When will your smartphone receive the update to Android 11?

Every update for smartphones (and not only) should always bring something new, clean, kind and bright. But sometimes things don't quite work out that way, and some recent software releases turn out to be a little weird. I’m not talking about those cases when, after downloading a new version of the software, the gadget turns into a “brick” or acquires serious security holes. This time I would like to talk about the rating of aggressive attitude towards applications, which is compiled by one reputable site. Samsung has always been in this competition and is now ready to top the list of participants. It's not good, but is it bad?

Before installing Android 11 on Samsung, read this article.

Android 11 update on ASUS

Asus was surprisingly quick to update its flagship Zenfone 6 smartphone to Android 10, releasing the update just two months after the OS debuted. So, unless the timing changes this year, the company should release the first stable Android 11 update sometime in November for the Zenfone 7 series.

Unfortunately, Asus has been slower to update its gaming ROG Phone 2. The update was released in March, six months after the launch of Android 10. We hope Asus speeds up the release of the ROG Phone 3 this year.

Expected release date for Android 11 for ASUS: November 2022

↑ Camera capabilities and photo editing

If we look at the camera application, we can note the ergonomic autofocus, as well as the photo exposure parameters. You can also notice an increase in the quality of shooting celestial bodies with a large zoom. The photo editor also did not stand aside - if necessary, the user can cancel all saved changes to the photo.

Android 11 update on Google

As expected, Google Pixel phones were among the first to receive the latest version of Android. The company started rolling out the update on day one as usual, but unlike Android 10, not all Pixel phones will receive it—read below for details.

Google is rolling out Android 11 to all of its Pixel phones except the original Pixel and Pixel XL, which launched back in 2016. This was expected since Google only guarantees three major OS updates for each Pixel phone.

Android 11 release date for Google: September 8, 2020

Animation

Samsung also worked on performance optimizations. Thanks to this, we can see that the animation overall has become smoother.

This is clearly visible when we change the orientation of the smartphone. By the way, I have also noticed some improvements. If you watch YouTube in landscape orientation and swipe up, you will return to the home screen without having to rotate your smartphone to the vertical orientation. Previously this caused some discomfort.

The animation for opening applications from the locked screen has changed. A widget with a player appears differently. And so on. These are minor improvements, which probably make no sense to talk about individually, but overall it refreshes the perception of the shell, which is also very good.

Android 11 update on HTC

HTC and software updates are not compatible. Although the company doesn't have many phones in its lineup, it has been fairly slow in releasing the latest versions of Android.

The company released the first Android 10 update back in March, six months after the OS was announced. We have no reason to believe that anything will change with Android 11, so if you have an HTC phone, you'll have to wait.

Expected release date for Android 11 for HTC: March 2021

Blog

Google recently released a developer preview of Android 11. There are usually developer previews released before March, but this early release just shows how many new changes Android 11 brings. It's not all we'll see later in Q3 2022 when the stable version arrives, but it's the start of the next Android. So, today we will tell you all the currently known information about the new Android 11 and see which smartphones will receive the new operating system.

When will Android 11 be released?

Android 11 is expected to be announced on May 12, 2022, with the final build rolling out to all eligible phones from October 2022.

The Google I/O 2022 event, which was scheduled to take place from May 12 to 14, has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns. We expected Google to unveil Android 11 at the Google I/O event. However, Google may hold an online event in a quieter environment to launch Android 11.

Google Pixel smartphones are always the first to receive the official Android update, after which other brands start releasing Android for their devices. Once Android 11 launches on Google Pixel devices, it will roll out to all manufacturers and provide software updates to all other latest smartphones.

Developer Preview

Google released the first Developer Preview 1 for developers in February 2022. The company has now started rolling out Developer Preview 2. If you are already running Developer Preview 1 on your device, you will get an OTA update. The second preview update includes an improved call screening service, rotation angle for foldable devices, Scoped storage updates, variable refresh rate support, synchronized IME transitions, and more. The OS preview is available for Google Pixel 4/4XL, Pixel 3a/3a XL, Pixel 3/3 XL and Pixel 2/2 XL. If you have a Pixel device and are a developer, you can download the system preview image and bring it to your device.

It is possible to install this version of Android 11, but it will be very unstable for normal use as it is a version of the OS designed specifically for developers.

Also, the features that are currently available in this version may change in the stable version, and many more new features will appear in the final version of Android 11. So, let's take a quick look at the most interesting new features available on Android 11.

Disable notifications while recording

Many people find it annoying when you're trying to make an amazing video and a notification pops up. Now with Android 11 you will have continuous video recording, with the ability to turn off notifications.

Improved touch sensitivity

This is something many of us will appreciate. No matter how durable the glass on the phone is, we always use tempered glass to ensure that the real glass is never damaged. Sometimes with tempered glass of average quality we encounter sensitivity problems. Google will enable better touch sensitivity on the software side, resulting in a flawless experience even when the device is equipped with tempered glass.

Built-in screen recording

Screen recording is something that Android users have always desired. We've heard rumors that this will be coming to Android 10, but the feature couldn't materialize as screen recording wasn't ready yet. But with Android 11 we will surely have this new feature. We will no longer need additional applications to record our screens.

Scrolling screenshots

We will finally see support for scrolling screenshots in Android with version 11. This is one of the most awaited features for Android users.

Improved support for curved displays

Curved displays certainly make the device attractive, but such displays have problems with accidental touches. Unintentional touches are very annoying, but now in Android 11 Google has developed a new API. This will allow developers to specify an area of the screen for interaction.

Airplane mode doesn't turn off Bluetooth

In previous versions of Android, Bluetooth would turn off when you turned on Airplane mode. This is a problem for users, especially given the popularity of Bluetooth headphones recently. So now, even when someone switches to Airplane mode, Bluetooth does not turn off and continues to work flawlessly.

Application pin menu

Android previously had a feature that allowed users to pin their most used apps to the sharing menu. This feature was removed, but now this feature will return to Android 11.

Planning for dark mode

We will see a dynamic system-wide dark mode in Android 11. It will change the setting on the device between dark and normal modes depending on the time of use, i.e. whether it is day or night.

Personal data protection

Apps will now only have access to certain parts of your file system, providing better protection for user privacy.

Better handling of old notifications

Currently, stable versions of Android do not allow you to access old notifications after they are deleted. But in Android 11, we will have a separate setting called Notification History, which will store all the information about old and new notifications.

Reverse charging

In Android 11, we will see a battery sharing option, which means that future Pixel devices will come with reverse wireless charging, and the Pixel 5 will be the first among them.

Android 11 update on Huawei

Huawei's situation is a bit complicated due to the US trade ban, which prevents the company from using Google services. Many Huawei phones will get Android 11, but some will ship without the Play Store, Gmail, and the rest of Google's apps.

It's phones like the P40 Pro that originally shipped without these apps. Older phones like the P30 should also get the latest version of Android, but should still have access to the Google apps and services that were on the phone at launch. A similar situation is seen with recent phones from Huawei's sub-brand, Honor, which will at some point update their own Magic UI with Android 11.

Based on Huawei's track record, we can expect the first stable EMUI update with Android 11 to roll out around two months after the initial launch. Huawei usually released its updates in China first, followed by a global release soon after. We should know more after the Huawei HDC 2022 conference on September 10.

Expected release date for Android 11 for Huawi: November 2022

Pop-ups with screenshots

This feature is implemented, at a minimum, on Google branded smartphones from the Pixel line, which run the Android 11 operating system. When you take a screenshot, a thumbnail appears in the left corner of the interface that shows the contents of the screenshot - it replaces the traditional notifications from the top screen.

This is another example of Google borrowing some interesting features for the base version of the Android operating system from third-party manufacturers who are working on their own skins. In One UI from Samsung, as well as in some other add-ons from other companies, screenshots are implemented in approximately the same way - after a given action to take a screenshot, a preview appears at the bottom of the display. The main difference between One UI in this regard is the presence of a notification about taking a screenshot in the corresponding section of the system and the need to subsequently delete it.

The first and second images demonstrate this feature in Android 11, the third and fourth - in One UI 2.5

By the way, Android 11 should also have one general ability to create long screenshots of specific menus with the need to scroll through them further. However, Google decided to postpone the release of this feature due to questions regarding the standardization of its operation.

Android 11 update on LG

Going by the company's track record, the first LG phones are expected to receive Android 11 in December. These devices will most likely be the LG V60 and G8. The rest should appear relatively soon.

Keep in mind that the company usually releases software updates in its home country of South Korea first before rolling them out to other markets. This means that, depending on where you live, you may have to wait even longer (a month or so) to test Android 11 on your LG device.

Expected release date for Android 11 for LG: December 2022

↑ Internet and new opportunities

If you analyze the latest innovations of this company, you can see that the company is aimed at further developing its own browser.
With each new update, it expands its own capabilities, which allows it to increase its level of efficiency and security. It is now possible to block suspicious sites using the “back” command. Analytics is constantly carried out on dubious sites that provide irrelevant content or are too crowded with ads and advertisements. Users can also use the translator function for the site. The new browser is equipped with a convenient system for working with tabs and a menu bar - if necessary, the panel can be hidden, and tabs can be opened up to a limit of 99 pieces. The data control panel itself has completely acquired a new style and functionality.

Android 11 update on Motorola

Motorola isn't known for its speed with updates. Looking at the Android 10 release schedule, we can expect the first update to be released towards the end of the year, December to be exact.

Motorola has a habit of releasing updates to a number of its phones in Brazil first and then rolling them out to other regions. With that in mind, you may have to wait even longer for the update if you're from the US or Europe.

Expected release date for Android 11 for Motorola: December 2022

Android 11 update on Nokia

Nokia does a great job with software updates. Last year, the company updated its entire lineup to Android 10, and it was quite fast. One reason for this speed is that many Nokia phones are part of the Android One family, which tends to be updated quickly because the manufacturer doesn't have to optimize the software as much.

The first Nokia phone received the Android 10 update about a month after the OS was released. We expect the situation to be similar this year, meaning Nokia should release the first stable Android 11 update sometime in October.

Expected release date for Android 11 for Nokia: October 2022

Voice access becomes more context-sensitive

For users with mobility impairments, Android has a great feature called voice access. Once you turn it on, you can use Google Assistant to simply tell your Android phone what actions it needs to perform.

Android 10 offers some features that let you use your voice to activate numbered items on your computer screen. For example, you can say "press 4" when using the Twitter app to create a new tweet (each link on the page will have a different number). Now you can say, “Open Twitter, tweet,” making your experience on your phone much more seamless. While this will only be useful for a minority of users, it further proves that Google is very serious about making Android available to all users without exception.

Android 11 update on OnePlus

OnePlus has always been quick to release updates and the trend will continue with Android 11. The company released the Oxygen OS 11 open beta based on Android 11 for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro on day one. There's no word yet on when the stable version will be released, but based on previous years, we expect it to be available by the end of the month or early October.

Although not confirmed, we expect all OnePlus phones from OnePlus 6 to get the latest version of Android. After the OnePlus 8, the next phones that could receive the update are most likely the OnePlus Nord and the OnePlus 7T series.

Android 11 Open Beta is available to download for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro - .

Expected release date for Android 11 for OnePlus: September/October 2022

Should I disable background applications?

Disabling background applications has its advantages. Initially, this is done so that they consume less energy and provide longer operating time for the smartphone. But the optimization of modern systems has meant that hyper-aggressive battery management is no longer as necessary as it once was.

On the other hand, an increase in screen frequency, the transition to power-hungry 5G and a general increase in consumption are not always compensated by an increase in battery capacity. Considering that this component has hit a certain ceiling and has not seen breakthroughs for a long time, manufacturers are trying to come up with something.

Android 11 update on Oppo

It looks like Oppo is speeding up the process this year, joining the list of companies that will release Android 11 beta on day one, according to Google. But Oppo has not yet confirmed which phones will receive the update, although it is likely to be the Find X2, Find X2 Pro, Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro. We will update this post as soon as this is confirmed.

However, the company generally takes its time with updates, and if the situation is similar this year, we can expect the first stable version of Color OS with Android 11 to be released around six months after the release of Android 11.

There's a chance that Oppo will roll out updates faster this year given that a couple of its phones are part of the beta program, but since the company hasn't yet shared a release schedule, it's impossible to make any firm promises.

Expected release date for Android 11 for Oppo: March 2021

App suggestions (Pixel only)

This feature is actually very cool, but unfortunately it only works on Pixel phones for now. It's possible that Google will offer this feature to other phones in the future, but since it requires the Pixel Launcher to function, it's unlikely to make it to other manufacturers in its current form.

You can let Android control the icons that appear on your Dock.

If you own a Pixel running Android 11, you can now let Google's AI smarts control the apps that appear in your Dock. Android will use various factors to determine which five apps it thinks should be in your dock 24/7. Applications will constantly change. The end goal is for the application you want to open to be prepared before you even want to open it.

Of course, Google allows you to tell Android to skip certain apps. You can also disable this feature if you don't need it. However, this is a really interesting addition to Android 11 that should make people's lives a little easier!

Android 11 update on Realme

Realme knows that fast updates are important, so it released Android 11 closed beta on day one - see below for more details. He didn't say when the stable version will be ready, so we have to base our prediction on how the company handles Android 10 updates.

The first one was released back in January, four months after the official unveiling of Android 10. It's possible that the company will speed up the process since it has already released a beta version of the update, but since we don't know for sure, we assume that Realme will stick to the same time frame , as with Android 10.

Expected release date of Android 11 for Realme: January 2022

↑ Quick application launcher

The quick panel
is another convenient invention and addition in a new shell that will make using the gadget convenient and fast. However, these are not all the advantages of the update: the device has a new flexible structure. Therefore, the panel now separates the user's media and contacts. This grouping allows you to quickly and easily navigate the interface.

Android 11 update on Samsung

Samsung is far from the fastest company when it comes to Android updates, but it has gotten faster over the years. The tech giant has yet to share a release schedule, but based on how it handles Android 10 updates, we expect it to release the first stable Android 11 update in select markets by the end of November.

The Galaxy S20 and Note 20 phones will be among the first to receive the latest version of Android, with other Galaxy models coming soon after. Software support for older Samsung flagships like the Note 9 and S9 ended with the release of Android 10, so these devices won't be updated to the One UI flavored version of Android 11. Older high-end Samsung phone models were only guaranteed two major OS updates. while newer ones increase the number to three.

Expected release date for Android 11 for Samsung: November 2022

↑ Home screen features

As mentioned earlier, the main modification to the One UI 3.0 home screen is the ability to long press an application icon to exit to the widget menu.

With this gesture, you can find the required service much faster and drag it onto the device’s desktop.

In the Motion and Gesture menu, you can optionally enable the double-tap function, which allows you to turn off the device's display within a few seconds. This additional feature is available in an extended set of settings in operating system applications.

Android 11 update on Sony

Sony's latest Xperia 1 II is likely to be the company's first phone to receive the Android 11 update, followed by the slightly older Xperia 1 and Xperia 5. The update should also make its way to a few older flagships, as well as a number of mid-range ones. — rangers.

Sony hasn't yet shared its Android 11 plans with the public, but we expect the tech giant to release its first stable update sometime in December, just like Android 10. But if you have a mid-range Sony phone that's likely everything will get the latest version of Android, you will have to wait. Last year's Xperia 10 and 10 Plus received Android 10 back in May.

Expected release date for Android 11 for Sony: December 2022

↑ Contacts, calls and text messages

Now users have the opportunity to also optimize entries in their phone book.
For example, you can get rid of duplicate entries. The search function of the application has also been improved. The user can select additional settings on the call screen. In terms of messages, only one innovation can be noted - if necessary, deleted messages can be restored from the trash.

Android 11 update on Vivo

Vivo is quite slow in releasing updates and we don't expect that to change with Android 11.

The company has released the first stable Android 10 update for one of its flagship phones, seven months after the OS was released. If Vivo sticks to the same timeline with Android 11, we can expect the first stable update to roll out in April.

Expected release date of Android 11 for Vivo: April 2022

How to install

There are two ways to update to the latest Android:

  • by air;
  • manually.

The first option is suitable for those who are willing to wait and do not want to deal with the issue of updating for a long time. The latest firmware for smartphones arrives automatically, and the owner of the device receives a corresponding notification. You just need to confirm the download and start the flashing process.

In the case of the second option, you will need to download the firmware file to your phone yourself from the manufacturer’s official website. Next, all you have to do is go to the OS update section and select installing the latest software using the downloaded file. Then the flashing process will start and the smartphone will be updated. The update process is described in more detail in the video review.

Video review of Android 11

Android 11 update on Xiaomi

Xiaomi is among the companies that released the Android 11 beta version on its release day. Unfortunately, the company did not announce the start date for the release of the stable version of the OS. Based on its track record, we expect the stable version of Xiaomi's MIUI with Android 11 build to arrive on Mi 10 phones by the end of September or early October.

Many other Xiaomi phones, as well as devices from its sub-brands Poco and Redmi, will arrive soon after this, although we don't know which models will receive the update.

Expected release date of Android 11 for Xiaomi: September/October 2022

Xiaomi has released the Android 11 beta version for Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro phones. In a statement to Android Authority, the company said that the update is available to users who are part of their beta program on global and Chinese ROMs.

↑ Screen performance characteristics

It’s hard to say that the One UI 3.0 lock screen is radically different from the previous model – in general, the design and basic parameters remain unchanged. However, its dynamic part received a larger number of categories and the ability to select additional functions. Thus, now the capabilities of the screen have expanded, and it has also become more user-friendly. The widgets of this menu have been finalized and improved - the same innovations have affected the screen operating mode.

Android 11 update on ZTE

ZTE is expected to update several of its smartphones to Android 11.

There's no word yet on when this might happen, but we expect the first ZTE phone to receive the Android 11 update sometime in early 2021. The company's high-end Axon phones are expected to be updated first, as is the case with Android 10.

Expected release date for Android 11 for ZTE: January 2022

↑ Bixby Routine

Bixby Routine

system was created to automate and optimize a number of processes. A number of innovations can be found in the new shell. Now, when starting this system, the user can immediately receive a large number of scripts, or, if necessary, he can create his own.

The conditions under which this or that gadget mechanism is triggered have been expanded. You can now automatically turn off Bluetooth devices or your wireless network, and block calls from certain numbers. Each script can now have its own sign, which is added to the quick access panel.
