Kobo
A powerful, fully functional e-reader with its own online library in English. You will have to add books in Russian through mail or cloud services, as in many other applications for reading books.
The program uses a reward system for users who actively discuss books they have read. Unfortunately, these features will only be useful to those who read books from Kobo's rather limited library.

Amazon Kindle
One of the most popular e-readers for iOS. Amazon has compiled a huge library of books and audiobooks in English, available to users for $10 a month.
Quite expensive for Russia, but if there are several people in the family who like to read and listen in English, this is an acceptable option. The same Audible requires $15 a month only for audiobooks. Another thing is that not all books in the Amazon store are included in the Kindle Unlimited catalog and are provided for free with a subscription.
The Kindle app itself is very fast. Its main advantage: synchronization with other e-readers, be it a Kindle device or a client on another gadget. If you read books on devices other than Apple and iBooks can't sync across them, consider switching to Kindle.

Litres Read!
After downloading the application, at first it seemed to me that this was not an e-reader, but just a store for downloading books. After performing several operations, I realized that everything was in order - the Litres developers created an excellent e-reader combined with an online library.
The program keeps performance statistics, showing what the user prefers to read in the morning, afternoon, evening or night. It also tells you how many pages you read on average per day and displays your favorite genres based on the books you've added to your personal library.
Litres provides access to a large number of free books, many of which are studied in school. I quickly found works by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Jules Verne, Alexander Pushkin and Alexandre Dumas. During my school years, I would have been glad to be able to so quickly find a book to read (at least briefly) for the next lesson.

KyBook
It was a damn pleasure to load KyBook, tap on the pre-installed book “Anna Karenina” by Leo Tolstoy in Russian and immediately go to the reading interface. In this case, you did not have to enter your email and share one of your frequently used passwords before starting work, as with previous programs.
Directly from the application (still without authorization), I was able to open the Project Getunberg archive with a huge library of free books in English and download from there “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. Within the first 45 seconds of working with the program, I fell in love with it and left it on my iPad.
KyBook does not have its own store, but the user can connect to the LitRes or Samizdat library. The program has built-in advertising, but you can get rid of it for 300 rubles.

iBooks
Over the past 5 years, so many reviews of the application have appeared on the Internet that I don’t even know what else to write. If you still want to read about it, here is an interesting review of iBooks from Arthur Sotnikov.
In a nutshell, I will say from myself that iBooks works no worse than any application for reading books. The program allows you to change the background color in a few taps, this is convenient if you read at different times of the day.
Books in Russian will have to be downloaded and purchased from third-party suppliers. To add them to your library, tap on the book file in iCloud or Mail and select iBooks.

The application allows you to scale DjVu files, supports file downloads, as well as purchases on iTunes. Files can also be transferred to iPhone via Wi-Fi. Various network storages are supported.
When reading text, it can be easily scaled. In addition, it supports scaling the entire document in case it contains illustrations. This feature is especially useful when viewing scientific or engineering publications.
A long press on clear text brings up the quick menu. From here you can go to quick settings, table of contents, make a bookmark, and activate text reading.
In the settings, you can determine the brightness of the screen, the direction of flipping, turn on or off the animation effect, and display one or two pages on one screen.
PocketBook Reader
A virtual library of books for iPhone in a compact format with an informative interface that can be changed for maximum convenience and comfort (increase the font, reduce the spaces between lines, change the theme). Among the advantages is support for audiobooks and the function of voicing text using artificial intelligence.
The OPDS catalogues, from which they allow you to download literature for free, are also there. There will be no problems downloading content via iTunes - you can really read without any restrictions.

One of the disadvantages of the application for iPhone is advertising, which can only be turned off for a fee, for 149 rubles per month (minimum!).

It seems that this monstrous reader can boast of all the settings and functions that could be useful when reading from a mobile device. Changing interface themes, managing headers and footers, sorting downloaded books according to different criteria, connecting various dictionaries, speed reading mode - this is just a small part of everything that KyBook 2 has.
Not every reader needs such an arsenal, but if you like customization, you can try this program. KyBook 2 is available free of charge for a month, after which some functions are disabled. You can unblock them and at the same time remove ads for 299 rubles.

If there is a need to “read” some rare edition of a book, available in an unknown and unreadable format, then TotalReader will most likely cope with the task in exactly 5 seconds.
The interface is completely in order - you can change the design and add buttons to the quick access panel. One of the advantages is the ability to upload files from anywhere - via Wi-Fi, via FTP, and using cloud storage.
iBouquiniste
A classic application for reading books with an interface that partially replicates Apple Books, a free library with books available in both Russian and English, and an impressive collection of supported formats - from FB2 to PDF, MOBI and ePub.
Among the advantages over competitors is the presence of books that allows sorting by author, date and current stage of reading (read, new), support for cloud storage, where you can add literature from a computer, and read from a smartphone or tablet, customize animation and sound of flipping pages.
The developers have not forgotten about modern technologies, for example, iBouquiniste is able to monitor the current position of the pupils and automatically turn the page at the first request of users. It will not be possible to find something similar from competitors even with a strong desire.
iBouquiniste is distributed free of charge, but with advertising, or for a fee, but without additional subscriptions and payments.
Marvin 3

Another e-reader with an ultimate set of functions, which is close in capabilities to KyBook 2. However, Marvin 3 supports only one book format (EPUB) and at the same time costs a little more. Nevertheless, the application is beautiful, and after getting used to it, it is very convenient.
You can test Marvin 3 for free. But a banner at the bottom of the screen will remind you of the existence of a premium version with a set of multi-colored skins.

The app looks like iBooks did at the beginning of its career: books sit on a wooden shelf. The same warm tones are selected by default for reading books. When reading, you can make bookmarks, notes in the margins, and highlight important things in the text that will be useful when studying.
When reading, the menu is called up by pressing once in the text field. It doesn’t always work correctly: if you pause a little, the text selection tool will launch.
Controlling display brightness, reading and font settings are not located on the first menu screen. The display brightness, unfortunately, can only be changed from the menu.
Ebook Reader borrows more than just wooden shelves from iBooks. This is primarily a literature store; it simply does not read files downloaded to the iPhone. There are a lot of similar services in the App Store, and you can only distinguish them from e-readers by installing the application.
