Many of us use email frequently, receiving hundreds of emails a day. By default, many users are accustomed to using Gmail to work with mail, but with each new version it becomes clumsy, buggy, and supports third-party services worse and worse.
Fortunately, the Play Store has quite a few different email clients for each user. Many large companies like Yandex or mail.ru produce their own email clients, but small companies also make their own email clients. This list contains the best applications for working with mail on Android.
Spark – Mail for Gmail, mail.ru, Yandex and Outlook
Spark is designed for advanced email users. It automatically prioritizes emails to help you focus on what's important. The same intelligence is present in the notifications system, and Spark will only alert you to emails from people you know. Other great features include smart search, quick replies, email scheduling, scheduled emails, and more.
The app also allows you to collaborate on emails with your team. You can have public drafts, private comments, and email links to share. Additionally, Spark works with all major email providers.
ProtonMail
We've all heard about the Gmail privacy policy breach that occurred in 2022. If you haven't trusted Google since then, then ProtonMail is made especially for you. The service offers end-to-end email encryption, making it very secure and reliable. In addition, you can set timers to self-destruct some emails after sending. You can also protect your emails with a password so that only the recipient can read them.

Yandex Mail
Mail application from Yandex. Perfect for users who use Yandex services. Yandex Mail supports major email services, so you can easily connect Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and other services.
The application has built-in antispam, support for a dark theme, flexible filtering settings and zen. Mail can be downloaded for offline use, there is a built-in attachment viewer, and much more. Yandex Mail is an excellent alternative to the boring Gmail, especially for users who use Yandex Browser or Yandex Launcher.
Aqua Mail
Aqua Mail is another good email app for Android. The app offers multiple customization options, allowing users to personalize the look and feel of the app. How Aqua Mail does not store your email data on its servers. Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Outlook is an email application from Microsoft. The app is completely free, has no ads and works with Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, Gmail and Yahoo Mail. Outlook doesn't have a lot of customization options, but it does have a simple, elegant design. You have three tabs—email, search, and calendar—to keep everything simple and clear. Integrations for Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneDrive are also present. For people who are dependent on Microsoft services, this application is a great option, especially in conjunction with their proprietary Microsoft Launcher or OneNote.
CloudMagic
The CloudMagic application has received the highest award from The Webby Awards and has earned many positive ratings from experts. It works with a large number of email services, and setting up each of them will take you no more than a few seconds. In general, the main emphasis when creating CloudMagic was on ease of use. But this does not mean at all that the application has reduced functionality.
The most interesting features of this email client are integration with many popular services (Wunderlist, Todoist, Evernote, OneNote, Trello, Zendesk, Salesforce.com, Asana, Instapaper, OmniFocus, and so on), the ability to configure synchronization settings for each folder, and a convenient sending function files from Dropbox, iCloud Drive and other cloud services.

The application does not store your email data on its servers. In addition, it does not contain advertising or any analytics. The free version of the application is quite multifunctional. The application is suitable for users who care about their privacy.

What's your favorite Android email app?
The "best" email app for Android is the one you like, because no matter how many cool features it has, it's important that you like it and don't get in the way of it. You'll work well with any of the Android email apps above. And if you want another free option, check out Spark and why it's worth a look
Are you an Android user who is connected to the Apple iCloud ecosystem? Choose one of the email apps that supports iCloud, then read about how to access iCloud on your Android devices.
Gmail
Like Microsoft's Outlook app, the Gmail app may seem like it's only for Gmail users, but it can be your email client for other providers too, such as Outlook.com, Yahoo Mail or any servers that support IMAP and POP3, Exchange and Office 365, and much more, although the setup may not be entirely trivial. The application is constantly growing, chats and meetings for video calls have appeared in it.
GMail is installed on most Android devices, so it has some advantages. If you were looking for email on Samsung, then 100% you already have Gmail installed. The app is easiest to use if you only have Google accounts. Gmail has great search, but many users won't want to use it due to privacy concerns and the amount of data Google collects.
Airmail
Airmail is a powerful and customizable third-party email client for iOS users. The app looks absolutely amazing and has one of the most attractive user interfaces of any email app on this list. When it comes to features, Airmail doesn't disappoint.
The app provides features such as customizable scrolling gestures, 3D Touch support for email, and attachment previews . Also, attachments, repeat, bulk editing, unification of mailboxes and third-party application integration with applications such as Trello, Evernote, Slack, Things 3 and many others.
One of my favorite features of Airmail is the custom filter, which allows me to create custom filters and save them so I can quickly retrieve important emails. People who use Airmail are happy using the application and if you have an iPhone, you should try Airmail.
Supported email services: Gmail, Exchange EWS, IMAP and POP3.

Mail.ru mail
I immediately did not want to include mail from the company mail.ru in this list because of the company’s dubious rating, as well as the badge in the form of the number 1 on the program icon in the Play Store (this badge symbolizes creative impotence). But if you take a closer look, the mail client for Android from mail.ru is very good, especially considering how many users use mail.ru as their main mail.
The application supports Mail.ru, Yandex, Gmail, Yahoo, Rambler and others. In addition to mail, there is also a calendar, tasks, calls, cloud storage, weather and others. If you use mail.ru services, then this email program is suitable for you.
Edison Email
Edison is another good email app. Edison is fast and supports almost all email services and providers. Plus, you get the feature of tagging important incoming messages, just like Outlook or Gmail.
The app also makes it easy to unsubscribe from unwanted emails and block tracking pixels (if you don't know what those are, ignore them). The built-in assistant can search for things like bills, tickets, travel plans and more, tell you about upcoming meetings, due dates and more.
Choosing the best email program for an Android smartphone
Reader rating for this article: 3.8
(21)
Every Android smartphone comes with an email application installed right out of the box. And often not even one! Google installs its Gmail without fail, and the smartphone manufacturer simultaneously offers its solution.
As a result, most users choose one of these programs, not even suspecting that there are much more convenient and functional applications that can make working with email much easier.
We tested the most interesting and popular email clients for Android, selecting the best of them. Now the choice is yours:
Microsoft Outlook
|
One of the best email apps! The developers managed to combine wide functionality with a laconic design. The program looks like this:
A distinctive feature is the Mail Sorting function based on artificial intelligence:
By enabling this option, the application will automatically begin to analyze and sort all emails into important and unimportant so that you can focus on what really needs your attention. Moreover, notifications and icon icons can be enabled only for important emails, ignoring the rest.
For example, messages from people will have a much higher priority and will be displayed in a separate list, and everything else (mailings\automatic notifications\promotional offers) will fall into the Other section:
Also, you can independently “tell” the program which emails are of higher priority. To do this, just open the message and select Move to Sorted tab in the menu:
There is also a very convenient function for quickly unsubscribing from unwanted mailings. In the same menu (see screenshot above), select Unsubscribe and the application sends a request to exclude your email address from a specific newsletter.
There is also a standard message filter:
What did you like?
- Very fast and stable work + constant updates
- A general list of incoming messages from all accounts (no need to go to each mailbox individually to check new messages)
- Quick gestures (we indicate in the application what should be done with the letter if you swipe left or right on it in the list)
- Smart sorting of letters
- Do not disturb function (you can specify days or hours during which the application will not notify about new messages)
What didn't you like?
- In the general list of letters it is not clear which mailbox this or that letter came to
- The application has a built-in calendar that cannot be completely disabled
Blue Mail
|
What happens if you combine an email program and a to-do list? Apparently, this is exactly the question the developers of the Blue Mail application asked themselves. Indeed, in addition to a convenient design and many settings, there is a rather non-standard function, which we will discuss below.
But first, let's look at the general appearance of the program:
There are often situations when you need to respond to a letter not immediately, but after certain actions, or the letter itself contains information that will be needed in the future to complete certain tasks. What to do in this case? You can somehow mark the message with a flag, or unmark it as read (so you don’t forget to return to it later).
In the case of Blue Mail, all you have to do is swipe the message to the right and select the Snooze icon:
After this, the letter is placed in the Task List:
By the way, when adding a letter to the To-Do List, the application will first specify the deadlines in order to then remind you about this message:
The application has very flexible design settings. In addition to choosing a color scheme, here you can also switch day and night modes (manually or by schedule), choose the application style (navigation icons at the top or bottom) and much, much more. Here, for example, is what the same list of messages looks like, only with different settings:
Interestingly, the dark theme automatically changes not only the application interface, but also the appearance of the letter itself (the white background automatically changes to dark).
What did you like?
- Great idea and good implementation of combining an email client and a to-do list
- Dark theme support
- Very fine tuning of the application appearance
- Supports multiple accounts with the function of combining them into a common list of messages. What’s important is that each mailbox can be assigned its own color, which makes it easy to see which mailboxes received letters.
- Sorting the entire mailbox by contacts (who wrote to us or to whom we sent letters). By selecting any contact, you will immediately see all related letters
What didn't you like?
- The other side of the coin (in this case, the rich functionality) is that the program is overloaded; it is easy for an inexperienced user to get confused in all the settings and functions
Email -Fast & Secure mail
|
The main feature of this program (besides the speed and minimalist design) is the intelligent assistant. The application itself looks like this:
The Assistant automatically creates sections related to your mail in the application menu. For example, if the application detects at least one mailing list, the Subscriptions item will appear in the menu:
When you open it, you will see a list of all mailings you have subscribed to:
But what’s most amazing is that you just need to click the blue icon with a cross to the right of a certain newsletter and the application will immediately unsubscribe you from it!
In addition to mailings, the assistant understands and separates letters containing air tickets and parcel tracking into separate sections.
Special mention should be made about the speed of operation - this is the fastest application of all that we tested. In addition, there is an interesting function - Cancel action. In the program settings, you need to specify the time (in seconds) during which you can cancel deleting or even sending the letter.
As in all the programs we reviewed, here you can also add any number of accounts and combine them into a common list of incoming messages. True, it is impossible to understand where the letter came from.
What did you like?
- The most convenient work with subscriptions and mailings (quick viewing, the ability to unsubscribe from any mailing in one click)
- Very fast and responsive application
- Function to cancel sending/deleting a letter
- Laconic design
What didn't you like?
- There is no Russian interface
- In the general list of all accounts, it is impossible to understand which specific mailbox a particular letter came to
BlackBerry Hub
|
This is not just an email program, but a whole aggregator of all incoming correspondence, be it emails, SMS or messages from various instant messengers. BlackBerry Hub looks like this:
If all previous applications are able to display a general list of incoming letters from different accounts, then the Hub application, as already mentioned, adds all other events to this list itself - missed calls, new SMS, messages from social networks and instant messengers.
This way, you don't have to individually check all your apps for new messages; you just need to open the Hub.
We will not focus in detail on all the functions and operating principles of this program, since we recently had a detailed review of Blackbbery Hub, but we will only briefly list the pros and cons of this solution.
What did you like?
- An original idea to combine all incoming correspondence in one place
- Support for a large number of gestures (for example, you can “pinch” to filter only unread messages)
- Dark theme (great for AMOLED displays)
- The ability to assign each account its own color, so that later you can conveniently view the general list of messages
What didn't you like?

- Despite the great idea to combine everything “under one roof,” the implementation failed. If all letters are opened directly in Hub, then any other message (SMS or messenger) will be opened in another application (for example, Viber or SMS application). This greatly spoils the impression of the product, since you expect the same behavior for all types of incoming messages.

K-9 Mail
K-9 Mail is one of the oldest email clients for Android. So to speak, for retro lovers. It's fallen into the background a bit over the past few years, but the app got a new design this July. K-9 is open source and values privacy. It also supports almost all email service providers.
The main features of the program are notifications depending on the account, OpenPGP encryption, dark theme, and a shared inbox.
MailDroid
MailDroid is a completely free email app for Android users and is one of the oldest email clients on the Play Store.
In an era where popular email apps like Newton or Astro Mail are either shutting down or being bought by big companies, MailDroid remains available to users for free. This means that you can be sure that you will be able to use this email client for many years without any fear.
Talking about its features, the USP of this application is that it is a pure email client, which means that it does not have an internal server that looks at your emails. You simply set up POP, IMAP, Exchange connections and the client talks directly to the server.
On top of this, you get access to all the other features we've come to expect from a good email client, such as the ability to snooze emails and send them later, custom mail rules, robust search, rich signature support, different notification styles, and more.
Supported email services: Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL Mail, Outlook, POP, IMAP and more.
