iPhone 6 Plus: complete analysis from iFixit (7 out of 10 on the repairability scale)

The housings of iPhone and iPad mobile devices, unlike competitive solutions, have always been non-separable. Thanks to this feature, Apple could guarantee its users unprecedented performance in a very compact package, the assembly of which never had even the slightest complaints. In technical terms, each generation of iPhone and iPad became more or less complex to one degree or another, which made it problematic to replace their components in the event of failure. The latest reincarnation of Apple smartphones in the form of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus was no exception. However, with certain skills and special inexpensive equipment, the process of disassembling and replacing certain components of these devices can be done even at home in just a few minutes.

So how to disassemble iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus?

Using a special screwdriver, unscrew the screws located on the bottom end of the device:

For this procedure, a unique Pentaloble screwdriver from the 54 Bit Driver Kit is used, which can be easily ordered in one of the specialized domestic or foreign online stores. The presence of non-standard screws in this case is justified by limiting unauthorized access to the inside of the device. Despite conflicting information, it is not necessary to heat any part of the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus before disassembling it.

If you are not confident in your abilities

I hope the instructions weren't too complicated. Repairing modern equipment is surgical work, and there is nothing you can do about it.

I see the following advantages in replacing the display on an iPhone yourself:

+ savings of about 1-3 thousand rubles; + the process is exciting:) + there is no need to go to the service center if it is far away; + there is no risk of getting caught by a bad master.

All this is good, but there are also obvious disadvantages that you have to put up with:

it is impossible to predict the quality of a spare part, it is impossible to replace a low-quality one; there is no guarantee for work; if something happens, there is nowhere to turn; you need to purchase a special tool (if you don’t have one); risk of damaging other spare parts.

What do we choose? You decide. Personally, I would give it to a master. If anything, you can ask him. And no matter how much you take offense at yourself, you can’t bring the dead cable of the Home button back to life. If you have other opinions, write them in the comments.

Use a suction cup or special tape to open the device:

For this procedure, a specialized iSlack suction cup or the most common non-marking double-sided tape can be used. Since there is a high probability of dropping the phone during disassembly at home, it is better to hold the device above a soft surface.

Transferring components to a new module

If you've gotten this far, the process won't seem complicated. :) The main thing here is to put it the way it was. The placement of connectors on the cables does not leave much room for errors. The main thing is to place the metal shield not under the train of the upper part, but above it. Many people get confused, and as a result, we can cause stains to form on the matrix.

Again, pay maximum attention to the TouchID cable . Do not damage it under any circumstances.

To reassemble the upper module you will also need double-sided tape . Be prepared to cut thin, small strips and apply them carefully with tweezers.

Using a screwdriver, unscrew the metal plate that holds the front panel of the device:

A small standard screwdriver from any quality tool set can be used for this procedure. Philips screws are used here, which, unlike external Pentaloble, do not have a unique design.

iFixit specialists disassembled the iPhone 6s (23 photos + video) » 24Gadget.Ru :: Gadgets and technologies

The iFixit team received their copy of the new iPhone 6s smartphone and immediately began disassembling it. Note that the previous iPhone 6 was distinguished by fairly good maintainability in comparison with most Apple equipment and earned 7 points out of 10 in terms of maintainability. Now repair specialists have to find out whether the new product lags behind its predecessor in maintainability or not. Moreover, if you consider that the new product contains some changes compared to the iPhone 6 model. They mainly affected the modules used, but there are also minimal design changes. To begin with, we decided to look at what was inside without opening the device, using x-rays.

After removing the lower screws, a special tool with suction cups was required: strips of glue were laid around the perimeter of the case. One of the differences from the previous model is the Force Touch technology, which means there is a Taptic Engine drive. In this case, it is located under the battery. Perhaps this was one of the reasons for its decrease.

After disconnecting a number of connectors, the display unit was removed, which became a little heavier

Next, the speaker and front camera were removed, after which access to the shielding plate was opened

After this, the 1715 mAh battery is removed (previously it was 1800 mAh), the main camera module and antenna. After this, access to the board is opened: red: Apple A9 APL0898 with built-in 2 GB Samsung LPDDR4 RAM orange: Qualcomm MDM9635M LTE modem yellow: gyroscope and InvenSense MP67B green accelerometer: another Bosch Sensortec 3P7 LA accelerometer

In terms of maintainability, the smartphone remained at the level of the previous model: 7 out of 10. They note simple initial disassembly and easy removal of the display module, which is done first and simplifies its replacement. There were no problems replacing the battery either. Among the difficulties are the need for specific tools to unscrew proprietary screws and the somewhat difficult removal of Touch ID.

Thus, in order to replace any failed components, with the help of several tools, only some of which are specialized, you can disassemble the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in just a few minutes, even at home. However, it is better to use the services of qualified specialists who will definitely not cause any harm to the device components.

We disassemble iPhone 5

  • First of all, unscrew the back cover of the device and remove the screen.
  • To do this, you need to unscrew a couple of small screws on different sides of the device’s charging connector. Finding them is not at all difficult.
  • Next, using a vacuum suction cup, remove the screen. The operation can also be performed using a small plastic spatula or mediator. In this case, you need to hook the screen from below and then lift it. When performing this action, you need to be as careful as possible so as not to split or scratch the display.
  • The iPhone 5 also often has a problem with easily erasable paint. When disassembling your phone, you need to remember this at every stage of work.
  • After lifting the display, disconnect it from the main circuit block - the motherboard. Please note that the units of the device are quite tightly connected.
  • After unscrewing the last bolt on the board, carefully lift the screen cable. Here again you will need a pick or a plastic spatula. The screen can now be completely removed.
  • Removing the battery
  • Do not skip this disassembly step under any circumstances, because further actions with the battery connected may result in electric shocks. This is not only dangerous for you, but also causes defects in other components of the phone.
  • First of all, you need to unscrew the three screws holding the protection on the battery cable.
  • To remove the battery, use the same plastic spatula. The battery may not give in to you the first time, but there is no need to worry about this. Gently pry it from different sides until the glue holding the battery comes off.
  • We take out and disassemble the Iphone 5 motherboard
  • After removing the battery, unscrew the bolts that hold the camera. There are two of them. After this, we sequentially disconnect the microphone, speaker and headphone connectors. This is followed by the screws on which the antenna cable and SIM card slot are attached.
  • When you unscrew these 5 screws and disconnect the cables, slowly remove the motherboard.
  • At this stage of disassembling the device, the iPhone 5 case can be put aside, because further manipulations occur directly with the motherboard. Remove the camera by unscrewing two screws. This unit does not have any additional fastening elements and will then be freely detached.
  • Let's move on to the vibration motor attached with three screws. Then, to remove the lower cable of the motherboard. To completely remove the bottom cable on the motherboard, which holds the Lightning port, headset jack, speaker, Wi-Fi antenna and one of the microphones, you need to unscrew seven more screws: two at the bottom next to the headphone jack, one in the right part of the cable and four more that directly hold the entire component.
  • Removing the CPU
  • To separate the iPhone 5 processor, you will first need to remove the protective film from it.
  • Remove the parts from the front panel.
  • When you have separated the remaining elements from the back of the device, you can move on to the front.
  • The “home” button is held in place by glue; the button must be carefully pryed off with a spatula and removed
  • One of the last elements to be removed is the metal plate that protects the screen from touching other hardware parts of the device. Once the last part is removed, the iPhone 5 disassembly can be considered complete.
