How to Find Your Apple Watch After You've Lost or Misplaced It

From finding where you left your Apple Watch in the house to tracking it around the world, you can get your watch back—or at least help people get it back to you.

We are used to everything. When you first put on the expensive Apple Watch, you probably feel self-conscious about it, you might wince when you get close to catching it in the doorway. Soon enough you'll forget how much it costs and then forget to wear it.

When this happens to you - and it's definitely when, not if - then it may be that it's still on the charger by your bed. In this case, the only problem is that it's inconvenient because, of course, you noticed it was missing because you wanted to use it.

If you leave it anywhere else, from a hotel to an office, then it may be lost forever, except as Find My can help you. Usually. If it was installed, then it is.

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is a contactless payment system. Unlike Yandex.Money, this payment method is both convenient and safe - just touch your smartphone or Apple Watch to the terminal. This saves a lot of time, and you don’t have to carry a bunch of bank cards with you all the time.

Smartwatch users fear that if the device is stolen, thieves who stole the Apple Watch will be able to pay for purchases using this method.

But there is no reason to worry - before purchasing, the device asks the user’s intention to write off funds and asks to enter a 4-digit code if they were removed and put back on the wrist.

Force Touch function

This is a firm press on the watch display that brings up contextual functions.

  • Change the appearance of applications on the desktop (alphabetical list or honeycomb).
  • Delete all incoming notifications at once.
  • In the Weather application you can see the probability of rain and other precipitation, temperature.
  • In the Calendar application, choose how to display events: in the form of cards, a list, or in a day format, when everything is scheduled for specific hours.
  • In the Stopwatch app, change the appearance from digital to analog or hybrid.

Notifications and Control Center Everywhere

Call the notification list and control center from anywhere, not just from the main desktop. Those. If you swipe from top to bottom on the desktop, the notification menu will open, and if you swipe from bottom to top, the control center will open.

But inside an open application, these gestures do not work. To open the notification menu inside a running application, hold your finger at the top for 2 seconds and swipe from top to bottom. Or press it from below and call the control center.

This works in any application.

I lost it, what can I do?

If you have found your Apple Watch on the map and you are very far away, or you still cannot find it even though it sounds an alarm, you should move on to the next step in your action plan. Click to report that your Apple Watch has been lost, and to do this we will need to activate Lost mode on the watch.

This mode will be responsible for placing a personalized message on the watch indicating that it has been lost and that they can contact you via a phone number. This way, if someone finds your Apple Watch, they will see the message and can contact you immediately. To activate this mode, you must do so from the search application or from the browser.

On both iOS and desktop, you must select your Apple Watch and enable the “Mark as Lost” option. When you select it, the interface will ask you for a contact number and a message, which you can display on the screen. You will then receive an activation confirmation email.

To disable it, you will only have to repeat the same steps and select deactivation. The clock will return to normal.

What can happen if you can't find your watch?

Ideally, the watch will be found, but there is a good chance that this will not happen. That you will never see them. Even if you were unable to find the clock on the map, and email notifications do not arrive, do not be upset. First, the data on the watch is encrypted, so no one can access it without using a paired iPhone. Secondly, every Apple Watch can only be unlocked using a paired smartphone. Losing your watch is a big nuisance, but you know that none of the ill-wishers will be able to use your personal information to harm you. A lost watch will never be able to be paired with another iPhone.

We recommend that you take a moment and set a password to access your watch, as well as activate the Find My iPhone feature. This will give you a chance to get your watch back if you lose it or it gets stolen by a pickpocket.

Without iPhone

Developers from Apple have long ago transformed the “smart watch” from a tool inseparable from a smartphone into an independent gadget that can easily cope with any tasks. Including “Couple Breakup”. Moreover, for such cases there are two options for action:

Through the WatchOS operating system menu

  1. Open “Settings”, go to “General” and “Reset”, and then select “Erase content and settings” and agree to begin the procedure. As practice suggests, it will take from 2 to 5 minutes to complete the cleaning;
  2. And, as in the case of resetting settings via iPhone, you should immediately agree to save a backup copy if in the future the watch will be paired with the smartphone again. Don’t forget about saving or deleting cellular data.

By emergency methods

The second “Reset” option is applicable in cases where the password code that can unlock the screen is forgotten. The situation is common, but not fatal - just repeat the algorithm of actions described below and no longer forget about the safety measures taken.

The first step is to be sure to charge the watch (in some cases, the cleaning procedure starts without power sources, but is it worth risking time and starting the procedure all over again?). The second is to press and hold the side button until an interface appears on the screen with a choice of the next action (there are three options - display a medical card, contact support for help, or turn off the watch). There is no need to immediately press the “Off” button - just point your finger, press and hold.

If the procedure is carried out correctly, the proposed actions will change to the only available option - “Erase content and settings.” As in the cases described above, the procedure begins almost immediately, but first, a backup copy is created and transferred to the cloud, and then a method for saving the selected communication tariff is selected.

And, although the first method, based on going to “Settings,” seems “correct,” in fact, resetting using the second method is faster and much more convenient. One of the limitations is the need to look for a charger, but if the actions are performed at home, then there should be no problems here either.

Light search

You can use not only the sound signal, but also the flash of light itself, quite simply. This method greatly simplifies the search for iPhone using iWatch, and in low light conditions you can activate it in the following way:

  1. Swiping up on the main screen will bring up the widget menu.
  2. Scroll left to Apple Watch settings.
  3. Press and hold the search button for iPhone. But be careful not to press too hard, as Force Touch may be triggered.
  4. Ready. Now your iPhone will, in addition to a sound signal, also flicker with an LED flash.

Find a lost iPhone using Apple Watch

How to find Apple Watch on a map?

If you've lost your Apple Watch and want to know exactly where it is in the world, you can do so from the Search app. Whether it's the official app or the web browser, you can see the location of your registered devices with Apple Maps so you can find yourself instantly.

To access from your computer, visit icloud.com/search and sign in with your Apple ID.

The problem will be that if your Apple Watch is a model without a data connection, it won't show up on the map unless it's connected to a Wi-Fi network or to the iPhone itself.

Control media on iPhone and Apple TV

Typically, a media management app will automatically appear on Apple Watch when you play content. If this does not happen, go to the applications menu and click on the “Now Playing” application.

The interface here is as simple as possible, you can switch tracks, videos, pause. Volume is controlled by the Digital Crown.

Advanced functions are also available for controlling Apple TV from the watch (in addition to pausing and switching tracks): scrolling content back/forward for 10 seconds, and if you click on the remote control icon at the bottom of the application, a full-fledged Apple TV control interface opens, where you can navigate through the menu, scroll through and select content to play.

What does "i" mean and where is it located?

Since the watch has a small display, the interface uses many icons instead of the usual inscriptions. Most of them are intuitive, but there are also some about which there is no information. Among them is the “i” icon. The symbol is not a button used to control the device. It appears after turning on the watch and selecting the language.

The icon is located at the top of the watch screen above information about the need to turn on the iPhone and synchronize the devices. During the pairing process, the red dot moves to the right side of the bottom of the smartwatch screen.

By default, pairing is created automatically. If for some reason this cannot be done, synchronization can be done manually. In this case, the symbol "i" will be used. When synchronizing automatically, the icon is for informational purposes only. Immediately after the process starts, it moves down and shows that pairing has started.

The red button will also appear if, for some reason, the pairing is re-created. If devices were synchronized manually, then in the future this process will not be able to occur automatically.

What can I do if my Apple Watch doesn't show up on the map?

If your watch is completely disconnected you have no choice but to prepare the way for a possible connection. To do this, it activates Lost mode and prepares a message so that if someone finds the watch and connects to any network, it forces the device to go into Lost mode to ask for a password for any recovery action.

You should also change the password for your Apple ID to prevent them from using other watch-related services. Finally, contact the police to report the lost item. Don't forget to take your watch's serial number with you, you can find it in the original box.
