Comparison of iPhone 7 and iPhone 8! Differences and differences between the two smartphones

Since Apple presented the eighth iPhone, fans of Apple products have been very concerned about the pressing question - is it worth changing the good old “Seven” to the updated iPhone 8 or 8 Plus? Today we will tell you about how the two gadgets differ from each other, and whether it’s worth buying a new iPhone at all.

Let's start with the design and end with the battery capacity.

Appearance and cost

So, the new G8 has some design differences. This is not to say that they are global, but, nevertheless, they are striking. The back panel of the iPhone 8 is now made of glass, and not aluminum, like the seven. Accordingly, the fragility of the smartphone has become 2 times higher, and given the slippery surface of the glass back panel, it is very easy to drop and break the iPhone 8. Now you definitely can’t live without a good case!

Of course, the manufacturer promises that this glass is as much as 50% stronger than similar materials in previous models. This promise reassures users a little in case the phone accidentally falls, but whether this is actually the case remains to be seen.

The size and weight of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 differ slightly, literally by tenths of a millimeter, meaning even the cases will fit. But the weight increased by 10 grams, and the iPhone 7 was not very light anyway.

The Plus models have a slightly larger difference.

As for the cost of the device, it is approximately 14 thousand higher than previous models, if we compare the younger versions in terms of memory capacity. By the way, the iPhone 8 now does not have a model with 32 GB of memory, only 64 or 256 GB.

Old design, new materials

We were again “sold” the old design, presented back in 2014 (!) with the announcement of the iPhone 6.

If you lay out the latest iPhone models on the table with the front panel facing up, it’s quite easy to make a mistake about which is which. A conscious step by marketers or lazy designers? Let's leave the answer to this question to the people making the final design decisions.

Distinguishing the 8 in a case from last year’s model will be an almost impossible task.

But everything changes when there is no case on the smartphone. New eye-pleasing body colors and a rear glass surface do the trick.

The first reviews from journalists who supported the new product in their hands boil down to a common opinion - the iPhone 8 fits better in the hand , since its back panel is less slippery. For those who don’t like covers, this is good, important news.

According to Apple, the iPhone has never had such durable glass on both sides. It will be more difficult to break.

Conclusion: For those who want to get new tactile sensations from owning an iPhone, “8” is your choice. Unless, of course, you carry your smartphone in a case. And you will be satisfied with the choice of only three colors.

Display

The display remains almost the same, resolution 1334x750 pixels, 326 pixels per inch , Retina HD.

But the eighth iPhone has a “trick” that is unique to it. It's called the True Tone feature. It works quite simply: the display colors themselves adjust to the ambient lighting. By the way, if you pay attention to user reviews, the function works flawlessly.

As soon as you enter a room with poor lighting, the display becomes brighter and the colors become much warmer. As soon as you go outside on a cloudy day, the device will helpfully change the display colors to colder and even bluish shades.

True Tone Technology

The iPhone 8 display is no different from the iPhone 7. It is the same 4.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1334×750 (or the same 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1920×1080, if we talk about the Plus versions). But, the new iPhone now has support for True Tone technology.

How True Tone Technology Works

This technology allows you to adjust color rendering to the environment in which the device operates. This is possible thanks to a four-channel ambient light sensor.

True Tone technology has previously appeared in Apple devices, in particular it was in the iPad Pro tablet.

What about the camera?

Is there a difference in the cameras of the seven and eight? Let's figure it out.

The number of megapixels in the iPhone 8 Plus and the good old “Seven” is the same. This applies to both front and rear cameras.

But there are still differences. The latest version of the flagship can shoot 4K video at really high speed! It is 60 frames per second, in the iPhone 7 in 4K mode it was possible to shoot only at 30 frames per second. Slow motion mode has also improved, now you can shoot in 1080p and at 120 or 240 fps. This is truly one of the most significant changes!

And although Apple claims that the rear camera of the eighth flagship is modified with some kind of mega-cool, large and fast sensor, color filter and “deep” pixels, the average user is unlikely to notice such improvements. Judging by the reviews, the majority of G8 owners claim that they did not see any difference.

iPhone 7 32Gb

  • Screen diagonal: 4.7 inches
  • Screen resolution: 1334×750
  • Weight: 138 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 1
  • Processor: Apple A10 Fusion
  • Memory capacity: 32 GB
  • RAM capacity: 2 GB
  • Battery capacity: 1960 mAh
  • Camera: 12 MP
  • Memory card support: no
  • Support for 4G networks: yes

Method of charging the gadget

Perhaps this is a really significant difference between the eighth iPhone and the seventh. iPhone 8 has wireless charging! The device starts charging after you place it on a small pad called AirPower. By the way, it was for this reason that the back cover of the iPhone 8/8 Plus had to be made of glass.

The new product allows you to charge up to three Apple devices simultaneously. But this charger is sold separately.

In addition, the iPhone 8 has a “fast charging” function and you can charge your device up to 50% in 30 minutes using Apple USB power adapters, the power of which is 29 W, 61 W or 87 W. True, fast charging is also not included in the package and costs from RUB 3,590.00. Moreover, it is also 10 times larger in size than usual, and this is very impractical!

The iPhone 8 comes with a 5-watt, 1-amp charger, exactly the same as the iPhone 7, which means that initially there are no advantages in charging speed over the seven, without purchasing additional accessories.

Price policy

And now, having weighed all the pros and cons, you might think, is it worth buying an updated gadget of the eighth model from the famous company if its price varies within 57 thousand rubles?

The developers did not come up with any particular differences in this model compared to its predecessor, so for the lucky owners of the Seven it would not be advisable to spend a lot of money on purchasing an almost identical model.

But don’t forget about presentation, since many people buy updated gadgets just to be one of the first to have it. In this case, it’s definitely worth standing in long lines at the store so that by the evening you can enjoy your new toy and download everything you need. Therefore, each person must independently make a choice for himself and decide for what purposes he needs an iPhone and only then make an informed decision.

Battery

And here lovers of “apple” products suffered bitter disappointment. The fact is that the iPhone 8 Plus has a smaller battery capacity than the seventh iPhone! It is 2675 mAh, while for the “seven” this figure reached 2900 mAh.

Probably, Apple, after creating the A11 chip and wireless charging, decided not to spend extra money.

But, as the manufacturer claims, the operating time of the new iPhone will be no less than that of the iPhone 7, thanks to a more energy-efficient processor. Judging by the reviews, this is indeed the case. But they could increase the capacity in the new iPhone.

Performance

Of course, it’s cool that the iPhone 8 is now and in the future also the most powerful mobile gadget in the world. I’m not sure that Huawei Mate 10 (announced today) will seriously undermine the position of the iPhone. As a rule, the new generation of Apple smartphones maintains leadership for a whole year after release. And all thanks to the very close integration of software and hardware.

On the one hand, this is a virtue, on the other hand, there is bad news for the eight.

People don't see a difference in performance between the 7th and 8th iPhones. They both work equally fast. Both launch games very quickly, never sag in difficult scenes, and so on.

Now, and in the coming year, there is no point in switching to eight. iPhone 7 feels great in any task. In general, in any.

I talked more about the A11 Bionic processor in my review of the iPhone 8 Plus. Yes, it is designed to work with augmented reality (AR), but the seven can handle all AR applications at once. It is enough to install iOS 11.

If we compare performance in synthetic tests, then, of course, there is a difference (on the left are screenshots from the seven).

It's funny that the regular eight outperformed both the Plus and even the X version in tests. And all thanks to the fact that it has the lowest resolution. Fewer pixels means less information for the processor to process.

The simple formula that made iPhone 8 the king of productivity.

Model colors

The flagship iPhone 8/8+ is available in three colors:

  • Silver (silver);
  • Space gray (gray);
  • Gold (golden).

Here the iPhone 7 wins, it has 5 main body colors available, not counting the limited red.

In defense of the iPhone 8, it is worth saying that red and dark blue colors will eventually go on sale.

So what should you choose?

What to choose - the new iPhone 8/8+ or the proven iPhone 7/7+? After we have told you in detail about all the differences between the models, it is up to you to decide. There are no fundamental differences, only minor improvements; by the way, the issue with the rear glass cover is debatable - whether this is an improvement or a deterioration.

If your budget is limited, then buy a “seven”, but if your funds allow, treat yourself to a brand new iPhone 8. But users are not advised to switch from the seventh to the eighth iPhone, since it was not possible to see much of a difference between them.

Wireless connection

The Wi-FI modules installed in both gadgets are completely identical, so there is no need to hope that the reception quality will be better on the eight. But the Bluetooth function is different, since the seven has a 4.2 module, but the eight has been awarded a 5.0 module, which transmits data much faster.

There are also minor modifications to the eighth model, since the sevens only have GPS and GLONASS installed, but the eighth model is also equipped with Galileo and QZSS, which significantly increases the level of traceability and protection in the event that the phone is stolen or lost.
