The abbreviation stands for: Specific Absorption Rate (specialists know the concept as “specific absorption rate”). The smartphone absorbs energy generated through an electromagnetic field. Chronological segment – 1 second. The indicator is measured in Watts per kilogram. The parameter value may vary within insignificant limits. Here's what to consider:
- The quality of communication (if it deteriorates, the effect on our body worsens).
- Switching between towers.
- Device model.
What is the optimal radiation level in smartphones?
The optimal value is considered to be 1 W/kg - with such absorption of harmful radiation, our health is not in danger. At 2 Watts per kilogram, biological tissues overheat by an average of 0.3 degrees Celsius. The effect can last for a long time. If the level reaches “ten”, you feel hot (this indicates heating of the tissues to 37°). The highest indicator is 50-100. With such numbers there is a risk of burns.

Manufacturers are required to provide this information to customers, so the data is not difficult to find. The current SAR level of mobile phones in tables is published on specialized resources. A typical example is the devicespecifications.com service. Information about your phone can be obtained using the internal search engine.

If you follow these simple guidelines and you use a low SAR smartphone, you expose your body to a significantly reduced level of radiation.

How to reduce SAR
The level of Galaxy and Mi may differ - this is normal. Have you had any luck checking your parameters? The harmful effects of the gadget on the body can be reduced. Here are some tips:
- hold the case near your ear by the lower part;
- avoid socializing inside vehicles;
- if the base station is far from you, talk less;
- actively use the speakerphone function and headset;
- refuse cases and covers;
- When dialing someone else’s number, do not rush to bring the gadget to your ear - wait for the connection.
Top safest smartphones by radiation level
Recently, extensive research was carried out initiated by ICRT and Roskachestvo. It turned out that Samsung is the most harmless to the human brain. The safest smartphone is the Galaxy S7 Edge. The radiation level of this device is 0.264 W/kg. Let us remind you that the research was carried out exclusively on Russian territory.
Things are much worse for Apple. Despite all their positive qualities, devices with an apple on the body are quite harmful. Using SAR emission levels as a safety basis, the top five would look something like this (data varies depending on the statistical organization):
- Galaxy S7 Edge.
- Asus ZenFone 3.
- Galaxy A5.
- Lenovo Moto Z.
- OnePlus 3.

How to Find Out the SAR Level of Your Phone

If you want to know how much radiation is emitted by your phone, but you cannot find your model in the statistics that we have presented so far, you can check the FCC SAR Database for better results.
Here are a few simple instructions on how to do that:
- Locate the FCC ID number on your phone (check the case or behind the battery)
- Go to https://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid
- Insert the ID number in the required forms
- Click “Search” and find your smartphone

Manufacturers' response
Apple and Samsung did not comment on the fact that a lawsuit was filed against them, but responded to the publication of the results of the Chicago Tribune study. Both manufacturers deny that the actual radiation readings of their smartphones do not correspond to the declared ones.
Apple iPhone 7, like Samsung Galaxy S8, also has a lot of noise
According to Apple representatives, all iPhone smartphones, including the iPhone 7 participating in testing, were tested by the FCC and received a certificate from the agency. The smartphones were also tested by regulators in other countries in the geography of their distribution. The presence of all these permits, a company employee noted, confirms the fact that the level of security of smartphones meets the requirements of regulatory authorities.
Samsung also stated that Galaxy smartphones sold in the United States meet the requirements of the Federal Communications Commission. There were no clarifications about other countries.

Sometimes the difference is sixfold, which makes you think about the advisability of buying an “apple”. The Xiaomi brand has proven itself well. Keep in mind that when buying a new smartphone, the SAR level is just one of the many features that you need to check, but not one that should be a deal breaker.
However, if you are looking for the lowest possible specific absorption rate, you have plenty to choose from and many reputable brands as well.
Here are the latest smartphones which have the lowest and safe SAR values (0.1 to 0.5)

Unfortunately only two of the latest smartphones (among the popular ones) make it to the grade of safe SAR levels – The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the Note 10 Plus (check latest prices on Amazon).
However, the lowest SAR value comes from Verykool Vortex RS90, which is only 0.18. However, I've not listed it because it is not at all a popular phone.
There you have it! The lowest radiation emitting smartphones available on the market in 2022 offers a large selection of brands and technological possibilities with relatively reduced SAR levels.

Meizu
For all their advantages, Meizu smartphones failed to achieve impressive results (with the exception of the M5 note). M5s has 1.27. Of course, this cannot be compared with Samsung, but it is not Apple either.
There are no frankly harmful models on the market. Even phones with SAR levels approaching two are nonsense. So don’t worry about the safety of soft tissues - manufacturers adhere to established standards.
