Let's be honest - collecting statistics on popular smartphones is very difficult, especially since many companies simply do not publish this data. However, we managed to find publicly available statistics for one of the months of 2022. Should she be trusted? It seems to us that yes, especially since other versions of statistics partly confirm the popularity of certain smartphones. It is also worth noting that over the past few years the share of such companies in the Russian market as Samsung, Huawei, Honor, Apple and Xiaomi has been seriously growing. There is also growth in the field of expensive smartphones costing more than 30 thousand rubles, but they, as you understand, are numerically inferior to much less expensive devices.

The junior smartphone of the A series from Samsung on the Russian market at the time of writing. Apparently, its low cost plays a decisive role.

Sales statistics in Europe.
Interestingly, Samsung showed very good sales in South America (41%). This is also the only region other than North America where Motorola ranks quite high . In Latin America as a whole, almost every fifth smartphone sold carries the “M” logo (18%).

It should be noted that in all the figures given, Huawei sales were taken into account along with Honor sales. The companies parted ways only at the end of the year.

Xiaomi Redmi 7A 2/32GB
It is not surprising that the Xiaomi Redmi 7A is in demand - it is very inexpensive, but has almost everything you need.
The first thing worth noting is the design - yes, the smartphone does not stand out in any way, but at the same time it looks very good, just like a much more expensive model could look like. It uses a 5.45-inch display with a resolution of 1440x720 pixels, a fresh 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chip, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM (for the specified version). Separately, we would like to highlight a powerful battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh, and also - this is extremely rare in this class - protection against splashes, but specifically from splashes, and not from water - do not confuse it.

What smartphones are bought more often?
In some articles I have already talked about the fact that where some companies lost a significant market share at the end of the year, others, on the contrary, showed strong growth. The main direction of the “flow” of customers, naturally, was observed from Huawei to Xiaomi. There were plenty of reasons for this, but there were other changes.
Russia introduces a fine for selling smartphones without Russian applications
This time, the results of the market research were shared by the authoritative agency Counterpoint, which analyzed in detail the performance of smartphone brands in 2022 in various countries around the world.
At the end of last year, the sales leaders in the world as a whole predictably became Samsung, Apple and Huawei. Despite the problems of the latter, good sales in the home region, China's quick recovery from the covid crisis and a large margin of safety allowed the company to maintain its place in the TOP 3 in the world .
These smartphones are purchased more often than others.
It is interesting that if you look at the breakdown by country, then one of these three will top the rating, but in the rest of the TOP 5 for this region there may not be two other leaders in global sales .
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 3/32GB
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 turned out to be very successful. Yes, we won’t see any revelations here - all this is available on other smartphones, but they are usually much more expensive.
It is stated that the back cover is made of glass - we’ll take our word for it, although today it’s difficult to distinguish glass from plastic, to put it mildly. The asset includes new bright colors of the case for every taste. The diagonal of the excellent IPS display is 6.3 inches, high resolution - 2340x1080 pixels. The device is powered by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, memory capacity is 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM.
Note the powerful 4000 mAh battery and fast charging. Users like the bright screen, good quality of the resulting photos, and high battery life.

Where is Huawei best sold?
But Huawei was doing well in Asia. This includes China, India, Mongolia and other countries as far as Japan and Papua New Guinea. In this territory, Huawei sold 19% of the total number of smartphones , that is, every fifth handset. It is interesting that the first four places in the ranking were taken by Chinese companies (Huawei, Vivo, Xiaomi, OPPO) and only then came Samsung with a score of 11%. Apple did not make it into the TOP 5, despite all the love the Chinese have for its products. It can be assumed that India made a big contribution to the statistics, where many inexpensive Chinese devices are sold.

Honor 8A
Budget phone from Honor - nice appearance, low cost.
As is now fashionable, Honor 8A sports a so-called “bezel-less” display. The screen diagonal is 6.09 inches, the resolution can be called classic for this price group - 1560x720 pixels.

Here we see a 6.4-inch high-resolution display, a good dual main camera, a body design similar to other A-series smartphones, a proprietary Samsung Exynos 7904 chip, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. Top 10 of all smartphones
First place: Xiaomi Redmi Note 7
Just like last month, the top smartphone for 16,000 rubles is in first place. Most often they buy the version with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

Second place: Samsung Galaxy A50
At the beginning of the month, the Galaxy A50 ranked third among the most popular smartphones in Russia, but continues to move forward purposefully. This is a balanced smartphone, and I would choose it when compared with Xiaomi, because the brand dictates.

Third place: Apple iPhone XR
It looks like this year the iPhone XR will continue to occupy a leading position: the price has become even nicer, the iPhone 11 has not received any significant differences, and the XR is still a top-end smartphone.

Fourth place: Xiaomi Redmi 7
I would call it an ideal smartphone for a grandma or a schoolchild because it is an affordable phone with a large screen. Grandma will be able to see everything, and it will be convenient for the schoolchild to play with toys. The smartphone also has good battery life and costs around 9,000 rubles.

Seventh place: Samsung Galaxy A10
Galaxy A10 is the choice of those who are not chasing top-end specifications or a 48 megapixel camera. Buyers of this smartphone need calls, social networks, and YouTube to watch. The phone can be found for 8,000 rubles, if not cheaper.

Eighth place: Samsung Galaxy S10e
This is a “small flagship” with top-end characteristics for 35,000 rubles. It seems to me that it’s an excellent competitor to the iPhone XR, if you don’t like iOS and have a bit of a budget cut.

Ninth place: Xiaomi Redmi Note 7
Lagging behind the leader Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 by 6/64 GB, the ninth place is occupied by a “simpler” version: 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The price of the smartphone is 12,000 rubles.
Tenth place: Samsung Galaxy A70
In my opinion, the most uninteresting smartphone from the entire selection: it costs about 21,000 rubles and does not particularly stand out. This is the case when it is better to take Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Redmi 7 3/32GB
Xiaomi Redmi 7, one of the budget models of the Chinese company, is also in great demand.
Externally, Redmi 7 is similar to Redmi Note 7, but these are completely different devices. For example, the back cover in this case is made of plastic, the resolution of the 6.26-inch smartphone is relatively low (1520x720 pixels), and the processor used is a not so powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 632. But the battery capacity is completely the same - 4000 mAh.
In general, Redmi 7 is simpler than the older model, but at the same time cheaper.
- Screen diagonal: 6.26 inches
- Screen resolution: 1520×720
- Weight: 180 g
- Number of SIM cards: 2
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 632
- Memory capacity: 32 GB
- RAM capacity: 3 GB
- Battery capacity: 4000 mAh
- Rear camera: dual 12/2 MP
- Front camera: 8 MP

What phones do Americans buy?
For example, according to Counterpoint, in North America Apple was in the lead, Samsung was in second place, and LG was in third place. In 2020, Apple was so dominant in the region that roughly every second smartphone sold was an iPhone. At the same time, for obvious reasons, Huawei was not even included in the TOP 5, despite the fact that fifth place is only 4% of the market.

Xiaomi Mi 9T 6/64GB
As far as we know, the recent new product from Xiaomi, the Mi 9T, is also in good demand. It is interesting for its low cost (of course, relative to direct competitors), a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor and 6 GB of RAM in this version, a retractable front camera, as well as very unusual colors.
It is also worth noting a very decent camera, NFC of course, a 4000 mAh battery with fast charging, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
- Screen diagonal: 6.39 inches
- Screen resolution: 2340×1080
- Weight: 191 g
- Number of SIM cards: 2
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 730
