially.

  1. An antivirus program opens, in which you select the first icon called “Protection against viruses and threats.”
  2. Select one of 2 functions - quick or advanced scanning. Choose option 2, it is more optimal, it studies all sections of the operating system.
  3. The user has a choice of two types of full scanning. It can be in full or offline mode. In the first case, the scanning will take a long time, but it happens in the background, so the user can perform other tasks on the computer. If you select offline scanning, the computer will go into reboot mode. The option will take place quickly, no more than 15 minutes.
  4. During the scanning process, the computer will periodically produce results. If offline mode is selected, all data will appear at the end. More often than not, the security system removes the virus on its own. In some cases, it may ask the user for permission to remove certain programs.

After deleting or changing virus files, some folders and settings may be damaged. You need to restore the necessary settings so that further work with your computer or laptop can proceed without problems.

Once again about the new Pikabu mobile application and user safety

I’ll put in my two cents as a programmer and a person who searches for vulnerabilities NOT ONLY on websites.

Before accusing someone of mass storage of logins and passwords from accounts, it’s worth first learning the equipment.

Let's look at how this application is authorized on Pikabu. Here is the code for this method: Pastebin

Let me briefly explain what is happening:

1. The mobile application receives a special token for protection against cross-site requests (CSRF) from pikabu.ru

(not from someone else’s server, namely from pikabu.ru!), without it the server will not accept any request.
2. The mobile application makes an authorization request to pikabu.ru, copying the browser request as much as possible (you can see the same one in the browser debugger when logging in), note, again only pikabu.ru
and no third-party resources! 3. The application saves the received session identifier and makes all further requests EXCLUSIVELY to pikabu.ru

Check the integrity of system files

When the above steps are completed, the integrity of the system files is checked and their functionality is restored. Execute sequential commands:

  1. In the taskbar, open the “Search” menu, where they type the “cmd” command (if this cannot be done, type the “Command Prompt” request).
  2. Right-click on the command line that appears and select the “Run as administrator” option.
  3. Type the key combination Cntrl + V, where you enter the command “sfc /scannow”.
  4. Wait for the device to be scanned, which will be marked in percentage mode.

Thanks to scanning, files that could lead to the absence of the language bar are additionally destroyed. After completing the option, restart the computer.

Command line

Many users think that returning the language bar will not be difficult. If the language switch icon in Windows 10 has disappeared, the problem may be much deeper than just the disappearance of the icon. Therefore, they follow a number of instructions that will remove malware, change settings or files. They are carried out sequentially until the Change language option appears in the main line.
