Last week, Xiaomi, during the presentation of the Redmi Y2 smartphone in India (Redmi S2 in other regions), announced the release of the global beta version of MIUI 10. At the event, the Chinese technology giant presented the official list of devices that will be able to update to the new generation of firmware in June. Today, June 16, Xiaomi announced the availability of MIUI 10 Global Beta for the first six smartphone models.

Is it worth updating to the latest version?
Of course, this question is individual for everyone. Some users prefer the smooth and stable operation of the operating system on Global Stable and do not want to receive “dubious” innovations. Others are constantly testing new developer firmware.
The fact is that Miyuai 10 did not receive any particularly new functions , the entire focus was on improving energy saving, power and the absence of various glitches, which we wrote about in the news. Unfortunately, the beta version cannot boast of working without bugs.
There are also purely “cosmetic” changes: the shell has a huge number of colorful wallpapers and interesting themes, and the interface looks sophisticated and stylish.
The camera settings have changed noticeably: even with one module, you can create good portrait shots with a bokeh effect. The tabs are now arranged more compactly, managing connected “smart” equipment is much easier, optimization is encouraging.
Settings, required section
In the terminal settings we have the possibility of developing several processes, although we only show the main part that marks the line that we find in all sections. In EMUI we find right at the top the ID of where we are centered next to the search bar that allows us to quickly reach access, something that in MIUI we find practically traceable, although it takes up more space.
Just below in EMUI we see our account information, and in MIUI we find access to phone information along with updates, giving an idea of what EMUI places at the end. EMUI relies on rounded shapes in icons next to text, divided into blocks, while MIUI uses only an object vector in colors and no blocks, making text the only visual divider.
Battery
Within the adjustments we will be able to see the reflected aesthetics of the adjustments, following a continuous line, where if we change to dark mode we can see how EMUI applies it, changing the tones directly with somewhat harsh results. In both cases we see at the top the remaining percentage and below the usage time that will remain after the automatic calculation.
Both EMUI and MIUI feature quick access to optimization options that make it impossible to improve the device's performance, and below we see other options, following the same aesthetic of the main settings section.
Which Xiaomi smartphones will be updated to MIUI 10
Now let's find out which models have already received MIUI 10 Beta or will do so in the near future. The list of updated phones is huge; the company has not left even outdated devices without due attention.
So if you are the owner of a “second” or “third generation” Xiaomi smartphone, do not despair, but look for your mobile device below.
Redmi line
First, let's look at the budget branch:
- Redmi 5A, Redmi 5A Prime, Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Note 5, Note 5A, Note 5 Pro, Note 5 Al Dual;
- Redmi 4X, Redmi 4A, Redmi 4, Note 4, Note 4X;
- And of course Redmi 3S, Redmi Note 3, Redmi S2.
Mi line
Next in line are smartphones from the flagship line, which will also be updated to the latest software:
- Mi 3, Mi Note 3, Note 2;
- Mi Max, Max 2, Mi MIX, MIX 2, MIX 2s;
- Xiaomi Mi 4, Mi 5, Mi 5S, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5X;
- Mi 6, Mi 6X;
- Mi 8, Mi 8 SE.
Pocophone line
Our list also needs to mention the new “secret brother” - Xiaomi Pocophone F1. This model has already appeared in the MIUI 9 video, but the new MIUI 10 will soon be finalized and added to the standard factory set before the global launch of Poco F1 in Europe and India.
What is Russian firmware and why is it needed?
All Xiaomi smartphones are divided into international and models aimed only at the Chinese market. The first ones are released with a global version of the firmware, in which all possible languages are preinstalled. The functions of MIUI 10 global assembly work in Europe and America.
The second version of the firmware is intended exclusively for the Chinese domestic market. The modules built into it do not work in other countries. For example, NFC in the Asian version does not allow payments in Europe.
Which Xiaomi models will receive Android 8 in the new firmware
Unfortunately, not all smartphones from the above list will be equipped with Android Oreo. Some will receive Android 6 or 7, especially for “first generation” Xiaomi devices. The only positive fact for outdated devices: the shell will not be based on a version lower than Lollipop.
But the Android 8.0/8.1 operating system is guaranteed for the following models:
- Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A, Redmi Note 5.
- Mi Max, Max 2.
- Mi MIX, MIX 2, MIX 2S (from 2022 will be based on Android P).
- Xiaomi Mi 5, 5S, 5X.
- Mi 6, 6 Pro, 6X.
- Mi A1, Mi A2.
- Poco F1.
It is quite possible that these devices will receive Android P based on MIUI 11 next year, but this information has not yet been officially confirmed.
Lock screen, first look
The first thing we see when taking a picture of our mobile phone is the lock screen, where we will see notifications, time and some additional information such as the phone company. In both settings levels we find quick access to the camera on the right side of the screen, and in the case of EMUI 10 we add, along with the time and date, the steps that we took during the day.
We can highlight the great similarity that we see in the state of the battery and the alarm icon, although in the case of Huawei this space is cleared even more without showing the coverage . In the case of Huawei we are in the center where we must place the fingerprint to unlock the smartphone through the built-in there is a fingerprint reader in the screen, which we also see in MIUI 11 in terminals with this functionality.
MIUI 10 Global Stable release date – 09.15.18
The international version of Global Stable is already available for:
- Mi 6
- Mi 5
- Redmi Note 5
- Mi Note 2
- Redmi S2/Y2
- Mi Mix 2/2S
- Mi Mix
- Xiaomi Mi 8
Another very popular question among users is when will the global stable version of the new Miyuai be released. We also recently discussed this in this news.
According to official information, stable firmware will appear on September 15, 2022 , but for now for a limited number of models.
Global firmware is usually released two to three months after the release of China ROM. The approximate period of time is the end of September – the beginning of October. Smartphones released this year will receive the update first, as is always the case. And the turn for outdated mobile devices will probably come by spring.
The main screen is what we see the most
When unlocking the terminal we have access to this partition, which is necessary especially in layers like EMUI 10 and MIUI 11, which base their applications on this partition. On the main screen of both terminals we find the clock and date, adding temperature in MIUI 11, although this is an option that we can also activate in EMUI 10, it will depend on the type of widget selected.
In the case of MIUI 11 we see buttons on the screen, although in devices with the ability to use gestures they will be identical to what we see in EMUI 10.
Icons and folders, more aesthetically pleasing
In the previous images we were able to see the icons, although it will be in this section next to their folders where we will see the similarities that they maintain in each adjustment layer. In both cases, the icons take geometric shapes as a starting point with square, rounded corners and app integration with vectors , following the material design aesthetic created by Google.
In the case of Huawei we know when we enter the folder in which we are located, a translucent form that protects them, while in Xiaomi these icons play an all-leading role. In both cases, we see a description of the folder at the top and the text or name of each application below the icons.
How to update to MIUI 10 over the air
Over-the-air update, which is carried out using built-in OTA technology, is the easiest way. To do this, you do not need access to a computer, third-party files and a lengthy flashing process. The entire operation takes place through the standard “Settings” menu.
As soon as the new MIUI 10 firmware becomes available for the device, the smartphone with the developer/global version will receive a notification. But you can check this yourself.
Checking for update availability
“Settings” shortcut on the desktop , go down to the very bottom of the list, where we click “About phone” .
There we click on the item we need “System updates” and “Check now” . If the update has arrived, we agree to the flashing and click “Update now” .
The system will start downloading the file in the background and when the download is complete, it will check the file for integrity and then prompt you to restart the phone. Typically the update process takes up to 10 minutes and includes several reboots.
Do not under any circumstances perform any actions with the phone during this period of time!
The smartphone must be charged 40-50%, or connected to a power source.
Why do updates for RU Stable take so long?
As stated above, an important difference between the Russian MIUI firmware is the release date . But at the same time this is a big minus. When purchasing a phone, the user cannot see in advance on the box what firmware it costs. And official Chinese developers mark only the main version, designating it as “Global”. There are no “Russia” or “For sale in Russia” labels.
Hundreds of people from China and India are painstakingly working on creating a global version. An entire official division of Xiaomi Corporation. But with Russian firmware everything is completely different.
In the first case, these are entire teams of programmers, designers, and beta testers . An entire community living its own separate life and going through all stages of development, hidden from the eyes of ordinary people. And even this community sometimes does not have enough time and energy to complete the work on time, since a considerable number of Xiaomi phones are being released.
In the second case, only about eight people invent the RU version . Of course, they are officially obliged to provide users with the result no more than a month and a half after the release of MIUI Stable Global. However, the Xiaomi corporation itself and its Chinese management do not directly influence the progress of work in the Russian segment and are not responsible. Only in quarterly reports can you learn about real problems from official sources.
Update via Fastboot
This is a more complex procedure that requires a special MiFlash utility, connection to a computer, and an unlocked bootloader. We described the entire process in detail in this article, which you can read and easily reflash the device without threatening the operating system.
In the meantime, let’s duplicate the brief instructions here:
- Disable digital driver signing on a computer running Windows;
- Install a program called MIUI ROM Flashing;
- Unlock the bootloader;
- Download the firmware for your phone (Xiaomi or Redmi) from the official MIUI forum.
- We put the device into Fastboot mode, connect it to the PC and flash it using Mi
Making SMS hidden status
If you do not want the contents of received SMS messages to become available when other users view the contents of your smartphone, then use the function that will set a password for reading messages.
To do this, go to the Messages application and drag down the subscriber list, after which you will see a request to confirm the password setting.
To find private SMS, slide the list down and enter the password.
Update via Recovery
Another worthy method for which you will need TWRP. Previously, the update took place without problems in the stock utility, but now a third-party recovery is required.
In the near future, a separate article dedicated to updating Xiaomi phones via Recovery will appear on our website. In the meantime, you can find out how to properly install a software project, what advantages it has and what it is generally intended for.
Important information! Before flashing the firmware, wipes are usually always carried out, and to avoid losing important information, make a backup in advance.
Areas of use
In many aesthetic sections that we find on both levels of customization, applications play a fundamental role, since we use them very often, as in the case of a music or telephone application. These applications usually maintain a common aesthetic in all situations, which allows us to remember that there are no independent applications on our mobile phone and that they all play in the same league.
Music
The first app we find is music, where both companies highlight player buttons and album art when available. EMUI integrates the entire cover with the tone of the player, creating an immersive effect, where at the bottom just above the player we see advanced tools for cutting a clip, marking a song as a favorite and other options.
MIUI 11, on the other hand, offers a cleaner design with player controls on top of added options that we can see are completely in line with the EMUI 10 settings.
Health
Within health applications, utilities go beyond stages and reach calories burned these days. Huawei has integrated it before and Xiaomi is starting to do so now to offer users an alternative that allows them to combine Mi Band results with its official mobile app.
The aesthetic section is kept very clean in both, showing us graphically all our progress, although in a more polished way in Huawei to have a larger route
Contact phone number
The last application we will learn is a phone designed for calls, but it can be hidden. In EMUI we see how they forget about geometric shapes and give us only the important thing, while in Xiaomi we see even a small rounded line that differentiates the contact marker.
In the case of MIUI 11, this allows us to show a photo in each contact and at the top go to contacts. EMUI 10, on the other hand, puts those access to contacts or favorites
At the bottom, interestingly, they alternate buttons for deleting and hiding phone calls, which is up to each company to decide.
