The Siri Remote is radically different in its capabilities from the vast majority of similar devices, but its appearance and miniature size carefully hide these facts. Externally, Siri Remote seems to be a rather simple product, having only six buttons and, for reasons incomprehensible to the ignorant user, visually divided into two parts - the upper matte and the lower glossy. The latter can be explained very simply. The upper part of the remote control is a touch panel with the ability to confirm by pressing. Well, the varnished surface of the lower half does not carry any functional load.

Depending on the application, some of the buttons on the remote control can perform different functions, but by default they are designed to control the playback of the current track, go to the previous page, exit to the main menu screen, adjust the sound volume and activate the Siri voice control function.

Inside the remote control there is a Bluetooth module, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a microphone and a rechargeable battery, the capacity of which is unknown, but the manufacturer claims that the remote control will operate without recharging for several months. For such a rich filling, the thickness of the Siri Remote case is alarmingly small - just over six millimeters. In this case, the lower part of the body and the side edges are made of a solid molded metal plate. The remote control is not afraid of dust, fingerprints and even scratches, and it looks much more interesting than the TV set-top box itself.

But several negative reviews about the fragility of Siri Remote have already appeared on the Internet. Even if dropped from a small height, there is a high probability of breaking the glass touch panel, and the cost of the remote control purchased separately is approximately half the cost of the entire set with a 32 GB set-top box. It is unlikely that you will be able to put the remote control in some kind of protective case, since full work with the touch panel involves using its entire area, including its borders. The cover will inevitably hide part of the surface, which is unacceptable.

There is only one way out - to use the strap proposed by the manufacturer itself, which is attached to the Lightning connector, intended for charging the built-in battery and located at the bottom end of the case. The strap is made of soft-touch leather and has an adjustable loop to ensure a comfortable and secure fit on the wrist. The connector fits quite tightly, and to remove the strap you need to press a couple of small buttons on the sides, so accidental removal of the strap is practically impossible. The cost of the strap is about 1,200 rubles, which is not so little for such a simple product.

With movies, TV series and music, we believe everything is clear and so, the Photos item provides access to your photos in iCloud, Search is a global text search for all available services, Computers is setting up access to the iTunes library on your local computer (for this, in Home Sharing must be enabled in iTunes settings).

As you can see, the list of available services does not include various Netflix, HBO, Hulu and other services that were available in previous versions of Apple TV. Of course, they haven't gone away - they're just now presented as separate applications that the user downloads from the App Store. The structure of the application store is very similar to what the owner of iOS devices sees: on the Featured page, the user is offered the most popular programs/games and those applications that Apple currently recommends. Which, however, is quite expected - as mentioned above, tvOS is a modified iOS, and the task of porting mobile applications to the big screen, apparently, is solved relatively easily. Among the existing applications, in addition to various video-on-demand and streaming services, we can mention the Plex media center, clients of various TV channels (CNBC, Nat Geo, Reuters, CNN, Al Jazeera and many others), an IPTV player, and a library of free classic films. Virtual fireplaces are particularly popular here - a regular looped video of a burning fireplace with the soothing crackling of firewood (as a rule, one fireplace in the application is free, the rest are sold for a small amount).

The remote control is capable of tracking its position in space - this is not used in the menu (it cannot select items like a pointer), but is actively used to control games, for example, in racing, where it plays the role of a steering wheel. Several races in the television version of Asphalt 8, by the way, showed good graphics and decent performance, but periodic slowdowns and stuttering of the picture were still observed. The ease of control depends on the nuances of its implementation in each specific game, but in general it can be stated that it turns out to be quite acceptable - of course, the remote control is not a gamepad, but the touchpad on it is not a full-fledged replacement for the touch screen of a smartphone or tablet, but you can adapt to it possible, especially since most games offer casual gameplay, and more complex ones usually support an optional gamepad.

Of course, like previous versions of Apple TV, the fourth-generation model also supports AirPlay, which allows you to stream any content from Mac and iOS to your TV screen. True, if videos/photos were played back without any particular complaints, game streaming suffers from noticeable lag and periodic slowdowns, so turning the iPhone into a gaming console with a large TV screen using the new Apple TV still won’t work.

Unfortunately, the age-old problem of the App Store - regional restrictions - also appears in the case of the new Apple TV. Only users with an American Apple ID receive full functionality and the maximum number of applications in the store, but if your account is linked to the Ukrainian App Store, you will receive a significantly “stripped down” Apple TV. The main loss is the inaccessibility of Siri for our region (and not only for ours - so far the virtual assistant works in less than a dozen countries and understands five main languages, of which Russian is not included). Further, the Ukrainian user is deprived of access to television series in the iTunes Store - the TV Shows icon simply disappears from the main menu. In the App Store, the convenient breakdown of applications into categories disappears in the same way - the main menu contains only the items “Selection”, “Top Charts”, “Shopping” and “Search”, and at the same time a fairly large number of applications aimed at American market (including a number of clients of foreign TV channels).
