By default, the OS is equipped with these codecs

  • H.263 – 3GPP;
  • H.264 AVC – MPEG-TS, 3GPP;
  • MPEG-4 SP – 3GPP.

Each codec supports a separate extension. For example, MPEG-4 SP - 3GPP - is a codec for the 3GP extension, but H.263 is capable of supporting the popular mp4 format. Codecs are versatile, facilitate stable playback of various videos, but still limit users a little. We will tell you about well-known and popular video players that will allow you to play any video without problems!

Real Video

The most widespread network streaming audio/video standard, proposed by RealOne, widely used for presenting music and video on the Internet and cable networks. The standard has gained immense popularity all over the world as a means of posting audio/video content on the Internet with small file sizes and quite decent quality. The small size of the output file allows you to significantly save traffic when broadcasting over communication channels, including GSM networks. RealVideo files typically have a .rm, .ram, or .rmvb extension.

To play on a phone, the file must have an image geometry of no more than 208×176 pixels and contain a total data stream of no higher than 340 kBit/s. The flow rates shown are maximum values. Depending on the phone model, they will have to be reduced several times. This format is interesting primarily as a standard for converting videos and music from sources such as DVD, AVI and MP3 files and the like. A player for playing files in RM format is already installed in S60 smartphones. To watch a video, all that remains is to choose the optimal ratio of size/quality/stream size, taking into account the capacity of the memory card and the performance of the smartphone's central processor.

To convert content into this format, there is a variety of software, starting with a plug-in for Acrobat Premier, and ending with various specialized converters.

Advantages and disadvantages of the format

The most significant drawback of the RealONE player in devices based on the Symbian platform is the inability to play video in full screen. The image is always located between the top and bottom service lines. The actual size of such an image for Nokia smartphones is 176x144 pixels. You can see how it looks on the phone in the screenshot.

Charge the battery

Shooting video, especially in 4K format, uses a lot of battery power on your device. Before you start capturing some unforgettable moments, make sure your battery has enough charge. If you have a spare removable battery or power bank, take it with you.

There are also a few things you can do to improve battery life while recording videos. One of them is the use of airplane mode, the activation of which will allow you to disable all network applications that, when running in the background, reduce battery power. Another battery killer is the LED flash. Not only is it somewhat limited in terms of full illumination of the subject being photographed, but it also “eats” battery energy like a horse.

If you need additional light for your video recording, consider an external light source when shooting at different times of the day (if possible). As a last resort, take an external battery with you to use in difficult times.

Books

In the vast majority of cases, gadgets are not equipped with full-fledged applications for reading e-books. Reading on a tablet is undoubtedly very convenient, thanks to the fairly large screen and light weight of the device. But then in what format should I download books on Android? Most modern book content is presented in PDF and EPUB formats. Sometimes, especially in the Russian-language segment of the global network, you can find the formats FB2, TXT, RTF, DJVU. Let's take a closer look at them.

  • PDF is perhaps the most popular book format for Android. It allows you to decorate your book colorfully, has a built-in table of contents, you can make notes, and highlight the text in different colors. The main drawback is that it is impossible to adjust the text size and fit it to the screen size. In addition, the files are quite large.
  • EPUB is an increasingly popular book format. It is essentially an archive of content. The structure of the document resembles a web page. Used in documents where the text is the main one. But you can embed photos, videos, and sounds. Has a table of contents and internal links to the text. A huge advantage is the ability to change the font, its size, hyphens, and page margin width, thus adapting the viewing experience to any screen size.
  • FB2 is a somewhat outdated, but still famous format in RuNet. Supports a table of contents, you can change the font size to fit any screen.
  • TXT is a regular text document. Does not support tables of contents or text changes. But it has the smallest file size.
  • RTF is a text document, somewhat reminiscent of a Microsoft Word text document.
  • DJVU - scanned image files. Allows you to convey all the authenticity of historical documents. Like PDF, it does not allow you to adjust fonts to fit the screen size.

Android supports all the most popular text formats.
What text formats does Android support other than the ones listed? There can be an incredible number of them, for example, UMD, CHM, MOBI, PDB, TCR. They are very rare, but can occur occasionally. How to read them? You can convert them to EPUB or PDF, but there is a chance to install a normal reader and not bother with the conversion. Let's look at popular programs for reading e-books.

  • Google Play Books is a book store built into Android 4 and older. Allows you to download and buy books from Play Market, and add your own through your phone’s file manager. You cannot change the font size, margin width, screen brightness, you cannot even manually turn on night mode.
  • Moon+Reader. Can read epub, pdf fb2, chm, mobi, umd, cbr, cbz, html, txt, rar, zip files.
  • Cool Reader. Support fb2, epub, mobi, html, txt, rtf, doc, tcr, prc, chm, pdb, pml.
  • FB Reader. Reading books in fb2, fbzip, epub, azw, txt, rtf, html formats. You can install additional PDF and Djvu modules.

The last three readers can change the font size, margin width, and have deep appearance settings. There is also a manual night mode switch. Choose the one that you like best.

Watch for areas with high contrast levels

Be careful if you have areas with strong sunlight, artificial lighting, or deep shadows. Your smartphone will struggle to balance these moments, and you'll end up with washed-out colors with dark areas and poor detail. Try to choose a place to shoot where the contrast will not be so high. High contrast may look cool for photos, but it's not great for videos. Remember this.

It doesn't take a genius to recognize that this is not suitable for quality video.

Reset Settings to Default

If you are tired of links being opened by one browser or another and you want to change it. Or change similarly any other action and program, then go to

Select a program that opens files automatically by clicking on it.

In the “About the application” window that opens, at the bottom you will see the item

Startup Defaults > Remove Defaults

That's it, the settings are reset. Now, the next time you try to open a file or link, you will be asked - with what? And you will need to either choose the one-time option or set new default program settings.

Disadvantages, advantages and more

One can debate endlessly about whether it is convenient to watch videos on the road. However, every day there are more and more people on the train, plane and even in the minibus who like to while away the time not reading books or listening to music, but in front of a mobile “blue” screen. Do you want to join the ranks of mobile moviegoers, but don’t know how to make your communicator, PDA or smartphone “play the film”?

Let's try to describe the benefits that a person who has mastered the art of pocket video receives. Firstly, this is mobility. To watch a new blockbuster, for example, in a train compartment, you don’t have to lug around a bulky laptop or, in general, a TV. All you have to do is sit comfortably on your shelf and just put on your headphones.

Since handheld devices often have a slightly smaller appetite for battery power than the same laptops, such a mobile “cinema” can provide several hours of video viewing. The long road will no longer be boring.

Mobile cinemas also have disadvantages. For example, this is a relatively small screen that cannot be compared, for example, with the display of a widescreen TV or monitor. However, if you are the owner of a VGA device such as the HTC Advantage X7500 (formerly known as the HTC Athena), you definitely won't have to complain about the small screen size.

Another drawback, which, however, is also becoming less and less evident in new models of mobile devices, is the viewing angle, which is not enough for several viewers to watch the video at the same time.

Even when watching a mobile video, a person is almost completely disconnected from the world around him - he hears only what is heard in the headphones, and his gaze is riveted on the mobile display. But a similar effect can be produced by a regular TV.

At the moment, you can take with you on the road to watch videos (starting with large dimensions) a laptop, netbook, tablet PC or e-reader, PDA, communicator or smartphone, phone or player. The tablet PC (tablet PC) is currently the most popular. Basically, these devices have sufficient characteristics to view video in HD or even Full HD format, while the dimensions of this device are minimal (it is slightly wider than the display itself, and in terms of thickness it will outperform most smartphones). As for me, I prefer the Android smartphone Sony Ericsson Neo V. The reason that I don’t use a tablet is that carrying a phone in my pocket is much easier (well, more like a phone, a player, a camera and a computer with a webcam) and more convenient.

Setting the display of subtitles

Subtitle support is one of MX Player's greatest strengths. With their help, you can watch new blockbusters and TV series even before they are officially localized. However, not everyone knows that the display of subtitles in the player can be fine-tuned: select a font, set its size, specify the location of lines on the screen.

FLV, or Flash Video, is a special format for transmitting video over the Internet. Adobe Flash was created in the image and likeness of this company's standard - SWF. The format contains title, sound and image, metadata. It is in FLV that video hosting sites provide streaming video for viewing. This allows them to make downloading difficult. Therefore, programs designed for this format are able to download a video file from the hosting and play it. The latter are sometimes replaced by special plugins for media players.

With Android everything is simpler in this regard. What video format for Android do MoliPlayer, BSPlayer, VPlayer and other companies exactly support? Of course it's FLV. Always one of the first on lists as one of the most common.

The abbreviation AVI itself can be literally deciphered as “alternating audio and video.” The format is a container of audio, image and text streams (if available). The types of compressed data in it depend on the codecs used. So, all AVIs are the same on the outside, but their filling can be completely different.

The peculiarity of this format is the lack of support for variable bitrate. Partly because of this, partly because of the continuous audio stream, AVI sometimes experiences desynchronization of sound and image.

Therefore, this is not the best video format for Android, but AVI can be played on it without any problems by MX Player, KM Player, BS Player and others.

How to prepare a video for viewing on Android

So, have you installed the program and are ready to get started? In this case, launch the software and immediately click the “Add”

.
Find the video file you need and load it into the program. Then click on the “Formats” button at the bottom of the screen and select a new video extension. You can also use the settings from the “Devices”
, which presents the optimal parameters for videos intended for playback from the screens of phones, players, set-top boxes, etc.

Selecting Save Settings

It’s also worth paying attention to the fact that in VideoMASTER you can figure out how to merge a video into one file without losing quality and significantly improve the video, since the software has a built-in mini-editor. When all settings are completed, click on the “Convert”

. Immediately after this, you can transfer the resulting video to the device you need.
