Why Xiaomi Mi Band does not connect to iPhone

Often, many users may experience minor problems when connecting. Below we will consider the most common of them and tell you what to do to get out of such an unpleasant situation.

Pair device first. If you see such an inscription during the first connection, do not be alarmed. The system tells the user to “Connect the device first.” Try to correctly perform the pairing procedure, as described above in the corresponding block. If it doesn’t help, then follow the link provided to a separate instruction article dedicated to solving this problem.

iPhone does not see Mi Band in the list of Bluetooth devices. In this case, it is recommended to restart the phone first. If this doesn't help, try resynchronizing.

To do this you will need to perform the following simple steps:

  1. On iPhone, deactivate Bluetooth.
  2. Next, restart the Mi Fit utility - exit and re-enter your profile.
  3. Reactivate Bluetooth, place the devices next to each other, and repeat the synchronization steps.

Problems with Mi Fit. There are situations when the culprit is the proprietary application from Xiaomi itself. More precisely, an old version of the software. Go to the App Store and check if there is an update for the program. If a new version is available, be sure to update first and only then continue connecting.

The bracelet malfunctions after the update. If the iPhone stops seeing the Mi Band after updating the software on the tracker or malfunctions occur, then simply synchronize the gadgets again.

Another option to solve the problem. Try the following:

  1. On your iPhone, open Settings and go to the Bluetooth section.
  2. In the “My Devices” block, opposite the name of your fitness bracelet, click on the icon with the “i” icon.
  3. In the window that appears, select “Forget this device.”
  4. Launch the Mi Fit app to start syncing your devices.
  5. Go to the “Profile” tab and in the pop-up window click “Create a pair”.

Wearing a fitness bracelet

1. For comfortable use, place the fitness tracker on your hand at a distance of one finger width from your wrist.

2. For better performance of the heart rate sensor, make sure that the back surface of the Xiaomi Band 6 tracker fits tightly to your skin. Do not over-tighten the bracelet.

This is too loose

If the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 is too loose on your hand or the heart rate sensor is not working properly, try tightening the bracelet strap.

Main conclusions

Failures can occur with any, even the newest model of sports tracker. Having found out their cause, you can choose the optimal solution to the problem:

  1. The main complaints from users concern the lack of pairing, visibility for Bluetooth and unexpected shutdown of the gadget.
  2. Before purchasing a device, you must check the technical requirements and carefully read the instructions.
  3. Restarting the application and tracker, reducing the distance and checking the battery is most often enough to get the fitness bracelet working correctly.

When buying a sports tracker, you should pay attention not only to the seller’s recommendations, but also to user reviews. Often, inexpensive but reliable gadgets with sufficient functionality and a reasonable price receive the most stars.

Setting up basic functions of Mi Band 6

The navigation button used by Xiaomi back in the 2nd generation of fitness bracelets is now gone - neither touch-sensitive nor physical. Control has completely switched to gestures: swiping up/down brings up and scrolls through the menu, swiping from left to right has replaced the return button, and to select an element, simply touch the screen, while a long press will open an additional settings section for it. You can also swipe left or right from the home screen to bring up widgets. The default is music and weather.

To access settings and recorded data, as well as to manage their personal profile, users are left with the proprietary Mi Fit application. The parameters in the program will help you “tailor” the device to your needs, but the fitness bracelet menu is no less informative and functional.

Mi Fit app interface

The software interface offers interaction with the Mi account in three sections:

  1. Training. Designed to monitor three types of activity: walking, running, cycling and collecting general data about training and body condition.
  2. Friends. The friends system in Mi Band does a good job of keeping you motivated for daily activity. Information about training, weight, sleep quality of your loved ones and acquaintances is updated online, so you will always be aware of their progress.
  3. Profile. All the basic settings of your personal account and connected gadgets are collected here. Behavior tags can be configured so that the bracelet can more accurately recognize your actions and adjust training and physical indicators. “Goals” sets your desired weight and number of steps per day, and “Smart Analysis” provides tips for improving your sleep quality.

To go to the settings of the fitness bracelet, you need to select it on the “Profile” tab in the list of connected devices. The battery charge is always displayed at the top, and the settings options are below.

Clock face

All available and official watchfaces are stored in the “Store” and are divided into thematic groups. At the same time, the Mi Band 6 can store up to 6 watch faces in its memory, but 3 of them are pre-installed standard options that cannot be deleted.

To download the screensaver to the tracker, you will need to select the option you like in the store, click on it and then click on the “Synchronize watch face” button. Some themes are animated, and you can also download custom watch faces and create your own. For the latter, there is a Custom Dial block with blanks, a choice of background from the smartphone’s memory and a font color palette.

You can switch between downloaded watch faces on the fitness bracelet: “Main menu” > “Settings” > “Display” > press selection. Tapping and holding the home screen will also open the screensaver gallery.

Notifications, reminders and calls

This section offers a number of settings for reading notifications, messages and rejecting calls. Having received permission, the fitness watch will display incoming calls, if you wish - with a delay compared to a smartphone. Additionally, it is proposed to display the name or number of the caller instead of the standard “incoming call” message. You can reset a call from the watch screen, but answer only from your phone.

The tracker will vibrate to notify you that push notifications have been received. You need to give Mi Fit access to notifications, and then tick the applications from which you want to receive duplicate messages. If the programs you need are not in the main list provided, go to “Manage Applications” below. The “Receive only when the screen is off” option will limit the display of notifications on the watch if the smartphone screen is active.

Similarly, the tracker will notify you of an incoming SMS message, but the slider for activating this option is placed in a separate item.

Receiving notifications on the tracker display requires permission to run the Mi Fit application in the background. You can coordinate autorun by following the path “Profile” > “Mi Smart Band 6 fitness bracelet” > “Run in background”. Otherwise, notifications will stop coming, you just need to minimize or close the application.

Notifications about completing a specified number of steps per day are activated in the “Goal Notifications” item.

Warm-up reminders will come in handy when you've been sitting too long. The fitness bracelet, via vibration and notification, will ask you to get up and warm up if it has not been able to record any active activity within the last hour.

You can enable reminders in the appropriate section. You can immediately set a time interval for this function to work and additional time when you don’t need such notifications, for example at lunch.

Custom vibration

Vibration and the nature of its manifestation are configured in the corresponding tab. Each notification - a call, an alarm clock, a reminder to warm up and the rest - will be reflected in vibration individually if the user wants to remove the usual option.

In the tab that opens, select one of the events and click the plus sign (“Add”). Set the custom mode by touching the screen; the longer, the more intense the response will be. We complete the setup with the “Save” button in the upper right corner.

Health monitoring

This item suggests setting up sensors responsible for basic physical indicators.

  1. Pulse. Heart rate monitoring is launched manually or automatically if you set the measurement frequency in the application. During training, the frequency of measurements will increase with heart rate monitoring in effect. If your continuous heart rate measurement is set to an interval of 10 minutes or more, you can specify an upper resting heart rate limit and activate notifications when it is exceeded.
  2. Dream. During sleep, heart rate and blood oxygen levels are automatically measured to assess the quality of sleep and breathing. Here you can also get acquainted with the analysis of your last sleep: time of falling asleep, phases and duration; study general recommendations for improving the quality of breathing and establishing a routine.
  3. Stress. Determining stress levels is based on changes in heart rate. Readings are recorded every 5 minutes, with the exception of periods of physical activity.

Disabling metrics that are not of interest will increase the battery life of the fitness bracelet until the next recharge.

General settings of the fitness bracelet

There are 8 options in a separate menu “Bracelet Settings”.

  1. Language. After the first pairing with a smartphone, the language on the Mi Band 6 is usually installed automatically, according to the region. If for some reason hieroglyphs continue to appear on the screen or you want to translate the interface into English or any other, use this item.
  2. Display settings. The section allows you to customize the order in which objects are displayed in the menu, moving frequently used options to the top and hiding unnecessary ones altogether.
  3. Shortcut options. Create widgets for important objects. For quick viewing (by swiping to the side from the main screen), you can select up to 6 applications.
  4. Training parameters. The item is similar to the display settings - sort training modes by importance and disable the display on the bracelet of those that you do not use.
  5. Activate the screen when you raise your wrist. Since there is no power button, the bracelet reacts to raising and turning the hand. The option settings take into account the sensitivity of the response and the setting of the time frame (for example, you can disable the screen’s reaction to movements during sleep).

  6. Bracelet lock. Set a six-digit password to lock your device after you take it off your hand.
  7. Night mode. At later times of the day, the brightness of the display turns out to be uncomfortable, and due to the lack of a built-in light sensor, the fitness tracker offers to dim the brightness at a specified time interval.
  8. Bracelet location. Choose the wrist on which you will wear the tracker. It is better for right-handed people to wear the bracelet on their left hand, for left-handed people - vice versa. This is due to the peculiarity of the pedometer and heart rate monitor. On the active arm, the first sensor may trigger a false movement, and increased blood circulation will affect distorted heart rate readings.

Mi Band 6 menu

The application offers a number of interesting settings, such as searching for a bracelet, displaying weather data or time in several regions, which you can familiarize yourself with. But some options are only available from the fitness tracker menu. It is called by swiping down on the main screen of the watch.

In the Mi Band 6 “Settings” section of the same name, you can configure:

  • display – select a screensaver and health parameters to display on the screen;
  • Do Not Disturb mode, which ignores notifications from your smartphone;
  • screen brightness – 5 levels of adjustment, but it’s worth considering that maximum display brightness eats up the charge faster;
  • gestures to turn on or unlock the screen;
  • screen activity time and the period of its activation for incoming notifications (night mode);
  • go to the dial menu with a long press;
  • automatic detection of the type of activity.

The last items are reboot and reset. It is recommended to reboot for “preventive” purposes once a week or a little less often. A hard reset is used in problematic situations when the fitness bracelet is disconnected from the smartphone or does not read activity readings.

Controlling the camera and music player

Xiaomi Mi Band 6 will help you start video recording or take a photo remotely, without a smartphone in your hand. To shoot from a distance, you will need to first open the camera on your phone and select a suitable viewpoint. Then calmly step away and at a convenient moment release the camera shutter from the tracker.

To set up camera controls:

  1. In the Mi Fit application, go to the “Profile” tab, then go to the gadget settings menu (“Mi Smart Band 6 fitness bracelet”).
  2. Open the “Laboratory” section.
  3. In “Camera Settings”, click on the large button at the bottom “Bluetooth Connection” and agree to pairing.

Now you can take a photo with your phone using Mi Band. To do this, open the camera on the watch in the “Advanced” menu section and press the button that appears.

Similarly, from the bracelet you can control the audio player, flipping through songs, and broadcasting videos from YouTube or other video hosting. To listen to music, use the widget of the same name. During training, the player minimizes and runs in the background.

Using the NFC module

The manufacturer did not add NFC support in Russia. The global version of the bracelet does not have this module; however, you won’t be able to pay for your purchase with the Chinese model, since Russian payment systems are not supported. In China, the chip is actively used to pay for travel on public transport and goods through the WeChat Pay system.

The application already has a section for adding payment cards, access keys and travel tickets. And it is expected to be unlocked soon, as Xiaomi has announced an NFC-enabled version of the Mi Band 6 for the European and Russian markets.

Above, only the basic functionality of the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 is discussed. You can approach more detailed settings yourself by delving into the application and bracelet or by studying other articles. However, the developers have not yet added some options that are so expected by users. Automatic brightness adjustment, GPS module, multitasking when using a stopwatch and timer, voice assistant - it is unknown whether these functions will appear at least in the next generation of Xiaomi fitness bracelets.

But someone already does not agree to be content with the default set proposed by the manufacturer and, with the help of “popular” additions, expands the functionality of the gadget. Displaying notifications and a pointer from Google Maps on the bracelet screen, a smart alarm clock and replying to incoming messages significantly change the impression of a wearable device. And a lot of such secret features have already been developed, so all that remains is to choose from the whole variety of software for customizing the Mi Band from Xiaomi.

What you need to pair Xiaomi Mi Band and iPhone

You will need a proprietary application called Mi Fit. The current version can be downloaded for free from the App Store. Or, if it’s convenient for you, find a special QR code in the instructions for the bracelet, scan it and automatically be taken to the program page in the App Store.

Please pay attention to compatibility! The latest generations of Mi Band connect to iPhones with iOS version 10.0 and higher.

There are alternative utilities that can be used for synchronization and configuration. Among these, the best according to user ratings and reviews are:

  • Mi Band Master
  • Tools & Mi Band

Using our example, we will tell you how to connect a device via Mi Fit.

Step 1 — Registration/authorization in Mi Fit

Here, user actions may vary slightly depending on the situation. If you already have an account in the application, then simply log in by filling out the “Email Address” and “Password” fields, and click the “Login” button.

If you don't have an account yet, go through standard registration. For this:

  1. Click "Create an account." In the window that appears, select your country/region, enter “Email Address”, create a “Password” of at least 8 characters with numbers and letters, enter the confirmation code. Also agree to the “Privacy Policy” and “Join the Quality Improvement Program” by checking these boxes. Click "Registration".
  2. After some time, an SMS will be sent to your phone number containing a verification code to confirm your registration.
  3. Launch the application and enter your personal information - name, date of birth, gender, weight, height. Also give Mi Fit access to the health program. Set the number of steps you plan to take throughout the day. Based on your personal data, the system will automatically set goals step by step, but you can always set a goal manually.

Step 2 – Procedure to sync Mi Band with iPhone

To do this, you need to “Add a new device” in Mi Fit. Select “Bracelet” and the search will begin immediately.

At this time, it is recommended to bring the Mi Band closer to the iPhone, as a corresponding notification in the program interface will remind you. Wait until the bracelet vibrates, and then press the control button to confirm the connection.

There are times when the tracker itself does not have the latest firmware installed. Typically, after successful synchronization, the software update process occurs automatically. The user should not interfere with this. The procedure takes very little time and is necessary for the correct operation of the device.

Then you can set the necessary settings and track your data. Their list directly depends on the generation of the fitness tracker. In the latest models - Mi Band 4, 5, 6, the number of possible settings is of course greater than in previous versions. For example, you can select or create your own watch face, customize the weather, PAI indicator, plan walks and trips, and so on.

Let us remind you that in order for your Mi Band to always be paired with your iPhone, you must have Bluetooth technology working on your smartphone at all times. Only in this case will the fitness bracelet collect various data (steps taken, calories burned) and display the information in the interface of the Mi Fit program on the iPhone.
