Detailed review of Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G: flagship on a diet

Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite firmware

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite smartphone is codenamed Monet. Release date: May 25, 2022.

A lightweight version of the flagship Mi 10, featuring good cameras, good battery life and 5G support. Only the global version of the smartphone is available for sale; versions for the Chinese and Indian markets have not been released.

The smartphone body is made of plastic and metal. The older model has a metal frame, and the Lite version has a plastic frame, but the back panel in both cases is made of glass. The tempered glass on the back of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 resists scratches well, but will not survive a drop from a height of more than 1.5 meters.

The phone does not support microSD flash drives; there is no slot for them. But even if it were, no flash drive can compare in speed with the UFS 2.1 type memory installed in the Mi 10 Lite.

Performance

The smartphone is equipped with an energy-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor manufactured using the 7 nm process technology. It is quite productive and also uses battery power in a gentle mode. The graphics are powered by a Qualcomm Adreno 620 chip at 650 MHz.

Mi 10 Lite uses LPDDR4X type RAM modules. They are distinguished by sufficient power and good energy efficiency, although they are inferior in speed to LPDDR5. The amount of pre-installed RAM varies depending on the modification: the top version is equipped with 8 GB of RAM. For the needs of an ordinary user, 6 GB is quite enough; there is little point in overpaying for the amount of RAM.

The smartphone has a built-in high-speed UFS 2.1 storage device. It's fast enough and doesn't use up much battery power. The top version of the phone is equipped with 256 GB of storage: it is better to choose this option, since there is no slot for a microSD memory card in the Mi 10 Lite. This is a modern trend for almost all flagships, there is nothing surprising about it.

Comparison of Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite and Mi Note 10 Lite smartphones

Spring 2022 turned out to be incredibly fruitful for new smartphones. Xiaomi Mi 10, Xiaomi Mi Note 10. New lines, new features and in each line there are several smartphones, with quite serious differences.

To make it easier to understand Xiaomi smartphones, we will try to derive a classification.

The main flagships are the MI series with numerical differences. These are Xiaomi Mi 10, Xiaomi Mi 9, Xiaomi Mi 8, 6 and so on. The 10th flagship series version dates back to 2022. 9 by 2022, 8 by 2022 - it’s easy to understand the release date by the name of the series. The flagship line offers premium quality in all respects - the best screen, maximum performance, photoblock, security and, of course, maximum cost.

The Mi Note line is a sub-flagship designer line. This means that there are flagship indicators in a number of parameters - cameras, software, but the processor is a little simpler, the price is a little lower.

Lite after the name of the line means a simplified version. And here we need to figure out exactly which functions were cut.

Let's compare Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite and Mi Note 10 Lite - the youngest representative of the flagship and sub-flagship design line.

Both smartphones were released in the spring of 2022 and received 5G support, fashionable this year. The 5G modem is built directly into the chipset and provides truly incredible data transfer speeds - you can send streaming video in high resolution, conduct online streams, and conferences without slowdowns. Compared to 4G networks, the 5G standard increases data transfer speeds by 3-10 times. A colossal technological leap.

Support for NFC – contactless payments around the world is present

.

The fingerprint sensor in the screen, face recognition, glass protection - everything is in place.

The quality of the screens is premium in both cases. The AMOLED matrix is 6.47 inches for Mi Note 10 Lite and 6.57 inches for Mi 10 Lite. The resolution, aspect ratio, and compact teardrop-shaped cutout for the front camera are identical. The 16 MP front cameras are also identical with portrait, smart modes, and slow-motion video recording. The ratio of screen area to front panel is almost the same. Thin frames, neat execution.

Differences between Mi Note 10 Lite and Mi 10 Lite photo blocks

The Mi Note 10 Lite photo block is a more modest version of the luxurious Mi Note 10 photo block with a 108 MP camera. It was the world's first smartphone with a resolution of 100 megapixels. The flagship Xiaomi Mi 10 received a 108 megapixel camera only a few months later, but with a 50x combined zoom and optical stabilization.

· The main photo sensor of the Mi Note 10 Lite is Sony IMX686 with a resolution of 64 megapixels, f/1.9, autofocus, laser focusing and a decent number of professional settings that allow you to take pictures of the highest quality and resolution. Note. By default, the camera does not shoot at 64 megapixels. You need to activate the 64 MP mode in the settings menu.

· 8 MP ultra-wide lens f/2.2, 1/4″

· 2 MP f/2.4 macro camera

· 5 MP f/2.4 portrait lens

An incredibly powerful professional photo unit, mainly due to the 64 MP sensor. Although an ultra-wide lens is useful and a macro camera is definitely not superfluous.

Photoblock Mi 10 Lite also has 4 cameras:

  • Main camera 48 MP (ƒ/1.79)
  • Wide-angle lens 8 MP (ƒ/2.2, 120°FoV)
  • Macro camera 2MP (ƒ/2.4)
  • 2 MP depth sensor

In terms of the number of megapixels, the Mi 10 Lite Photoblock loses. But there are nuances - the default settings of the Mi 10 Lite photo unit are better and provide more opportunities for amateur photography.

Only experienced photographers can take full advantage of the 64 MP sensor of the Mi Note 10 Lite, while the photo sensors of the Mi 10 Lite are perfectly controlled by artificial intelligence using object recognition and professional presets.

Power

Mi Note 10 Lite is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset - an improved gaming modification of the Snapdragon 730 chipset with a power increase of about 30% compared to the basic version due to the package of processor commands. RAM 6 GB LPDDR4X. According to Antutu tests, Mi Note 10 Lite received 264 thousand points.

Not a bad indicator for most games and even at maximum resolution. But when working seriously with high-resolution graphics, for example, when processing photos from a 64 MP sensor, slowdowns are inevitable.

Mi 10 Lite received the flagship gaming chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and up to 8 GB of RAM. According to Antutu tests, Mi 10 Lite scores 302 thousand points.

There is a difference in performance and it is significant. Mi 10 Lite is more powerful than its brother from the sub-flagship line. During normal work, communication, Internet surfing, there will be no slowdowns. But when running games, graphic applications, heavy tasks, the difference is obvious.

A rather strange point is that Mi Note 10 Lite does not have support for additional memory cards, although if high-resolution pictures are possible, the need for additional memory cards is obvious.

Mi 10 Lite supports memory cards up to 512 GB.

Autonomy

Mi Note 10 Lite received a champion 5260 mAh battery and 30 W fast charging.

Mi 10 Lite is equipped with a 4160 mAh battery and supports 20W fast charging.

In terms of autonomy, Mi Note 10 Lite takes the lead. Convenient for trips and trips.

Conclusion

The Mi 10 Lite smartphone deservedly belongs to the flagship line and in most respects it easily takes the lead - better performance, better camera performance, despite the weaker main photosensor. Higher overall comfort of use.

For the city, games, active communication, high-quality photos and maximum performance - choose Mi 10 Lite.

We recommend Mi Note 10 Lite for true photography enthusiasts and for cases when you don’t want to carry a case with equipment and lenses. Taking a smartphone out of your pocket and taking a photo with a resolution of 64 megapixels and professional settings is worth a lot. We sincerely recommend it. The ability to charge Mi Note 10 Lite about once every 2-3 days with fairly intensive work is also pleasing.

For leisurely walks through beautiful nature, sleepy streets of foreign cities, admiring sunrises and sunsets - choose Mi Note 10 Lite. And pay attention to the older version with a 108 MP lens. Why not start with the best?

Display

The screen uses an AMOLED panel with excellent color rendering. Blacks on this display really look black. There is also full support for HDR10+ technology, which significantly expands the dynamic range of the picture, giving colors richness. The brightness of 610 nits is enough even for the sunniest days, in some situations it is even excessive. The pixel density of 401 dpi allows you to see a uniform picture, without individual pixels. FHD+ resolution provides the clearest picture in any conditions.

The AMOLED matrix has extremely low power consumption, which is why it is installed in top-end smartphones. In this phone, the matrix is covered with fifth-generation Corning Gorilla Glass, which resists scratches well and, in theory, can protect the display when the smartphone is dropped from a height of up to 1.5 meters. The protective glass has an oleophobic layer that prevents fingerprints and an anti-reflective coating.

Battery

The capacity of the included 4160 mAh lithium-polymer battery is not particularly impressive. But the battery life in talk mode over a 3G network suggests that everything is in order with the optimization of the smartphone: Mi 10 Lite is capable of working on a single charge in talk mode for more than 26 hours. This result was achieved due to the energy-efficient components of the smartphone hardware. Don’t forget about the optimization of MIUI 12 - this version of the operating system works with the battery much better than the previous one.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite supports fast charging Qualcomm Quick Charge operates at a power of 20 Watts. This allows you to fully restore the battery capacity in just 75 minutes. However, you will have to purchase a charger of the appropriate power separately, since it is not included in the package.

Bottom line

Before meeting Zhenko, I didn’t really understand the meaning of this smartphone. As I said earlier, I put it on the shelf back in June - it doesn't suit me. But then it dawned on me: there are no perfect devices. And everyone has different use cases. And if the camera is important to me, which the Mi Note 10 was very good at, then many people simply don’t use it.

The Mi Note 10 Lite is a good choice if you want a good-looking smartphone with a huge battery. I was really surprised by how long the smartphone lasts.

If you want to play games, then it will do that without any problems - the graphics settings are high, and there is practically no throttling. If you don’t play games, then the smartphone’s power will simply be enough for the next three to four years. And the market also needs such smartphones.

Frame

The frame around the screen in Mi 10 Lite is made of durable plastic. This made it possible to slightly reduce the final cost of the smartphone and also had a positive effect on its weight. The back panel is made of tempered glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and looks beautiful. On the back panel there is a rear camera unit and the manufacturer's logo. The usual fingerprint scanner is not there: it has migrated under the display.

Almost the entire front panel is occupied by the display. The front camera is located in a small drop on the screen, just above it is the front camera. The bottom end included a USB Type-C port for charging the device, a loudspeaker (speaker), a microphone and a SIM card tray. This arrangement is quite unusual. The top end is occupied by a 3.5 mm jack for wired headphones, an additional microphone and an infrared port. Mechanical power and volume control buttons are located on the right side.

The table below shows the dimensions, weight, water protection and colors of the smartphone case.

Sensors and technologies

Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite has a standard set of sensors. There is only a magnetic Hall sensor, although it is not particularly needed. The usual photocell of the fingerprint scanner was replaced with an ultrasonic one, because the photocell cannot be installed in the display. The scanner works as quickly as possible, but sometimes errors occur. Therefore, it is recommended to set up several prints at once.

The smartphone also has the ability to unlock the user's face. This option uses the front camera, so in the dark the function works very poorly and you have to use a fingerprint scanner to unlock it.

Battery

This is the simplest point of today’s comparison, because any of the smartphones presented is equipped with the same battery with a capacity of 5260 mAh , which is quite a lot by modern standards.

This volume is more than enough for Mi Note 10 to work all day under heavy load, and if you use it in normal mode, the battery charge will last for a full two days of use. In addition, the entire line of phones supports fast charging, which allows you to charge the battery from 0 to 58% in 30 minutes. Considering the large battery capacity, this is an excellent result.

Cameras

The rear camera has 4 lenses, one of which has a 48-megapixel sensor. It does its job well, but still the quality of photos and videos is affected by the lack of a good stabilizer. There are sensors such as Omnivision OV48B ƒ/ 1.79 by 48 MP (main), Omnivision OV8856 ƒ/ 2.2 by 8 MP (wide-angle), GalaxyCore GC02M1 ƒ/ 2.4 by 5 MP (depth of field sensor), GalaxyCore GC02M1 ƒ/ 2.4 2 by MP (macro). There is an optical zoom, as well as the ability to record video in 4K format at 30 frames per second. It is possible to record Slo-Mo at 960 FPS.

A good 16 megapixel front camera also takes decent shots. Its main sensor is the Omnivision OV16A10 with an ƒ/ 2.5 aperture, which allows you to get high-quality selfies even without the use of advanced post-processing algorithms (although they are available). During shooting on the front camera, artificial intelligence is activated to control the process. The camera can shoot video in Full HD at 30 frames per second.

Competitors

In official retail, the price of a smartphone varies from 26,990 to 32,990 rubles. Therefore, let's see what Yandex.Market can offer us for this money.

Samsung Galaxy A71

An excellent smartphone with a good camera. In the 6/128 GB version it costs 29,990 rubles. For this money you will get a Snapdragon 730, a 4500 mAh battery and good cameras:

In official retail, Samsung's Note 10 Lite costs 30,990 rubles.

Poco F2 Pro

From the officials it costs much more - 46,990 rubles, but from the unofficials you can get it for about 29.5 thousand. The flagship Snapdragon 865 processor, a camera with similar characteristics, as well as a front camera that comes out of the case:

realme 6 Pro

A smartphone that can easily compete with Mi Note 10 Lite: Snapdragon 720G, 8/128 GB version, has a memory card slot. And even 2x optical zoom. Everything is good, except for one thing: many buyers are very unhappy with this smartphone, which became the prototype of the OnePlus Nord.

For this smartphone they are asking 21,990 rubles, which is significantly cheaper than Xiaomi. But is it worth it?

OPPO Reno 2Z

Another brainchild of the BBK concern. OPPO has released a good smartphone: Helio P90, 8/128 GB version. Everything would be fine if it weren’t for the front camera, which unaesthetically protrudes from the central part of the top edge.

For Reno 2Z, officials are asking 27,990 rubles.

Communications

The smartphone has a communication modem that supports 5G frequencies. Some LTE frequencies are limited at the software level by firmware depending on the selected region. A dual-band Wi-Fi transmitter is installed, capable of simultaneously operating with frequencies of 2.4 and 5 GHz. This significantly increases the speed when connecting to the Internet via a router and improves its stability. The included Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter supports high-quality AptX HD codec and has a special power saving mode.

Sound and multimedia

Mi 10 Lite has a single speaker that provides monophonic sound. However, the sound quality is at a fairly high level. The volume reserve is such that a call can be heard without any problems in the middle of a busy street or on the subway. At maximum volume there is no distortion or wheezing. This speaker is perfect for watching videos on a smartphone. The quality of the speakerphone is also good.

This is one of the few smartphones that provides high-quality sound both in a wired and wireless headset. After all, it supports the high-quality AptX HD codec and is equipped with a 3.5 mm jack. The phone out of the box is capable of playing a large number of audio and video formats.
