This year, Apple faced a special challenge. She needed to make something more advanced than the iPad 2, although due to its popularity and the sluggish development of Android tablets, it generally did not need updating. Therefore, the Cupertino team decided to focus on the main problem in their second “tablet”. And, let's be honest, the efforts were not in vain. The new iPad has become even more ideal, surpassing its closest competitors in all respects.

The box of the new iPad is no different from the packaging of last year's tablet. High-quality white cardboard, a minimum amount of waste paper, a cable, a charger and two miniature apple stickers. The main difference from all other generations is the picture of the iPad itself, on the springboard of which a new blue “wallpaper” is installed.
Frightened by the reviews of the first iPad 3 buyers, I took it out of the box and began to twirl it in my hands. I tried to feel the increased weight and thickness, but, fortunately, I could not notice either one. Finding the Home power/lock button, I pressed it and there it was - a new screen with a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels !
Finally, after the iPhone 4/4S screen, you can look at the iPad display with the same pleasure! Icons of standard applications and the entire interface of the iOS operating system simply come to life before your eyes. I spent a long time looking at the Facetime and Real Racing 2 HD icons, but I couldn't see any hint of a pixel. The text in the e-readers, already updated for the Retina screen of the new iPad, looks simply gorgeous, second only to traditional periodicals because they behave worse in direct sunlight.
No matter how hard I tried, I did not notice an increase in the speed of the system. I launched various applications, HD videos on Youtube, played GTA III and Real Racing 2 HD, but did not notice any features of the updated Apple A5X chip with a 4-core GPU , which is used in the new iPad. We'll wait for specialized toys from the developers at Epic Games, and then we'll draw some conclusions.
The iPad camera has ceased to be a disgrace and has acquired a 5-megapixel sensor with a whole bunch of new functions (autofocus, tap focus, face recognition, video shooting in 1080p format with 30 frames per second). It’s not easy to imagine a person who will use a new tablet as their main photo tool, but I still decided to take some photos on the street. The picture quality has improved greatly, although the noise has not disappeared.

After 15 minutes of testing the third-generation iPad camera, I finally realized that its absence on the back cover of the tablet would not upset me at all. It would be much more interesting to get an improved front camera for Facetime/Skype conversations. The existing VGA parody , unfortunately, spoils the entire impression of the high-resolution Retina screen.
As a result, all the innovations of the third iPad can be divided into two categories - those that will be useful for a Russian-speaking person living on this side of the ocean, and those that will be just a pleasant but useless addition. The first point includes a Retina display, an improved camera, the capabilities of a 4-core graphics chip and Bluetooth version 4.0 in the future. The second includes support for LTE networks, voice typing a la Siri (of course, without Russian language support) and increased battery capacity (lasts 9-10 hours). The new iPad has become better, faster and a little more functional than all previous generations and has already deserved to get rid of numbers and letters in its name and become a household name. iPad is the best device in its class, and the new iPad is just more proof of that.

Speed of opening games and websites
I tested the speeds of the iPad 2 and 3 on the games Mass Effect Infiltrator and Sky Gamblers. It's a fighting draw here. There are differences in terms of graphics, read about that below.
When browsing the Internet, the iPad 2 is slightly weaker than the new model, but the difference is so small that it can be ignored. For those who like numbers, I can give you the data from two tests that we measured yesterday with the entire editorial team.

CAMERA
There is no point in comparing the quality of photos of the iPad 3 with the iPad 2, so I tested the camera of the “third” under the watchful eye of the iPhone 4S. Compared to the iPhone 4S, pictures taken on the iPad 3 are less saturated. The optics are the same, but the sensors are different. On iPad 3 it costs less.
I can hardly imagine people running down the street and taking pictures on an iPad, but due to the weight of the tablet, the pictures will have less blur than on the same iPhone. The
iPad 3 sensor is comparable to the iPhone 4 - in both cases the information is processed by the Omnivision OV5650 with an operating temperature range from -30 to 70° C and an active cell size of 1.75 microns (versus 1.4 microns for the iPhone 4S).

It is curious that in a car, with the navigator running and GPS activated, charging an iPad 3 from the cigarette lighter can take several days.
DISPLAY
