Review of the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone and its characteristics
We were all expecting the release of the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone, and now its review is already on our website, but has the gadget changed that much and is it worth switching to it if you have a Galaxy S8 or Note 8? The first thing that attracts attention is the innovative camera - the first on the mobile market with the ability to adjust the aperture ratio. Thanks to this feature, the smartphone takes good pictures both day and night, selecting the optimal parameters depending on the shooting conditions. Performance has also increased, for which the manufacturer used its new processor. In general, a lot of changes have been made, but they are not so significant compared to last year’s flagship. Let's review the Samsung Galaxy S9 and see how the main flagship of 2022 turns out.

Introduction
Samsung smartphones do not appear on the pages of the laboratory as often as we would like, but we try not to miss flagships. Last time it was the Samsung Galaxy S8+ in an unusual configuration, and it turned out to be quite nice.
The new products shown at Galaxy Unpacked 2022 had been looming on the horizon for a long time, but no one could imagine what the manufacturer would invent this time. As it turned out, the ninth generation of the Galaxy turned out to be more of a facelift than a completely new model. Buyers became so confused that the manufacturer even had to explain what exactly had been improved compared to its predecessors.
The main focus of the presentation was on the camera, and even before the live broadcast, users began to express their conjectures that since we are talking about the camera, they will probably insert two photo modules, like some competitors.
But, alas, only the Samsung Galaxy S9+ got two photo modules, while the compact model is content with one. What then are the differences from its predecessor? Let's try to figure it out.

*Modified architecture based on ARM technologies.
**“Gray” deliveries / official retail. As you can see, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is more of a logical continuation than something radically new. The dimensions and weight remained the same, although it is not clear why the new product became heavier, thicker and wider. We can assume that this is due to the thicker metal, but we cannot be sure.
The battery capacity remained the same, but “under the hood” a logical successor to the Exynos series of single-chip systems appeared. We have just such a version on test, and it is even more interesting, since in some benchmarks it shows a significant gap from its brother. We'll check it out a little later.
Among the obvious shortcomings, it is worth noting the small amount of RAM - 4 GB. Already last year, manufacturers began offering models with up to 8 GB. It's strange why the 6 GB version is only available for the Samsung Galaxy S9+.
Packaging and equipment Samsung Galaxy S9
The smartphone comes in a simple small box.
The key features of the model are listed on the reverse side.
The box design is very similar to those that Samsung has used in its other flagships.
The scope of delivery is pleasing to the eye:
- Charger;
- USB -> USB Type-C adapter;
- Adapter MicroUSB -> USB Type C;
- Stereo headset with replaceable ear pads;
- Cable;
- Documentation.
It's nice to see a stereo headset included in the package; this doesn't happen very often lately.
Samsung claims that it was tuned by specialists from AKG. It sounds very good for a complete accessory, and it fits comfortably.
The vertical charger supports the Adaptive Fast Charging system.
Supports charging current up to 2 A/1.67 A at 5 V or 9 V.
Appearance and design of Samsung Galaxy S9
The smartphone looks very similar to its predecessor. When the screen is turned off, the display almost completely blends with the tone of the body. True, this is only true for the black version.
In addition to it, you can find “titanium” and “ultraviolet” colors on the market. There is also “coral blue”, but for now this version is only available with Snapdragon 845.
The main drawback of its predecessor, the inconvenient location of the fingerprint scanner, has been corrected. Now it is located just below the camera, and it is this detail that distinguishes the two smartphones to a greater extent. The device body is made of metal with a glass back cover.
Thank the gods, there is no “bangs” a la the Apple iPhone X here. On the left you can see a retinal scanner, IR illumination, and an additional camera. To the right of the speaker grille is the usual front camera and proximity/light sensor.
A multi-color LED event indicator is located on the left. It has wide viewing angles and comfortable brightness.
From below we see, it’s hard to believe, a 3.5 mm headphone jack (!), +1 in the manufacturer’s karma definitely provides this. For charging, USB Type-C with a USB 3.1 logical interface is used. A little to the right is a microphone and speaker.
Alas, only the Samsung Galaxy S9+ has a dual rear camera, while the compact flagship only has a single one. But it is also equipped with aperture and stabilization (OIS + EIS). On the right you can see a modest flash and a traditional heart rate sensor.
To prevent users from contaminating the camera while looking for a fingerprint scanner this time, the manufacturer used a raised frame. It not only copes well with its direct task, but also covers the protective glass well from scratches.
The build quality is not satisfactory. The device is well assembled, does not crunch and, judging by tests on the Internet, is quite strong. Like last year’s flagships, it offers protection against moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard.
The dedicated Bixby key remains in place and can be reassigned. The buttons themselves are metal. The pressure is clear and uniform, but there is a slight backlash.
A dual-SIM version with Exynos 9810 is intended for the CIS market. As you can understand, a combined slot is used.
The screen occupies approximately 84% of the front surface of the device. This is the same indicator as before, that is, if the frames around the screen have changed, it is only slightly. The smartphone looks modern and attractive.
Samsung Galaxy S9 display test
Samsung Galaxy S9 received a SuperAMOLED matrix with a diagonal of 5.8″. Due to the elongated 18.5:9 format, the model feels in the hands like classic smartphones with a ~5.2″ diagonal, so I wouldn’t call this gadget a “shovel”. The WQHD+ resolution is used, but in the settings you can set the operating mode in HD+ (1480 x 720) and Full HD+ (2220 x 1080) resolutions.
Viewing angles are very wide, although the drop in brightness is visible to the naked eye.
At diagonal angles, the color palette becomes “cooler”, but excellent contrast is maintained.
The gray gradient is strongly colored with blue-green shades.
The uniformity of the glow does not raise any questions.
Clipping of dark tones is in place: tones up to RGB: 3;3;3; remain indistinguishable.
The sensor supports up to ten clicks simultaneously.
Now let's test the display using the X-Rite ColorMunki Display calibrator. How to interpret this data is described in this video and in this article using monitors as an example.
As usual, let's start with the contrast table.
Brightness level, % | White brightness, cd/m 2 | Black brightness, cd/m 2 | Contrast, x:1 |
Maximum brightness | 513 | 0 | ∞ |
100 | 291 | 0 | ∞ |
75 | 225 | 0 | ∞ |
50 | 144 | 0 | ∞ |
25 | 16 | 0 | ∞ |
0 | 2 | 0 | ∞ |
But here I was puzzled. Predecessors, when automatically adjusting the screen brightness, could briefly demonstrate a very bright glow, up to 720 nits, and some publications managed to measure 900 nits and higher.
However, no matter how I tried to squeeze maximum brightness out of the Samsung Galaxy S9, I couldn’t get a value above 513 nits. I changed color rendering profiles, power saving mode, even cooled the screen, but no. Perhaps this is a feature of the instance; I don’t have statistics on new devices.
The gamma is generally tuned well.
The color temperature is quite a bit too high.
Color channels are finely tuned.
The color gamut in the adaptive mode clearly exceeds the sRGB standard.
However, you can use the sRGB profile if you wish. True, for some reason the manufacturer stubbornly refuses to adapt the richness of the interface to it, and some elements seem faded.
The points of the gray wedge are located very close to the boundaries of DeltaE<10.
As you might guess, there are screen profiles and quite extensive settings.
Hardware platform and performance of Samsung Galaxy S9
Samsung Galaxy S9 comes in two versions: with SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and Samsung Exynos 9810. The first version is intended for the US and Chinese markets, for the rest there is a version with its own single-chip system.
We are reviewing just the version with SoC Exynos on board.
On a “fresh” device without installed applications, the user has access to just under 500 MB of RAM, or 1.5 GB if cached data is not taken into account.
By the way, at different resolutions the benchmark results do not differ much.
Operation stability
Gaming Performance
The device performs well in games. There are some nuances, like the sensor is not the best, but this is one of the best smartphones for gaming today. Some users complain about problems with resolution in games, saying that sometimes the picture is obtained at 720p and cannot be corrected by any means, but I cannot confirm these statements.
Software and firmware Samsung Galaxy S9
Samsung Galaxy S9 runs on Android 8.0 coupled with the Samsung Experience shell. It is well known to us since the days of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
This is one of the slowest shells on the market, but it is the one that is ready to offer a lot of settings and additional functions, which explains its clumsiness.
Among the disadvantages, it is worth noting some pre-installed programs that cannot be removed.
You can only turn them off.
There is also a utility for optimizing performance. It is needed here - there really is often not enough RAM, which the program itself constantly warns about.
GameLauncher also remains - a utility for those who like to play on a smartphone. True, I don’t quite understand why she needs access to contacts, but so be it.
Sometimes the smartphone did not work correctly with some programs, which was determined by its desire to limit the power consumption of long-running applications as much as possible. If so, it would be worthwhile to switch the scheduler operating modes directly to the curtain; it would be a funny analogue of the Turbo button on old PCs.
It is also worth noting separately that the manufacturer has closed the ability to record conversations, which may be critical for some users.
Among the screen unlocking methods, the fingerprint sensor remains the fastest and most reliable. In second place is the iris scanner, and in last place is face unlock, which is more of a hindrance than a help.
Multimedia Samsung Galaxy S9
Video
We will start by testing the “omnivorous” formats.
The result is high.
Sound
Let's check the quality of the audio path at the output of the 3.5 mm jack using the RightMark Audio Analyzer test and the ASUS Xonar DX audio card.
Parameter | Result | Grade | Schedule |
Frequency response unevenness (in the range 40 Hz - 15 kHz), dB | +0.01, -0.04 | Great
Noise level, dB (A) | -87 | Fine
Dynamic range, dB (A) | 87.4 | Fine
Harmonic distortion, % | 0.0036 | Very good
Harmonic distortion + noise, dB(A) | -78.7 | Average
Intermodulation distortion + noise, % | 0.013 | Very good
Interpenetration of channels, dB | -70.5 | Fine
Intermodulation at 10 kHz, % | 0.013 | Very good
Overall rating | Fine |
The smartphone is capable of producing a signal of sufficiently high quality and power. This may not be an audiophile's choice, but 99% of users will be completely satisfied with this quality.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is equipped with stereo speakers, but they differ from each other in quality and focus. Thus, the one that is hidden behind the speaker grille is directed towards the user, but provides average sound quality with an abundance of midrange frequencies. The ringer has increased volume and has impressive sound quality, but is directed to the side. This arrangement is not ideal, but it is still better than any mono speaker.
The strength of the vibration alert is average.
Wireless interfaces and communications Samsung Galaxy S9
Samsung Galaxy S9 is capable of working in Wi-Fi networks using b/g/n/ac protocols. Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands are supported.
The speed on the test equipment was 34/47 Mbit/s out of 70/70 Mbit/s maximum possible.
The speed of file transfer via the SMB protocol over Wi-Fi is high.
GPS works flawlessly.
File system of Samsung Galaxy S9
The base model of the Samsung Galaxy S9 will come with 64GB of onboard storage. At the moment, there are no other options available in official retail.
Almost 60 GB is available to the user on a “clean” device.
The speed of the flash drive deserves all praise. It's the same story with the speed of RAM.
Connection to a PC is supported via the following protocols: MIDI, MTP and PTP. Charging an external device is also supported. The data transfer speed to the smartphone is 20-45 MB/s, the data transfer speed from the device is ~50-60 MB/s.
Samsung Galaxy S9 battery life
The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery.
The level of autonomy may vary depending on the power plan and operating mode, but in general the autonomy remains at the level of its predecessors.
In a real situation the picture looks like this:
Scenario | Working hours |
Web surfing | ~9.5 hours |
Music player with screen off | ~more than 40 hours |
Watching 720p video | ~11 hours |
Maximum load mode | ~3.5 hours |
As a result, we get a standard daylight autonomy. A banal level that has persisted for several years. Fortunately, with the use of more flexible energy saving schemes, you can greatly extend the battery life during idle time.
The energy saving modes and menus themselves have not changed.
Camera Samsung Galaxy S9
Interface, features and settings
The camera interface of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is very sophisticated, but intuitive.
The only inconvenience, perhaps, is scrolling through the modes. For some reason they always want to switch, even when scrolling through the entire palette at the top of the screen. In my opinion, it would be more convenient to make a sliding menu with a swipe from the right side, but here the reader has the right to disagree with me.
At the presentation, a huge amount of time was devoted to AR emoji. I would even say that it is an undeservedly long time that would be worth spending on describing the SoC or the design inside the smartphone. This functionality is good for fooling around for half an hour, but describing all the “delights” of a new type of emoticons, in my opinion, is overkill. But the store built into the camera app is a little scary.
Samsung Galaxy S9 camera test
Image quality
Attention:
individual screenshots in an enlarged version are images of the original size, so they can be quite “heavy” (up to 2-3 MB on average). The size and resolution of both versions of the image, as always, are specified in the TITLE block of the IMG tag; browsers usually show them in a tooltip.
It’s no longer a secret to anyone what lies behind the slogan “Camera. Created anew” was the appearance of the aperture on the rear photo module. You can see how it works here:
In fact, it is a curtain that reduces the relative aperture size from f/1.5 to f/2.4. Only two values are available, there are no gaps between them.
Let's see how this works in practice.
Under ideal conditions the quality is very high, which is not surprising.
The exposure meter works great. In all sunny scenes, the automatic system automatically chooses to close the aperture to f/2.4.
In low light, detail drops, but it is still sufficient for any social media format.
Now let's move on to consider scenarios with variable aperture to understand how it affects the frame.
The greatest difference is visible in macro mode, where the depth of field changes noticeably.
If you look closely, the shape of the bokeh also changes; however, quite insignificantly.
But here is the difference between f/2.4 and f/1.5 at the same shutter speed (1/15 sec) and sensitivity (800 ISO).
It seems that the thick protective glass slightly worsens the contrast due to flare when shooting against a light source. However, the highlights in the frame are quite modest.
The smartphone copes with shooting text without any difficulties.
The front camera takes good pictures, the main thing is not to aim against the light - this leads to light and glare.
Video recording examples:
The video quality is at a very high level.
Unlike Sony flagships, the slow-motion video mode is implemented more conveniently here, since the smartphone itself detects movement in part of the frame and reacts. However, the video quality is still a compromise, and the segment of slow-motion footage is too short.
Comparison with competitors Samsung Galaxy S9
Not many new smartphones have acquired new generation processors, so the Samsung Galaxy S9 doesn’t have many competitors. Let's look at the most obvious ones.

After a global redesign, the Xperia model is already difficult to associate with other Sony flagships. Fans greeted the rethinking of the line coolly and were sensitive to the new location of the fingerprint scanner and the plump back cover. There is no dual camera either, the thickness of the device is not determined by anything.
However, the manufacturer’s traditional conservatism worked to its advantage this time, and at the moment the Sony Xperia XZ2 is one of the most beautiful flagships among leading manufacturers. Do I need to explain why?
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S also sports no bangs, but the camera module, clearly copied from Apple, is capable of squeezing a tear from any fan of “redheads”. But in other aspects this is a very good solution.
Apple iPhone X should be blamed for all the ethical troubles. But you shouldn’t do this; you need to understand that no one forced other manufacturers to copy it.
As a fashionable, expensive accessory, this trendsetter is perfect for those who like to blend in with the crowd and show off the famous animated brown smiley face. Oh yes, the single-chip system here is still good.
And, of course, the Samsung Galaxy S8, which has fallen a little in price, remains relevant to this day. An excellent solution for those who are not ready to spend money on a new flagship, but want to get the best that the manufacturer was capable of in 2022.
Conclusion
Samsung Galaxy S9 differs from its predecessor not only in its camera. The photo quality is quite comparable to the Samsung Galaxy S8, but the innovation in the form of an aperture will find its application only in a narrow range of tasks.
The most important innovation, in my opinion, is the Exynos 9810 single-chip system, it really differs from both the Exynos 8995 and the Snapdragon 835. And this is a significant step forward, which received virtually no attention at the presentation. And the main fix for the new product can be considered a redesigned fingerprint scanner, which is now more convenient to use. It is worth mentioning the speakers, which have become louder and “richer”.
In a separate line, we will praise the manufacturer for leaving the 3.5 mm jack, the absence of a notch, and retaining a slot for memory cards.
Otherwise, the hero of the review repeats most of the technical and design solutions of his predecessor. This is understandable, because the eighth generation sold very vigorously, so the word “facelift” fits very well here.
Pros of Samsung Galaxy S9:
- Compact dimensions combined with a large screen;
- Modern attractive appearance;
- Exynos 9810 performs well in demanding games;
- Protected from moisture and dust (IP68);
- Stereo speakers;
- Supports two SIM cards and memory cards;
- High quality photos and videos;
- Advanced OS capabilities, DeX;
- Rich set of supplies.
Minuses:
- Only 4 GB of RAM;
- Only one rear camera.
May not suit:
- Slippery body;
- Adaptive Fast Charging is not so Fast: no 12 V mode;
- The fingerprint scanner is small.

How is the Samsung Galaxy S9 different from the S8?
Previously, S series phones were very different from each other. Yes, the appearance did not change much, but in terms of technical characteristics, the changes were clearly noticeable and served as a good reason to change the smartphone to a new one. In the case of the Galaxy S9, it is not so easy to find the differences, but they are there.
Let's start with the design:
- The side frame has become matte, which improves the practicality of the device. It will collect less fingerprints and dirt;
- The location of the fingerprint sensor has been changed. Now it is from below and the finger fits exactly on it, and does not touch the camera, as it was before;
- The volume rocker and the call button for the Bixby virtual assistant have moved a little higher, making them easier to use.
Galaxy S9 display
- The black color has become even deeper and now, with the Always-On function active, the frames are not noticeable at all, they merge with the black color of the display itself;
- Samsung Galaxy S9 review in Russian showed that the increased sensitivity mode has been returned. This will be appreciated by residents of cold regions, where they often have to operate the phone with gloves.
Interface
- In the Samsung Galaxy S9, you can create a copy of the application and log into it under a different account (as is implemented in MIUI);
- Landscape shell orientation is supported;
- When setting up your phone for the first time, you can discard most of the pre-installed programs, freeing up space and getting rid of unnecessary stuff;
- “Selfiemoji” appeared in the standard keyboard, as well as an original catalog of animations.
Iron
- A new processor of our own design, built using a 10-NM process technology;
- Now uses stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos technology;
- A new way to identify a user is smart scanning.
What's changed in the Galaxy S9 camera?
- For the first time on the mobile market, variable aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4) appeared;
- Slow motion mode with 960 FPS, something only Sony smartphones were famous for in the past.
With aperture F/2.4 With aperture F/1.5
These are the main changes, now let's take a full review of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and take a closer look.
Equipment Samsung Galaxy S9
Over the past few years, the manufacturer has been in no hurry to change the packaging design of its flagships. This is a black cardboard box with a strict design and without any frills. The Samsung Galaxy S9 package remains unchanged, including a paper clip, documentation in a separate envelope, a high-quality headset from AKG, a network adapter (with fast charging, of course), a USB Type-A to USB-C cable, an adapter from USB-C to microUSB, as well as an OTG adapter.

Samsung Galaxy S9 design
If you don’t delve into the details, it will be difficult to distinguish the new product from last year’s Galaxy S8. The only thing that immediately catches your eye is the location of the fingerprint scanner. It moved downwards, making it easier to use. Although at first, out of habit, you can still touch the camera lens. The dimensions of the case have changed, albeit slightly, and therefore cases from the S8 cannot be used.
The monolithic body is covered with Gorilla Glass 5 on each side, and the side frame is made of metal with a matte effect. This design still remains relevant and looks very attractive. This time, the manufacturer has revised its approach to case color options - instead of the usual golden hue, we are offered lilac and blue, as well as more classic black and silver.
The review of the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone confirms that, to the delight of fans, it retained the 3.5 mm audio jack, which many were worried about until the release of the new product. It is located below next to the main speaker, microphone and USB Type-C 3.1.
The keys are located in their usual places, nothing has changed in this regard. The right side of the case is occupied by the power button.
On the left is the volume rocker and the Bixby virtual assistant button.
Navigation keys are built into the display and their functionality can be customized in the parameters. Of course, we couldn’t do without a well-thought-out gesture control system, which increases the comfort of working with the Galaxy S9 phone.
Above the display there is an event light indicator, a conversational speaker, a front camera, an Iris sensor required for face unlocking, as well as standard light and proximity sensors.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 64gb review informs you that the case is also waterproof according to the IP68 standard, which means it will survive immersion under the surface of water without any consequences.
At the back there is a single main camera module (in the case of the Galaxy S9 Plus it is double). A bright flash is located to the right of it, and under the camera block there is a fingerprint scanner, for which the previous model was so criticized. They didn’t forget about the corporate logo, located closer to the center.
In terms of ergonomics, the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone is close to ideal, there is no reason to criticize it. With each new model, the manufacturer improved the shape of the case and brought it to the ideal. The monolithic body with rounded edges fits well in the hand, and the curved edges of the screen give the impression of framelessness. At the same time, they do not lead to accidental clicks and do not cause any inconvenience. Another important change was the fingerprint sensor, which all the fans asked to move down and it finally happened. We can say that the work on the bugs was successful. Obviously, the company has not yet succeeded in integrating it into the display. Most likely, a similar solution awaits us in the next flagship.
Review of Galaxy S9 and S9+ the most feature-rich smartphones in the world

Yandex.News Yandex.Zen Google News
Hello, dear readers of the site Uspei.com. This is the best smartphone Samsung has ever made. These are Galaxy S9 and S9+.
Are these the words you wanted to hear? But smartphones are now made by everyone, even Pepsi. But the market is driven by companies such as Apple, Samsung, Google, and to a lesser extent Xiaomi, Meizu, Huawei. It’s stupid to say that Galaxy are bad devices, devices that have been made for almost 10 years. If they were bad, then no one would buy them.
However, we already know that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will not move the market in any way, because these phones can be called an “update”, “working out bugs” or “minor”, or like an iPhone with an “S” prefix.
But there is novelty, although it is not visible during the first minute of working with the phone, plus it is the most multifunctional smartphone in the world, which is literally crammed with various mobile technologies. This is also undeniable.
Design. It is exactly the same as last year's model. Feelings, tactilely, externally - whatever you call it - you won’t notice much of a difference. But it is there, and it is hidden in the little things.
- Firstly, the metal frame has become matte rather than glossy.
- Secondly , the screen in Always-On mode is now darker and merges with the rest of the front panel, giving visual solidity. Looks better.
- Thirdly, it somehow gets too dirty. This is not to say that previous models did not collect fingerprints, but the S9 gets dirty if you just breathe next to it. But perhaps our samples simply do not have an oleophobic coating.
However, this is where the design changes end, and constructive ones remain. Kudos to that Korean engineer who moved the fingerprint scanner under the camera.
Here, of course, we can say that Samsung, unlike Apple, refines smartphones based on the wishes of its users.
But Apple, introducing Face ID, does a good job right away (therefore, a scanner is not needed), but Samsung clearly listened to users. Because how else?
That year, after the release of the S8, many were torn to pieces due to the position of the scanner. S8 is very difficult to unlock the first time , because it makes mistakes two or three times in a row, and it’s easier to enter the password.
In the S9 there is no such thing, in 8 out of 10 cases it detects the finger and works basically quickly, and the camera eye is no longer dirty, which is also a plus.
But there are still complaints - the scanner could have been made a little larger in size.
There are also advantages: the smart scanning function has been updated, now you can unlock the phone from the iris of the eye and face. It doesn’t work “super-fast”, somewhere at the level of the iPhone X, it loses to the OnePlus 5T, but like the iPhone it works in the dark. So, sorry, OnePus 5T is better.
Following. Gorilla Glass 5 was made thicker, so in theory the smartphone should become stronger. Protection against water and dust according to the IP68 is in place, this is already a classic set of the Galaxy line - up to 1 meter for half an hour and everything is ok. Again, these are Samsung's statements, not ours.
It’s very cool, by the way, that the S9 has a special notification about wet connectors - if you put your smartphone on charge after swimming, it will warn you that drying is necessary.
Pixel 2, by the way, doesn’t have this. Here is an example of why system shells are not always worse than pure Android. Although, of course, it’s worse.
The volume and Bixby buttons are a little thicker and moved higher to make it easier to reach with your hand. In principle, everything was convenient in the S8. It would be better if they gave the opportunity to reconfigure the Bixby button, because in our realities the assistant is useless. But no, live like this.
Phones have also become thicker and heavier by about 10 grams. If the device has become stronger, then so be it. But give us the same thing, but twice as much and with a 5-6 thousand mAh battery. When will this become fashionable? Okay, next.

The speaker grille has been slightly reduced, perhaps due to AKG's new Dolby Atmos stereo speakers . And this is a big step forward.
At the presentation, Samsung did not hesitate to throw around loud terms like “cinema-like experience.” The sound, of course, is not like in a cinema, but very, very good. YouTube looks great – it’s loud, and in games the sound has also noticeably brightened up. Stereo, it is stereo, what else can I say.
The S9 is one of the few flagships that still has a 3.5 mm headphone jack . The kit even included a good wired headset from the same AKG. Undoubtedly, additional choice for the user is never superfluous.
Although, in 2022 it is already worth seriously thinking about the transition to wireless headphones, of which they are now making a lot and actively. There's plenty to choose from, so take a look. The time has come. Moreover, the Bluetooth module version 5.0 is installed here, allowing you to connect several devices at the same time.
Screen. The diagonals have not changed. The S9 has a 5.8-inch display, the S9 Plus has a 6.2-inch display. For comparison, this is how both phones look next to the iPhone X.
advertising
The small Galaxy is still more comfortable to use with one hand, and is generally the perfect size for a phone. With the larger one, you need to use a second hand in almost every conceivable use case, unless, of course, you want to repair broken glass.
Display Mate experts, who previously called the iPhone X display the best OLED display, rated the Galaxy S9 screen even higher.
And he truly is one of the best in the world. Super AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2960 by 1440 pixels, very bright, very contrasty with support for HDR 10 - you can only get to the bottom of the appearance of a blue-green tint at the corners, but this is a disease of all OLEDs.
Plus DCI-P3 color space coverage - 113%, sRGB - 141%. Well, that's commendable. But frankly speaking, you won't notice any difference from the S8 at all.
This is as good a display as it was, yes, it has become a little brighter, yes, darker, yes, the white color is better, but there is one nice bonus - screen calibration in the settings. RGB sliders are always cool.
Iron. The most boring part of any smartphone review. The flagship should have all the most powerful things and it is here. The smartphone runs on a proprietary eight-core Exynos 9810 with a Mali-G72 graphics accelerator, 4GB LPDDR4 (4X) RAM in the case of the S9 and 6GB in the S9 Plus.
Built-in memory 64GB or 256GB. In some countries there will be an option with a 128 gigabyte module. If desired, everything can be expanded with microSD cards - instead of a second SIM card, of course.
And SanDisk recently introduced an Extreme UHS-I card with a capacity of 400 GB and a speed of 160 MB / s. Which is provided by technology from Western Digital, plus this MicroSD will comply with A1 specifications.
Games and applications will launch quickly, and this is the ideal microSD for this phone, but of course it is expensive - about 20 thousand rubles in our market. Let's move on.
pay for purchases using NFC (Android Pay) or MST (Samsung Pay). A magnetic field is created around the S9, by the way, this is also present in earlier models. You can work with very old terminals, where there is not even contactless payment. This is a very good advantage.
For those who monitor their health and actively use the proprietary Health application, Samsung did not forget to add a geomagnetic sensor , Hall sensor and HR sensor.
In general, the Galaxy S9 is probably the record holder for the number of different sensors. There is even support for wireless secure data transmission technologies aimed at sports equipment - ANT+.
Out of the box, the flagship comes with Android 8.0 Oreo and Samsung Experience 9.0 shell. Wow, cool! New Android!
Cool, but you won’t immediately notice the external difference from 7.0 due to the proprietary launcher. A horizontal interface display mode and several new ringtones have appeared.
Another interesting thing: there is a protected folder that can only be opened with your fingerprint. You can store all your important information and photos there. This, by the way, has already been presented in mid-price Alcatel smartphones. The feature is useful.

Also, along with the smartphone, they presented the SmartThings , which will serve as a hub for smart home things. Samsung promises support not only for its devices, but also for third-party manufacturers.
What's new in Samsung Experience 9.0? Customizable keyboard - one, smart search - two, similar to Spotlight in iOS, cloning instant messengers - three.
While some services have support for multi-accounts, for example, Telegram, most other instant messengers do not. The new feature will allow you to clone Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp. This feature is already in the Galaxy Note 8 (see the review “Comparison of Galaxy S9+ and Note 8”).
And lastly, Bixby , it has been upgraded, but of course we won’t talk about it, of course we won’t. Because you yourself understand how it works in Russian.
What else? Samsung DeX now supports the following resolutions: 1600 by 900 pixels, 1920 by 1080 and 2560x1440. And just like the Note 8, Game Launcher now launches games in full screen.
Samsung DeX itself has also been updated to the DeX Pad . This accessory, which turns your smartphone into a PC, has changed in design - the smartphone now lies on it, so the screen can be used as a trackpad.
The keyboard also works. Third-party manipulators are no longer needed, only an external monitor. Go ahead.
Toward productivity. At the start everything is fine, it flies like a fighter, but not as fast as the Pixel 2 or OnePlus 5T or Razer Phone. Take this into account.
In AnTuTu , smartphones score almost 250 thousand points. Geekbench4 is also good. You can play any games, this is a gaming smartphone. but it heats up and has throttling, oddly enough, although this particular device is powered by Exynos 9810, (they will be sold in Russia) there is also a version with Snapdragon 845, which will be sold in the USA and some other countries. Maybe the situation is better there.
But overall the processor is very fast and the phone works great too. But it also happened with the Galaxy S8, but the system quickly became clogged, and when it was updated in February of this year, there was hope for improved autonomy. Which quickly died, just like the charge of this smartphone.
Now the S8+ with wi-fi and 4G on is already 50% by lunchtime, and by 7 pm there is 10% left. This is a very bad result. If you take a lot of photographs at all, then by lunchtime it simply runs out, and this is with a 3000 mAh battery. The S9+ has the same - 3500 mAh. S9 3000 mAh. - like a regular S8.
So there is a high probability that in six months the new smartphone will turn into a quickly discharging pumpkin.
But now the S9+ is doing well, it survives until the evening, providing 5-6 hours of screen time. It also charges quickly: 1.5 hours for the regular S9, a little longer for the S9+. Wireless charging is supported.
Well, to the camera. "That's the most important thing about the new Galaxy." Samsung's message on the website reads: Camera. Recreated. Both versions use 12 MP modules.
However, if previously the aperture was 1.7, now it is variable - from 1.5 to 2.4. You can even see how the diaphragm narrows and expands. This is the first time in the history of smartphones, Samsung is the first! On the plus side, the first peephole has a variable aperture, the second is f/2.4 for portrait shots and 2x zoom.
This is the main difference between smartphones and a controversial decision by Samsung. Obviously, it was impossible to squeeze a dual camera into a small version and the Koreans followed the Apple path with their separation, and partly in response to the market.
Variable aperture seems to be the most important thing, and the S9 is definitely better at taking photos in low light.
See also: Review of Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e. Regular best flagships
But the difference is so-so, and besides, Pixel 2 is still better in this matter. And there isn’t even a second peephole.
And what do you think? The portraits are better on it too. So all this is nothing more than marketing, there is only 2x zoom and that’s cool.
Future S9 owners shouldn't be upset that they don't have a blur mode like the S9+. You just download the custom Google Camera app from Pixel 2 . And you get beautiful portraits, as well as HDR+ photos.
Well, okay, portraits appeared, shooting at night became better. What about the daytime? Nothing. The difference is completely unnoticeable. For craftsmen and mobile photographers, there is a separate Pro mode with manual settings, where you can set your own aperture, ISO, shutter speed, and so on.
It is in the combination of these parameters with the new variable aperture that, in theory, you can get excellent pictures. The problem is that most will use the automatic mode, where the difference is only noticeable in low light.
Well, one last thing. A year ago, Sony introduced the Xperia XZ Premium with the ability to record Slo-Mo at 960 frames per second at 720p resolution. The Japanese even allocated a separate memory in the sensor camera so that it could store incoming information for 6 seconds in 1/10 of a second of real time.
Samsung repeated exactly the same thing, and Sony has already gone ahead with the Xperia XZ2 this year, increasing the video resolution to Full HD (although in this case the video lasts only 3 seconds, this must be taken into account). This is all very impressive and cool in itself for a mobile camera, but the trick, objectively, is a couple of times.
For normal video, you need almost perfect lighting, otherwise it will flicker and look bad. As a nice bonus: the filmed slow-mo can be used as your desktop wallpaper. But overall, this is a stupid demonstration of capabilities.
What’s more interesting is that the camera shoots 4K (3840×2160) at 60 frames per second , this is already cool and useful. Optical stabilization works really well. The focus is fast, the sound is written perfectly.
In this regard, it is an ideal camera phone . Samsung couldn't resist copying something from Apple and introduced its own Animoji, calling them selfiemoji.
How it works: can I not talk about it? Because it all works crookedly, the technology is strange and ugly.
Yes, they completely forgot about the front camera. It is here - 8 megapixels. This is not a top-end front-facing camera, it takes good pictures, a wide angle will work naturally for duck lips on Instagram.
Well, what else do you need? The start of smartphone sales in Russia is March 16th. S9 costs 60 thousand rubles , and S9+ from 67 thousand . 256 GB version – 75 thousand.
Three colors: black diamond, titanium and ultraviolet. There is also a blue version, but it has become exclusive to some countries.
Interestingly, Samsung on its official website offers new products under the trade-in - that is, you can exchange your old smartphone for a new one with an offset to the price.
True, only Samsung or Apple smartphones are accepted. For example, last year’s S8+ is valued at 25,000 rubles, and the iPhone 8 Plus at 40,000.
And what's the bottom line? The first opinion was not deceptive and the Galaxy S9 is a work of mistakes, and there is little point in switching from the S8 or S8+ to the new product. Although no one forbids you to go to the store and buy something. But I would advise only owners of the Galaxy S6 and older models to take a closer look at the S9.
This is the whole conclusion - on the one hand, on the other - we have a phone without compromises at all and this is probably the best solution on the Russian market. There is absolutely everything you could want, and everyone can take a closer look, with the possible exception of those who like naked Android.

Display Samsung Galaxy S9
For the first time in a long time, the manufacturer released its main flagship without any major changes to the screen. The same AMOLED matrix with a high resolution of 2960x1440 pixels and a 5.8-inch diagonal is used. This approach has its advantages, because we get a high pixel density per inch of 570 ppi. As a result, the image looks sharp even with such a large diagonal. But as you know, such a resolution also has its drawbacks, which include a decrease in autonomy and performance. The screen occupies 88% of the front panel area - not a record, but close to it.
To avoid this, you can set a lower resolution in the settings - a simple and effective way to solve the problem. The rest of the goodies inherent to the Galaxy S8 display have also been preserved - a blue filter, support for HDR10 and Always-On functions, as well as automatic color adjustment.
While conducting a review of the Samsung Galaxy S9, I noticed that the manufacturer has so far hit the ceiling, because there is simply nothing to improve in the display. The image quality and color rendition have been at the highest level for the last few years; there is no need for such a high resolution. It is only useful for working with virtual reality helmets; in other cases it is better to set it to FullHD+. By the way, it was installed initially.
The viewing angles and brightness margin are excellent, and it’s a pleasure to work with the screen under any conditions. Compared to the previous flagship, the black became a little deeper, this is the only change that I was able to notice. Otherwise, the displays are identical, except for the fact that the high sensitivity mode has returned.
Samsung Galaxy S9 performance and specifications
As before, two versions of the smartphone are going on sale - on its own Exynos 9810 Octa processor, which will officially be available in Russia and Europe, as well as on the flagship Snapdragon 845, intended for China and America. The Exynos 9810 was one of the manufacturer's first chips made using a 10nm process technology, which provides huge advantages in terms of heat dissipation and battery power consumption. Samsung Galaxy S9 technical specifications suggest the presence of 8 cores, 4 of which operate at a frequency of up to 2.7 GHz (high-performance) and the same number up to 1.5 GHz (energy efficient, used when performing everyday tasks to save battery). The Mali-G72 MP18 video accelerator is responsible for processing graphics in games. Undoubtedly, the result was a powerful combination that should perform well under any conditions, but nevertheless, no one could surpass the Snapdragon 845.
Galaxy S9 test in Antutu
Samsung Galaxy S9 technical specifications in terms of memory capacity have not changed at all. The buyer has to choose between 64, 128 or 256 GB of internal memory. In any case, the RAM will be 4 GB and, surprisingly, this is enough, although even inexpensive Chinese flagships will have more of it. By the way, it works quickly, because it is made according to the LPDDR4x standard. In the younger version, 51 GB of free space remains for use; if this is not enough, then to expand the volume you will have to sacrifice one SIM card. Instead, you can install a microSD card with a capacity of up to 400 GB.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 64gb smartphone review makes it clear that the performance reserve will be enough for at least the next few years. I conducted all tests at the maximum screen resolution, you can see the results below. All games run smoothly, even during dynamic scenes the load on the processor and graphics chip does not exceed 50%. In most top games, for example in Tanks, we see a stable 60 fps on maximum graphics, but in Injustice 2 the number of frames per second reaches 30. This is the maximum for today, this game is too demanding.
Samsung Galaxy S9 results in AnTutu Benchmark
In the popular AnTuTu benchmark, the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone scores an average of about 315,828 points. This figure, like all those given below, was taken from the official website of the developer of this software. Unfortunately, we currently do not have detailed data on the device's performance in AnTutu.

New user identification method
When conducting a review of the Samsung G960 Galaxy S9, one cannot fail to mention a new method of user identification, which is based on smart scanning technology. Its key feature is the combination of facial and iris recognition, which provides fast and hassle-free access to the smartphone in difficult environments. Unlocking works quickly under any conditions, although there is a slight delay when compared with a fingerprint scanner. It takes about a second from the moment the user is recognized until the lock screen is removed. You can use the technology in conjunction with a fingerprint scanner, choosing which is more convenient at the moment. For example, if the smartphone is lying on its back, then it will be much faster and more convenient to unlock it by face.
Sound
A review of the Samsung Galaxy S9 64 GB revealed positive changes in terms of sound. The stereo sound effect, for which the main speaker sounds paired with a conversational speaker, is pleasantly surprising. This creates a full-fledged stereo effect with support for Dolby Atmos technology. The speakers sound very loud, and just as importantly, the sound is clear. This makes listening to music with friends enjoyable. The included AKG EO-IG955 headphones, which the manufacturer is so proud of, are also pleasing. They sound great and will delight even music lovers.
Samsung Galaxy S9 interface
While the design of the smartphone has undergone virtually no changes, a lot of work has been done on its interface and functionality. Out of the box, the phone runs on the Samsung Experience 9.0 shell, based on the 8th generation of Android. This gives access to interesting features, the first of which catches your eye when you turn it on - the ability to select pre-installed applications, most of which can be discarded. Thanks to this, the user has the opportunity to leave only what he needs and what he will use.
Samsung Galaxy S9 review in Russian 2022 showed that you can now create copies of applications, which allows you to log into them from different accounts at the same time. For this purpose, the Dual Messenger system utility was added. Cloned apps are marked with a special icon in the bottom corner so you can easily identify them.
But these are not all the features of the Samsung Galaxy S9. Now its shell supports landscape orientation, which is especially useful for motorists. The remaining changes concern only the appearance of some elements.
Using the keyboard, in just a couple of clicks, you can send GIFs and AR-emojis that you created earlier. They are also available in the online catalog, where you can conveniently search for them by tags.
A review of the Samsung Galaxy S9 64gb in Russian showed that the Bixby virtual assistant is almost completely translated into Russian, but it is almost impossible to use it, since it has not yet learned to support voice and text commands in Russian. If you speak English well, consider yourself very lucky. To activate the assistant, just say “Hi, Bixby” (even if the smartphone is locked) or by pressing the corresponding key. The capabilities of the assistant are very great; it can control any functions of the system, but they are not yet available in Russian.
To the left of the home screen is the Bixby Hello panel, where you can check out a selection of cards from third-party apps - a good way to find out the latest news. After spending a little time setting up, you will receive only the information you are interested in.
Samsung Galaxy S9 review and testing shows that using Bixby now awards experience points and levels. Points are given both for working with the assistant and for improving the quality of its functioning - correcting incorrect commands and making suggestions for its further development. This gives a certain competitive spirit and promotes the active development of the assistant through the efforts of the users themselves - a cunning move by the manufacturer.
Wireless communications
The smartphone definitely has no problems with this; the Samsung Galaxy S9 review showed that it supports all modern communications. Among them are LTE-A Cat18 (1200/200 Mbit/s), Wi-Fi of all bands and frequencies with support for MIMO 2×2 technology, as well as Bluetooth 5th generation with the ability to connect two devices simultaneously. There are two modifications of the device on sale: the Galaxy S9 with two SIM cards will be officially sold in our country, but you can also find a single-SIM device. NFC and MST are intended for using Samsung Pay, where without them in one of the main flagships of 2022. Navigation systems include GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BDS. Everything works quickly and stably, as befits a flagship from one of the leading brands.
Autonomy Samsung Galaxy S9 64gb
Samsung Galaxy S9 review in Russian showed that when developing its new model, the manufacturer retained the same battery capacity - 3000 mAh, which, taking into account the other characteristics, will not be enough. But thanks to the improved technical process, the smartphone works as long as its predecessor, despite the fact that it has become a little more powerful. On average, the battery is discharged after 5-6 hours of display activity. In games at 50% brightness it lasted about 5.5 hours, and in FullHD video playback mode at the same brightness it lasted for 12.5 hours. For such a battery capacity, this is an excellent result; good optimization of the system is visible.
Supports fast (it takes 1 hour 47 minutes to fully charge) and wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy S9 specifications, review, reviews, comparisons, release date
Just like its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S9 looks premium and flawless. Even with such a large display, it fits nicely in the user's palm. The image quality is unquestionable, as is the quality of the photographs. It is excellent. We will look at what exactly the Galaxy S9 offers us in the following lines.
Design
The South Korean manufacturer has been using design as a key advantage of its phone models for several years now. This approach certainly brought success. Proof of this is that the design of the flagship model can now be seen in some A-series models.
If before the release of the Galaxy S9 on the market there were rumors that its appearance would not change significantly, then after its appearance we were actually convinced that this was so. A similar situation has developed with two other Samsung models - Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy A8.
It is curious that, despite the extreme similarities between the new and old models, the company's designers managed to attract the attention of consumers. The model from the Galaxy series is indistinguishable from other devices on the market.
Galaxy S9 has a metal design that has glass on both sides. There is decorative glass on the back of the device, and a curved AMOLED display on the front.
Unlike Apple, Samsung has taken a different approach to the screen. Small rims are preserved in the upper and lower parts of the panel. They are not too thick and almost blend in with the display turned off. Even in Always On mode, the front panel of the Galaxy S9 looks like a single unit. If the charging and message notification LEDs are off, the front of the device lacks dominant visual elements. On the back panel, of course, the logo and camera block stand out.
In the Galaxy S9, the company used high-quality glass, which, nevertheless, collects the user's fingerprints. Therefore, it is recommended to place the device in a case.
Display
An important element of the Galaxy S9's success is its screen. Not only the comfort of using a smartphone, but also the protection of the user’s vision depends on its quality. The Super AMOLED screens used in Samsung smartphones are proprietary and are based on organic light-emitting diodes rather than conventional liquid crystals.
This makes these displays brighter, but not unnaturally contrasty. In the sun with them the information is easy to read. Blacks are as natural as possible because the technology completely turns off the LEDs to render dark elements of the image.
Galaxy S9 is equipped with a 5.8-inch screen with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 (Quad HD+), pixel density of 570 ppi. At the time the model appeared on the market, no competing device had such an indicator. High density maximizes image detail.
It is impossible not to note the tempered glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5, rounded on the sides. The solution is so interesting that even if the phone is face down, the user can see information about missed calls, messages or even notifications.
Performance
The Galaxy S9 uses the company's Exynos 9810 as its processor. This significantly improves the performance of the device. The processor easily copes with running any programs - both light and heavy, resource-intensive, etc. The smartphone can simultaneously play music from any application, simultaneously run a game on it and enable screen recording mode.
We also have to take into account the amazing Quad HD+ screen resolution. It uses CPU resources, but without sacrificing other functionality. This can be explained in one way - the characteristics of the Exynos 9810. It includes 4 cores clocked at 2.7 GHz and 4 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz.
Memory
Galaxy S9 is equipped with 4 GB of RAM. It is fast and does not slow down the device when multitasking. The internal memory capacity is 64 GB. If you are low on memory, you can use a memory card up to 400GB.
Camera
The pride of the Galaxy S9 is its cameras. The resolution of the main one is 12 MP. This is the first smartphone camera with variable aperture. The latter allows you to control the flow of light falling on the sensor. Until now, phones have used fixed aperture lenses.
By adjusting the aperture, the user can change the depth of field of the photograph, as well as take better quality photographs of the subject. For example, in the dark it is recommended to open the aperture as wide as possible. Thanks to this new product, you can take photos with bokeh effect without a second lens. To do this, quickly take two photos with different aperture openings and get a blurred background. Samsung has made sure that the photo quality is better when shooting in low light conditions.
The main camera can save photos in RAW and JPG formats, and when recording video - in 4K resolution.
The front camera of the Galaxy S9 is 8 megapixel. It records video at 1440 resolution.
With this Samsung model, entertainment is an integral part of everyday life. To do this, use AR-emoji - a mode in which you can create personal emoji and use them in instant messengers.
Autonomous operation
Samsung Galaxy S9 is equipped with a Type-C port. The battery capacity is 3000 mAh. It's not the best battery life on the market, but with a 100% charge, you'll be able to use the smartphone all day in intensive mode.
The device supports fast and wireless charging.
Scanners
You can unlock your Galaxy S9 using convenient technology that combines facial recognition and a retinal scanner. The smartphone automatically selects the optimal method for identifying the user. To do this, it is oriented depending on the situation and the level of external illumination.
Protection
The model received a high level of protection against water and dust getting inside the case. For 30 minutes, the user can keep the device underwater at a maximum depth of 1.5 meters.
With Galaxy S9, you can easily talk and text friends and family, even when it's raining outside.
Conclusion
Galaxy S9 is another Samsung flagship!
Pros:
- High-quality display;
- Highest performance;
- Great cameras;
- AR emoji;
- Fast and wireless charging technologies.
Flaws:
- Can work on autonomy and photo quality.
Samsung Galaxy S9 camera review
The camera in the flagship has changed the most - this is what the emphasis is now on in the mobile segment, and it is often what makes users pay attention to expensive devices. Among the main features of the Galaxy S9 camera is a dedicated DRAM memory, which allows you to record spectacular slow-mo at 960 FPS. The smartphone also features a customizable aperture, which can operate in one of two modes - f/1.5 and f/2.4. There is a Dual Pixel focusing system and optical image stabilization.
When switching to manual shooting mode, you can set your own shutter speed, ISO, white balance, use manual focus, adjust the aperture and save frames in RAW format for further processing.
When you shoot during the day, you never cease to enjoy the excellent sharpness throughout the entire image and the wide dynamic range. Traces of aggressive frame processing are no longer visible, small objects are perfectly drawn, and all gradients and light transitions are clearly visible. The only thing is that with automatic settings, sometimes the white balance is closer to cool and the saturation of shades increases. This makes the photos more beautiful, but less realistic. The f/2.4 aperture improves sharpness in well-lit conditions, but when shooting in difficult conditions, this advantage is offset by the increased ISO. Therefore, it is better to rely on the automatic mode, which selects the best aperture depending on the current conditions in front of the lens, as the Samsung Galaxy S9 camera review showed.
HDR better renders objects located in the shadows and prevents highlights.
Panoramic images are saved with a resolution of 39.7 megapixels and delight with the quality of drawing objects and smooth gluing, which is completely invisible.
A review of the Samsung Galaxy S9 phone showed that the front camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels takes high-quality pictures under any conditions thanks to the increased f/1.7 aperture and the presence of autofocus. At the same time, she can record videos in 2K.
Among the interesting features is AR-moji (animated emoji created based on the owner’s face, as was implemented in the iPhone X). They are saved in GIF format and can be sent using any messenger or social network that supports this format.
Photos indoors are obtained with a minimum of noise. The Samsung Galaxy S9 review showed that the smartphone also copes well with night photography, for which it uses a record aperture of f/1.5 and a pixel size of 1.4 microns. Optical stabilization, which compensates for shaking of the operator’s hands, also has a positive effect on quality. Autofocus works instantly and accurately, no matter how difficult the shooting conditions are. As a result, we get sharp shots with a minimum of noise, which you won’t be ashamed to publish on social networks and show your friends the bright moments of your life.
Samsung Galaxy S9 detailed review introduces the fact that the flagship uses a bright, single-color flash. Photos with its help are obtained without glare. but the color balance leans towards white.
The smartphone copes well with shooting text, and the lower aperture allows you to get excellent sharpness in the corners of the image.
Example photo on Samsung Galaxy S9
Video is recorded in 4K with 60 FPS, the same applies to FullHD videos. After Sony, Samsung Galaxy S9 was the first to record slow-motion videos with 960 frames per second in 720p quality. This is achieved through dedicated lens memory, which instantly reads data from it. A similar solution has long been used in Sony flagships.

Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone has not changed that much compared to last year's flagship. It is rather an improved version, brought to almost perfection. During its development, past shortcomings were taken into account, first of all, they moved the fingerprint scanner, offered better performance and innovative cameras with adjustable aperture. It seems to me that if you have a Galaxy S8 in your hands, then switching to the S9 makes no sense, but in other cases the phone is recommended for purchase. Everything about it is good and now it can be called one of the best flagships of 2018.
Advantages:
- Gorgeous screen;
- Powerful iron;
- Top cameras with adjustable aperture;
- High-quality stereo sound effect;
- A variety of user identification methods, each of which works perfectly;
- User-friendly interface with new features.
Flaws:
- Bixby has never learned to support commands in Russian, which makes it useless in our country;
- Hybrid tray.

Performance testing
It is logical that the rival of the Galaxy S9 will be the Samsung Galaxy S8. Naturally, productivity growth is expected.
In the BasemarkOS benchmark, the new flagship is about 20% faster.
The JetStream browser test gives approximately the same difference in performance.
The difference in 3DMark is not as big as you might expect. It would seem that the Mali-G71 and G72 are different generations, with the G72 being newer... but the secret is that although there are more pipelines in the Galaxy S9 GPU, the frequency of the Galaxy S8 accelerator is higher.
Samsung Galaxy S9 in AntuTu
In Antutu, the Galaxy S9 crushes its predecessor. The advantage is almost 1.5 times.
Galaxy S9 autonomy
Our battery test involves performing the same set of actions, simulating user activity, and then measuring the remaining charge. It will be easy to compare the autonomy of the two Galaxy, since they have the same battery capacity.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 used 19% of its charge in our test, while the Galaxy S8 used 23%. The victory definitely goes to the new smartphone. The processor clearly played a decisive role, as did the optimizations of Android 8.
The energy consumption graph is typical for smartphones. Communication and graphics, especially 3D, are energy-intensive. High consumption in idle mode is due to Always On being enabled. It’s time to think about whether it’s really needed.
Energy saving management, as usual, is located in the Optimization item in the smartphone settings menu. You can also get there from the Edge panel. The Galaxy S9 doesn't offer anything new in terms of energy management. Here you can disable AlwaysOn, reduce the processor frequency and display resolution. In addition, there is a list of applications that can run in the background.
