How to take a screenshot on iPhone 12, 11, XS, XR, X
New phone models from Apple, iPhone 12, 11 XS, XR and iPhone X, have lost the Home button (which on previous models is used for screenshots), and therefore the creation method has changed slightly.
Many of the functions that were assigned to the Home button are now performed by the on/off button (on the right side of the device), which is also used to take screenshots.
To take a screenshot on iPhone XS/XR/X, press the on/off button and the volume up button at the same time.
It is not always possible to do this the first time: it is usually easier to press the volume up button a split second later (i.e., not exactly simultaneously with the power button), also, if you hold the on/off button for too long, Siri may start (its launch is scheduled by holding this button).
If you suddenly fail, there is another way to take screenshots, suitable for iPhone 12, 11, XS, XR and iPhone X - AssistiveTouch, described later in this manual.
How to take a photo using AssistiveTouch
Like other iPhone models, iPhone X has AssistiveTouch, which is used to perform various actions without using buttons. Among other things, AssistiveTouch allows you to take screen photos. In order to use this feature, you must first enable it. To do this, open the “Settings” menu and go to “General – Accessibility”.
Here you will find the AssistiveTouch feature. Once enabled, a floating button will appear on the screen of your iPhone X, with which you can perform various operations. To take a photo of the screen, click on this button and select “Device - More - Screenshot”. The button will then disappear for a moment and the iPhone X will take a screenshot.

Taking a screenshot on iPhone 8, 7, 6s and others
To take a screenshot on iPhone models with a Home button, just press the On/Off button (on the right side of the phone or at the top on the iPhone SE) and the Home button at the same time - this will work both on the lock screen and in applications on the phone.
Also, as in the previous case, if you cannot press simultaneously, try pressing and holding the on-off button, and after a split second press the “Home” button (personally, this works easier for me).
Method 2. How to take screenshots on iPhone by tapping the case
Starting with iOS 14, the operating system was able to interact with the user through light tapping on the iPhone body. Among the many options, there is also the creation of screenshots. Here's how to set it up:
1. Open the Settings app and go to: Accessibility → Touch → Back Touch.
2. Open the Triple Tap menu (recommended) and select the Screenshot option.
Now, after lightly tapping the back of the iPhone, the system will take a screenshot of the screen.

How to take a long screenshot on iPhone (a snapshot of the entire page at once)
iOS 13 introduces a new feature: swiping the screen and taking long screenshots. Such images are not created in the standard PNG format, but as a PDF document. The peculiarity of this function is that the phone can display not only the visible area in the photo, but also hidden areas of the screen.
If you don’t know how to take a screenshot on an iPhone 11 this way, don’t worry - this method differs little from the standard one. Moreover, you can create such pictures not only in the browser, but also in any application, for example, messenger or Instagram.
The created file is saved in the PDF standard, but is available for editing
- First you need to take a screenshot in the standard way, that is, using the side volume and lock keys or Home.
- A small preview of the created photo will be displayed in the lower left corner of the screen. Quickly tap on it before it disappears.
- At the top of the screen, switch the view from Screen to Full Page.
- After this, a long scrolling area of the entire screen will appear on the right side. Now you can select the area you want to screen.
- Save the selected area by clicking “Crop”, adjusting the screen length and clicking “Done”.
Another way to get a screenshot of a full website page is to download it to your device using the built-in browser functions. This option only works on Safari.
- Open the desired site in your browser and click the export button.
- Among the saving options, find “Create PDF.”
- If this item is not listed, try to find it in the "More" section.
In this case, you will receive a PDF file, not an image, and although you can view it with the built-in browser and send it in the messenger, you will need a special application for editing.
Software Alternatives
If the universal method seems inconvenient to you or one of the buttons on the device does not work, you can take a screenshot in other ways: using the operating system tool - AssistiveTouch, or third-party applications.

AssistiveTouch is a standard iOS feature designed to control your device using gestures. By default it is inactive.
To enable AssistiveTouch, go to the settings of your iPhone or iPad, open the “General” section and then “Universal Access”. Near the “AssistiveTouch” item (in the “Physiology and Motor Skills” section) o.
When you do this, a floating AssistiveTouch button will appear on the display (you can place it anywhere on the screen and move it freely around it). Tapping this button opens a menu of available actions, including the “Take screenshot” command.
Awesome Screenshot
Awesome Screenshot is a free extension for the Safari mobile web browser. With its help, you can take pictures of the entire page of a website opened in the browser or only its visible part.
After installation, the program icon will not appear on the desktop - it will be hidden in the “Actions” section of the Safari browser. To activate the screenshot function, go to the specified section and move the “Screenshot” slider to the “On” position.
As soon as the photo is ready, it will immediately go to the mini-editor built into the program. With this editor you can crop the edges of the image, mark the desired places with arrows and add text inscriptions to the picture.
Awesome Screenshot is officially supported by devices that run iOS 8: iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPad, iPad Air and Air2, iPad mini, iPod Touch and others. Support for iOS 9, 10 and earlier versions is not declared by the manufacturer.
Activator from Cydia (for jailbroken iPhones)
Activator is another free app, or rather a tweak for a jailbroken iPhone that allows you to take screenshots without a lock button. Or rather, creating screenshots is not its main function: it simply gives the user the opportunity to assign this action, for example, to the “Home” button. And when “photographing” the screen, press only it. By the way, instead of buttons, it is permissible to assign this operation to a gesture (swiping a finger across the screen, pinching, stretching, etc.) or movement (shaking the phone).
Activator officially supports iOS 9 (iPhone 6s) and earlier system releases. Support for iOS 10 has not yet been announced, but will likely be implemented in the near future.
Why take a screenshot on your iPhone at all?
A screenshot is one way to share information.
For example, you can use a screenshot to send some funny message or picture that you saw on Instagram or Facebook. This is a little faster than saving the image to your phone.
You can also use a screenshot to share various useful information, for example, if you saw a recipe or a cool song, you took a screenshot of the screen and sent it to a friend, or saved it for yourself to return to later. It's comfortable. Just remember to clear your phone of screenshots . For this, Apple specially came up with a separate section in the “Photos” application for screenshots, it is called “ Screenshots ”. Go there from time to time and clear unnecessary screenshots. As you can see, I have already accumulated a sufficient number of them.
iPhone XR
Apple is currently the leader in the smartphone market.
The line of phones is advancing every year and growing with new technologies. The iPhone XR looks just like the iPhone X. It's time to say goodbye to the old iPhone design with the home button and bezels at the top and bottom of the screen. Now all new iPhones have a notch, full-front display, rounded corners and gesture controls. One of the reasons why Apple was able to reduce the cost of a budget smartphone is its display. Instead of an OLED display, LED was used. According to Apple, this is the most advanced LED display of any smartphone. Apple's LED displays have always been the best on the market, and this one is no exception. 6 new colors will be a compelling reason for many users to buy the iPhone XR.
iPhone XR is available in white, black, blue, coral, yellow and Product Red.
The iPhone XR has Haptic Touch, which replaces 3D Touch. To open additional functions, you just need to press longer on the screen. After this you will feel vibration feedback. According to Apple, the same technology is used in the trackpads of the new MacBooks.
