Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G 12/256GB

In the fresh Galaxy S21 line, the Ultra model is of the greatest interest, since it is the flagship of the range.

Unlike the previous generation smartphone, the screen diagonal has decreased by 0.1 inches, and the screen itself has become even better. The design is beyond praise, and the main camera has 4 modules: the main one, an ultra-wide-angle one and 2 telephoto cameras at once. The main module is capable of shooting in 108 MP resolution, optical and electronic stabilization is supported, 4K 60 fps shooting is now available for all 4 modules, there is a 100x Space Zoom and much more.

What else can be noted? If water protection or excellent stereo speakers have existed before, stylus support for the Galaxy (non-Note) series has been announced for the first time. The stylus itself, if you need it, will have to be purchased separately. And yes, there is no charger included.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.8 inches
  • Screen resolution: 3200×1440
  • Weight: 228 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Samsung Exynos 2100

⇡#LG is done with smartphones

Let’s also remember LG smartphones. The company has long left behind its best years, which were still producing push-button phones, but for a long time it remained at least close to the leaders, including in the Android era. In recent years, however, things have gone very badly - in Russia, in particular, flagships have not been presented for several years, and sales of inexpensive models did not stand up to criticism. The solution was obvious. LG released its latest smartphone on May 31, 2022.

LG G4

If you start to remember the most memorable LG handsets in this material, the article will only be about this, and not about the results of 2022. So let's take this discussion to the comments: which LG phone did you remember the most?

Samsung Galaxy S20FE

The youngest version in the Galaxy S20 line. This smartphone is a little simpler than the Galaxy S20, which is why it costs a little less.

Externally, the devices are very different, since the design of the Galaxy S20FE is made in the style of the Galaxy Note 20. The back is not just glass, but a new glastic material, that is, a mixture of glass and plastic. I'm glad that the processor has not changed, but the amount of RAM has decreased and is 6 GB.

The screen now supports 120 Hz, although only in FullHD+ mode, and the camera is a little simpler. The main and ultra-wide-angle modules are apparently the same, but the telephoto module has reduced the resolution to 8 MP.

As befits a flagship, the Galaxy S20FE has stereo speakers, water resistance, fast and wireless charging.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.5 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2400×1080
  • Weight: 190 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Samsung Exynos 990
  • Memory capacity: 128 GB
  • RAM capacity: 6 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4500 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 12/12/8 MP
  • Front camera: 32 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

New products for 2022 from Samsung

The Korean company announced the appearance of more than 10 new models on the market, including the S21 and Galaxy A series. The news was the postponement of the release of Fold Lite to 2022.

Among the new developments, the updated design stands out, as well as the under-screen camera. Additionally, images are expected to improve through the use of laser focusing.

One of the new models will be the Galaxy Z Fold2 with a price of 180 thousand rubles. The 7.7” display will have a resolution of 2213×1689 and a frequency of 120 Hz. It is also planned to equip it with a holographic keyboard.

Xiaomi Poco M3 4/64GB

In the class of inexpensive smartphones, the Xiaomi Poco M3 is of great interest - a device that has received a lot of interesting features.

For example, here you will find something that is rarely found even on devices of a higher class - stereo speakers. The back of the case has an unusual texture, so it looks like leather, as well as a large glossy panel around the main camera. And of course, one cannot fail to note the very powerful battery with a capacity of as much as 6000 mAh with fast charging.

Poco M3 has an excellent 6.53-inch high-resolution IPS screen, a fairly powerful platform based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset, and 4 GB of RAM. But NFC is missing.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.53 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2340×1080
  • Weight: 198 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 662
  • Memory capacity: 64 GB
  • RAM capacity: 4 GB
  • Battery capacity: 6000 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 48/2/2 MP
  • Front camera: 8 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

⇡#Crouching Tensor, lurking Snapdragon

But for Qualcomm, 2021 was not a very good year. Back in the third quarter of 2020, the company lost its leadership in the supply of processors for smartphones to a competitor represented by MediaTek, and in the past year the process only worsened. The Taiwanese chipmaker continued to lead the mobile chip market in the second quarter of 2022 with a share of 38%, while Qualcomm took 32% of the market. By the way, Samsung's share has decreased very much - to 7%, but Apple, of course, is stable with its 15% (which exactly corresponds to the iPhone's market share). Another 5% belongs to UNISOC, 3% to HiSilicon (the prospects here are sad). In monetary terms, however, Qualcomm is still ahead (34.4%; Apple - 27.8%, MediaTek - 26.8%).

A new player has been added to this cheerful company - Google with its own Tensor platform, which is equipped with the Google Pixel 6/6 Pro. Not much is known about it - like Apple, the manufacturer hides some information from the public. But it is known that the platform received two Cortex-X1 cores operating at a frequency of 2.8 GHz, two mid-level Cortex-A76 cores with a frequency of 2.25 GHz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 with a frequency of 1.8 GHz. The Mali-G78 GPU is responsible for graphics processing. Technological process - 5 nm. And there is a particularly powerful processor responsible for neural network calculations - a special emphasis is placed on it. But, perhaps, the most important thing is that this platform does not have the problem of excessive heat generation, which is what Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 suffers from. Let’s hope that Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be better in this regard.

Apple iPhone 12 mini 128GB

The mini model is of greatest interest in the iPhone 12 line. Firstly, this is truly a new smartphone, and secondly, fans of compact devices will be pleased. At the time of writing, other manufacturers do not have anything so compact and at the same time powerful.

The iPhone 12 mini body is very small: width - 64.2 mm, height - 131.5 mm, the numbers are simply magnificent, and this is with a 5.4-inch screen. The latter was created using OLED technology - very high quality.

Most of the characteristics of the mini copy the older iPhone 12 model: the same dual rear camera, Apple A14 Bionic processor, water protection (IP68), fast and wireless charging, Face ID, etc.

  • Screen diagonal: 5.4 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2340×1080

Google Pixel 6

The Google Pixel 5 failed to be the breakthrough device of 2022, mainly due to the mid-range Snapdragon 765G chipset, which, although fast enough, cannot compete with the top models of other manufacturers.

There are rumors that Google's most anticipated smartphone of 2022, the Pixel 6, may get Google's own processor. While it would be a stretch to suggest that Google's chipset can match Apple's A14 Bionic, the proprietary processor will certainly lay the foundation for the company's new smartphones to compete with high-end flagships.

Google usually releases a new smartphone in September, so we can expect the Pixel 6 to release around the same time. However, according to network source Max Weinbach, in 2022 Google may deviate from its tradition and announce a new mobile phone as early as March.

This is the biggest rumor I've heard in ages, and I mean this is an unsubstantiated rumor I've heard from like 2 people so absolutely don't believe it, but apparently there's a true flagship Pixel coming out in like March 2022.

Again, unsubstantiated rumor.

— Max Weinbach (@MaxWinebach) October 29, 2020

And, of course, the new product will receive the latest Android 12 OS.

However, this is his only feature. The remaining characteristics are quite common for such a budget segment: two single cameras, a small 4.95-inch display with a resolution of 960x480 pixels, a MediaTek MT8765 chip, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM. The device runs on Android 10 Go edition.

There is no fingerprint scanner.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 256GB

The second generation of the already legendary folding smartphone from Samsung. There are two screens - one on the outside and the other on the inside, folding out like a book, resulting in a diagonal of 7.6 inches.

This generation uses a new and, according to the manufacturer, much more durable hinge. The external display has lost its thick frames. The internal screen uses a special glass called Gorilla Glass Vicrus. The camera has three modules: main, ultra-wide and telephoto. Let's say right away that the camera, although excellent, is still not the top-end - if you need a flagship camera, it is better to buy the Galaxy S20 Ultra or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. But the processor is the most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus, which works together with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of ROM.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is one of the most expensive smartphones on the market.

Smartphones in 2021-2022 - what do they offer?

Components from most effective to optimal

Processors

Which processor will be appropriate in smartphones in 2022? New year means new processors. The 2022 flagships include the Exynos 2100 in the Samsung Galaxy S21 series and the Snapdragon 888 in the Xiaomi Mi 11 and Mi 11i, OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, Realme GT 5G or the latest ASUS Zenfone and ROG series.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, 865+ and 855+, proprietary: Kirin 9000 in Huawei, Exynos 990 in Samsung and Apple A14 Bionic in iPhone. Some of them stand out noticeably in the mobile communications market and remain at a high level, including in terms of price. Others can be found in flagship smartphones of leading brands, but even on the shelf costing 30,000 rubles, for example, Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro. So smartphones with these processors are still an excellent choice.

However, the optimal choice for this 2021-2022 year will be smartphones with Exynos 900 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, 860, 765G, 765 or the new Snapdragon 780G, which powers the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite. Snapdragon 750G, 732G, 720G, 678 work well in cheaper models, but in budget models Snapdragon with 6xx and MediaTek Helio P95 and Dimensity 700, 800U.

RAM and ROM memory

In our rating for the first half of 2022, many models boast large 8 GB RAM. However, there will be models up to 12GB that will face the most demanding users and multitasking needs. This group includes Realme GT, OnePlus 9 Pro and vivo x60 Pro. The largest amount of RAM, reaching 16 GB, can be found among ASUS smartphones - the efficient and compact Zenfone 8 and the gaming ROG 5. The specified 8 GB, however, is a very good price.

The optimal choice is 6 GB of RAM. It will easily provide uninterrupted performance for everyday use and work with multiple applications. Photo editors or games won't be a big problem either. This RAM is offered by Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro and 10S, Samsung Galaxy S20 FE or realme 8.

Smaller RAM, at 4/3 GB, is available on lower-end smartphones, which will accommodate the core features offered by the phone, but will also be able to run two apps in a split-screen manner. The exception is the 4 GB of RAM in the Apple iPhone 12, which, thanks to very good optimization, maintains high performance. Although the Cupertino giant broke the barrier last year and has already placed 6 GB of RAM in the Pro models.

In terms of internal storage, most recommended smartphones offer 128GB. However, it should be remembered that in many cases you can use a microSD card or pay extra for a model with a larger ROM, where the maximum size is 256 GB, and even 512 GB on the iPhone.

Best displays

Among the TOP most popular smartphones in 2021, AMOLED (and derivatives - Super, Dynamic and Fluid AMOLED) and OLED displays invariably dominate. And LCD IPS is the standard. Here again we should mention the manufacturer with the bitten apple logo, which in 2022 installed an OLED matrix in all versions of the iPhone 12.

Screen resolution and image support technologies such as HDR 10 and high refresh rates are also very important issues. The absolute top of the line is the WQHD+ display in the Xiaomi Mi 11 and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Below are excellent Full HD+ levels of 2400 x 1080 and even 2636 x 1080 in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G.

If you want killer, detailed images, pay attention to pixel density. This is the number of pixels per inch, and for the mentioned top it is 516 and 515 ppi. However, 395 ppi already produces a very good image.

More and more smartphones are offering refresh rates higher than the standard 90Hz or 120Hz. This option should be of particular interest to players who require smooth visuals without the risk of missing combat details. You will find such a screen in models from almost all the most popular brands. Apple has not yet decided on such an improvement. In this aspect, ASUS ROG 5 and Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro with a refresh rate of 144 Hz became a hit.

Smartphone cameras 2021-2022

Cameras are also an important and sometimes decisive factor influencing the choice of a new device. Among 2021 smartphones, the range of photographic capabilities on offer is extremely wide. Most of the smartphones in our rating have three or even four rear lenses. However, their types and parameters are decisive.

In 2022, the large 108-megapixel sensor is no longer impressive. In any case, high resolution does not always lead to the desired ideal effects. Other smartphones, despite the lower resolution, also demonstrate high photographic capabilities. The point is to support artificial intelligence, matrix and pixel sizes, as well as apertures that affect performance in lower light conditions (here, the lower the value, the better).

Other lenses define the quality of less classic shots and additional features. For the most part, the second eye is an ultra-wide-angle camera with a large field of view, used to cover wide panoramic shots. Here is the highest resolution, as much as 50 megapixels in the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini use this lens to avoid the island of cameras built into the back panel. Other types that modern smartphones come with are a telephoto lens, a macro lens, and a DoF depth sensor. And in OnePlus, OPPO and realme you will also find a monochrome lens.

Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC 6/128GB

Poco X3 NFC will probably be one of the main smartphones of the 2022 season. Why? Yes, because it offers very cool characteristics for a relatively reasonable price.

What are we talking about? The device received support for 120 Hz, stereo speakers, a very powerful platform based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G chip and 6 GB of RAM, a capacious battery of as much as 5160 mAh with fast charging (33 W), a vibration motor with 4D vibration, a very decent camera for its class with 4 modules: “wide”, “ultra-wide”, for macro and depth sensor.

What do you think of the unusual back cover design? Looks very fresh.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.67 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2400×1080
  • Weight: 215 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G
  • Memory capacity: 128 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 5160 mAh
  • Rear camera: four modules 64/13/2/2 MP
  • Front camera: 20 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

⇡#Best smartphones of the year: the most long-awaited - Honor 50

The already mentioned above, the first Honor with Google services, after a long break, deserves a second mention, already among the best smartphones of the year. Partly for sentimental reasons (look who's back!), but mostly simply because it's a great smartphone.

A curved OLED screen with a frequency of 120 Hz (which actually works in games, and not like the realme GT), traditionally excellent shooting quality on the main camera, a high-quality front camera, decent performance combined with no problems with throttling (Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G). In the category of relatively inexpensive sub-flagships (35 thousand at launch), the smartphone has essentially only one serious competitor – realme GT Neo2. The return turned out just right.

ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro ZS671KS 256GB

The uniqueness of this smartphone lies in its unusual camera. As you can see, there is no front camera here - its place is taken by the main camera, which, using a special mechanism, rises above the body. The idea is not new, this feature has been used by ASUS before, but it is still impressive.

ZenFone 7 Pro is a flagship, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus chip and 8 GB of RAM, so the power reserve is huge. The camera has three modules: wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto, and it takes very, very good pictures.

In this generation, the screen is AMOLED, the battery capacity is 5000 mAh, fast charging is supported, but there is no wireless charging. There is no protection from water either.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.67 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2400×1080
  • Weight: 230 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus
  • Memory capacity: 256 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 5000 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 64/12/8 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

Other important parameters

Battery and fast charging

Battery capacity and fast charging are also very important. In our TOP smartphones of 2022, most models have a battery capacity of more than 4000 mAh, and the largest one – up to 6000 mAh. However, it should be remembered that much depends on appropriate optimization and energy-saving components. Thus, the battery can have a lower capacity but still have a longer operating time.

Nowadays, most smartphones support fast charging, which has a different name depending on the technology used and the manufacturer. These are Super Charge, Fast Charge, Quick Charge, Wrap Charge, SuperDart Charge or VOOC (ugh, you might choke on this one). Choosing based on this feature provides more practical benefits than choosing the smartphone with the largest battery. The ability to quickly recharge energy is more reliable than two days of operation on a single charge. Manufacturers are still trying to outdo each other in this matter. Therefore, pay attention to the power expressed in watts (W). For example, Xiaomi Mi 11 supports 55W wired charging, OnePlus 9 supports 65W, and Samsung Galaxy S21 supports 25W.

Some models also offer wireless and reverse charging. If such convenience is important to you, you may want to consider the Apple iPhone 12 series, OnePlus 9 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 11, or Samsung Galaxy S21.

Communication

Communication is also an important aspect. Firstly, 5G - support for next-generation networks is already offered by an increasing number of smartphones, even mid-range ones, for example Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G, OPPO A54 or OPPO Reno5 Lite. This year, the latest Bluetooth standard is 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6. NFC is already a standard, unfortunately it is missing on some budget models, so be sure to pay attention to it if you use contactless payments.

Security and Resistance

When it comes to security, most of the smartphones in the ranking have a fingerprint scanner built into the screen or body, and some also have a face scanner, in Apple's case called Face ID. The Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S21 or OnePlus 9 Pro increasingly comes with IPX2 splash resistance and IP68 dust and water resistance.

Smartphones 2021-2022. Which one will be the best?

Choosing the best smartphone depends on your individual preferences and requirements. In the ranking below you will find recommended smartphones from your favorite brands, from flagship to budget, that enjoy good reviews and are highly popular.

However, remember that a specification is not everything. The quality of the system, support for artificial intelligence or additional functions and technologies are important. And of course - price-quality ratio. Sometimes the comfort of using smartphones is much higher than you expect, or lower than you expect. That's why it's worth reading smartphone reviews before purchasing, especially at a time when most shopping is done online.

vivo Y20 4/64GB

A new product in the budget segment from vivo is an inexpensive device with everything you need.

The smartphone received a 6.51-inch display, a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor, as well as 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM, a capacious 5000 mAh battery, a triple camera: the main module, for macro and a depth sensor. It shoots well for a budget employee.

The device also has an NFC module and a fingerprint scanner.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.51 inches
  • Screen resolution: 1600×720
  • Weight: 192 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 460
  • Memory capacity: 64 GB
  • RAM capacity: 4 GB
  • Battery capacity: 5000 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 13/2/2 MP
  • Front camera: 8 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

⇡#Flexible smartphones are with us for a long time (forever?)

Folding smartphones and transformable smartphones with a folding screen still turned out to be not a strange fad or a technological dead end, but a completely in-demand product, even despite the still very high cost.

More smartphones with flexible displays were sold in July-September 2022 than in the previous four quarters combined. Quarterly growth was 215%, and growth compared to last year was 480%, the number of smartphones sold amounted to 2.6 million units, with Samsung accounting for 93% of all gadgets of this type shipped during the quarter. In second place is Huawei with 6%. Surprisingly, Motorola with its excellent RAZR is almost not represented. Well, we are waiting for new brands to enter the game more actively - we are especially counting on OPPO.

TECNO Pouvoir 4

An extremely unusual and probably very popular smartphone from TECNO.

This model can surprise you with a couple of features: firstly, it has stereo speakers. Secondly, the manufacturer installed a very powerful 6000 mAh battery. Thirdly, the screen is huge - 6.95 inches! And all this - in a very budget segment.

The platform consists of a MediaTek Helio A22 (MT6761) chipset and 3 GB of RAM, and the camera has 4 modules. However, she usually rents for her cost.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.95 inches
  • Screen resolution: 1640×720
  • Weight: 217 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: MediaTek Helio A22 (MT6761)
  • Memory capacity: 32 GB
  • RAM capacity: 3 GB
  • Battery capacity: 6000 mAh
  • Rear camera: four modules 13/2/2/0.08 MP
  • Front camera: 8 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

⇡#Honor is back

The combination, which Ostap Bender would envy, worked - Honor technically separated from Huawei back in 2022, but doubts remained that American regulatory authorities would recognize this company as completely independent and free it from sanctions (the main one of which blocked the use of Google Mobile Services) remained.

Well, it’s time to discard them: albeit with a huge delay, the first Honor smartphone with Google services (and the Qualcomm platform) after a two-year break - Honor 50 - was finally released. It is likely that Honor will be able to regain a very significant market share next year, even if it shrank to almost nothing last year.

ASUS Rog Phone 3 12/512GB

The next generation of gaming smartphone from ASUS. A version has appeared with 16 GB of RAM on board! As far as we know, the kit includes a cooling cooler - it is with it that the maximum power mode is available. A funny thing is that there is a headphone jack on the cooler itself, but there is none on the smartphone body. A maximum screen refresh rate of 144 Hz is supported. The battery is 6000 mAh, there is fast charging, but there is no wireless charging.

What does ASUS Rog Phone 3 run on? Based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, the memory capacity in this version is 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of ROM.

The smartphone, although niche, is extremely interesting. And, by the way, it is far from the most expensive on the Russian market, despite the top platform.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.59 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2340×1080
  • Weight: 240 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus
  • Memory capacity: 512 GB
  • RAM capacity: 12 GB
  • Battery capacity: 6000 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 64/13/5 MP
  • Front camera: 24 MP
  • Memory card support: no

⇡#Logistics and production hell

We are constantly asked (of course!) which smartphone to buy or which smartphone is currently the best for your money - and usually you can simply give a choice of several models in your price range, without paying attention to any third-party processes. It is for these purposes that we write articles about the top 10 smartphones - here is material about devices up to 10 thousand rubles, and here about models up to 20 thousand rubles. But now everything has changed. If you need a smartphone urgently, then you have to start from what is currently in stock. The combination of difficult logistics, a shortage of components on the market and, as a result, a disrupted production cycle led, for example, to the fact that smartphone supplies to Russia in October met only 25% of market demand. Some smartphones (for example, Motorola edge 20 Pro) have generally turned into a kind of myth - they are officially sold, but can only be found in stores occasionally.

In general, smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2021, for example, decreased by 6%, despite the fact that the demand for these gadgets does not yet show any sign of falling: with decreased shipments, smartphone sales increased in monetary terms. And there is no reason to assume that the situation will change in 2022. However, not everything in 2022 was all doom and gloom.

Xiaomi Redmi 9C 2/32GB (NFC)

Budget device from Xiaomi. Created on the basis of another model - Xiaomi Redmi 9A. But if the latter is a purely simple device, then Redmi 9C received several new features.

So, now it has a fingerprint scanner, a triple camera is used instead of a single camera, an NFC sensor has appeared, and the chipset is a slightly more powerful MediaTek Helio G35.

As before, there is an excellent 6.53-inch screen and a powerful 5000 mAh battery.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.53 inches
  • Screen resolution: 1600×720
  • Weight: 196 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: MediaTek Helio G35
  • Memory capacity: 32 GB
  • RAM capacity: 2 GB
  • Battery capacity: 5000 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 13/2/2 MP
  • Front camera: 5 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

⇡#Best smartphones of the year: the most technologically advanced - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

This smartphone, like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, never officially arrived in Russia - Xiaomi had already raised prices for its older models (Xiaomi Mi 11 costs 86 thousand rubles today), so it did not scare the public with a gadget that costs 120 thousand. But it would be worth it, in my opinion: in the absence of Huawei (the P50 has not yet made it out of China either), this is where the most interesting technologies in the field of mobile photography are concentrated (Xperia PRO-I, sorry, but no).

There are questions about the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra regarding the unusually heavy and bulky body, it has problems with the firmware, the autonomy leaves much to be desired, and the brightest feature in the form of an additional screen is useful only for bloggers who can film themselves (but with a number of unpleasant limitations ). But the Mi 11 Ultra received the most “powerful” set of cameras: 50+48+48 megapixels with main sensor dimensions of 1/1.12 inches (in reality, the size of an individual combined pixel is even larger than in the Xperia PRO-I), five-fold optical zoom, autofocus on all cameras - and excellent software processing, the pictures are really good.

realme 7 Pro 8/128GB

Maybe some users remember such an interesting smartphone as realme 6 Pro? His replacement arrived.

It’s worth saying right away that the platform remains the same - it’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chip and 8 GB of RAM. Instead of an IPS screen, an AMOLED display is now used, with a slightly smaller diagonal of 6.4 inches. The scanner is on the display. By the way, there is no longer support for 90 Hz - only 60 Hz.

At the back there is still a quad camera, but the manufacturer has removed the telephoto module. It takes pictures very well, approximately at the level of the same realme 6 Pro.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.4 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2400×1080
  • Weight: 182 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G
  • Memory capacity: 128 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4500 mAh
  • Rear camera: four modules 64/8/2/2 MP
  • Front camera: 32 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

OPPO Reno 4 Lite

It seems that OPPO is completely revising the design of its smartphones - Reno 4 Lite looks very fresh and unusual.

The smartphone received a 6.43-inch display with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels, AMOLED, a good platform based on the MediaTek Helio P95 chipset, as much as 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM, a quad camera that takes good pictures, a dual front camera, as well as a proprietary ColorOS 7 firmware.

Battery capacity is 400 mAh, fast charging is supported.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.43 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2400×1080
  • Weight: 164 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: MediaTek Helio P95
  • Memory capacity: 128 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4000 mAh
  • Rear camera: four modules 48/8/2/2 MP
  • Front camera: 16 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

Samsung Galaxy M51

One of the older models in the Galaxy M line is M51, which received a very powerful 7000 mAh battery! Of course, there is fast charging, otherwise it would take a very long time to charge such a battery... By the way, the battery life, according to experts, is enormous.

The smartphone is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor, memory capacity is 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM. The screen is AMOLED, its diagonal reaches 6.7 inches. Despite the AMOLED screen, for some reason the scanner was placed on the side.

At the back there is a quad camera, the main module has a resolution of 64 MP. Shoots well for its price.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.7 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2400×1080
  • Weight: 213 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G
  • Memory capacity: 128 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 7000 mAh
  • Rear camera: four modules 64/12/5/5 MP
  • Front camera: 32 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

The best smartphones of 2021-2022 - what makes them stand out?

Smartphone characteristics

There is no denying that the best smartphones are also the best looking smartphones. With more choice, shoppers are paying more attention to style. Currently, there is a trend towards smaller bezels around displays , with top-end smartphones often referred to as “bezel-less”. At the same time, this results in an aspect ratio of 18:9, 19:9 or similar.

Manufacturers cannot refuse front-facing cameras; they are most often built-in. Sometimes you can find special retractable modules, thanks to which the screen can cover even more of the front panel.

You should also expect high definition. FullHD + is the minimum for the smartphones in question, but increasingly you can find higher resolution QuadHD + and at the same time support for HDR technology.

90Hz and even 120Hz refresh rates are also starting to appear . Here we cannot fail to mention the information that fingerprint scanners are being built into displays more and more often.

Smartphone case

The cases of modern smartphones are usually glass (front and back) and metal (mainly side frames) . Plastic, which is now unacceptable in the upper segment, has already been abandoned forever.

It is worth paying attention to whether the smartphone case is waterproof . Most manufacturers—though not all—try to keep this in mind. This is a very useful feature, thanks to which taking out your smartphone in the rain, splashing it, or even accidentally throwing it into water will not cause a malfunction. Models that meet the IP68 waterproof standard work well.

In addition to SIM and microSD card slots, every smartphone also has a charging port—mostly USB-C . The 3.5 mm headphone jack is becoming less and less used. If it is not there, you need to use adapters or wireless headphones.

Smartphone efficiency

Smartphone rankings are often based on their specifications. This is quite understandable, because when moving to a top model, everyone focuses not only on the smooth operation of the operating system, but also on the comfortable operation of applications and more and more advanced graphical mobile games.

In 2022, the systems that have the most to offer are Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, Samsung Exynos 2100 and Apple A14 Bionic .

In addition to a powerful processor, you will also need a lot of memory. In the case of Android, 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage are the minimum for a top-end smartphone at the moment.

In the case of iOS , 6 GB of RAM or even 4 GB is quite enough , this is what the best iPhones have.

Smartphone camera

Manufacturers respond to all wishes with more advanced modules. Often there are not only double or triple lenses , but even quadruple ones . It is important that one of the lenses has a wide viewing angle , this is especially useful when photographing a landscape or a large group of people. A telephoto lens is also welcome in a top-end . Some people may want a macro lens, which is useful when photographing small subjects such as insects.

You have to remember that resolutions alone don't say much about the quality of photos. It is worth paying attention to the brightness of the lenses , the presence of optical image stabilization (OIS) and a fast mechanism responsible for measuring sharpness.

A top-end smartphone should allow you to save photos in RAW format , have a good night mode for shooting after dark, and record video in 4K quality at 60 frames per second . There are more and more models coming out with 8K recording capabilities, although this is not necessary.

Battery capacity and wireless connection

Battery capacity won't increase overnight, especially with thinner cases. Capacity is not always the deciding factor because there are many other factors that determine how quickly a battery wears out. What is important is that a good smartphone should support fast charging technology, and the possibility of wireless charging will also be welcome.

Nowadays it can be found in most high-end smartphones. Some of them additionally boast wireless reverse charging, thanks to which they can power another device - not only a smartphone, but also a smartwatch, for example.

Modern wireless standards

Every modern smartphone is equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communication modules. However, this doesn't say much because both versions have been versions for many years. A good high-end smartphone should offer Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), or better yet, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) .

The new version of Wi-Fi guarantees better speed, higher stability and at the same time better energy efficiency, that is, less battery consumption.

In addition, an NFC module is a mandatory element of a top-end smartphone, for example, for contactless payments and convenient pairing of accessories (headphones or speakers).

Nokia 2.4 2/32GB

Budget segment smartphone from Nokia.

The characteristics are ordinary: 6.5-inch screen, Mediatek Helio P22 (MT6762R) chipset, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of main memory, 4500 mAh battery, there is a fingerprint scanner.

And yet, Nokia traditionally has several tricks in stock: the device runs on the stock version of Android, and in addition, on one of the sides of the body you will find a button to call the Google voice assistant.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.5 inches
  • Screen resolution: 1600×720
  • Weight: 195 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Mediatek Helio P22 (MT6762R)
  • Memory capacity: 32 GB
  • RAM capacity: 2 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4500 mAh
  • Rear camera: dual 13/2 MP
  • Front camera: 5 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

Nokia 10

Nokia 10 Render
We've been waiting for the Nokia 10 for so long that since rumors started doing the rounds, it has gone by several names - it was initially supposed to be launched as Nokia 9.1, but over time this has changed to Nokia 9.2, 9.3, and now Nokia 10.

Whether it will come out this year remains to be seen, especially since we still know little about this model. But rumors point to an in-display selfie camera, sapphire crystal display, stainless steel frame and top-end Snapdragon 888 chipset, so it could be a premium phone.

It's also said to have a very different camera setup compared to the Nokia 9 PureView's penta-lens lens, although it's unclear how it will differ.

Samsung Galaxy M31s 6/128GB

An update to the well-known Samsung Galaxy M31 model, which received the letter s. Are there many changes?

The battery capacity has not changed - still the same huge 6000 mAh. But the design of the case is slightly different - the smartphone looks fresher and more interesting. The fingerprint scanner moved to the side power button, the processor and memory capacity remained the same. If earlier a drop-shaped cutout was used for the front camera, now it is simply built into the display.

Vivo X60

Vivo has confirmed that the X60 series will launch in China on December 29, although the phones will likely go on sale in January and won't hit Europe until 2021.

Leaks so far point to a 4,300mAh battery and a Samsung display with a 120Hz refresh rate. And if the Vivo X60 is confirmed to be just 7.3mm thin, this will make it the thinnest 5G smartphone in the world.

Moreover, the latest smartphone from Vivo will be the first in the world to be equipped with Samsung Exynos 1080 chipset.
