Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra tablets

Samsung held an online presentation at which it presented the Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra tablets.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra features a 14.6-inch OLED screen. The new product also received a cutout for the front cameras.

The Galaxy Tab S8+ has a 12.4-inch OLED display, while the Galaxy Tab S8 has an 11-inch LCD screen.

All displays support a 120Hz refresh rate.

The new tablets are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+ also received 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra can have up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal memory. All models support a microSD card slot.

The tablets support 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

The main cameras in all models are the same: 13 MP wide-angle and 6 MP ultra-wide-angle.

The Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+ have a 12 MP wide-angle front camera. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra also has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

The new products run Android 12 with One UI 4.1 shell. Samsung will release system updates for four years.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 release date

Manufacturers have not yet answered the question of when the new tablet will be released. One can only speculate. The previous models of the Galaxy Tab S6 and S7 line appeared on the market almost simultaneously - at the end of summer 2022, although one of them was announced in July, and the second only in early August.

Not long ago, the future Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 appeared on the official website in Ireland, its page appeared in the technical support section. This may mean that the model has already been certified and is being prepared for release. Fans can expect the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 to officially launch in mid-summer and go on sale by August 2022.

Equipment

The new tablet will receive support for S-pen. A stylus will be included in the package.

You can also expect Samsung not to follow Apple's tendency to exclude the power adapter from the starter kit. So the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 box will still contain a communication cable, a charger and a paper clip for removing the card tray.

Attention!

The keyboard will most likely not be included in the package, and in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, it will have to be purchased additionally. There are rumors that it will now be equipped with backlighting.

Galaxy Tab S8 supports S Pen

As befits top-end Android tablets , all three Galaxy Tab S8 will support the S Pen . In principle, this is a useful thing, but not for everyone. For example, for me it’s just an optional accessory that I wouldn’t buy for anything. So it would be more logical to just start selling styluses separately from the tablet.

I think this would save at least $50, or even more. After all, this is not an ordinary wand, but a smart pen with pressure recognition and other gadgets. So, Samsung, take a cue from Apple.

In addition to the stylus, the tablet has another accessory, although now it’s paid. This is an external keyboard stand like the one that Apple offers to purchase for the iPad Pro - Magic Keyboard. It is designed to emphasize the orientation of the Galaxy Tab S8 towards the professional segment.

Sleep and sweat monitoring: big update for Galaxy Watch 4

But visual resemblance to a computer is not everything. Even Samsung's own improvements to Android, which seem to expand the capabilities of the OS, can't help. In fact, using such a setup for work is inconvenient for two reasons:

  • Firstly, Android, unlike the iPad, is extremely limited from a functional and software point of view, since it does not have many features characteristic of iPadOS that make it more or less close to a computer;
  • Secondly, this combination can only be used at the table, which, in principle, narrows the number of scenarios for using the setup. After all, many of us have to open a laptop from time to time and work with it on our laps. It just won't work here.

Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra

The design of the Galaxy S22 and S22+ has not undergone major changes compared to the previous generation Galaxy S21 and S21+. Galaxy S22 Ultra, on the contrary, is radically different from its predecessor S21 Ultra - now the top smartphone in the line looks like the rectangular Galaxy Note20 Ultra. In addition to its appearance, the S22 Ultra inherits the S Pen stylus from the Note line, which is located in the smartphone body.

Galaxy S22 and S22+ received Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with adaptive image refresh rates from 10 to 120 Hz and symmetrical frames. The screen diagonal of the base S22 is 6.1 inches, the S22+ is 6.6 inches, both with a resolution of 2340x1080 pixels. The S22 Ultra has a 6.8-inch display with a resolution of 3088 x 1440 pixels and an adaptive image refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz.

The devices will come with Exynos 2200 chips with AMD RDNA 2 graphics for the Asian and European markets or Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with Adreno 730 graphics for the US. For S22 and S22+, 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of permanent memory are available, and for S22 Ultra - 8, 12, 16 GB of RAM and 128, 256, 512 GB or 1 TB of internal memory.

The Galaxy S22+ (4500 mAh) and S22 Ultra (5000 mAh) batteries support fast wired charging at 45 W, and the Galaxy S22 (3700 mAh) supports 25 W fast charging. The wireless charging power in the new products is the same - 15 W.

Screen

There is no doubt that the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 will have an OLED display. This is the expected solution for a premium tablet. And although the basic version of the Galaxy Tab S7 uses an LED matrix, there is a possibility that the new product will be equipped with an AMOLED display even in the simplest 8/128 GB modification.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 will have an 11" diagonal screen. In the advanced version of the Galaxy Tab S8+, it will be larger - 12.4". Thanks to the frequency of 120 Hz, scrolling menus and character movement in games is as smooth as possible.

Attention!

There is a possibility that the new product will support an adaptive mode, which allows you to reduce the frequency, which will allow you to save charge consumption by 10-15%.

The display will have HDR+ resolution (1752x2800) with an absolute pixel density of 266 ppi. Adaptive brightness adjustment and a blue light filter are expected.

Operating system and software

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 will receive Android 11 OS out of the box. Moreover, if rumors about an imminent update of the operating system are confirmed, it is possible that the new product will be released with the current version.

It is also likely that a business tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Enterprise Edition, will be released for employees of large companies with large staff. Following the example of the Galaxy S10, S10e and Note 10 smartphones, which were released in this version, the new tablet will feature the Knox Configure application, which allows remote access and administration of devices.

In addition, Enterprise Edition devices have a special program for automatic software updates and increased privacy protection. Gadgets in this series receive regularly updated security patches.

Performance

In the version for the United States, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 will receive the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, running on 5 nm technology. Its architecture includes 1 high-speed Cortex-X1 core with a frequency of 2.84 GHz, as well as 3 Cortex-A78 (2.4 GHz) and 4 Cortex-A55 (1.8 GHz).

The quality of graphics is provided by the Adreno 660 controller. In terms of performance, it is almost 35% faster than its predecessor Adreno 650. In games, it supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ standards.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 will support 5G networks and will be equipped with a high-speed Snapdragon X60 modem.

The new product will be released with different parameters of RAM and built-in storage. In the basic version it will be 8/128 GB, more advanced ones will receive 8/256 GB and 12/512 GB. The advanced model Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ will receive the same parameters.

Performance and battery

The battery capacity of the Tab S8 is 8,000 mAh and 10,090 mAh for the Tab S8 Plus, which should be enough to support a tablet of this size, even taking into account the performance requirements of their screens. Likewise, the 4nm octa-core processor should be able to handle the resource-intensive apps you run on your tablet quite efficiently.

But in the case of these key characteristics, we simply didn't have enough time to give you a full verdict. Be sure to return to this page for our full review after the tablet has undergone our vigorous testing and real-world testing.

Autonomous operation

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 tablet is equipped with a lithium-ion battery of 8000 mAh in the basic version and 10,000 mAh in the Galaxy Tab S8+ version.

The battery will receive support for fast charging with a power of 45 W. True, most likely, as in the case of the Galaxy Tab S7, you will have to buy an additional power adapter. Only a 15W charger is included in the package.

Cameras

On the back of the Tab S8 and Tab S8+ you'll find a dual-sensor camera consisting of a 13-megapixel main camera sensor and a 6-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, giving you a few different options for those rare occasions when you want to shoot or record using your tablet , not a smartphone.

There's a 12-megapixel camera on the front for when you want to take selfies or, more likely, use it for a video call.

While the rear camera should be as good as any other you'll find on a Samsung tablet, the front setup only has one lens compared to the two the Tab S8 Ultra boasts, the difference being that the Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus do not have an aggressive screen notch.
