Weather applications and widgets for smartphones are getting better and better every year: more detailed information appears, the interface becomes more convenient. Such applications are very popular, because everyone wants to know whether today it is worth taking an umbrella with them or not, so competition and the quality of programs are growing. These have become much more accurate in recent times thanks to meteorologists who are using advanced technology to create highly reliable weather forecasts right down to the city's area. In this article we have collected the best of them!
Accuweather
Quite a famous weather app. Many weather apps on various phones use this service to display the weather in their apps. Features are standard for the application. Weather for a day, several days, hourly. There is support for Android Wear. The application recently received an updated design and now looks quite decent. The application has a subscription, but the necessary data is available without a subscription.
The Weather Channel
The Weather Channel has hourly, 36-hour and 10-day forecast options, as well as wind speed, humidity, UV index, visibility, dew point and pressure. The app also has a weather-related video section. In it you can see clips from all over the world.
The application is intuitive and easy to use. It doesn't have all the information you need on one page like other apps, but you'll get additional information like ski conditions, pollen levels, and cold data. Most data can be clicked on to see detailed information or check the radar and maps.
The app offers four simple screen widgets that show the temperature and time in the selected area. The application is free, but it contains advertising.
YoWindow - accurate weather on your phone screen
YoWindow can be called a unique weather application for Android. You can move your finger across the screen and the application in real time will nicely show how it will be in reality. Turn time and watch how the weather changes throughout the day. Just swipe your finger across the screen from left to right.
YoWindow has painted Living Landscapes. Birds sing and animals walk in the village. The city is filled with people and cars. Planes land at the airport. And sheep are walking in the valley.
Installing a system widget on Android OS
The procedure for installing the weather and your city on the main screen of your smartphone is as follows:
- Long press on an area free of shortcuts on your phone's home screen until the context menu appears;
- In the menu that appears, tap on “Widgets”;
- In modern phone models they are grouped into small groups. Find the “Weather” widget, tap on it;
- Several grouped weather widgets will open. Click on the one you like, and without lifting your finger from the screen, transfer the image to the main screen of your phone;
- On most widgets, you can adjust the size by changing its borders.
Place your favorite widget on your home screen
On some manufacturers (for example, on Xiaomi phones), the widget menu is called up using a two-finger movement called a “pinch”. This name was not chosen by chance, since you place two fingers on the phone screen and synchronously bring them closer to each other, performing an imaginary “pinch.”
Use "pinch" to bring up the widget menu
If you have an older version of Android OS, then widgets can be found in the Applications menu.
Weather Weather
Weawow Weather is a beautiful weather app for Android without ads. It provides detailed weather forecasts for up to 10 days. You'll also find detailed information on temperature, chance of rain, humidity, air quality, wind speed, UV index and more. The app covers all regions of the world and has seven weather data providers, including MET Norway, Weatherbit, Open Weather Map, AccuWeather and Foreca. The last two are only available to those who have made a donation.
Yahoo Weather
The main screen of Yahoo Weather is very beautiful, but not very informative: it only shows the current and predicted temperature. If you need more detailed information, welcome to the various sections of the application.
The Yahoo Forecast section includes hourly and five-day forecasts. The Wind and Pressure panel displays the current wind speed, direction, and atmospheric pressure. Metrics are placed in the notification bar, but not by default. You will need to activate them in the Settings section.
The Sun and Moon section shows the current position of the Sun in the sky, the current phase of the Moon and the time of sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, it is impossible to view such data about tomorrow, which would be extremely useful.
There are six widget options to choose from, which essentially have the same functionality and differ only in size.
Geometric Weather
Geometric Weather is one of the relatively new apps on Android, but it already has a lot of fans. The app has a clean and elegant design. You get access to hourly and daily weather forecasts for up to 15 days. The app provides users with two sources of global weather data and three for regional data. The usual weather data is also available: temperature, air quality, wind, UV index, humidity, barometric pressure, visibility and cloud cover.
Additionally, Geometric Weather supports dark mode and comes with weather live wallpapers as well as 11 widgets. The application can be downloaded and used for free. There are no ads or in-app purchases in the app.
How to set weather conditions on iPhone
By default, the weather widget is available in your phone's Notification Center. If it's not there, then you've probably turned off location tracking for the Weather app on your iPhone.
To enable location, go to Settings - Privacy - Location Services and turn them on. Then scroll down the same screen and tap on “Weather”. Here, select either “Always” (preferred) or “When using the application.” Now check if you can see the weather widget in your iPhone's Notification Center.
If you don't see the weather, open the Weather app. If prompted, allow the app to track your location (while using the app or always).
Another reason for the lack of a notification widget is due to the weather display being disabled on the iPhone.
To fix it, do the following:
- Swipe from left to right on your iPhone screen to open the Notification Center widgets section on your gadget;
- On the home screen, scroll down and tap on the "Edit" option;
- When prompted, enter the lock code;
- On the Add Widgets screen, scroll down to the Add More Widgets section and click the + button located next to the Weather widget. Then click on “Done”;
- Now open the Notification Center section on your phone. You will be able to see the current weather information on the screen.
If it still doesn't appear, turn off your device completely, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
