OPPO is quite poorly known outside of China. Wonderful planar magnetic headphones have been produced under this brand and have been officially supplied to Russia for several years now - our brand is perhaps best known to audiophiles here. But its main business is related to smartphones, and in China, OPPO’s position is strong – along with Vivo, the brand ranks in the top three in sales. Both brands, owned by the BBK concern, came to Russia almost simultaneously, about a year ago, and are taking very similar steps both in promoting their smartphones and in development.
We are, of course, more interested in the second. We have already written about Vivo’s unusual flagship – the NEX model with a retractable front camera and a fingerprint scanner located directly on the display. Now it's time for OPPO Find X - an even more expensive and no less unusual smartphone. It doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner, nor does it have a mini-jack, but that’s where the parallels with Apple smartphones end. The matter is done without cutting out and copying some other important features of the iPhone - Find X is much more radical. There is no front or main camera or any sensors on it at all. They are all hidden inside the case and extend if necessary - to unlock the gadget using the facial recognition system and applications that require access to the camera. At the same time, the front panel is given over to the screen almost entirely, there are minimal frames only at the bottom and top, and at the edges the display is curved in the manner of older Samsung Galaxy models.
Technologically, this is one of the most interesting smartphones of this year: in addition to retractable cameras, it also supports proprietary SuperVOOC charging technology, which allows you to fully charge the smartphone in 35 minutes. It is equipped with a front camera with a resolution of 25 megapixels, a dual rear camera (20+16 megapixels), a 6.4-inch OLED display, the flagship Qualcomm platform, a number of original software solutions... and costs 69,990 rubles. Is such a harsh price justified for OPPO Find X? Let's check!

OPPO Find X – information about the filling according to the CPU Z application |
What a beautiful!
The world of gadgets is depressing: phones are similar to each other, there is practically no difference. It's great that OPPO managed to come up with a beautiful device in its own style. Huge screen, thin frames, shiny back with shimmer. What a beautiful lollipop!
Gradient transitions look gorgeous, the body gets dirty with terrible force, but this is nonsense against the backdrop of such luxury. Perhaps the most beautiful smartphone of the year, very, very pleasant.
Screens in a frameless style are no longer surprising, but there is no “unibrow” here, and they managed to fit the earpiece in the usual place so that the quality of voice transmission does not suffer.
The build is perfect, the materials are excellent: curved Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, and a metal frame on the sides.
Hardware components
In terms of components, this is a real flagship smartphone, which is in no way inferior to the best competitors. The Snapdragon 600 series processors are no longer used here, only the real top models.
This means Snapdragon 845, 8GB memory, 256GB storage, 3730mAh battery. The device works as smoothly as possible, there were no slowdowns during the week of testing.
Oddly enough, there is no fingerprint scanner. This forces you to use only facial recognition. You need to open the camera, but the process happens quickly. It seems that the device will unlock before the camera opens and closes. The level of reliability is quite high; strangers are not allowed into the system.
3D face unlock works like on the iPhone X or Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition. Infrared lighting is used to perform facial recognition correctly. This improves recognition accuracy, which is twice as high as a fingerprint scanner, according to Oppo. In any case, there is simply no fingerprint scanner here, although nothing prevented it from being included in the screen, as was done in the Vivo Nex.
There is also no headphone jack, but an adapter is included in the package. The case does not have any protection against water, but given the moving parts, this is to be expected. It is better not to get into the rain with the device.
There is also no support for memory cards. Instead, there are two SIM card slots. The storage capacity is 256 GB, but for some this may not be enough.
He has a periscope camera!
I liked the hidden camera feature. Firstly, the simple shooting process looks very impressive: you click on the icon, start shooting, and before that a camera appears. It leaves quickly and smoothly, the latency is minimal for such a form factor, which is impressive.
Secondly, OPPO did not copy the protruding camera on the iPhone, as competitors do, but elegantly hid everything in the body.
Immediately the question is: will the camera break if dropped? It depends on your luck. We conducted such an experiment. We held the phone near our ear, imitating a conversation, and accidentally dropped the OPPO Find X, as if it had slipped out. The phone fell onto the sofa, during which time the camera managed to slide back into place. Just like a turtle falling into its shell at the sight of danger.
OPPO said that the slider camera can withstand 300,000 operations, which is enough for five years of active use of the phone. I can say from myself that the area around the camera collects fine dust and debris; you should not wash the phone under the tap. Are you planning a vacation in hot countries? Beware of sandstorms.
Does the phone drain faster due to the moving part of the camera? To be honest, I didn’t take any special measurements, but I didn’t notice any significant difference compared to regular phones.
I have no questions about the shooting quality of the OPPO Find X. A phone with two Sony modules of 16 and 20 megapixels, it has an advanced front camera and its own artificial intelligence for scene recognition. The bells and whistles are, in general, common for a flagship, but this camera that pops out at the moment of shooting is the most unusual thing that can be in a phone. Even my wife took the smartphone for use for a few days; she really liked the processing of the photos. Automation will add a glow and rejuvenate the skin; making portraits and self-portraits is a pleasure. And in other modes, the camera works great, except that at night the shots don’t always come out perfect, but this depends on the shooting conditions and the skills of the photographer himself.
Classic, but with a special twist
At first glance, the layout of the controls here is classic, but unusual, since most manufacturers have long switched to a “one-sided” placement of buttons on the right side. Therefore, you will have to get used to the volume keys on the left side and the power keys on the right for some time.
A retractable SIM card tray (double-sided), a USB Type-C connector, a microphone and three oval holes for the speaker are located on the bottom edge, and a second microphone for noise reduction is on the top.
The earpiece, which also acts as a second speaker for the stereo system, is elegantly placed exactly at the junction of the upper edge of the case and the display glass. To the right of the speaker slot there are proximity and light sensors, but they cannot be detected visually.
But the front camera is clearly visible, a small hole for which is made in the upper left corner of the display. This technological solution has become the norm for modern devices, and drop-shaped notches are likely to remain the preserve of smartphones in the budget and mid-price segments.
A protective film (or the thinnest glass) with an oleophobic coating is already glued to the surface of the screen at the factory. Its edges are clearly visible on the front camera and can be felt with your fingers when touching the rounded side edges of the display.
The main chamber unit has the classic elongated shape of “previous” flagships and protrudes above the body by about 2 mm. In addition to the camera lenses, you can see a tiny hole for an auxiliary microphone and two light sensors.
Fast and reliable protection
The camera helps protect the data on your phone. The OPPO Find X has a facial recognition function: there is a combination of an IR camera, IR illumination and a projection of 15,000 points. It sounds like a bid for success, but it is true: the system works quickly. Moreover, this takes into account the fact that the camera must leave the body, recognize the face and hide back. We compared it with iPhone X on iOS 12, so the system works slower there.
Performance
The internal components here are state-of-the-art. Oppo R15 Pro had an issue with RAM management. Running just a few applications consumed almost 4.5 GB of the 8 GB. A large amount of RAM does not mean that you do not need to save it.
Testing was performed in the Geekbench 4 and 3DMark benchmarks. For some reason AnTuTu did not start here.
Single-core testing in Geekbench gave a result of 2391 points. For comparison, OnePlus 6 scored 2454 points, Galaxy S9 received 2144. In multi-core testing, the result was 6216 versus 8967 for OnePlus 6 and 8116 for Galaxy S9. In 3DMark the result was 4148 points, OnePlus 6 scored 4680, Galaxy S9 4672.
The phone charges very quickly
Devices are becoming cooler and more powerful, but all this joy turns to dust when the battery runs out. What to do? Manufacturers took two paths. Some increase the capacity of built-in batteries, offering smartphones with high-capacity batteries. Others are working to speed up the charging process.
In the case of OPPO Find X, we get a 3400 mAh battery and fast charging feature. It amazed me; I have never seen such speeds in phones, when the battery is literally gaining strength before our eyes. VOOC charging fully charges your phone in 35-40 minutes. Typically, during this time, phones are charged by 50–60%, and a full cycle takes an hour and a half. And then in 5 minutes at the outlet it’s already 10%. It's amazing how fast it is.
The magic only works when using the original charger and original cable. Moreover, as I understand it, it is not yet possible to buy additional charging in Russia. Alas, it’s a pity: you could buy a unit for work or for the dacha as a backup. If you use “regular” charging, you won’t get such amazing speed.
Screen
The display in this model is quite outstanding: it has a resolution of 3168 × 1440 pixels or, in video slang, 3K, also known as QHD+, the pixel density of the matrix is 513 ppi, and the maximum brightness is 800 nits. But that is not all. The manufacturer specifically highlights support for the HDR+ standard, which means full coverage of the color range of the human eye - the expanded color palette corresponds to 100% DCI-P3. The matrix is capable of displaying 10-bit color depth, which in professional circles is referred to as Ultra Vision Screen. The number of colors on this screen reaches 1.07 billion (for comparison, for conventional 8-bit displays it is 16.7 million).
This display is truly a pleasure to browse the internet, watch movies and play games on. In order for the picture to change smoothly, the manufacturer equipped the matrix with support for frame rates up to 120 Hz.
The settings provide an automatic mode, when the processor itself increases the frequency of the display depending on the content displayed on it. To save battery power, it is recommended to set the standard frequency to 60 Hz.
What's missing here?
It’s convenient to pay for purchases with your phone or watch, so you expect this function to be everywhere. In China, NFC is not held in high esteem; QR codes reign there, but they have not taken root in Russia. Unfortunately, OPPO Find X did not include NFC.
There is also no protection from dust and moisture, although taking into account the concept of the device, where the camera moves out of the body, there can be no question of complete protection.
There is also no 3.5 mm port; you can connect regular headphones only through an adapter. I don’t see a problem with this: it’s more convenient to listen to music through Bluetooth headphones, and when you buy a phone for 70 thousand, it’s somehow strange to worry about this. I used a Sony SBH90C paired with OPPO Find X, it’s a great thing, I’ll write about it too.
I thought that there would be a place for wireless charging in the glass case, but there is none.

Introduction
Nowadays, the OPPO brand is no longer familiar only to enthusiasts who regularly follow new mobile products.
But it seems that even advanced specialists do not understand why this manufacturer remains among the top five global smartphone suppliers. After all, OPPO has been deprived of the Russian market in recent years. No, despite the protracted crisis, it is important for all companies, and the Chinese manufacturer has made attempts to gain a foothold on it more than once. However, we have invariably encountered a lack of understanding among the average domestic buyer, what is it about OPPO smartphones that requires them to be paid for, like for devices from leading brands? Moreover, he did not have a full-fledged flagship device that would indicate the level of the company’s technology. I don’t know if the situation will change now, but OPPO has a flagship smartphone. It received the name Find X. The manufacturer is trying to build a whole legend that the Find series has always been top-end and consisted of advanced devices for its time. At the same time, for some reason they include the Finder smartphone from 2012, which few people remember at all. And if you remove it, you will be left with the OPPO Find 5 and Find 7, which were really good at the time of their release, but the last of them was introduced more than four years ago. So it’s difficult to create a continuous history of the flagship line here.
However, neither us, reviewers, nor buyers should be particularly concerned about this. The main thing is that the smartphone is good. Even better if it does so considering its price. And it is in this matter that the main trial awaits us today.
This will be an atypical smartphone review for our site. In a good way (I hope) subjective. At one time, the authors of Overclockers.ru were the first to begin adding many instrumental tests that had previously not been found in similar materials in domestic publications. But behind a bunch of numbers and screenshots, in my opinion, they sometimes missed the point. Both individual points based on live observations and an overall balanced and thoughtful assessment. I'll try to avoid this.
But let's start with the numbers.

Despite the flagship characteristics, the first thing that attracts attention is the price. The smartphone is already officially on sale in Russia and costs... seventy thousand rubles.
A couple of weeks ago, there were offers in Chinese online stores for a little more than 50 thousand rubles, but at the time of writing this review they were not available. So you have to focus on the official recommended cost. And even though after the announcement of the new Apple iPhones this amount no longer seems exorbitant, serious arguments are needed to sell a smartphone from a Chinese brand at the price of a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. They come with a good headset, but these days you won’t surprise our customers with gifts – they have recently become the norm in the flagship segment.
So, how can OPPO Find X compete with the latest ninth version of the founder of the “tablet phone” genre? Well, for example, in memory capacity. Note 9 for this money will be “minimum”, and to get more built-in memory, you need to pay extra. But nothing else catches the eye. The display resolution is lower, and traditionally, flagships from the Middle Kingdom ignore parameters that have become the norm even in the middle segment, such as the presence of NFC and degrees of protection according to the IP standard.
So what's wrong with this? Of course, those who are familiar with smartphones already know this. Well, we'll tell you about everything in order.
OPPO Find X review: packaging and accessories
Oh, it’s not for nothing that OPPO Find X was presented in Paris. The box here clearly evokes the corporate packaging style of the famous French luxury brand. It looks good, if not premium. I'm glad that the box form factor is traditional for modern flagship smartphones - without the huge flat boxes that some Chinese brands abuse in vain attempts to seem more expensive than they are.
The packaging does not provide any information about the device. On the front side there is only the name of the smartphone, and on the back there is the official marking.
We received a fully certified device for testing; these are the ones that will be sold in domestic stores.
Everything inside is also orderly: the first thing we are greeted with is the smartphone itself, carefully wrapped in a sort of thick polyethylene case. Considering that there are no questions about the strength of the box, the reliability of the packaging is beyond doubt.
Let's put the smartphone aside for now. What's underneath?
And there is a massive charger with a “native” European connector, made in Apple’s corporate style. And the last doubts about which company’s accessories inspired the designers are removed by a wired headset.
It has a USB Type-C connector. The smartphone does not have a 3.5 mm output (so we found a minus in comparison with Samsung devices, where the “minijack” is still present). So you can use your own wired headphones only through an adapter. Fortunately, it is also included in the kit.
In addition, noteworthy are the cloth for wiping the almost entirely glass device and the cover-cover, which will allow you to clean at least the back surface less often.
Let's look at it in more detail. The hard plastic transparent “bumper” would be unremarkable if not for the form factor of the OPPO Find X. There is no point in keeping the intrigue any longer.
Yes, everyone already knows: this is a rare type of smartphone-slider with a sliding top part. Therefore, the cover is open at the top. At first I was afraid that it wouldn’t stick well to the device at all. But no, the cover is put on very tightly, moreover, if you accidentally don’t push your smartphone into it enough, as happened to me the first time, then removing the cover can be problematic - I was really afraid of breaking either it (nothing yet) or the OPPO Find X (already sadder) ).
Our hero in the case looks, frankly, so-so. Most of the image component is immediately lost.
There is an even more luxurious version of the OPPO Find X, created in collaboration with the famous Italian sports car manufacturer – Lamborghini Edition. There, the included case is nicer: like the back of the smartphone, it is made to look like carbon fiber and looks much more interesting than ordinary plastic.
A quick look at the offers of Chinese online stores showed that a certain range of cases for the OPPO Find X already exists, so future owners of the new product can be offered to choose something interesting “from the outside.” In the meantime, the “new thing” is arriving by Russian post, just handle the device carefully, but every day you can enjoy its appearance, not spoiled by the standard case.
OPPO Find X review: appearance and design
With the screen turned off, we have an ordinary modern smartphone in front of us. Yes, it is large, but 74.2 mm in width is within the acceptable range for a modern user. The vast majority of previous generation models with 16:9 aspect ratio screens and a 5.5″ diagonal were 75–76 mm wide. And over the past two seasons, smartphones from other brands have already accustomed us to great length (or height, whichever is more familiar to us).
A thickness of more than nine millimeters is actually not felt at all. First of all, thanks to the sloping edges on all sides. And the weight of 186 g is adequate for such a volume of the device; it does not feel like a “brick” in the hand.
Everything changes when you turn on the screen. The manufacturer estimates that it occupies 93.8% of the front panel area - this is a record at the moment. And you believe him. I haven’t had such a wow effect since the first Xiaomi Mi Mix.
Then for some reason the manufacturer made the display smaller, increasing the side frames, and the feeling of miracle disappeared. In my opinion, iPhones with the letter X in the name are guilty of the same thing (well, maybe XL, sorry, Xs Max will not be perceived as a small craft with thick borders).
OPPO Find X has side and top frames that are beyond praise. I can't help but be skeptical about the manufacturer's claims of 1.65 and 1.91mm widths. My eye, supplemented by a Soviet steel ruler, showed something closer to 2 and 2.5 mm from the edges of the smartphone to the “first pixels” of the display, respectively. But this is also a worthy result, and visually, I repeat, the frames here are excellent.
You can, for example, compare it with Samsung devices. So, the Galaxy Note 9, with the same display diagonal of 6.4″, has a case width of 76.4 mm versus 74.2 for our hero. And the Galaxy S9+ at 6.2″ has 73.8 mm. These comparisons are not entirely correct due to slightly different aspect ratios of smartphone screens. However, the combination of 6.4-inch screen diagonal and 74.2 mm body width achieved by OPPO Find X is still impressive.
There is a “chin” at the bottom, but, unlike most competitors, it is practically invisible (we are not looking at a sort of Mikhail Shufutinsky, but rather Keira Knightley) - the manufacturer talks about 3.4 mm. And there is no “unibrow”, which, apparently, will soon begin to distinguish brands that respect their customers.
But there are questions about flowers. There are only two basic options, and both, as is fashionable this season, are iridescent. The first is from black to blue, . The second is from the same black to crimson, it is called “ruby bordeaux”. It seems that not a single one is truly masculine. Luckily, they look much better in reality than in the official photos.
And the blue is not so bright, it’s more like a sort of dark turquoise (you can live with it), and the raspberry is actually closer to dark lilac. This is exactly what I chose for the test. In general, if you like everything but are confused by the colors, be sure to go and look at the OPPO Find X in person. Or you can save up for the third option.
Yes, there is an excellent variety of smartphone without any question in appearance. This is the already mentioned exclusive OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition. However, it is exclusive because it is more expensive. Moreover, it is noticeable: this device can already compete in price with the top-end Apple iPhone Xs - its official cost is 1,690 euros.
Despite the “carbon” back and twice the amount of built-in memory, this will be a narrowly niche product (and I was also confused by the somewhat gypsy corporate theme of the shell; it’s good that it can be changed). However, in some markets similar models (for example, Huawei Porsche Design) are popular. But in Russia, like these products, OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition is not planned to be sold.
So we return to our “regular” OPPO Find X in the “raspberry jacket”.
At the top of the rear there is a shaped insert of the same retractable camera module. Considering that the objective lenses are still not visible, and we managed to make the module completely hidden from the front, it was worth trying to implement the same on the back side. However, this glossy black insert is not particularly annoying and for some, on the contrary, it will be pleasant to enliven the appearance of the smartphone. Otherwise they become completely the same.
The buttons are standard “hardware”, here we can only praise the manufacturer for not going into minimalism with touch controls. Moreover, they don’t play right from the factory, like the power button on many Samsung Galaxy S9+. The location here is the same: Power is on the right, and a separate volume control is on the left. All buttons fit neatly under your finger, so you don’t have to reach for them. You don't have to look for (hello, Sony!) a fingerprint sensor either. True, due to its complete absence. For biometric unlocking in OPPO Find X, facial recognition is solely responsible. But more on that below.
The body design is monolithic - with the exception of the retractable module, of course. Materials: Gorilla Glass 5 (on both sides) and a metal frame, painted with the same iridescent enamel to match the color of the body. Both glasses have curved sides (like Korean flagships) and additionally ground ends (what marketers awkwardly call 2.5D).
The tray for two nano SIM cards is located at the bottom. There is also a single calling speaker with a main microphone. And in the center is the only USB Type-C port.
From the top of the front side, the elements are not striking. Only a very modest grilled slot for the earpiece is barely noticeable. And even that one is not real - in fact, it is just a sound guide, and the real speaker is located in that very retractable part. And so that the speaker can be clearly heard, a slot was also made in the outer panel.
I’ll say right away that I didn’t have any complaints about the volume during calls - the interlocutor can be clearly heard even on a noisy street. And at the same time, the smartphone, although it sounds outside, is at an acceptable level; I can’t say that others hear the conversation better than with the same Samsung.
An additional microphone for the hardware noise reduction system is located in the same module at the top end. But the infrared sensor will not allow you to control home appliances - it is used in the system to assess illumination.
We can talk about the appearance of the OPPO Find X for a long time, and there really is no fault here: the smartphone looks just great, the materials are decent, even fears about the colors did not come true. We'll look at the retractable module in more detail in the story about cameras. In the meantime, the expectedly enthusiastic result for the section: everything is beyond all praise, it is truly premium and a breath of fresh air against the backdrop of similar bars of varying degrees of roundness, bristling with cameras on both sides. For those who are afraid of getting an attack of trypophobia with the release of new multi-camera smartphones next year, OPPO Find X will be a salvation.
But only if the test results correspond to the flagship level. Well, let's see.
OPPO Find X review: display test
Such a cool case is just a frame for the OPPO Find X screen. It’s impressive here: a 6.4″ diagonal OLED matrix. The edges are bent, and the black does not glow at all (the contrast is close to infinity - usually devices define the black glow in such cases as zero).
Brightness is stated at 650 cd/m2? – and this is quite similar to the truth. The image on the display is clearly visible in bright sunlight.
When testing with a colorimeter, I got even a little more - 657 cd/?. And the minimum brightness is only 3.37 cd/?, it definitely won’t dazzle at night.
But there are questions about automatic adjustment. It is present in the settings, but the standard sensor simply has nowhere to hide. According to the manufacturer, an infrared sensor on the top panel is used to assess illumination. However, I was not able to notice how the auto-adjustment works.
Accordingly, there is no newfangled automatic adjustment of color temperature to lighting conditions (in fact, after using a flagship smartphone with this, you quickly begin to note with displeasure its absence in simpler models).
In defense of the OPPO Find X, it is worth saying that it somehow manages to maintain a comfortable level of display brightness, and even with a sharp change in lighting there are no problems with the screen. Perhaps there is still auto-adjustment, it’s just so lightning fast that, unlike other devices, you don’t have time to notice its operation.
Otherwise, there are more than enough settings; you can set the same color temperature, font sizes, and set which applications are allowed to go into full-screen mode, and much, much more.
But what about the matrix itself? Everything is fine with her. The colors are natural (the color gamut is stated to be 97% of NTSC and support for the DCI-P3 color gamut). Of course, there is no need to remember any air gaps in 2022. The gradients are smooth, the gray color doesn’t “float” anywhere, there is traditionally a slight shift in the color balance towards blue, but not as infuriating as that of AMOLED matrices in the Samsung Galaxy S6 and older.
Gamma curves:
The same high color temperature in the “default” mode. Cool colors in the settings are unlikely to be useful to anyone.
The color gamut, traditionally for OLED and AMOLED matrices, is wider than sRGB:
The shade accuracy is at a good level:
Viewing angles are excellent; even at the sharpest angle, the image from all sides is generally the same as straight on.
In fact, with such large screens, on the contrary, you already begin to want less to be seen from the side, otherwise privacy in the same public transport suffers (here is a banal joke about a smartphone for 70 thousand rubles and traveling by metro).
There is no point in testing the uniformity of illumination on a black background: something that does not glow in principle cannot glow unevenly.
Display resolution 2340 x 1080, aspect ratio 19.5:9, pixel density 401 ppi. Witnesses of the Pentile sect (however, I don’t know if LG matrices have it, but here it seems like there is one) can try to look at the subpixels, but for me the image looks monolithic, there are no color “ladders” even at the clearest and most contrasting transitions.
The smartphone comes with a protective glass already installed. It is glued evenly, without bubbles and covers the edges - this is the case when you can really live with it. And the quality of the oleophobic coating does not raise any questions. Well, when it gets damaged or worn out, you will always get a pristine, original screen. It is true that it is not known what the coating is there. Also, I was not immediately able to adjust the vibration response so that it was comfortable. Reviews usually don’t write about this, but it’s these little things that make up the perception of the device. Especially when it comes to the expensive segment. But the vibration motor is powerful - it should be felt even from your outerwear.
Oh yes, since we’re talking about touching the screen, here’s another objective test. I don’t have any more fingers, but I don’t want to put anything else on such beauty.
In general, “what do we need these numbers for, we can see everything.” And indeed: no matter how much I would like to find fault with the “overrated Chinese”, the display, in my very experienced opinion, is visually in no way inferior to that of the Samsung Galaxy S9+ lying next to it. And this also deserves praise.
But we'll find something to grumble about. In flagships, Vivo, no stranger to OPPO, you can already find a fingerprint sensor built into the screen. Considering the manufacturer’s reluctance to spoil the smooth back (and also, importantly, the price of the smartphone!) it was worth borrowing a solution from its “relatives”. There would be one more point in favor of Find X when compared with the tops of leading manufacturers. But, alas, it's just a nice big screen.
And in comparison with the same Samsung flagships, you can pay attention to one more flaw. The manufacturer has added an always-on screen mode, similar to the Always On Display from the Korean manufacturer. Here it is modestly called a “screen clock,” and it quickly becomes clear why.
It's just a screen clock. And the date is also displayed at the bottom.
You can neither choose their type nor add a picture. Showing notifications is only possible for WeChat and QQ, which are not popular with us. There is not even a percentage charge, which is what I especially missed after the Samsung. In the absence of an LED indicator (yes, there is none here), without “waking up” the smartphone, you cannot even understand whether it is charging, for example, or not. Or maybe it’s already fully charged. Overall, the always-on screen functionality is in its infancy.
Always On Display of a healthy person:
This is understandable in principle; Samsung has been developing this technology for more than one generation of devices, and the first options also looked meager. However, having such an example, it was still worth at least adding the charging percentage. I’m not talking about such non-obvious moments as the movement of elements across the screen.
OLED displays are known to fade over time. In normal use this is difficult to deal with, but in cases where similar elements are displayed in the same place for a long time, burn-in can become noticeable quite quickly. To avoid this, things like navigation icons or the always-on screen saver need to be moved around it. And in the same Samsung this happens in a short interval and is hardly noticeable to the user. And in OPPO Find X, the “on-screen clock” jumps across the entire screen. They can be found in any corner, and it's not that annoying, but it is clear that work on these functions has just begun.
OPPO Find X review: hardware platform and performance
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and 8 GB of RAM. That's it, you can move on to the next section.
Okay, okay, some screenshots will be:
The main thing is that there are no failures. The interface, not burdened by the difficult Korean heredity, as they say, “flies”. Even heavy applications are rarely unloaded from memory, and when necessary, they launch and work quickly.
The same Samsung just this year began to install 6 GB of RAM, and eight Korean gigabytes of RAM we will apparently see only four on each side of the flexible screen next year (oh yes, they are in the 512 GB version of the Galaxy Note 9 for 90 thousand rubles).
Here, more than 5.5 GB is free after startup. And after a couple of weeks of “uptime” with full use of the smartphone (and even tests) - more than four.
And the manufacturer’s reasonable approach to the display resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels deserves a special compliment. It's enough to provide excellent image clarity without putting too much strain on the hardware (especially when playing games). As a result, OPPO Find X does not have to repeat the clown act of other manufacturers with an ultra-clear matrix that actually works at a lower resolution.
In general, we took top-end hardware and didn’t spoil anything; in terms of performance in all its aspects, it’s a real flagship solution.
A tidy sum
The Russian price of OPPO Find X is impressive - 69,990 rubles at the start of sales. Expensive? Here is an example of the official retail prices for other models of this level:
- Samsung Galaxy S9+ - 66,990 rubles;
- Sony Xperia XZ3 - 69,990 rubles;
- LG G7 - 59,990 rubles;
- HTC U 12+ - 59,990 rubles;
- Huawei Mate 20 Pro — 77,770 rubles.
At the same time, you can buy thousands of Xiaomi Mi 8 for 30 rubles, which will have exactly the same processor, but if you continue to talk like this, the text will turn into a rant on the topic “why overpay” or “who needs Android at the price of an iPhone”? Well, let’s say you just want and have the opportunity to buy, why not. Moreover, there is also a more expensive and spectacular version of the OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition.

This year is not over yet, I think that interesting technological toys will appear in November-December, but I can say that I will remember OPPO Find X for a long time. This is probably the best thing I've tried all year.
The phone is beautiful, technologically advanced, with shortcomings, but somehow it is original and you want to use it. Even though there is no NFC here, for the absence of which devices are mercilessly criticized on the Internet. But he is so handsome that I am ready to forgive him for it.
Black or navy?
The company did a good job on the design of the device, adhering to corporate restraint in the design. For example, the case color is offered in only two options: black - with a ceramic back cover, and marine - with a glass back cover. We tested the “marine” version, the mirror surface of the back of which magically changes shade.
The main color is turquoise, but it can be purple, dark blue and titanium, depending on the viewing angle and lighting. Moreover, somehow in this mirror you can see your second reflection with a greenish tint, reminiscent of a hologram.
The smartphone received fashionable rounded side edges of the display and back cover, which smoothly converge at the frame of the case. There are also roundings on the top and bottom edges, but they are small. The frame itself is made of aircraft aluminum, which guarantees the strength and rigidity of the structure.
The power button on the right side is convenient to press with both the thumb of the right hand and the middle finger of the left. To make it easier to visually find on the body, the designers made a small groove in it and tinted it green. Looks nice.
Another highlight of the design is the small depressions on the top and bottom edges. In addition to the visual effect, they provide a pleasant tactile sensation.
Software
If you're not familiar with the ColorOS bootloader, it's very similar to Apple iOS. There is no list of applications; icons for all programs are on the home screens. You can create folders and store them there.
ColorOS 5.1 is installed on top of Android 8.1. It's good to see the latest version of Android as the Oppo R15 Pro comes with Android 8.0. The speed there was not the highest, unlike the device in question. Surely the Snapdragon 845 should be thanked for this, but the system optimization should also be at a good level.
There are quite a few applications installed, in this case the Chinese version of the device was considered. The device will be sold in other countries, so the Google Play store will be installed on it.
The software shell cannot be called bad, but it is not among the best either. If you wish, you can install another bootloader like Nova Launcher and customize it as you wish.
Answers to basic questions
How to choose a smartphone?
Choosing a smartphone is a very responsible and sometimes very difficult process. After all, you need to choose exactly the smartphone that will satisfy most of your needs. Here are the selection criteria that you should consider when choosing a new gadget:
- Specifications;
- Mandatory presence of a Full HD screen;
- Supports the latest versions of the Android operating system.
Where is the best place to buy?
There are 3 ways to buy a smartphone.
The first is purchasing from an online store. This method is characterized by a slightly lower cost of the goods. But the low cost, relatively average, is compensated by a large number of problems. You never know in what condition your purchase will arrive or whether it will arrive at all.
The second way is to purchase from a local hardware store. The most common option, which hardly requires any explanation. The advantage of this method is the opportunity to ask a consultant about the seller’s product, but it is worth remembering that the only goal pursued by the seller is to sell. Therefore, you should first familiarize yourself with the characteristics and read reviews about the product you are purchasing.
The third way is to buy a used smartphone. There are also pros and cons here. The main disadvantage is unreliability and lack of warranty. The main advantage is the cost, which is often reduced by 40-50% of the original cost.
Autonomy
The battery capacity is 3730 mAh and it performs very well. It lasts for a full day without any problems, or even a day and a half before you need an outlet. If you don't play mobile games, the duration will be even longer. The testing looked at using a smartphone to work on Twitter, Chrome, Reddit and a number of instant messengers throughout the day.
It uses Oppo VOOC fast charging standard, which is fast charging. The company has finally switched to the modern USB-C interface, although it could have done this even earlier. There is no wireless charging, although the glass case does not interfere with its operation.
