Honor Band 4 review. Everything you need to know about the Huawei fitness bracelet

When you first encounter the Honor Band 4, setting up notifications and other features can take a long time. Not everyone knows what needs to be done and in what order. Therefore, there are special articles telling how to configure Huawei Honor Band 4 so that it works in accordance with the stated characteristics. How to set up the Honor Band 4 fitness bracelet can be found in the instructions. But it is in Russian only when purchased through official stores. And many today place orders through special platforms like AliExpress.

Huawei Honor Band 4 setup

First you need to turn on the clock. To do this, you need to press the touch button and hold it for a few seconds. It’s worth noting right away that shutting down or rebooting is done through the menu.

Next, the user has a question when working with Honor Band 4, how to set up the Russian language. Chinese is enabled by default. Since few people know it, you have to act on instinct, clicking on various functions. With this approach, it is possible to make many wrong actions.

In Honor Band 4, setting up the Russian language is easy: you need to download the official Huawei Health application to your smartphone and synchronize with it. Then the smart watch will automatically switch to the phone language. It is recommended to immediately customize the gadget for yourself, indicating the required brightness level. If you configure the Honor Band 4, it reduces the intensity at night. There is information below on how to set up Honor Band 4.

Important . Users often have a question about how to attach the strap to the case. For this, special plastic jumpers are used, which has become much more convenient than in the previous version. Cogs were used there. It's easy to customize the strap thanks to the large number of holes.

Design and ergonomics

The design of Band 4 Pro is a complete copy of the previous version of the bracelet. It is strange that the more budget Huawei Band 4 received a completely redesigned appearance, while the Pro line remained deprived.

Despite this, the design of the device cannot be called outdated or cheap. It is clear that the manufacturer tried to give the bracelet an elegant style that would allow it to be worn with any type of clothing.

The use of a flat capsule that smoothly turns into a strap makes the bracelet more solid, similar to a smart watch.

If you think that with Band 4 Pro it is impossible to stand out from the gray mass, then you are mistaken. Especially for these purposes, in addition to the all-black version of the bracelet, the manufacturer offers red and light pink design options. The light pink strap with a golden display edging looks especially interesting.

Huawei Band 4 Pro is perfectly balanced in its dimensions. It doesn't look too tiny like bracelets from Xiaomi, but it's also not overly bulky like some trackers from Chinese manufacturers.

The weight of the bracelet is only 25 grams, and the width of its capsule is 19 millimeters. It is convenient to sleep and play sports with the tracker; it does not cling to clothes, and you can take it with you to the shower. In other words, Huawei Band 4 Pro will not cause you any discomfort, but will only add style.

The strap is made of high-quality silicone, and the capsule is made of plastic and metal. A big role in the appearance of the Huawei Band 4 Pro is played by the metal edging of the capsule, which well dilutes the plastic-silicone materials and significantly distinguishes the bracelet from its competitors.

Separately, it is worth noting the buckle clasp on the bracelet strap, which is made like on a regular watch. This means that the bracelet will not unfasten spontaneously.

How to charge Huawei Honor Band 4

Usually, the Honor fitness tracker arrives almost empty. Therefore, the user immediately needs to put it on charge. Fast charging is supported, so you won't have to wait long to set up Honor Band 4 and start using all the possible functions.

To charge, you must use the port that comes with the device. One end must be placed in the watch itself, and the other in a laptop, computer or 220V. To charge you need:

  1. Insert the charging mechanism into the desired hole.
  2. Fasten the buckle.
  3. Wait for the battery charging icon.

Important . After charging, Honor Band 4 automatically turns on if it has been completely discharged. You will need to wait up to 3 hours.

How to install and configure the official application

This is the official application that must be downloaded to synchronize with your phone. To do this, you need to go to where the user downloads applications, enter the name of the program and download it.

You will have to read the program's terms of use and privacy information. After that you can accept them. It is recommended that you grant permission to geolocation and call access in order to use all features.

To synchronize with a smartphone you need:

  • add a device through the top corner of the screen;
  • choose a smart bracelet and its model;
  • Click on the “pair” button, and then on “done”.

After this, the watch will automatically change the language and also allow you to use all possible functions.

Display

The display characteristics of the 4 Pro did not surprise anyone. Here we have the usual 0.95 inches with a resolution of 120 by 240 pixels. The pixel density is 282 units per inch, which is equivalent to high-definition displays. The screen is developed using AMOLED technology.

There are no questions about the image quality, the picture is clear, the pixels are indistinguishable. The screen brightness is enough to use the bracelet in sunny weather.

The main complaint against Huawei is the size of the display itself. I would like to get out of the 0.95-inch limit and try to implement a screen with a larger diagonal, especially since the design of the fitness bracelet itself allows this.

The protective coating of the display is made of oleophobic glass, which improves the sensation of tactile contact and significantly reduces the number of scratches.

Setting up the Honor Band 4 fitness bracelet

After downloading the Huawei app and syncing, you need to continue setting up. Initially, you will need to create a profile.

To configure the profile, use the “Main”, “Exercises”, “Me” tabs. It's better to start with the last one. It requires you to indicate personal data in accordance with the wording. This will allow Honor Band 4 to work more accurately, since, for example, calories are calculated using a formula that uses age. And this applies not only to this function. Here you can set a goal from the ones proposed.

In the other two points, you also need to read possible changes, taking into account your own preferences. You can configure the metric measurement system and notifications in Honor Band 4 so that you don’t have to be distracted by your smartphone during training.

In Honor Band 4, weather adjustment occurs automatically, taking into account the user's location. However, to be able to receive up-to-date information, you will have to synchronize with your phone.

Important . The NFC function does not work in Russia. It is only useful in China, so it cannot be configured.

How to pair with other phones

To connect your device to your phone, use the following tips and recommendations. If you follow it correctly, then everything will certainly work out. Let's look at how to link to Samsung, iPhone, Xiaomi.

Samsung

Smart watches operate in conjunction with iOS, the version must be no earlier than 9.0. After activation, you need to configure the software. The application has a clear and accessible interface that displays all the necessary information about proper sleep, training, number of steps, etc.

Iphone

Connecting the device to the phone will not be particularly difficult:

  1. Turn on your smartwatch device
  2. Open the application on your phone that you installed.
  3. Click the “Configure” button
  4. Touch the screen and select the name of the watch.
  5. Codes are displayed on both devices, if they match, then we connect.
  6. Then follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Xiaomi

To get started, download the Mi Fit app. The application is free and easy to use. Then connect Bluetooth. Go to the application, register using your email. Then follow the step-by-step instructions.

Setting up workouts

You can set up workouts in the “Exercises” tab. Here it’s easy to set up a training plan yourself and control the process of their implementation. True, all the graphs and detailed information are not displayed on the small watch display. All data can only be seen using the official application and smartphone.

Setting up workouts is not difficult. Honor Band 4 can independently determine the type of physical activity. The tracker is configured by specifying the type of activity, the number of calories burned and other parameters. It is recommended to specify intermediate parameters as well. If you specify a walk of 10 km, then a message will be sent every kilometer. This will encourage the user to stay on track.

In the settings you can specify:

  • distance traveled;
  • number of calories burned;
  • training time;
  • Heart rate and pulse, etc.

The first value is shown by default, the user configures all the others, taking into account what is more important to him. There are several training modes: walking, running, swimming, exercise bike, etc. If the system does not detect it on its own, you can install everything manually. The tracker operates at shallow depths and has an IP68 housing protection level.

Accuracy of work

GPS

To test the accuracy of the built-in GPS, I walked a distance of 3 kilometers without a smartphone. The result turned out to be completely reliable.

For example, here is the data that Xiaomi Mi Band 4 calculated for the same distance (it also went without a smartphone):

It can be seen that both bracelets count steps accurately, but the Huawei Band 4 Pro determines the distance more reliably due to the built-in GPS.

I note that I carried out measurements more than once, in all cases the GPS module worked without errors.

Pedometer

Conducted a standard test for the accuracy of determining steps:

  • Walked 100 steps, bracelet counted 104
  • Walked 200 steps, bracelet counted 206
  • Walked 500 steps, bracelet counted 504

It turns out that the average error of the pedometer was less than 3%. But keep in mind that these measurements were taken during purposeful walking and not during everyday activities.

When washing dishes, actively gesticulating, working at a computer, doing pull-ups and push-ups, the pedometer does not work. But squats and jumping in place increase the step counter. There were also no false alarms observed while driving.

Heart rate monitor

The bracelet does not detect a pulse in inanimate objects or air. A message appears indicating that measurements cannot be taken. But there are exceptions here too. For example, on some reflective surfaces the Band 4 Pro was still able to determine heart rate.

Resting heart rate measurements tend to be fairly accurate with most bands. But we still decided to confirm this based on repeated testing.

Here is a table of measurements that were taken at different times of the day for 7 days at rest:

BraceletTonometer
76 beats/min79 beats/min
75 beats/min75 beats/min
74 beats/min77 beats/min
68 beats/min71 beats/min
84 beats/min84 beats/min
82 beats/min83 beats/min
75 beats/min73 beats/min
77 beats/min78 beats/min
79 beats/min76 beats/min
74 beats/min78 beats/min
75 beats/min82 beats/min
76 beats/min79 beats/min
76 beats/min78 beats/min
86 beats/min87 beats/min
77 beats/min76 beats/min

*average error was 2.3 beats/min (approximately 3%). The maximum discrepancy with the tonometer was 7 beats/min (9%)

Now we’ll find out how well the bracelet measures increased heart rate. To do this, I will do several sets of push-ups/squats/pull-ups, and then simultaneously measure my heart rate with a tonometer and a fitness bracelet.

Table of single measurements of elevated heart rate:

BraceletTonometer
91 beats/min96 beats/min
98 beats/min127 beats/min
114 beats/min118 beats/min
123 beats/min122 beats/min
88 beats/min92 beats/min
115 beats/min124 beats/min
126 beats/min125 beats/min
107 beats/min109 beats/min
130 beats/min132 beats/min
123 beats/min124 beats/min
115 beats/min118 beats/min
128 beats/min131 beats/min

*average error was 5.3 beats/min (approximately 4.5%). The maximum discrepancy with the tonometer was 29 beats/min (24%)

When constantly measuring heart rate, for example, during exercise, the indicators are almost the same as the tonometer. But with a single measurement of increased heart rate, glitches periodically occur, when during the measurement process the pulse is shown accurately, and the final result, which is displayed on the screen, is fundamentally different from the tonometer readings. This can be clearly seen in the table above.

Table comparing heart rate readings on the bracelet with tonometer readings during free training:

BraceletTonometer
99 beats/min100 beats/min
130 beats/min131 beats/min
138 beats/min138 beats/min
135 beats/min133 beats/min
136 beats/min138 beats/min
141 beats/min145 beats/min
136 beats/min139 beats/min
129 beats/min128 beats/min

*The average error was 1.7 beats/min (approximately 1.3%). The maximum discrepancy with the tonometer was 4 beats/min (3%)

Additional settings of the fitness bracelet

There are several other useful features that many people use, namely:

  1. Huawei TruSleep . This is where sleep analysis takes place. If there are any problems, it will be visible on the diagram. That is, it will be necessary to take some measures to correct the situation. Notifications can be received daily, once a week, monthly, or at other intervals.
  2. Smart alarm clock . It tracks sleep phases and wakes you up at the most opportune moments. This is the REM sleep phase. If you need to get up at 8 am, and the optimal phase occurs at 7:30, then the alarm clock will ring earlier. This will allow you to feel energized and not feel tired during the day.
  3. Weather notifications. If you indicate the need to receive them, the information will begin to arrive automatically.
  4. Notification when Bluetooth is turned on is configured in the menu.
  5. A reminder about the need for physical activity comes if you activate this function. Then, if the user does not sleep and remains in one place for a long time, a corresponding message is received.
  6. Pulse monitoring allows you to understand whether the user has pathologies in the functioning of the heart rhythm. It also makes it easy to assess the intensity of your workouts and understand how much easier or harder they need to be. The pulse is measured automatically either continuously or at certain intervals. Data is not saved in the device, but can be viewed through the application. If you measure it continuously, the charge runs out a couple of days earlier. But the user receives a notification about an increased heart rate.

You can also activate the bracelet automatically when you turn to switch or when you lift your wrist. If you don't need notifications, you can turn them off.

Fitness tracker management

You can control the device using short touches and sliding movements across the screen. There is also a touch button with which you can enter the menu and confirm your choice. It is also used to activate the bracelet if this does not happen automatically in accordance with the selected settings.

You can click on it to select the desired function. To go back, you need to turn your finger to the right. Move up and down to select the desired option.

You will need to update the software periodically. To do this, go to the “Software Update” menu item. The current version is visible there and it is possible to check for updates for Honor Band 4. Using the most modern version will allow you to put into practice all the possible functions of the fitness bracelet. If the user gets confused with the settings, he can reset them to factory settings and start all over again.

Most of the functions in the bracelet are intuitive. There is no need to spend a long time understanding the features of using Honor Band 4. However, sometimes you have to face questions. That is why this article may be useful to many.
