How to install Google Play and other Google services on Huawei smartphones

The spread of coronavirus has recently become the main topic discussed in all industries, raising its importance to the absolute level. As a result, the previous trend, centered around Huawei and its confrontation with the US authorities, receded not even into the background, but into the background. In any case, for those who do not use Chinese brand equipment. But those who finally decided to buy it are now trying by hook or by crook to bypass the imposed restrictions and still install Google services. To their delight, this can be done and, most importantly, quite easily and quickly.

Google has banned the installation of its services on Huawei smartphones, but there is a way to bypass the ban

Google wants to return its services to Huawei smartphones. But he can’t yet.

Unexpectedly for everyone, a new tool has appeared on the Internet that allows you to install Google Play on Huawei . It's called Chat Partner. I say “unexpectedly” because a previous tool that served the same purpose was blocked at the request of Google. The search giant, having learned that users of devices of the Chinese brand had the opportunity to circumvent the ban, revoked the license for operating on Android from the application that installed Google services. Fortunately, Chat Partner is now completely free to download.

How to install Google Pay on Huawei

  • If you don't know where to get Chat Partner, download the Chat Partner utility on your Huawei smartphone without support for Google services;
  • Launch Chat Partner and on the main application screen, click Detect Device;
  • Then click Repair Now and wait for Google services to install;

Installing Google services on Huawei smartphones is again possible. But for how long?

  • Complete the installation by pressing the activation key;
  • Log in using your Google account;
  • Open Google Play and install the required applications.

Huawei releases new smartphones, but at the same time forgets to update old and not so old ones.

In fact, the process of installing Google services using Chat Repair is quite simple and straightforward. The only thing that confuses me a little is the need to log in directly in the application window. I understand that this is not a phishing page, but this may not be obvious to everyone. Therefore, if you try to install Google services in this way, be careful and remember that all actions, especially entering the login and password for your account, are performed at your own peril and risk.

How to install Google Play on Android

Like any program on the Android operating system, the Google branded application store can be installed using an APK file. To do this, you need to give your smartphone permission to install applications from unknown sources. Go to “Settings” > “Advanced settings”, select the “Security” tab and activate the toggle switch in the “Allow installation from unknown sources” line.

The names of menu items may differ depending on the smartphone, but the corresponding option is always located in the security settings section. You can also immediately go to the next step, and when you try to launch the installation file, the system itself will offer you the appropriate setting.

Next, you need to download the Play Store APK file to your phone. There are many sites on the Internet where this can be done, but not all of them are safe. We recommend using APKmirror (download link), this is a proven supplier of various programs, with which you will not have any problems. There are different versions of the application available for download, choose the latest one.

After downloading, find and launch the APK file using any file manager and follow the prompts of your smartphone, simultaneously giving all the necessary permissions.

After the installation is complete, you will need the standard Play Market setup: launch the application, log into your account and, if necessary, enter your card details to make payments if you plan to make purchases in the store. No one will just write off money from your credit card, there is nothing to be afraid of, but if you don’t want to do this, just skip the corresponding step by selecting “No, thanks.”

That's all - the process is simple and takes no more than five minutes, after which you can use the Google store and download any applications from there.

How to install Google Play services

Now let's look at what to do if you bought a smartphone from China and by default it comes without Google services, which are necessary for the correct functioning of the application store. This situation is typical for devices running Chinese firmware, since Google does not officially work in China. Therefore, when buying a smartphone on Aliexpress, first find out what firmware it has - global or for the Chinese market.

Installing Google services and Play Market on Chinese smartphones is also not difficult. This can be done in a few clicks using a special installer program called Google Installer. It was originally developed for Xiaomi smartphones, but usually the application works on devices from other manufacturers (for Meizu there is an alternative to Google Apps Installer). You can download the installer from the built-in application store (Mi Market) or as an APK file using the following link.

The application will independently install Google Services and Play Market on the device and make the necessary system settings for their correct operation, after which the phone will be ready for full use.

How to install Google Mobile Services

Chat Repair installs not only Google Play, but also Google Mobile Services, without which the proper operation of all other services of the search giant would be impossible. Thanks to GMS, applications will be able to send you notifications, use geolocation services, update in the background and, what is really important for many, will allow the Google Pay payment service to work. The latter, in the context of the spread of coronavirus, can be a real salvation, since it will allow you to get rid of cash and not collect germs with your bank card from a terminal in a store that has been touched hundreds and thousands of times before.

Huawei decided to compete with Google and launched its own search engine.

Despite the fact that this method of installing Google services is working and, unlike most others, as simple as possible, it is important to understand that its use is not entirely legal. The fact is that Huawei does not buy a license for its services from Google, and therefore does not have the right to use them in its smartphones. Therefore, Google at any time can not only revoke the certificate from Chat Partner, prohibiting its operation, but also block Google Mobile Services installed with its help on Huawei devices. Therefore, when installing Google services, immediately prepare yourself for the fact that, most likely, this is temporary.

Why are there Android phones without Google services?

What are Google Play services - detailed information

Not all smartphones based on the Android operating system have the Google Play service. For example, Chinese devices from Xiaomi offer their own analogue – MiStore. On the one hand, this is an opportunity to promote your own brand and gain additional profit from users downloading applications and games. On the other hand, there is a technical issue. As already mentioned, the operation of the platform is affected by two factors: the version of the operating system or the NFC module. But such phones usually have other resources for downloading.

Chat Partner not working

Just a few days after the launch of Chat Partner, complaints from users began to appear on the Internet, reporting that Chat Partner would not launch . You didn't have to look far for reasons. As it turned out, it was Google that blocked a new way to install Google Play services on Huawei smartphones . The company acted in full compliance with US law, which restricts it from collaborating with Huawei, which is under sanctions. The only surprising thing is how quickly Google responded to what was happening, revoking the certificate from Chat Partner and blocking its applications on devices of the Chinese brand.

Some apps from Huawei's AppGallery do not work without Google Play

We have already told you that Google blocks applications on Huawei smartphones. Google Play Protect antivirus , which is part of Google Mobile Services , scans devices for installed software and the presence of a certificate issued by Google. If there is no certificate, but the search giant’s services and applications are installed, the company simply blocks them. As a result, justice, in Google's view, triumphs, and violators are left with nothing.

How to install applications on Huawei

Petal Search - a new search engine for applications from Huawei

However, now, in order to install applications that are not in the AppGallery on Huawei smartphones, it is absolutely not necessary to act contrary to Google’s rules. Huawei recently introduced its new service called Petal Search . It can be downloaded directly from the AppGallery. It is a universal search engine that searches for the applications the user needs on various Internet sites like APKPure, APKMirror , etc., from where they can be downloaded without any problems. Interestingly, in this way you can even download Google Play to your device, but remember that you perform all actions at your own peril and risk.

What to do if Google Play Services does not want to update?

Sometimes Google Play Services may experience problems and when you try to update or install an application from the Play Market, an error notification appears on the screen. The reasons for this problem can be very different, but the first thing you need to do is clean the Google Play Services . The cleaning procedure is carried out as follows:

Step 1.

  • Expand the settings of your device and in their main menu, find and expand the “ Applications ” category.
  • In the window that appears, move to the “ All ” tab and find “ Google Play Services ” among the applications present on the device. Tap on them to open a page with information about the application.

Thus, you can restore Google Play if any failures occur in the application. However, there are many reasons why errors occur when updating and installing applications from the store. Possible solutions

How to get out of the situation? Frankly speaking, it is very difficult to find words, especially when you yourself have a perfectly working smartphone from Huawei, purchased before the events of 2022. These are truly high-quality gadgets – both technically and software-wise, but the broken alliance with Google has seriously changed the balance of power not in favor of Huawei. Therefore, probably the best option for today is to postpone the purchase until the conflict is resolved.

By the way, if the Democratic candidate wins the American elections, such a turn seems possible, since they will most likely try to reset relations between the United States and China. An equally logical option is to purchase a smartphone from another manufacturer that is not subject to sanctions and, therefore, can provide the user with certified Android and the entire range of Google mobile services. Well, that's the main thing. If you are convinced that you need a Huawei/Honor smartphone, then there are two more options: try using the set of tools that are installed on Huawei by default today and are designed to replace GMS, or look for workarounds to bring some of Google’s services back to life.

Regarding the latter, the situation is ambiguous. There are a lot of options with which you can resurrect Google applications, but many of them do not work or work anyhow, since the company closely monitors all methods of illegal, from its point of view, installation of its applications and services and promptly covers loopholes. Among other things, the performance of each method depends on the versions of Android, the proprietary EMUI shell and other parameters.

In any case, you need to understand that installing Google services bypassing them is a risk. Firstly, no one guarantees the functionality of these applications. Secondly, Google can block their use at any time due to lack of necessary permissions and certificates. Thirdly, all unofficial solutions are provided by unknown enthusiasts from the Internet who may pursue their own selfish goals (exactly how they modified the applications is unknown). Fourthly, during the installation of third-party “crutches” it is sometimes necessary to perform actions that could lead to the loss of Huawei’s official warranty. Having chosen this path, you need to be prepared to periodically search for up-to-date information on specialized forums, repeatedly reset your smartphone to factory settings, independently update firmware, and install applications from unknown suppliers at your own peril and risk.

We specifically did not provide here step-by-step instructions for installing Google services on Huawei/Honor devices. The fact is that these methods quickly lose their effectiveness. In addition, their versatility is highly debatable. At the time of writing, one of the most recent and simplest options was described on the XDA Developers website - we are talking about the Googlefier application, which is an unofficial installer of Google services. To use the solution, you need to download it as an APK from the forum on the above site and install it on your Android smartphone. Googlefier will then ask for the permissions it needs, after which you need to follow the instructions built into it. The complete GMS installation process takes about 10 minutes. XDA Developers representatives said that they have successfully tested Googlefier on Huawei P40 Pro and Huawei MatePad Pro running EMUI 10. Important clarification: this application does not run on devices with EMUI 11. After installing GMS in this way, you can count on normal operation of Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube and even Google Maps. However, the authors do not specify whether Googlefier allows push notifications to work correctly, as well as other applications that use GMS. I repeat that by the time the article is published, this option may no longer work. New methods are most quickly published on the XDA Developers and 4PDA forums.

Can I update my mobile phone after installing GMS?

Many users of Huawei mobile devices without GMS are concerned about what happens when they are installed. As we have already seen, some of these methods are "limited" by the manufacturer or the application developer himself for personal reasons, but as long as they work, we can update the Google applications that we host on our phone in the usual way. from the Play Store we downloaded.

In the same way, you can update the operating system with various patches, but we do not recommend moving from EMUI 10 to EMUI 11 if these Google apps disappear due to Huawei's new move. Nothing should happen, but you also cannot use Googlefier in EMUI 11 , it is possible that when moving from EMUI 10 to the latest version of the system, some applications stop working as before.

Why don't new Huawei phones have Play Store?

After being placed on the US Department of Commerce's Entity List, Google was forced to stop collaborating with the Chinese brand to develop its phones. This means that, as has been the case until now, Chinese smartphones can run an unlicensed version of Android, meaning they cannot use Google Services (GMS). These services allow you to pay by phone, locate it, etc.

Following this blow, Huawei began developing its own phone app services, Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), which, by imitating GMS , allowed it to create its own app store, AppGallery.

However, some Huawei phone owners want to access Google apps on their newly purchased mobile devices, but there is no official way to do so. All you can try is to use these third-party alternatives that come and go from time to time.

How to install Play Market on P40 Lite phone, Mediapad m6 tablet and other Huawei

Fortunately, the old models of the company and its sub-brand continue to work as before, without causing any trouble to their owners. But all owners of new Huawei products will have to either switch to quickly developed proprietary services HMS (Huawei Mobile Service), or look for all sorts of loopholes to get the advantages that all Google products have (fortunately, they exist).

Access to the Play Store via Aurora

It turns out that in order to use branded Google applications, it is not at all necessary to have an in-app purchase store on your device. Instead, you can use an application aggregator, using them to obtain Google services without downloading the Play Market and launching proprietary services for tracking user activity.

The Aurora Store client will cope with this task perfectly, the main feature of which is a high degree of anonymity (more on its importance a little later).

To use this aggregator, just follow these steps:

That's all - download Google applications to your device, automatically gaining access to them after performing the manipulations described above - everything will work, even if we are talking about software such as Google.Maps with mandatory binding to user geodata and Instagram.

Unfortunately, there will be some unpleasant surprises, because you won’t be able to run YouTube or Yula on your Huawei, since the program will refer to the lack of support for Google services, and Aurora, unfortunately, will not help here.

Today it is quite possible to bypass almost any ban. The story of access to Google services for Huawei is no exception. The main thing is to remain anonymous so as not to risk your account, which may be blocked

Main disadvantages:

An alternative to Aurora is the equally easy-to-use Chat Partner tool, which takes just a few seconds to download.

The further algorithm of actions is also not anything super complicated:

Another thing is that the downside of using this client is not limited to the lack of support for any applications. And the most important drawback comes down to the blocking of the auxiliary service, which is carried out by Google itself, as a result of which many users began to complain about Chat Partner not working correctly.

Disadvantages of the service:

Method 2: Googlefier (Emui 10.x)

GoogleFier uses the LZPlay system of the enhanced Mate 30, which is why it has become a favorite tool of developers looking to download and install the Play Store on Huawei phones , as well as the rest of Google's apps.

Installing apps through Googlefier is easy, just install this APK, provide permissions and follow the on-screen instructions. The process may take a few minutes and it is recommended to back up the data on your mobile phone before proceeding with the installation of the Google app. Of course, you can uninstall Googlefier after installing the Google app, or return to previous settings using a button in the app itself.

It works?

As of today, the latest versions of Googlefier allow you to install apps on some Huawei and Honor devices, but there is no confirmation that it works correctly on all phones from both brands.

What does this mean?

If you have a Huawei/Honor phone purchased before 2022, or you plan to purchase such a device second-hand, then most likely everything is fine with Google services on it. Otherwise, a lot depends on the release date and country of purchase, so it is better to check Google certification yourself by opening the “Menu” / “Settings” / “About” in the Google Play Store. If this application is installed on your phone, and in the “Certification in Play Protection” item it is indicated that “Device is certified,” then all Google services will work normally. If you purchase a new Huawei/Honor phone from the official store, you can be sure that it will not have pre-installed Google applications, and this is fraught with difficulties in the future.

The fact is that Google Mobile Services (GMS) is a group of services built into the Android OS that are responsible for the correct operation of both Google applications and many functions of the operating system as a whole. In particular, if GMS is missing or installed incorrectly, there may be problems with authorization through Google accounts in third-party applications, sending push notifications, automatic application updates, as well as failures in the operation of Google Maps and geolocation services.

Obviously, most users take pop-up notifications about messages received in instant messengers for granted. But if the device does not have GMS or a similar set of programs, in order to see whether something has been written to you, you will have to go into each of the applications separately. Also, in recent years, many have begun to actively use applications such as Google Pay, which allow contactless payment for purchases. Obviously, you should not expect normal operation of this service on new Huawei smartphones, since it is subject to the highest security requirements from Google, and the lack of a normal certificate for a smartphone puts an end to working with it.

In addition, by default, new smartphones from the Chinese vendor do not have the Google Play application store preinstalled, so the owner is encouraged to use the analogue from Huawei - AppGallery. As for other familiar services, say YouTube, installing them seems to be a very difficult task, at least for the average user, but more on that later.

An inexperienced reader may wonder: why can’t you use Google services, but you can use the Android OS, although it is also developed by Google? Everything is simple here. By default, Android is a free open source software product (Open Source Project), in the development of which dozens of independent companies take part, and restrictions apply only to closed Google products and services. Therefore, a manufacturer who has deliberately or involuntarily abandoned Google services can continue to use the OS, replacing the missing applications and services with alternative ones.

Why you can’t install Play Market and other Google services directly on Huawei

Sanctions... This penalty is relevant not only for political regimes and specific individuals, but also for individual companies. So the manufacturer Huawei, which has been thriving all these years, was able to feel all the hardships of the sanctions burden imposed on it by no one but the American Government.

This unpleasant event for the company occurred on May 15, 2019, when the then-current President of the United States, Trump, signed a decree on protecting national security in the field of information communications, making further cooperation with Huawei impossible. This was explained by the fact that the company is subject to Chinese law, which makes it quite possible for it to cooperate with the Chinese intelligence service.

As a result of this decision, Huawei lost the opportunity to receive products from Google and other American companies. It is noteworthy that the same fate befell its subsidiary Honor, which also lost access to Android OS and Google services, with all the ensuing consequences.

Similar to the story with ZTE, the United States imposed sanctions on the largest Chinese manufacturer Huawei, depriving it of access to American-made services, including Google products
