Samsung Galaxy S11 smartphone – advantages and disadvantages

It so happened that many of the news this week related to Samsung in one way or another. Either details of the Galaxy S11 will appear, then Donald Trump will speak out about the Korean manufacturer, then the Galaxy S10 LIte will pop up. But the news did not spare Huawei with its non-standard proposal and Google with its work on updating smartphones.

Results of the week

Specifications

The new product, of course, will have many of the functions that are found in the Galaxy Note 10, released on 08/07/2019.

Most likely, the corporation from South Korea will take care of new colors, fast charging at 45 W (currently the Galaxy S10 restores the battery using a charger with a power of 15 W) and improved photographic capabilities. Alas, most likely the new product will not have a Jack-type headset port. By the way, the smartphone will lose an independent button that is responsible for calling Bixby, as well as a heart rate monitor.

Performance

The Galaxy S11 will feature a new generation Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm. Most likely, it will be the Snapdragon 865 system. This modification should be sold in the USA. In European countries, the device will be sold with an exclusive Exynos chip from Samsung.

The performance of both solutions is guaranteed to be identical and high. It is very likely that the system will be manufactured according to the 5nm process technology. This method will increase the energy savings of the system. Taken together, this will lead to improved battery life.

In addition, the South Korean corporation will most likely install a 5G network modem with a chip, which will also reduce battery consumption. Both options will have support for high-speed memory such as LPDDR5X and UFS 3.0.

Screen

As of today, it is still unclear whether the South Korean company will demonstrate a compact and slightly affordable variant with an “e” at the end in 2022. Judging by the popularity of the Galaxy S10e, which was released in 2022, then a similar course of events is quite possible.

It is possible to predict that 2 solutions will be released:

  1. Smartphone S11 with a display diagonal of 6.1 inches.
  2. Plus version with a screen diagonal of 6.4 inches.

Autonomy

The battery capacity should be approximately 3,400 mAh in the regular version and 4,100 mAh in the extended (Plus) version. Recent information suggests that a South Korean company may be preparing a revolution in phone batteries.

The new product can be equipped with a graphene battery that supports ultra-fast charging. It is expected that innovative technologies will be released in the first devices next year or 2022. Graphene batteries are more expensive to manufacture when compared to the lithium-ion batteries known today. In this regard, many experts suggest that the premium S11 device will be equipped with this technology.

The graphene battery is designed to provide the best possible performance when compared to lithium-ion batteries. The use of this type of battery will significantly increase the autonomy of devices. This will most likely appeal to owners of smartphones manufactured today who have difficulties with this.

For example, the S10 has a battery with a capacity of 3,400 mAh, which makes it possible to fully use it during a day of active use of the smartphone, and there is no need to recharge the battery during these days.

The next advantage, which is due to the integration of graphene batteries in the new product, is ultra-fast charging. Today's smart devices provide fast charging on the order of several tens of watts, but the effectiveness of this option decreases significantly as the battery charge level increases.

Modern premium smartphones are capable of restoring the battery charge from 0% to 50% in half an hour, but the next half is restored over a significantly longer period of time. The graphene-type battery charges the component from zero to one hundred percent in about half an hour. Today there is no information regarding the reliable parameters of such a battery. In addition, it is unclear what autonomy the graphene battery will have and how much it will cost to replace it.

In addition, we should not forget that after a good decline in the battery on the Galaxy Note 7 model, Samsung, of course, will be more careful in terms of integrating innovative power solutions.

Cameras

There may also be differences in the cameras. The S11 model may be equipped with a single module on the front side, and the Plus version with a dual camera offering a bokeh effect. Similar solutions are already available in the 2022 S10 and S10 Plus smartphones.

There is still a lot of time before the release of the new product, but it is possible to find more and more information about the Galaxy S11 on the Internet. Most insiders are leaning towards the innovative Infinity-O screen with a camera that will be located on the display.

This information was also disclosed by Y. Byung-Duk, deputy president of the research group of the South Korean corporation. Another solution is to minimize the protrusion on the display. Ice Universe, an internet personality popular for his own claims regarding leaks, says the S11 range will launch under the iconic Picasso name and introduce significant camera improvements.

Most likely, the new products will feature an innovative proprietary Isocell Bright GW1 matrix, offering a 64 megapixel format. It is capable of combining 4 pixels into one, taking a 16-megapixel photo in high quality. Recent leaks differ from information received from Ice Universe, as other sources say that the South Korean company should focus on improving the quality of pictures and videos while creating a new product.

The fact is that Samsung recently released an innovative 108 MP matrix, developed in partnership with the Chinese corporation Xiaomi. It is likely that this will be the new product in 2022. ISOCELL Bright HMX is an exclusive smartphone lens with a format larger than 100 megapixels. Most users already know that the 108-megapixel format is a move by marketers, since photos will be taken in a smaller format as standard.

The South Korean company will use proprietary Tetracell technology, connecting 4 nearby pixels. As a result, users will receive pictures in 27 MP format, which will be much better quality, and even much smaller when compared with the 108 megapixel original.

It is unclear whether the South Korean company will make it possible to photograph 108 MP footage in a special mode. In addition, the large format matrix and premium components must be a factor in the fact that the new product will make it possible to shoot video in 6K format. The smartphone, which will be released in 2022, is also capable of providing multiple optical or mixed magnification.

The development of the latest ISOCELL Bright HMX matrices started last month of this year, and therefore the South Korean company is, of course, capable of producing the number of them that will be needed to release new smartphones. The main 108-megapixel matrix will be equipped with two auxiliary lenses. They will be a telephoto and wide-angle lens. In addition, it is possible to assume that the new product will have a depth sensor, which appeared in the latest Galaxy Note 10 model.

BY

It is possible to predict that the new product will be released with the Android 10 Q operating system on board, which was released in August 2019. Perhaps the new product will also demonstrate an upgraded version of the One UI overlay.

Design and reliability of assembly

The first pictures and shots showing the design of the smartphone were provided by Tech Configurations and are available in this article. It should be noted that most of the components were taken from the Galaxy A80, but there is no reliable information that the new product will be exactly like this.

Advantages:

  • New colors;
  • Ultra-fast charging with a power of 45 W;
  • Improved cameras;
  • Incredible performance.

Flaws:

  • Lack of headset jack port;
  • The absence of a button that is responsible for calling the Bixby assistant.

How Google plans to extend the update period for its smartphones

No matter what anyone says, Android has always been bad with updates. Despite the fact that in the last couple of years the situation has gradually begun to improve and manufacturers have begun to behave more responsibly, the duration of software support for even flagship smartphones still does not exceed two years. This is usually explained either by technical limitations of the operating system, or by the insufficiently productive hardware of the devices themselves, which stop updating already in the third year. Fortunately, it is possible to correct the situation, and it seems that Google has decided to do so.

Android will update faster and longer, but it will come at the cost of openness

Android is based on a heavily modified Linux kernel. Initially, its change seemed to be a necessary measure to expand the functionality of compatible devices, but now Google developers are planning to return to using the original kernel. They talked about this at the Linux Plumbers conference. According to them, this will reduce costs for Google itself and third-party manufacturers when adapting new versions of the operating system, since it will relieve them of the need to process colossal amounts of data.

Will it definitely be the Galaxy S11?

In Korea, they say that the new generation of premium phone may not be called Galaxy S11. To this day, Samsung has been fully predictable, and since the release of the Galaxy S in June 2010, the figure for each generation has increased.

By the way, there are many smartphone manufacturers on the market who, after demonstrating devices with the number 10 in the name, have completely changed their naming method. Examples include Huawei, Apple and Microsoft.

The South Korean corporation has still not given confirmation or denial, so we can expect a device named Galaxy S 2020 and Galaxy S 20. It is possible that the South Korean company will completely turn its back on the S symbol and come up with a new method for naming its own premium smartphones.

For example, not long ago the A model range went through major external changes, after which new names were introduced. Probably, today is exactly the moment when you can do exactly the same with a series of premium smartphones.

The war between Apple and Samsung from the perspective of Donald Trump

Today, Google, Huawei, Xiaomi and many others are considered Apple’s main competitors, and this is understandable. The first develops an operating system that directly competes with iOS, the second opposes Apple in the field of innovative technologies, and the third simply makes super-popular technology that is used by millions. But just a few years ago everything was different, and only Samsung could be considered Apple’s only competitor. However, Cupertino considers it necessary to fight the Koreans and, apparently, fears them so much that they even ask US President Donald Trump for help.

Donald Trump believes Apple is at a disadvantage to Samsung

This week, Donald Trump visited the plant in Austin, Texas, where Apple assembles Mac Pro computers. During a tour of the enterprise, the US President was accompanied by Tim Cook, who considered it necessary to ask his companion to make an exception for Apple and relieve it of the obligation to pay duties for the import of branded equipment made in China into the country. This will help the company compete more aggressively with Samsung, which does not pay the same duty because it manufactures its equipment in Korea, which means it is in a better position than Apple.

What is the price?

The South Korean company Samsung, like Apple, is gradually increasing the cost of its own premium devices. The S7 model currently costs about 53 thousand rubles, and the Galaxy S8 – 58,000 rubles. In 2022, the S9 model was estimated at 60,000 rubles, and therefore the cost of the new product will not exceed 60,000 RUB.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that after recent increases, experts do not recommend worrying about further price increases. A South Korean company should not do this. It can be predicted that the cost will increase only if the entire new series has support for the 5G network in standard versions. This is possible, since the new generation network should begin to develop next year.

Huawei started paying for installing applications from AppGallery

The situation that happened to Huawei this spring has no analogues. The company was not just deprived of the right to cooperate with American enterprises, but actually its entire business was threatened. But while the hardware of Huawei smartphones is almost entirely produced in China, the software, on the contrary, is of American origin. As a result, the company lost access to the most important component of any smartphone - Google services. But Huawei would not be itself if it had not found a way out of this situation.

AppGallery is still far from full-fledged competition with Google Play, but it is striving for this in every possible way

Despite the fact that Huawei has long had its own app store called AppGallery, for a long time its range was not wide enough to compete with Google Play. Therefore, when it became clear that there was no longer any hope for the return of the old order, the Chinese began to hastily replenish their own catalog with software that is popular with users from around the world, including Russia. This is how the Gos, Raiffeisen and Home Credit applications appeared in the AppGallery, as well as almost all Yandex services. But how to force users to install them from AppGallery, and not from Google Play?

Huawei gives gifts to AppGallery users for installing useful applications

To increase the number of downloads from AppGallery, Huawei has decided to start paying users for installing selected applications. They change approximately every 7-10 days and in order to receive a reward, you need to download the programs selected by Huawei within this period. Of course, for installation you are not charged real money, but virtual coins, which are nevertheless converted into rubles at face value. For each installation you can get 30 coins, that is, 30 rubles. It turns out that for 8 applications that are now offered for installation, you can already get 240 rubles, which is quite good. Moreover, these are not stupid games from unknown developers, but completely necessary applications like Yandex.Taxi, Tinkoff Investments and Yandex.Market.

Subscribe to our channel in Yandex.Zen. It will be better for you.

However, there are also limitations. Coins awarded for installations can only be used to pay for in-app purchases in games and applications downloaded from AppGallery. These can be any applications, not just those that were downloaded as part of an advertising campaign, which slightly softens the established restrictions. Obviously, in this way Huawei wants to increase user activity by forcing them not just to download, but also to use the applications that they have downloaded.

However, accruing bonus coins is not everything. A detailed analysis of the catalog showed that Huawei smartphone users are also offered exclusive gifts from the developers themselves. For example, those who install Dr. antivirus from AppGallery. Web, they promise 3 months of free service, and for installing the Tanuki delivery service application you will get a roll as a gift. And there are several dozen such promotions in the catalogue. The main thing is to just go there and see what you can profit from. It turns out that installing applications from AppGallery is not only convenient, but also profitable.

Cameras

A more detailed analysis of the cameras will be later in a separate review, but for now I opened the application itself and started taking pictures. And my first glance fell on the “Portrait” mode.

I took a photo and discovered that there was a feature called “Change Background Effect.” It allows you to apply a blur effect to those objects that the camera mistook for the background. Thanks to two effects called “Rotation” and “Scale”, you can make very dynamic photos from your images:

Or Natasha very dynamically assembles her portrait from threads:

I also received a stabilizer for the camera, which received a lens with an equivalent focal length of 70 mm. Essentially, this means that the smartphone has an optical zoom of 2.9x rather than 3x, but who cares about such subtleties?

The optical stub also works well with digital zoom. Samsung boasts a lot about its 30x zoom on the base S22 and 100x on the S22 Ultra. And if we can’t talk about the artistry of such photographs yet, then we can’t talk about the information component: the camera allows you to see what the human eye cannot see due to the distance of the object.

Well, this is a first glance, serious photographs are not needed here. The camera also shoots well in other modes: the pictures are clear during the day, I haven’t had a chance to try the camera at night yet, but we will definitely show pictures and video examples in future reviews.
