Although little by little we hear more and more about Xiaomi Mi 10, for now Mi 9 still remains indispensable for many users and the Chinese firm. This 2022 flagship has some interesting technologies, including an audio section. However, we can always go further if we use Tricks to improve the sound of Mi 9.
The Mi 9 has a powerful processor, a triple camera on the back and already essential technologies in a wide range, such as an in-screen fingerprint sensor. Causes of bad sound
There are several objective reasons, they were collected by me from independent sources, and my own modest observations complete the picture.
- Already mentioned above, the average volume of the earpiece, microphone, loudspeaker, in short, all attributes of the smartphone’s audio system. The user will receive it along with a brand new device. Sometimes the parameters are so low that the sound is barely audible.
- Firmware bug. Either it sits initially in MIUI, or it arrives in an update by air. From a series of unforeseen and unpredictable errors, from which you cannot protect yourself initially, you need to correct them after the fact.
- Hardware failure. The most likely reason as a percentage of all others. Divided into several types:
- When a Xiaomi phone falls from a height, we get mechanical damage that is invisible to the eye. You may not immediately feel or notice;
- poor contact in the headphone jack.
The sound becomes intermittent, quiet, and occasionally disappears. One version is that water got into the nest. The easiest way to diagnose is in the following way: try changing the position of the plug in space, if you can find a certain position in which everything gets better, and when changed, it disappears, then you are on the right path, comrades. To the master, to the service center; - headphones are broken. A whole bunch of surprises are expected here: a broken wire, poor contact in the plug, water in the speakers. Eliminated by replacement method (the simplest);
- Your phone is full to capacity. The internal memory is bursting at the seams, the device works with strange freezes and bugs. The mistakes are pouring out like buckets of them. Possible course of events when the smartphone is 100% loaded. This also has something to do with sound.
- The icons in the curtain were accidentally pressed - no sound, flight. Look carefully at the status bar, everything is in front of you.
- The source file you are listening to, for example music, is of poor quality. Check all audio listening modes and determine the root cause. Do not draw conclusions based on one reproduced item.
The warranty for all products is valid subject to following simple rules:
- The protective film has not been removed (displays, touch/protective glass, etc.)
- No signs of self-repair (traces of disassembly, soldering);
- No mechanical damage;
- Preservation of warranty stickers, seals and packaging in which the spare part was purchased;
- Availability of all documents confirming the fact of purchase (invoice and/or receipt);
- Transportation costs for delivery of guaranteed products to the point of sale are not included in the warranty obligations.
The warranty does not cover spare parts, tools and equipment that have failed (lost consumer quality) as a result of mechanical damage, moisture, heating, electromagnetic influence or any other external factors that are not the culprit. Cables and keyboard backings are accepted without traces of mechanical impact (dents, bends, etc.).
Increase volume via recovery
Not the best method to increase the speaker volume on Android; for the latest proprietary MIUI 9 shell it has somewhat lost its relevance due to the fact that there are simpler solutions. They will be discussed below, but for now I offer experienced users the latest instructions from the 4pda forum.
To begin with, the necessary conditions for its implementation:
- availability of root rights;
- unlocked bootloader;
- Installed custom TWRP recovery.
If all this is present, then let's get started.
- Install a file manager with root rights. To choose from, they are all good: Root Browser, ES Explorer, Total Commander. You can download from the Play Market.
- We go to the system folder with the installed manager and create another folder in it called su.d. We give her rights - rwxr-xr-x. If you have any doubts, read how this is done. This instruction is brief.
- Place the specified archive in the newly created folder. We set the same rights for it - rwxr-xr-x.
- We reboot the phone.
- Boot into recovery and install the zip file you downloaded earlier. Just click INSTALL.
- Without leaving TWRP we install another archive (also prepared in advance).
- We reboot into the system, the result of all manipulations will be a new icon on the table with the letter V in the middle.
- Go to the installed program and adjust the sound. Here you need to select your type of headphones or phone speaker. It is proposed to increase all equalizer frequencies to the maximum and raise the overall gain by 6 decibels.
- Turn on the sound and enjoy the volume level. Check if the speaker is choking, maybe you need to lower it a little. Take care of your eardrums.
For those who don’t want to bother installing this utility, I suggest a patch that is suitable for almost all versions of MIUI. Installation also from under custom recovery by simple installation of the file. No further action is required from you, changes to the OS have already been made.
Other tricks
Two headphones or speakers at the same time?
The Mi 9 does not have a 3.5 headphone jack, this greatly limits our options when we want to share audio with a friend and we both want stereo sound. Bluetooth 5 technology allows multiple headphones to connect simultaneously, but is designed for different peripherals. This way we can connect Mi Band 4 and wireless headphones, but not two headphones at the same time.
The solution is to get two headphones or speakers that are connected to each other, something known in some brands as a wireless stereo dual pair. So the headphones are connected to our terminal and the seconds are connected to the first headphones to listen to the same sound.
Changing the values in the system file
The best way to increase Xiaomi volume at the moment. However, it is not without its shortcomings. You will need root rights, you cannot do without them. Next, install the specified file manager from the list, and perform the following steps:
- Using the manager, go to the /system/etc directory.
- We are looking for a file called mixer_paths_tasha. You may not find an exact match to what is indicated; it has its own name for different models, but the first two words will remain unchanged.
- Open it for editing. We give permission for corrections, otherwise nothing will work. Read/write mode - (r/o - r/w) needs to be changed.
- We are looking for lines of the form: and. We change the digital values to higher ones, for example 11 to 16.
- Then we find the line with the value (located below) - Change the number 84 to 90 or even 95.
- We put everything back: rw-rr
Recent research limits the parameters that need to be adjusted; it is possible that point 5 will lead to excessive sound amplification. To begin with, limit yourself to point 4. Before starting the procedure, I advise you to carefully read the principles of the file manager, otherwise you can harm your smartphone by deleting more than you should.
Unfortunately, there is no truly universal instruction for all, without exception, released models. Some are already outdated, the manufacturer’s proprietary shell is constantly changing, and so are the ways to solve emerging problems.
Worth knowing:
- Almost all displays fail as a result of mechanical shock. Breakage of the display due to “broken itself” is not a basis for return;
- Parts, like all equipment, have their own service life. Most of the cables fail before this time due to improper installation. This is especially true for slider phones.
- All components undergo quality control.
Please note that our product is technically complex. The list of technically complex goods that can be replaced only if there is a significant defect is approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of May 13, 1997 N 575. Defective goods are replaced with similar ones.

Volume settings via the engineering menu
Everything described above is one hundred percent applicable to this method. What was once the most accessible way to adjust system sound volume parameters has become completely irrelevant. At the moment, the engineering menu is a set of sound tests of all attributes of the phone's audio system; any actions with the values of the characteristics of the listened one have been removed. We state: today it is not possible to increase the sound level through the engineering menu.
For particularly persistent users, however, there is a way out. Downgrading the firmware to a value below 9.2 will result in the entire palette of once-in-demand settings being at your disposal. Go through the dialer to the service menu - *#*#6484#*#* and use it.
But to fully describe this not entirely logical move, I would have to plunge into the jungle of the firmware downgrade procedure, which is not within the scope of this article. I have shown you only a possible path, decide for yourself whether you need it or not.

Setting up smooth adjustment
Once upon a time, it was possible to change everything in two steps, indicating a greater discreteness of volume steps from the engineering menu. Now, for the reasons described above, things have become more complicated.
I offer you a method I dug up on the 4pda forum, based on editing the following system files:
- xml;
- xml;
- conf;
- prop.
The first three are in the system/etc folder, the last one is in system. Recording corrections is available from the file manager with superuser rights (see above).
There are quite a few edits, I refer you to the original source so as not to transfer someone else’s work into my article. The changes you make will be significant, so think carefully before embarking on such a risky, from my point of view, swimming through the waves of the MIUI system. The reward for the most persistent is that there will be no more ear-piercing changes when you increase the volume, you will be satisfied with the sound.
Quiet sound in headphones on MIUI 9
As a temporary solution to the problems, I suggest a simple way to enhance the sound on the latest version of MIUI. After updating to the ninth version of the company's proprietary shell, a bug was noticed to reduce the volume level in the headphones. Changing the region helps:
- go to settings;
- Advanced settings;
- region;
- changing Russia to Taiwan or North Korea
- we check the sound, it should increase without rebooting the smartphone
In addition, in the advanced settings there is an option - headphones and sound effects. When you connect a headset, the equalizer adjustment becomes active. With its help, by raising all frequencies to the maximum, you can increase the volume of xiaomi. Select the type of headphones you need, according to the ones you use, your phone will help you adjust the quality and volume of the reproduced sound.
